Existem cerca de 47 geossítios por explorar na ilha da Madeira e do Porto Santo. São eles os responsáveis por documentar e relatar a história geológica de outrora, constituindo vestígios que tornam rico o património natural da região.
E m 2021 foi aprovado o Dia Internacional da Geodiversidade. A celebração deste dia estreia-se a 6 de outubro de 2022.
A implementação desta data foi uma iniciativa que surgiu no meio científico por parte de José Brilha, professor da Universidade do Minho. Nesse seguimento, foram reunidas várias organizações internacionais

A Boca das Torrinhas, para além de ser um percurso pedestre com dois sentidos, é um ponto de partida para outros percursos da zona, onde por exemplo a vereda do Curral – Boaventura se cruza com a vereda da Encumeada – Pico Ruivo.
A aventura começa na Fajã dos Cardos, uma sítio do Curral das Freiras, e o que se avizinha a partir daí pode vir a ser uma caminhada exigente para os que não costumam andar por estes trilhos. Contudo, a par disso, a experiência valerá todo o esforço.
