Inkaya Sycamore, a historical value in Bursa

The sycamore tree which gave its name to the Oyukcinar Neighborhood at the North of Bursa was Turkey’s largest tree with its 18.2 meters body width.

Gölyazı becoming a prominent tourism center of Bursa In line with a recent protocol signed between Nilufer Municipality and Bursa Governorship, Golyazi has been selected as one of the prominent tourism center of Bursa.

Halkali (ringed) and Dudakli (labiates) Sycamore along with the Kiremitci Sycamore that the storks nest in every year are all Bursa Sycamores that are in the same age as the Ottoman Empire. At Cekirge, in the Inkaya village located across the Uludag road, a 598-year-old sycamore with the same name is very well known around the world. The sycamore that received its name

from the Inkaya Village which is one of the first villages of the Ottoman Empire located across the Uludag road has 13 main branches. The height of the ‘’Inkaya Sycamore’’ is 35 meters. It’s one of the oldest trees in Turkey with the thickness its branches at 3-4 meters and its frame at 9.2 meters.

Kapali Carsi (Covered Bazaar) During the ceremony, Münir Karaloğlu, Bursa Governor, Deputy Bursa Governor Bilal Çelik and Mustafa Bozbey, Julyor Of Nilüfer Municipality expressed their views on the future of Gölyazı. Within the framework of protocol, Gölyazı district of Bursa was declared as a conservation area. Gölyazı village is located on two peninsulas at the north of the lake Uluabat. The island is the real reason to come to Gölyazı. However, the tourism signs home in on the Ağlayan Çınar (Weeping Plane Tree), an enormous tree, said to be more

Gölyazı is also an ideal place for bird-watchers. In spring the most conspicuous birds are the storks who’re busily tidying up the ramshackle nests that perch on every

telegraph pole while sparrows freeload in the twigs beneath them. Elsewhere the trees will be alive with the twittering of goldfinches, while swallows will be returning to mud-built nests beneath the eaves. Later, pelicans will also arrive to join the cormorants and terns fishing in the lake. Rare pygmy cormorants also nest here amid the beds of reeds and white water lilies.

The Uzun Carsi (Long Bazaar) which makes up the oldest part of Bursa’s bazaar was formed with the stores at the north of the Emir Inn. From the ancient documents, it is understood that the current grand bazaar was being referred to as Uzun Carsi until the first half of 15th century. Over time, at the north and south of the Uzun Carsi, small businesses were established with their backs resting on the inn. It is known that, inside this bazaar, there are dress makers, candy makers, shoemakers and cutlery sellers respectively. Selling of the real estate properties, with auction sales, took place in this bazaar which is also known as

Suk-i Sultani. Today, it serves as a bazaar with mainly jewelry stores owned by shopkeepers where we can enjoy walking around and shop at the same time. Evliya Celebi indicated that there were 9,000 stores inside the Uzun Carsi. Because he mentions the Uzun Carsi after he talks about the Covered Bazaar, it is understood that the top of the bazaar was open back then. From the north gate of the Kozan Inn located at the continuation of the Covered Bazaar, towards the east of Bat Bazaar (second-hand stores), the top of the Uzun Carsi is covered again today. Mainly textile trading is done at the bazaar.

Junio Show Fair will display competitive power of Bursa

Bursa increases its home textiles and automotive exports Bursa has joined several other Anatolian cities that challenge Istanbul’s dominance with their own increasing economic power and a growing self-confidence. Bursa, a former Ottoman capital surrounded by olive groves and nestled in the green foothills of the Uludag mountain range close to the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara, has a long history as an industrial city. But now, strengthened by its share in Turkey’s rise as an economic power in recent years, the city of 2.2 million people has started to step out of the shadow of its giant neighbour, İstanbul. It has already become a favourite destination for many visitors from Arab countries with its mixture of Ottoman history, a cool climate and thermal baths. It’s no secret that Bursa has become a rising economic power in the region. Its diverse economy, which includes textile exports, car manufacturing, agriculture and now a surge in tourism.

