EDITORIAL

A

Paris, dans ma ville natale, traditionnellement le mois de novembre est celui de la Photographie.

Aussi loin que je m’en souvienne, dès mon enfance, c’était l’occasion de voir de très belles expositions consacrées au médium.

A Shanghai, la photographie est un domaine plus récent pour les institutions qui commencent tout juste à l’exposer comme Art. Mais le chemin parcouru ces quelques dernières années est étonnant. Ainsi par le patient travail des commissaires d’exposition et des institutions de nombreux photographes de talents ont été reconnu pour leur pratique artistique.

Aujourd’hui à travers le monde le champ de la photographie ouvre de nouvelles perspectives et des horizons étonnants. Du néerlandais Erwin Olaf au très shanghaien Maleonn, chacun offre un retour sur sa propre culture, artistique, historique et voire même personnelle.

Chacun nous offre un peu de son monde, des émotions, ou encore comme le dirait Erwin Olaf « ce micro instant, intense et riche en émotion qui ne dure que le temps d’un battement de cils ».

EDITORIAL

I

n Paris, my hometown, traditionally the month of November is the month of Photography. As far as I remember, in my childhood it was the opportunity to see beautiful exhibitions dedicated to the medium.

In Shanghai, photography is a newer field for institutions that are just starting to show it as Art. But the path undertaken in these past few years is amazing. It is the patient work of curators and institutions that made the photographers’ works recognized for their artistic value.

Now, all around the world, photography opens new perspectives and amazing new horizons.

From Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf to the very Shanghaiese Maleonn, each of them offers an insight on their own culture, from an artistic, historical and even personal perspective. Each offers a bit of his world, emotions, or like Erwin Olaf seeks to capture “this tiny moment, rich and intense in emotions, that lasts only the time of a blink of the eyes.”

在我的出生地巴黎，传统地说，十一 月是摄影月。我还记得，从我的孩童时代 起，就看到过许多美丽的摄影展览。在上 海，摄影对于那些刚开始把摄影作品当成 艺术展出的机构来说仍是一个比较新的领 域。但这几年摄影的变化是十分惊人的。 而且，通过展览专员以及机构的努力，很 多有天赋的摄影师都已经被大众所承认。 当今世界的摄影领域有了一个新的面貌以 及一个惊人的视野。从荷兰摄影师Erwin Olaf到马良，他们都回归到他们的文化、 艺术、历史、甚至是个人，向我们展示他 们的世界、情感。就像Erwin Olaf所说：“ 使用这个即时、情感丰富的麦克风只需要 一眨眼的时间。”。

aleonn (Ma Liang in Chinese), born in 1972, is one of the most iconic photographer of the photographic contemporary Shanghai art scene. He grew up only minutes away from his state-of-the-art studio in Shanghai. Through his photographic work Maleonn pays a tribute to China and its rich history.

Maleonn’s generation grew up during the last years of China’s Cultural Revolution, when thousands of artists were persecuted. His mother was an actress and his father was a director of the opera. He says they also suffered during that time. “I feel so much for my Mum and Dad,” he says, “I really wanted to know what they’ve been through.” “I’m interested in the memories that these photos evoke,” he says, “the things that are forgotten, the things that should not be forgotten.” Maleonn adds: “I remember at the end of each month, my parents and I would empty each and every pocket of every coat. Even if we found a penny, my mum would be over the moon, because dinner was sorted!” Today, both parents are proud of Maleonn’s achievements.

Compared to his parent’s generation, Maleonn feels he has a lot more flexibility with his work. But he wants young artists in China to be encouraged more to express their thoughts. “Artists these days enjoy more freedom,” says Maleonn.

Today Maleonn has gained recognition for his photographic work is being exhibited in most of the Chinese museums and shows about Chinese contemporary photography. Yet one should never forget his world is much richer. “Although I am essentially a photographer, I also draw,” he says, “I also do installation and video arts.” Maleonn’s world is an endless journey in time and space. A way to rediscover the deep roots of China.

La génération de Maleonn a grandi dans les dernières années de la Révolution culturelle chinoise, celle la même où des milliers d’artistes ont été persécutés. Sa mère était une actrice lyrique et son père était un directeur de l’opéra. Maleonn se souvient à quel point ils ont souffert pendant ces temps. « Je me sens tellement touché par le destin de mes parents» dit-il, «j’ai toujours voulu rendre hommage à ce qu’ils ont vécu. » «Je suis intéressé par les souvenirs que les photos évoquent » dit-il, «les choses qui sont oubliées, les choses qui ne doivent pas être oubliées. » Maleonn ajoute: «Je me souviens, à la fin de chaque mois, mes parents et moi nous vidions nos poches et si nous trouvions une pièce, ma mère était aux anges, parce que le dîner était assuré !» Aujourd’hui, ce sont ses deux parents qui sont fiers de Maleonn.

Par rapport à la génération de ses parents, Maleonn sent qu’il a beaucoup plus de libertés quant à son travail. Mais sans relâche il enjoint les jeunes artistes en Chine à exprimer d’avantage leurs émotions et leurs pensées.