İbrahim Burkay, Chairman of the Board, Bursa Chamber of Commerce (BTSO) pointed out that Junio Show Fair to be held on January 2016 would contribute to Bursa. BTSO has organized a meeting within the framework of the competitiveness of baby and kids’ wear sector. İbrahim Burkay, Chairman of BTSO, Yusuf Olcay Rector of Uludağ University, İsmail Kuş Deputy Chairman of BTSO, Mesut Okyay, Deputy Chairman of BTSO Assembly and Halil Atalay, Chairman, Bursa Children’s Apparel Industry Association, (BEKSİAD) participated in the meeting. They exchaged views on the development and the future of the sector. İbrahim Burkay, Chairman of BTSO, underlined: “Bursa produces 80 percent of chilren’s apparel production and Bursa exports 60 percent of its production to the three continents, thereby becoming the leader of the sector. So, we have to be competitive in ters of price and quality in this sector in order to grow in a sustainable manner. Junio Show Fair would contribute to the competitive power of the sector from this standpoint.” Halil Atalay, Chairman, BEKSİAD said, “Bursa turned out to be one of the most

remarkable leaders of the sector. We are convinced that the Fair would pave the way for a series of new business opportunities. The textile and apparel industry is an important sector that contributes towards the growth of the national economy especially in terms of employment, he added. Mr. Atalay said the new task of the firms operating in the Bursa children’s apparel sector is to work responsibly towards upgrading the sector and improve its recognition in and around the world.” Today, parents are showing increasing concern for health and environmental issues and demanding products that do not affect their children’s health or the environment.Due to its direct contact with the skin, the reliability of clothing is much more important for babies’ and children’s health. Being aware of these trends, Turkish babies’ and children’s clothing producers are much more sensitive to health and the environment. They have already adapted themselves to developments in international markets towards healthier and more environmentally-friendly products by adopting environmental management systems and obtaining eco-labels.

Silk was big business in Bursa when it was part of the Ottoman Empire and the last stop on the lucrative Silk Road. Head to Bursa’s biggest bazaar, Kapali Carsi, in the Koza Hani or “Silk Cocoon Hall” for some silk scarves. It was not long ago that silkworms would be raised by farmers and fed mulberry leaves, before their valuable silk cocoons would be sold in this market. What about today?

The Turkish automotive and spare parts industry is concentrated in the Marmara Region, mainly in Bursa. Two major car factories and two “Organized Industrial Zones” are located in Bursa.

The home textile exporters operating in Bursa are very conscious about fashion and design which enables them to gain a competitive edge in international markets. Innovative and modern designs and unique motifs, all produced by designers, keep the pulse of world home decoration fashion and meet all tastes and preferences. The home textile exporters exhibit her full potential in home textiles in major specialized fairs both in Turkey and abroad. Bursa, known as the city of textile for years, has also become a base for automotive industry thanks to rise in exports from the automotive companies of the city. Hundreds of foreign compa-

nies have settled in Bursa’s industrial zones, which have become centres of Turkey’s automotive and textile industries. Almost two-thirds of the roughly 900,000 vehicles that Turkey is expected to export to foreign markets are assembled in Bursa. Thousands of people work in giant car factories that produce vehicles for global companies like Renault and Fiat to be sold on the growing Turkish market or to be shipped to Europe. The car industry in Bursa is huge-with Renault and Fiat vehicles manufactured in factories to be sold in Turkey or exported to Europe. More recently, government officials and businessmen have been trying to promote Bursa as a tourist destination.

The automotive supplier industry of Bursa produces almost all types of parts, components and spare parts such as engines and engine parts, power train parts and components, brake and clutch parts and components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, suspension systems, security systems, rubber and plastic parts, chassis, frames and parts, casting and forging, electrical equipment and parts, lighting systems, accumulator batteries, seats etc. The auto parts industry of Bursa has developed rapidly as a consequence of developments in the automotive industry. The auto parts industry with its large capacity, wide variety of production and high standards, supports automotive industry production and the vehicles in Bursa and also has ample potential for exports. The automotive and auto spare parts industry have prospered dynamically in line with ever increasing demand from abroad . So, business people operating in the industry have become outward oriented more than ever before.

The historical texture of the village has been well protected and the civilian countryside architectural structures of the early Ottoman period are still intact. Because of this, Cumalıkızık has become a popular center for tourists.

A group of similar villages which are placed close together between the foot of mount Uludağ and the valleys have been called Kızık in Turkish. The name stands for one of the twenty-four clans of the Oghuz Turks and the people from the villages also called Kızık. Similar villages, less well preserved, are Değirmenlikızık, Derekızık, and Hamamlıkızık (see Kızık for other places named Kızık in Turkey). Hamamlıkızık was the village of the local baths (hamam), The Cumalıkızık ethnography museum in the village’s square displays historical objects from the village. The famous Cumalıkızık houses are made out of wood, adobe, rubblestones. Most of them are triplex houses. The windows upstairs are generally latticed and with a bay window. The handles and knockers on the main entry doors are made of wrought iron. Cobblestone streets are interesting with a typical medieval gutter in the center for rain and waste water.