«Les artistes de nos jours jouissent de plus de liberté», assure Maleonn.

Aujourd’hui Maleonn a acquis une reconnaissance pour son travail photographique qui est exposé dans la plupart des musées chinois et les expositions de photographie contemporaine chinoise. Pourtant, il ne faut jamais oublier que son univers est beaucoup plus riche qu’il n’y parait. « Même si je suis essentiellement un photographe, je dessine aussi » dit-il, « je fais aussi des installations et de la vidéo. » Le monde de Maleonn est un voyage sans fin dans le temps et l’espace. Une façon de redécouvrir les racines profondes de la Chine.

马良 (Maleonn）出生于1972年， 是上海当代艺术舞台上最具象征性的摄影师之一。 他在离他上海工作室只有几分钟距离的地方长大， 与他出生的城市总是保持着密切的联系。 通过他的摄影作品，马良向中国悠久的历史致敬。

和马良同年代的人都是在文化大革命最后几年的背景下 成长起来的。文化大革命迫害了数以千计的艺术家。马良 的母亲是一位演员，而他的父亲则是京剧的导演。马良回 忆起当时候是怎么受苦的，他说：“我父母的命运使我受 到了很大的感触”。 他始终想向他亲身经历过的事致敬。“我总是对那些被 照片唤起的回忆所吸引。那些被人们所忘记但却不应该被 忘记的事。”，马良又说。他还说：“我记得，在每月末， 我父母和我翻遍了我们的口袋，如果我们能找到一个硬 币，我妈妈就会很开心，因为我们的晚餐有着落了。”。 如今，马良的父母都以马良为荣。 相比起他父母的那个年代，马良感觉到他的艺术工作有 更多的自由。但他仍然不知疲倦地呼吁中国的艺术家表达 他们的情绪和想法。 马良认为：“现在的艺术家拥有着更多的自由”。 现在，马良凭借他在中国众多博物馆以及当代摄影展览 中所展出的摄影作品被大众所认识。然而，大家千万不要 忘记他的领域十分丰富。“即使我本质上来说是一个摄影 师，但我也画画，也做装置和摄像。”，马良说。马良的 世界就像是一场在时间和空间上都无止境的旅行。这是一 种重新发掘中国深厚的根的方式。

ERWIN OLAF EMOTIONS & LIFE

D

utch photographer Erwin Olaf is a master at staged photography.

Yet the decor is not all. Emotion are essential in his way of capturing the world. Very active on the international artistic scene since the beginning of the 90s, this world recognized aesthete offers a vision of photography which mixes codes and times. His pictures are real icons in which he establishes the contemporary society’s portrait through sophisticated set ups.

Erwin Olaf est une véritable star aujourd’hui. En 2011, il remporte le prix Johannes Vermeer pour la grande qualité de l’ensemble de son œuvre en photographie.

Erwin Olaf expose dans de nombreux musées à travers le monde, le musée Ludwig de Cologne, le Kunsthal de Rotterdam, le Chelsea Art Museum à New-York ou la Maison européenne de la Photographie à Paris.

Au Pays-Bas, Erwin Olaf est aussi le photographe officiel de la princesse Maxima. Sa récente rétrospective en Chine (à la Galerie Magda Danysz de Shanghai) est l’occasion de présenter ses œuvres pour la première fois en Chine. A travers une sélection très riche d’œuvres de toutes les périodes, de pièces des séries aussi emblématiques que Royal Blood, Grief, Dusk, ou la récente Berlin, Erwin Olaf offre une rétrospective exhaustive mais aussi étonnante d’une grande beauté. NOWHERE

STEPHANE BISSEUIL DISCOVERY Voyages en terres familières, par voie de terre ou dans le ciel, à la redécouverte de ces environnements pourtant oubliés.

N

owhere is a very personal photographic work undertaken for over a decade, born from the photographer’s frequent solitary traveling.

All these hours he spent in trains or planes, were moments when his eye was getting lost in landscapes we never really pay attention to. Places that seem familiar but that we all soon forget. These are landscapes that belong to no one, as everyone already has a deja-vu impression, but their monotony makes them impossible to really remember. They are “nowhere”.

This series is divided into different chapters. Nowhere by train and Nowhere by plane are the first act, and tell the experience of the flying skies. Nowhere eventually introduces another chapter and comes as a conclusion. Like the the end of the road.

For Stéphane Bisseuil, photography reveals the sadness, the poetry, the beauty of landscapes, these places marked by their apparent banality. These simple photographs are meant to keep a trace in our memory. They also have another function, that of appropriating these places, to create a link between these views taken from an airplane or a train window. Lost

Born in 1971 in Toulouse, Stéphane Bisseuil has been practicing photography for the past 25 years in Paris and New York where he lived in the 90s. Always carrying his M6 and M9 Leicas feeds an almost obsessive approach. Bisseuil has worked extensively on graffiti, with a goal of “archiving” street art, an art known for its ephemeral side, guided by a certain fascination for the technique of these artists able to make their art despite of the legal constraints. Some of his photographs were published in the anthology of street art “From Style Writing to Art”.

His approach continues today with his Iphone series done in the Paris subway. Continuing the archiving process, Stéphane Bisseuil draws a portrait that is both tender and lucid of today’s society.

in this ocean of clouds, over the ocean of loneliness, lost in the trees, or miraculously spared in the middle of a field, one can feel the immensity of these places...

The viewer is free to pick up the pieces, or isolate them. He is free to believe that he has already seen the scenery somewhere between Avignon and Marseille or between Boston and New York. But whatever. These landscapes exist. The’re just “nowhere”.

N

owhere est un travail photographique très personnel entrepris depuis plus d’une dizaine d’années. Il est né des voyages, vécus comme des itinérances, des parenthèses de solitude propices à une certaine mélancolie du photographe Stéphane Bisseuil. A travers quelques heures passées dans les trains ou les avions, il vit ses migrations l’œil perdu dans les paysages que l’on traverse sans jamais vraiment les regarder, qui nous semblent parfois familiers mais que l’on oublie aussitôt. Il s’agit de ces paysages qui n’appartiennent à personne, que tout le monde a déjà l’impression d’avoir vu et revu, mais dont la monotonie ne permet ni de les situer, ni de les garder en mémoire. Ils sont « nowhere » (nulle part).

Cette série se décompose en plusieurs parties au départ bien distinctes. Nowhere by train et Nowhere by plane constituent le premier acte, et racontent cette expérience des paysages, de ces cieux, de ces endroits traversés en fonction du moyen de transport emprunté. Le second chapitre, Nowhere eventually est une conclusion du voyage entrepris, juste pour rappeler, ou plus exactement se convaincre que ces « Nowhere » traversés ont une conclusion. Ils sont le bout du chemin.

De ces paysages, de ces endroits marqués par leur platitude apparente, la photographie est là pour témoigner de leur mélancolie, de leur poésie, et de leur beauté si facilement ignorée et si vite oubliée par le voyageur. Ces photographies viennent jouer le rôle premier de l’acte photographique, au-delà de l’esthétique, de garder un trace, une preuve et ainsi devenir l’outil qui viendra les encrer dans notre mémoire. Elles ont aussi une autre fonction, celle de s’approprier ces lieux, de créer un lien entre ces vues prises au travers d’un hublot d’avion ou d’une fenêtre de train, de leur trouver un lien presque fraternel, de retrouver dans ce nuage perdu au-dessus de l’océan la solitude de cet arbre égaré, ou plus exactement miraculeusement épargné, au milieu d’un champ, de ressentir l’immensité d’un ciel traversé d’un trait de nuage comme l’explosion d’une vague qui vient déchirer la ligne d’horizon d’un l’océan.

Né en 1971 à Toulouse, Stéphane Bisseuil pratique la photographie depuis plus de 25 ans de Paris à New York où il a vécu dans les années 90. Armé de Leica M6 et M9 il nourrit une démarche quasi obsessionnelle. Stéphane Bisseuil a beaucoup travaillé sur les graffitis, avec pour objectif premier «l’archivage» d’un art de la rue connu pour son côté éphémère, guidé non seulement par une affinité artistique mais aussi par une certaine fascination des techniques d’artistes en mesure de réaliser leur art en dépit de «formidables» contraintes légales. Une partie de ses clichés a été publié dans l’anthologie du street art « From Style Writing to Art ». Sa démarche se prolonge aujourd’hui avec une série réalisée à l’Iphone dans le métro parisien. Poursuivant la démarche d’archivage qui lui est chère, Stéphane Bisseuil dresse un portrait à la fois tendre et lucide de la société actuelle.

Le spectateur est libre de recoller les morceaux, ou de les isoler. Il est libre de se persuader qu’il a déjà vu ces paysages entre les gares d’Avignon et de Marseille alors que ce petit arbre perdu survit en réalité entre Boston et New York. Mais peu importe. Ce paysage existe. Il est juste «Nowhere».

而“Nowhere”是则是一组十分个人的照片，着手拍摄超过 了十年，诞生于他的旅途，这些旅途就像是忧郁的孤独的 漫游和插曲。 在火车或飞机中度过的几个小时，他的视线涣散在一些人 们从未认真观察过的风景中。这些风景对于人们来说很熟 悉，却又很快地忘记。这是一些不属于任何人但所有人都 有印象曾经看见过它们的风景，然而这些风景的单调性不 足以让它们停留在人们的记忆中，它们就是“nowhere”。 这个系列分成从开始就已经区分好的两部分。由Nowhere by plane以及Nowhere by train组成的第一部分，讲述这 些以乘坐交通工具的方式下看过的风景和跨越过的地方的 经历。第二章，Nowhere eventually作为对这些旅行的一 个总结，它只是为了提醒，又或者是自我说服这些跨越过 的“Nowhere”有一个结果，它们是路的尽头。

THE IMAGE MEMORY

Through the UNFRAMED series, the photographer JR stands at the crossroads of different issues and questions about the presentation and representation of photography.