Lake with silverfish – Uluabat ‘The Grand City Bursa’ showed in Dubai Tourism Fair The 21st edition of Dubai tourism fair hosted The Grand City Bursa, a major destination in Turkey, represented by a team headed by Governor of Bursa Munir Karaloglu, 4-7 May 2015. It is a shallow, murky/turbid and a eutrophic freshwater lake. It is formed on the tectonic origin Yenisehir-Bursa-Gonen collapsed field which runs in the direction of east-west. Triangular shaped lake’s length at the direction of east west is 23-24 kilometers and its width is roughly 12 kilometers. There are seven islands in the lake. Its structures are dominated by limestone and the largest of these islands is Halilbey Island. The most important source of water for the lake is the Mustafakemalpasa Stream. The karst resources at the bottom of the lake and the surroundings along with the small streams that reach the lake during rainy periods contribute to the feeding of the lake. Fishing is very common at the lake and the crayfish that are caught are exported overseas. Uluabat Lake is also known as the Apolyont

Lake and is a very important breeding ground for pygmy cormorants (300 pairs), squacco herons (30 pairs) and Eurasian spoonbills. There are also large number of waterfowls (water birds) such as cormorant (max. 1,078), Dalmatian pelican (max. 136) and common pochard (max 321,500) at the lake during winter. 429,423 waterfowls counted in the month of January in 1996 was the highest number of waterfowls recorded in Turkey since 1970. The lake was declared as a Ramsar Site in 1998. With the Uluabat Lake Management Plan, goals such as reducing the pollution in the lake, ensuring the sustainability of fishing and the rational usage of natural resources, enriching the wild life and sharing information about the values that the area has are intended to be fulfilled.

Rehabilitation programmes should be custom made according to each patient’s symptoms and the person’s ailments. The

treatment starts with a medication plan according to the patient’s condition. Apart from the medications, there is a need for a comprehensive rehabilitation programme to prevent functional loss, reduce symptoms and improve the patient’s quality of life. Goals of Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis: The goals can be summarized as follows: enhanced coordination, improved strength and endurance, prevention of movement disability, appropriate security measures for behavioural changes, and improved performance of daily life activities. Thermal and spa tourism heralding a new era Bursa was once the heart of the Ottoman Empire. It sits in a geothermal area that boasts a number of hot springs. This is a place to come if you want a traditional experience because Turkish baths are known throughout the world. Classic bathhouses with intricate tile designs and arching ceilings can be found all around the central Çekirge District of Bursa. These bathing venues are definitely atmospheric. The minerals in the waters of Bursa are thought to have healing properties. Water is also pumped into a number of area hotels, which operate their own mineral pools for guests. In addition to the bathhouses, Bursa is home to a number of large mosques and palaces inherited from the Ottoman Empire, so history buffs and sightseers will have plenty of options in between bathing sessions.

ferent and the waters of Cekirge are called steely waters and the waters of Bademli Bahce are called sulfurous waters. In order to find healing from these waters, there are many tourists that visit regularly every year. People discovered the therapeutic powers of Bursa’s thermal springs centuries ago. The SPA holiday with its pampering and its health and beauty treatments may seem like a relatively new phenomenon, but the health giving properties of Bursa’s natural springs have been renowned since the early ages. With one of the best climates in the world, with a unique variety of nature, as well as one of the healthiest diets in the world, Bursa is the ideal proposal for psychological and physical health and the search for well-being.

In addition to being a trading and industrial center with socio-economic growth, Bursa is also

a significant cultural and tourism center owing to its rich historical and cultural background. The city, which hosted many different civilizations throughout its history, today purports a kind of outdoor museum that attracts foreign tourists with its living history and nature. thermal springs are Hamams with an extra hot water pool inside and acquire hot water from nature without any heating. Medical Park Bursa Hospital serves in all subfields of cardiology

By Arbitrager & Ad. Okan Dursun

Law umbrella under the burnıng sun of health tourısm

study conducted by Turkish Society of Cardiology revealed that our country is at the top among countries where deaths secondary to cardiovascular disease are prevalent. This is indicator of value we attach to our heart.