L

ike many artists, from Edouard Levé to Ariel Reichman, who work on the decontextualization in photography, JR questions in his own way photography. Being granted access to photographic archives of different sources he decided to pick some iconic photographs, print them in large scale and repaste them in unexpected places in a totally different format. By doing so JR questions what makes the strength of a photograph. Does the size of the print and the way/place where it is shown matter? Avoiding the usual museum spaces, JR chooses to fit into unusual locations, like walls on the streets or abandoned places. He opens a dialogue with other elements, with architecture, with the city itself, its passers-by, etc.

Faithfull to his initial statement JR also questions through this series the impact of images whether coming from the media or from prestigious photographic collections. He also questions the presentation of the photographic works. JR focuses in UNFRAMED on what historian Nicolas Offenstadt calls images that “operate as icons rather than talk about a context”. Very often historians warn us against these images that make history and yet are published in school books without the proper credits, changing the perception one should have of historical events and their context. JR for example pasted in 2010 the famous image

by Man Ray on the Vevey Bell Tower (Switzerland) totally changing its perception and iconic status.

After travelling with this project around the world, confronting it to different contexts, more recently JR has completed a new chapter of UNFRAMED on Ellis Island (this island just by the other one, Staten Island) and where immigrants were disembarked and put in quarantine before reaching the Promised Land that represented the United States.

Ellis is a place of memory. In the series UNFRAMED-ELLIS, Ellis is a voice and millions of faces. Through his work JR was able to embody, give a soul to a place that had lost life.

Being the entry door to the United States from 1892 to 1954 for millions of immigrants, this small island in the vicinity of Manhattan, adjacent to the Statue of Liberty, had been rendered useless due to the change of the way of managing migration flows. With time it was turned into the Immigration Museum and the place became alive again.

It is a tribute to those who have managed to reach their promised land, but also to those who perished on the way. These are also the faces of their descendants who, by the miracle of life, embody and perpetuate their traits, even if the history of the migrations of their ancestors fades with time. The memory fades, and yet what happened is lurking at the bottom of our souls whether we are the migrants or one of their descendants.

in another language, different from the one of the country they live in. The series brings together these emotions with the photographs of JR’s collages on Ellis Island, but also through the short film that accompanies it. Robert De Niro plays the main and only role, the role of his life. Maybe it is not the most important of his career but actually it is his life too, as the grandson of Italian immigrants who did the journey long time ago from Italy to America.

JR who had access to the Ellis Island photographic archives pasted the portraits of migrants in the hidden places of Ellis Island.

Those places were kept intact and yet exude a strange feeling, as if the ghosts of all the people who stopped by here were still on the island.

The impact of UNFRAMED-ELLIS is huge in a world where flows of refugees do not cease.

All this is not about the past. Sadly enough it is still our very present reality. And if JR succeeds at showing us the journey the migrants were going through back then while arriving to America, he also points the relentless present human tragedy. The story of one, is the story of so many. And what can we say about this place where migrants were this close to their dream and the Statue of Liberty was standing there, with its arm up in the air, yet turning its back to Ellis Island…

LA MEMOIRE DE L’IMAGE

travers la série UNFRAMED les clichés de JR se tiennent à la croisée de différentes problématiques et questionnements sur la présentation et la représentation de la photographie.

A l’instar de nombreux artistes d’Edouard Levé à Ariel Reichman qui travaillent sur la décontextualisation en photographie, JR, à travers cette série, questionne à son tour ce rapport à la photographie. Ayant accès à des archives photographique de tiers il décide de recoller, en changeant le format et le cadre, des reproductions, souvent monumentales, de ces clichés dans des endroits inattendus. Dans ce travail il s’agit de décontextualisation de la photographie elle-même. JR remet la photographie en question dans sa présentation même.

La conservation et son rapport au public est ici au centre même de la préoccupation de cet artiste qui remet en cause les espaces usuel de monstration de la galerie à l’institution muséale. La photographie existe-t-elle par son format, son mode de présentation, ou peut-elle s’en abstraire et se confronter à un changement drastique de format et de monstration ?

Les travaux de JR s’insèrent dans des espaces d’exposition inhabituels et dialoguent avec les autres œuvres, l’architecture, la ville, les passants, pour déployer un dispositif artistique.

Fidèle à son travail habituel JR invite aussi à une réflexion sur l’impact de l’image qu’elle soit dans les médias ou issue de collections photographiques prestigieuses. Au-delà du questionnement lié à la présentation des œuvres, JR touche aussi dans UNFRAMED à ce que l’historien Nicolas Offenstadt appelle «le fonctionnement en icônes plus qu’en contextes». L’historien nous met en garde contre ces images de tranchées, de combats publiés sans légendes adéquates dans de les manuels scolaires. JR en collant par exemple en 2010 un cliché de Man Ray sur le clocher de la ville de Vevey (en Suisse) permet cette prise de conscience.

Après avoir fait voyager ce projet à travers le monde, confrontant différents contextes et photographies historiques, plus récemment JR a réalisé un chapitre d’UNFRAMED sur l’île d’Ellis, ce lieu mythique voisin de la statue de la Liberté et où les immigrants étaient débarqués et mis en quarantaine avant d’atteindre la terre promise que représentaient les EtatsUnis.

Ellis c’est un endroit, un lieu de mémoire.

Dans la série UNFRAMED-ELLIS de JR, Ellis c’est aussi une voix, et des millions de visages.

A travers son travail JR a réussi à incarner, donner une âme, à un lieu qui avait perdu de sa vie. Porte d’entrée des Etats-Unis de 1892 à 1954 pour des millions d’immigrants, cette petite île aux abords de Manhattan, avait été rendue inutile du fait du changement de la façon de gérer les flux migratoires. Le lieu dépouillé de toute vie, fut pourtant sanctuarisé en musée. Enfin ces vies reprennent possession de l’endroit.

De ceux qui ont réussi à atteindre leur terre promise, mais aussi de ceux qui ont péri en chemin. Ce sont aussi les visages de leurs descendants qui par le miracle de la vie incarnent et perpétuent leurs traits, même si l’histoire de la migration de leurs aïeuls s’estompe avec le temps. Le souvenir se fane, l’histoire s’évoque de moins en moins et pourtant ce qui s’est passé est tapi au fond de nos âmes que l’on soit migrants ou un de leur descendants. A un moment, tous ont du se cacher, tenir dans la traversée et survivre. Comme l’eau garde la mémoire, l’humain a aussi de cet ADN du vécu. Et même chez ceux qui ont voulu oublier, ce gène immatériel subsiste, un gène de la survie qui a été à un moment activé ou qui le sera un jour…

Cette série parle aux enfants d’immigrés, de ceux qui l’oublient parfois, trop souvent, mais qui pourtant ont été élevés dans une autre langue que celle de leur pays d’accueil, qui font partie à vie d’une tribu silencieuse, immuablement nomade et dont les rangs gros-

sissent irrémédiablement. La série réunit à travers les photographies de ses collages, mais aussi à travers le court métrage auquel qui l’accompagne, des émotions. Robert De Niro y tient le seul rôle, tout en y jouant le rôle de sa vie. Peut être pas le plus important, mais bel et bien celui d’un enfant de l’immigration. Il est aussi l’un d’eux par ses grands parents, immigrés italiens ayant eux-mêmes fait l’harassant chemin depuis l’Europe vers les Etats-Unis.

Passage obligé de tous les immigrants venus cherché par bateau la terre promise, cette île, aujourd’hui musée, est avant tout le lieu de tant de souvenirs et la maison de fantômes qui veillent et gardent la porte des Etats Unis.

JR ayant eu accès aux archives photographiques du lieu, portraits de tant

d’immigrés parfois même anonymisés et qui pourtant sont le sang de l’Amérique aujourd’hui. Il les a ensuite remis en situation réalisant des collages dans les parties non ouvertes au public d’Ellis. Ces lieux devenus fantomatiques car vides aujourd’hui gardent pourtant une empreinte très forte, en les visitant il est impossible de ne pas sentir la présence des fantômes du passé.

La portée d’une série photographique comme UNFRAMED – ELLIS est immense dans un monde où les flux et les reflux de réfugiés n’ont de cesse de strier les cartes du monde, comme une fatalité dont la nature humaine ne saurait se défaire. après des semaines de bateau, il pointe aussi du doigt la tragédie humaine qui n’a de cesse de se répéter. Universelle, la série porte la voix d’un seul, mais aussi de tous. Que dire de ce lieu où les migrants en attente voyaient, si proche, la Statue de la Liberté tendre le bras, majestueuse, et pourtant encore, le temps de la quarantaine, leur tourner le dos…

LIU BOLIN THE HACKER SERIES Internationnaly famous photographer Liu Bolin has taken a step forward in his controversial work. Recognized as the “Invisible Man” for years he has decided now to hide in images hacked on institutional websites.

iu Bolin, the internationally famous artist, whose the nickname is “the invisible man”, made a new series of photographs : THE HACKER SERIES. As the artist shares “in my latest solo show I explore what, in an era of intense virtualization, remains real. Is what we see really what we get?” For this series Liu Bolin has hacked institutional websites where some images have been changed. He has taken away the original image to replace it with one of his.

Barely visible the artist hides in those pictures.

The only thing one can see is the light in his hand. It is a light he tries to shed on reality.

“With this new step I am no longer the “Invisible Man”, I am more an art whistleblower trying to raise the awareness of people about the power of images”, adds Liu Bolin. By hacking institutional websites and changing one of their images Liu Bolin wishes to reflect upon the internet era and where the real power lays. The series is like a performance inside the worldwide web. Internet changes the way people communicate and how they get the information. “It is the beginning of a new world”, says Liu Bolin, the “Network Age” will have humans change. In opposition to our traditional philosophy, people are now facing a new challenge in terms of ethics and legal values. It is a dive into the unknown.