Assoc. Dr. Hakan Özkan, Cardiology Expert

At Cardiology Clinic of Medicalpark Hospital the patients are not only offered outpatient services, including but not limited to outpatient examination, echocardiography, cardiac stress test, 24hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and Rhythm Holter, but they are also provided with inpatient services, including coronary angiography, angiography and balloon – stent procedures at level of wrist, implantation of permanent pacemaker, radiofrequency ablation of rhythm disorders, balloon procedures for valvular disorders and minimally invasive closure of congenital heart holes and angiographic balloon procedures for leg vessels. Unfortunately, Turkish people underestimate cardiac health. A

Conditions with negative influence on cardiovascular health are also risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. Briefly, these are as follows; age, male gender, smoking, family history of heart attack, cardiovascular death or sudden death in first-degree relatives (before 55 years in male subjects and 65 years for female subjects), hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, overweight and stress. My recommendations for people with cardiovascular problem are based on those risk factors. Measures include quitting smoke, regulating blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol, using medicines or doing diet in this end, losing weight and doing exercise regularly. Moreover, a stress-free life is very important for cardiac health. One is best physician of her/ him. Therefore, we can reduce risk with very simple measures. First, you should quit smoking. You should necessarily avoid sedentary life. It is very important doing non-strenuous or moderate activities for half an hour 5 days a week. Try to be active. You should make plans to regulate body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and serum cholesterol.

problems faced by tourism accommodation places, legal problems faced by transport providers, legal problems faced by insurance companies.

I will evaluate how and in which conditions very current Law Health - Tourism come together and its potential and actual results.

Thus, we may achieve target body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and serum cholesterol with periodical physician visits. Diet is very important, along with medication therapy. At this point, you need to limit salt intake. Whole grain should be preferred instead of white flour. Diet should include high-fiber foods. You should eat minimum 25 g of fiber goods. White meat should be preferred against red meat. It is very important to eat fish two

days a week. One should especially prefer salmon or mackerel, which is rich in Omega-3. Foods rich in unsaturated fat should be preferred instead of foods rich in saturated fat, also known as hazardous fat. Olive oil should be the first preference. It is necessary to avoid fried foods and offal. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be prioritized. They are inevitable part of a healthy diet due to both fiber content and anti-oxidant features.

World Health Organization defined the “health” as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. According to this people can maintain its health with; harmonious compliance and expectations of physical, psychological, economic and all socio-cultural factors. With increased individual and public money spent for rapidly growing medical technology and health care, the expectations of patients from treats justly increased. Intelligence and the speed and ease of communication, have made traceable medical advances in the world to people from all classes. Coupled with the low cost and widespread opportunities in the transportation, it has ensured by seeking treatment that the patient can easily afford to travel between countries. With these trips made between countries to benefit from health services, a new product “health tourism” that provides resources for tourism has taken its place on the agenda. Why Foreign Patients Prefer Turkey? High standards on medical practice, suitable geographic location, affordable presentation, know-how skills of health care professionals and their foreign language speaking skills have turned our country to a fast-growing centre of attraction. Compared to abroad, with its more comfortable and affordable accommodation places, its high rate of transport alternative, its prevalence of thermal - spa services, quality of disabled and advanced age rehabilitation services, our country has been increasing day by day its opportunity of competitiveness against the countries in same position with. Taking into account that our country’s target is 1 million patients in 2015 in the health tourism, and expectation a revenue of 20 billion dollars for year 2023, no doubt that the health tourism is an attractive field which can provide a source to country’s economy after disposing of the potential legal risks with legal regulations. All components of health tourism such as patients, their relatives, accommodations, medicine, physicians, health professionals, the service provider hospitals, thermal centre, tourist agencies, insurance companies, and enterprises which provides air - land - sea transportation, are required a private law filter and regulation. On the other hand, when we examine the negative and infectious effects of diagnosed medically “tourists” in terms of various types of disease and on the health of professionals and environmental health, it clear that multiple arrangements for public safety must to be made with the emphasis on public health of law. The principal problems in health tourism reveal and will continue to reveal as; legal problems faced by health professionals, legal problems faced by enterprises offering health services, legal problems faced by medical providers, legal