Liu Bolin adds : “There is always a deeper meaning to an image, it questions the human soul and spirit. In this new series I challenge the The Magz

power of the images changing the original ones.

It is an attempt to start a war against the images”.

Liu Bolin is part of this generation of Chinese artists who are very sensitive to political, economic, social and environmental transformations of their country. With his series “Hiding in the City”, started in 2005, he became a national and international symbol, sometimes admired, sometimes controversial. From this period he is still working on this approach and he paints himself from head to toes in order to hide himself in various places. Each time he chooses supermarkets, historical monuments or jewels of architecture which become symbols of the contemporary society. His works, between “photography and performance” according to art critic Philippe Dagen, reveal the delicate balance of our modern world. In this new series, Liu Bolin continues his own thinking on the evolution of the society and gives us a look particularly relevant on the contemporaneity. Nowadays recognized all over the world as one of the most famous photographers of his generation; Liu Bolin doesn’t lack of daring.

ans sa dernière série THE HACKER SERIES l’artiste chinois Liu Bolin pirate des sites internet institutionnels dont il capture les images pour les modifier avant de les insérer en ligne à nouveau. A peine visible, l’artiste se cache dans les images d’origine sur les sites de la mairie du 13ème arrondissement de Paris, de l’ambassade de France en Angleterre ou encore de l’établissement culturel du CENTQUATRE. L’artiste explore ainsi « ce qu’il reste de réel dans une ère d’intense virtualisation » et pose au public une question « est-ce que ce que nous percevons est réellement ce que nous vivons ? » « Avec cette nouvelle étape, je ne suis plus ‘l’homme invisible’, je suis plus comme un lanceur d’alerte de l’art essayant de sensibiliser les gens au pouvoir des images » ajoute Liu Bolin.

Il lance une réflexion sur l’ère du tout internet, s’interroge sur ce réseau dont le pouvoir s’étend sans que l’on en mesure nécessairement toutes les conséquences. Construite telle une performance artistique réalisée sur la toile mondiale, cette série marque le pas d’une nouvelle ère en termes de pouvoir. « C’est le début d’un nouveau monde » partage Liu Bolin, « l’âge des réseaux qui va transformer l’humanité ». En rupture avec notre philosophie traditionnelle, les gens font désormais face à de nouveaux challenges en termes d’éthique et de valeurs morales. C’est

un plongeon dans l’inconnu. Liu Bolin ajoute : « Il y a toujours un sens plus profond dans une image quelle qu’elle soit, elle questionne l’âme humaine et l’esprit. Dans cette série, je mets au défi le pouvoir des images en les transformant.

C’est ma tentative de guerre contre les images. » Liu Bolin fait partie de cette génération d’artistes chinois très sensibles aux transformations politiques, économiques, sociales et environnementales. Avec sa série « Hiding in the City », initiée en 2005, il est devenu un symbole national et international, tantôt admiré, tantôt controversé. Depuis ses débuts, il n’a cessé de travailler sur cette approche et il se peint lui-même de la tête aux pieds dans le but de se cacher dans divers lieux. Ses oeuvres, entre ‘photographie et performance’ pour reprendre les mots du critique d’art Philippe Dagen, révèlent l’équilibre fragile de notre monde moderne. ”作为当代中国艺术家，刘勃麟对政治 经济的巨变和社会环境产生的影响有着十 分敏锐的嗅觉。自2005年开始创作的系 列作品“城市迷彩”，令他成为国内外炙手 可热的艺术家，他的作品被人们所喜爱， 但是也不可避免地为他招来许多非议。 从这之后，他一直坚持着用这种方法把自 己从头到脚伪装起来，让自己完全隐藏到 身后的背景中。他每次选择的场景不同， 从超级市场到历史古迹，亦或是一些当代 建筑，他的选择都与当今时代高度契合。 他的作品既是摄影作品，又是行为艺术作 品，用知名艺术评论家Philippe Dagen 的话来说，是对中国传统和现代之间微妙 平衡的回应。本次展览展出的作品是刘勃 麟对当代社会思考的延续，充满与时俱进 的思想。作为当今国内外最知名的摄影艺 术家之一，刘勃麟不乏胆识。此次展览也 为MD画廊提供了一次很好的机会，在伦 敦第一次为大家展现这位著中国艺术家的 作品。

ow would you define the Hong Kong art scene these days ?

I think the scene is continually growing, but there is still a significant lack of educational programming. The Hong Kong Art Museum has been shut for renovation, and we’re still waiting for M+ to be finished.

Most of the art scene is commercially focused at this point, except for a few notable nonprofits.

Who are according to you the most interesting actors on this scene ?

Para-site is doing some great non-profit exhibitions, and Spring Workshop is doing an amazing job hosting artists-in-residence. In general, it’s a small scene so people are really willing to help each other out which makes for a very nurturing and encouraging environment.

What does the recently opened in Hong Kong HOCA foundation brings on the city’s culutral landscape ?

HOCA is hoping to bring exactly that educational aspect that I said Hong Kong’s art scene was lacking. Our exhibitions are focused on international artists that are either up and coming or have been highly influential in their medium. I think a lot of people in Hong Kong are intimidated by the art scene because it is so sales focused. They think that if they can’t afford an artwork, they won’t be welcome in the gallery. We want to provide exhibitions and events that are free and open to the public and where everyone is welcome.

What is the aim of the Foundation ? and its upcoming projects and exhibitions ?

The aim of the foundation is to promote contemporary art in Hong Kong through educational programming, exhibitions, and cata-

logue publications. Our programming will be pretty eclectic but there is a strong focus on pop art and street art, and artists who are engaged with contemporary culture.

As the curator of the Foundation what do you wish to bring to the public ?

I’m personally drawn to art that is able to speak to a wide range of people. As you can tell from our previous exhibitions this includes a lot of street art, and art made with pop culture as its muse. I think when bringing large scale exhibitions, it’s important to introduce work which a large audience can connect with immediately. Hopefully this will increase their appetite to learn more about other artists and genres as well.

Tell us about your Up Close : Erotic Japanese Photography exhibit Up Close is an exhibition featuring the erotic works of three of the most influential postwar Japanese photographers - Eikoh Hosoe, Daido Moriyama, and Nobuyoshi Araki.

It explores Japanese photography’s shift from social documentary towards a medium for contemporary experience. The exhibition was conceived as a narrative development of the practice of photography through a common theme of eroticism. These photographers works vary greatly, but all three explore the concept of Eros (life/sex juxtaposed with Thantos or death in Freudian psychoanalysis) and the portrayal of sexual experience as a metaphor for life.

In the photography field, do you have any photographer spotted in Asia you’d advise to follow ?

My favorite photographic body of work is by Japanese photographer Miwa Yanagi, entitled “Elevator Girl,” but that work is from nearly 20 years ago now! More contemporary would be the magical realist environments of South Korean photographer Koo Sung Soo, and Chinese multimedia artist Yuan GoangMing.

Comment définiriez-vous la scène artistique hong kongaise aujourd’hui ?

s’entraider, ce qui en fait un environnement très inspirant et encourageant.

Je pense que la scène artistique locale est en constante évolution, mais il existe encore un manque patent de programmes éducationnels. Le Musée des Arts de Hong Kong (Hong Kong Art Museum) est fermé pour rénovation et nous attendons encore que les travaux du musée M+ soient achevés. A part quelques institutions sans but lucratif, la plus grande partie de la scène hongkongaise est encore très orientée vers le marché.

De part sa récente inauguration, qu’est ce que la HOCA Foundation souhaite apporter à ce paysage culturel ?

Qui sont selon vous les acteurs les plus intéressants de cette scène ?

“Para-site” est une organisation à but non lucratif qui fait de très bonnes expositions.

“Spring Workshop” fait un travail remarquable de residence d’artistes. Comme la scène ici est assez réduite les gens ont tendance à

De ce fait nous voulons pouvoir offrir des expositions et des événements qui soient gratuits et ouvert au public, que tout le monde se sente bienvenu.

Quels sont les objectifs et projets à venir pour la Fondation ?

L’objectif de la Fondation est de promouvoir l’art contemporain à Hong Kong à travers un programme éducationnel, des expositions et des publications. Notre programmation se veut éclectique avec une attention particulière portée au pop art, le street art et les artistes engagés en matière de cultures contemporaines.

En tant que commissaire d’exposition de la Fondation que souhaitez vous apporter au public ?

Je suis personnellement attirée par de l’art qui parle au plus grand nombre. Comme le montre nos précédentes expositions cela inclus beaucoup de street art et d’art dont la culture pop est l’inspiration. Je pense que lorsque l’on produit des expositions d’envergure il est

primordial de montrer des œuvres auxquelles le public puisse se sentir connecté de façon immédiate. J’espère que cela accroîtra ensuite leur envie d’en savoir plus sur d’autres artistes et d’autres genres artistiques.

Parlez nous de votre exposition sur la photographie érotique japonaise : Up Close Up Close est une exposition qui présente les travaux érotiques de trois des plus importants photographes japonais d’après guerre : Eikoh Hosoe, Daido Moriyama et Nobuyoshi Araki. L’exposition explore le tournant de la photographie japonaise d’une pratique documentaire à une expérimentation contemporaine, à travers le thème commun de l’érotisme. Le travail de ces photographes varie énormément, mais les trois on en commun d’explorer le concept de l’Eros (la vie, le sexe en juxtaposition avec Thantos ou la mort dans la psychanalyse freudienne) et la représenta-

tion de l’expérience sexuelle comme une métaphore de la vie.

Dans le champ de la photographie, avez vous des photographes que vous avez découvert en Asie que vous conseillez de suivre ?