It is very important the issue of using which country’s law system would be used for solution of problems foreign citizens in health tourism. Because there are several differences proceedings such as the method of collection of evidences, proof of evidences, by which party the proofs could be claimed or proved. In addition, there are differences on qualification of medical interventions to country’s law. This can show different qualities as a tort or work agreement. For example, in Turkey the acceptance of a intervention is made with a contract by getting a “informed consent” within the scope of Article 23 and 24 of Turkish Civil Code. The fact that the patient is not informed completely and correctly by the doctor about the medical intervention has been considered a breach of contractual rights. However, in French law system, informing the patient has been placed in absolute right context based on individual rights and has been considered a legal obligation of doctor independent of the contractual relationship and contract conditions. (1)( H. Tamer INAL TeraziMonthly Law Journal, December–2014 p. 781 ) Loyalty, care and informing debts of doctor and hospital to patient will determine whether to go forward to a responsibility with country’s law in case of a potential malpractice. This responsibility requires the payment of funeral expenses in case of labour loss compensation, compensation of deprivation of benefits, treatment costs and patient’s death. Besides, all spiritual compensations to be paid for easing the torture, pain and emotional distress of patients and of their relations are in the scope of this responsibility. As the amount of these compensations varies by country to country, it is very significant to which country’s law would be applied on these cases. In addition to compensation and criminal responsibility of complex genetic medical interventions such as ,organ transplant, stem cell transplantation, ovum transfer, sperm and embryo transfer (some is not applied in our country), it will not be prophecy to say that these would lead to complex legal disputes in coming days. The resolution of disputes arising from medical intervention is foreseen in International Private Law.These are; court, arbitration and conciliation methods. This is a law technique in that the rights and proves are matched with legal analysis and qualification of detailed conditions specified to case if and only which one is advantageous for the applicant. The important thing at least medical treatment before starting to medical treatment is to exercise the necessary diligence and not to neglect to take himself under legal assurance of health application. If application of a foreign law is accepted in a case, at this time, it must be investigated absolutely whether laws of foreign countries could be recognized and ratified in our country. By force of Lex Fory rule, Judge of the Court would apply its own law to all cases unless it is not agreed between parties. According to this rule of private international law, Turkish judge would apply its own legislation to every case in our country. I would like to remind the fact that service providers of this field in our country which is in first 10 countries on health tourism need initially all contracts and actions for legal security not “to go farther and fare worse” has a undeniable importance in terms of “protective law”. I wish you a healthy and profitable days.

Ulu Cami, the Grand Mosque of Bursa Turkish architecture is one of the most magnificent works left to us. According to Evliya Celebi Bursa Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) is the Hagia Sophia of Bursa. As a major landmark of early Ottoman architecture, the Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the city of Bursa. Designed and constructed at the end of the 14th century, the mosque features twenty domes supported by twelve large columns and two minarets. It is said that the twenty domes were built instead of the twenty separate mosques that Sultan Bayezid I had promised for winning the Battle of Nicopolis in 1396. So, the mosque was built by Bayezid I who was the fourth Ottoman Emperor and its head architect was Ali Neccar between 1396-1399. The Grand Mosque is located in the old city center of Bursa, on Ataturk Road. Bursa Grand Mosque is the biggest place of worship in terms of place to worship. The Grand mosque has a fountain in the middle. This fountain has an interesting property. If you go to Bursa Grand Mosque you will feel that amazing airflow. The airflow is provided from several thousand tiny holes and several hundred big holes situated on the thick walls. The air, flows through the domes (where the hot and polluted air is stuck), after that the air accumulate just upon the fountain, the air is aspired by the water flow of already used water. After all the fresh and cooled air flows all over the Mosque’s floor and low passing by. Finally quits the Mosque using the doors. That is why the doors are always open, and also that is why you feel the amazingly fresh and cold air when you are at the gates or near the fountain. A water air cleaning system which uses basic

air properties, like the airflow in cooling towers, and nothing else used, made operational in 1421. Nearly 200 inscriptions from major calligraphers of that time cover the walls inside the Grand Mosque and, despite its overall size; the interior

is dimly lit and feels peaceful and intimate. A fountain where visitors can perform ritual ablutions sits below one of the domes, lit from above by a skylight. With a horizontally spacious design, the Grand Mosque is a contrast from later Ottoman mosques that have a more vertical emphasis. Another aspect of Grand Mosque is handwriting on the walls. These hand writings written by twenty-one calligraphers. There are Allah names, verses of Quran, hadith and good words. These handwritings’ topics are, belief, justice, pray, pilgrimage, worship, deeds, patience, halleluiah etc. The Grand Mosque’s the most attractive aspect is its minbar (Addressing the congregation where the imam called minbar). This structure has an amazing astronomy. To the west side of minbar, the solar system is processed. To the east side of

Altaf, the galaxy system is processed. Research on this minbar; this information are confirmed. This was done with art kundekari which is a type of architectural art. Minbar consist of 6666 pieces (6666: these numbers is equal to the number of verses in the Quran). Though plain on the exterior, the Ulu Cami has the impressive portals typical of Seljuk architecture, and is quite grand on the inside: a forest of mighty square columns supporting a cloud of arches and domes. At the center, a glass-covered opening lets in ample light, providing a central visual focus within the large space. Though simple, the design is well suited to Muslim worship, providing a vast covered space that can hold thousands of worshippers in a lofty atmosphere.