Mon œuvre photographique favorite est le travail du japonais Miwa Yanagi, intitulée “Elevator Girl”. Mais c’est une œuvre qui a déjà près de 20 ans! Dans les démarches plus actuelles je conseille de suivre les environnements réalistes du sud-coréen Koo Sung Soo, et le travail multimédia de l’artiste chinois Yuan Goang-Ming.

IN THE HEART OF THE ELYSEE MUSEUM T

atyana Franck has been appointed as the new director of the Swiss Elysée Museum specializing in photography and shares here with us her ambitions for this institution. The Elysée Museum holds one of the most important and diverse collections in Europe covering the entire history of photography and its many different aspects. Its collections are made up of almost a million items related to photography.

And great news for the photography world : as it has just been announced a new building for the museum will be constructed and opened in 2020.

H

ow was created the Lausanne photography Elysée Museum?

The place where the museum is currently was built between 1780 and 1783, by architect Abraham Fraisse. Among the famous guests of the house, Madame de Stael gave performances there in 1807 with Benjamin Constant and Madame Recamier. The place also had two notable owners, the banker William Haldimand (1784-1862) and Victor Constant (1814-1902), the brother of Adrien Constant.

But the institution as we know it today started in 1971, when the house was purchased by the Vaud county, and made into a museum. The The Magz

addition of the “Cabinet cantonal des estampes” set a second milestone (between 1980 and 1985). And then in 1985 when transferred to Vevey Charles-Henri Favrod decided to turn it into a museum for photography in October 1985: the Elysée Museum was born!

In terms of conservation, what challenges do you face ?

The museum has important collections, representing almost all the photographic processes and media from the mid-nineteenth century to major contemporary digital formats. Due to the extreme sensitivity of photographic material to light, pollutants and weather conditions, and because certain media like nitrate and acetate self destroy, the museum aims at adapting its conservation and workspaces to international standards.

A few highlights of the collection ...

I would point the Gabriel Lippmann’s “Still life”, Nicolas Bouvier’s “Student Back, Sado Island, Japan” (March 1965) and René Burri’s “Zürich, Switzerland” (1980) pieces.

In addition the Elysée Museum has nearly 20,000 photo books. The photography book became a collectible object and a research topic. Aesthetic and graphic are united in these, image, typography and text, all come as one and appear to be the best source for photography history and to show the evolution of an artist.

In an unprecedented way, photographic books take a new dimension thanks to scanning. In collaboration with the Digital Laboratory of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the museum, aims at digitalizing its entire collection of books and make it available on the Internet.

There are mainly monographs of photographers and artists, as well as thematic books on landscape, portraits and surrealist photography.

Can you share how the musuem collections are built? What do they represent to date? What is the purchasing policy today and how does it work ?

The Elysée Museum determines and manages significant sets of photographers known internationally as Mario Giacomelli, Gilles Caron, Geraldo de Barros and Pieter Hugo and Swiss photographers like Paul Vionnet, Constant Delessert, Hans Steiner and Jean Mohr.

With its expertise, the museum is also internationally known for managing comprehensive photographic collections. Its collections are enriched every year by purchases, deposits and donations. All this includes the Ella Maillart Fund, as well as the Nicolas Bouvier Fund , the Charles Chaplin Archives, Marcel Imsand the Fund or the René Burri Fund. The Elysée Museum aims at welcoming new funds. It also committed to young contemporary creation, it supports Swiss artists over the long term or for specific projects.

After nearly 30 years of activity what are the new challenges to come for the Museum ?

The Elysée Museum aims at being the global standard for photographic museum. We have many challenges for the years to come.

We want to reach out to the general public as well as photography professionals. The Elysée Museum has many strengths such as the richness of its collection, its prestigious brand, thanks to its own exhibitions as well as traveling exhibitions, and various events, publishing efforts, partnerships and its photography prize (the Elysée Prize). The challenges for the future are the fact that the Museum has to account for the diversity of artistic practices related to photography, meet the expectations of a public increasingly diversified both in terms of taste, age, cultural background. It also has to be able to adapt flexibly of its premises to

accommodate changing formats and be responsive to current design enabling modular exhibits quickly. The outside projects are also a challenge as currently there are 200,000 visitors for the museum’s extramural project and 80,000 visitors in the museum itself per year.

The Elysée Museum has established itself as a place of scientific research in the field of photography, becoming a center of excellence for research and photographic motion pictures (video).

On the short term, the Elysée Museum aims at becoming the benchmark in the treatment of photography with its expertise in the history of photography, to fulfill its mission of “detector” skills and offer a contemporary understanding of photography.

Just this month the portuguese architects Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus won the project for the new museum to open in 2020 . As the museum director what are your wishes for the museum in this new phase of its development?

I wish to open the museum to all technical and scientific discoveries around the image, especially thanks to our partnership with the EPFL. It is also important to be a place that talks about the present world. And thanks to the visionary eye of the artists try to understand the world of tomorrow. We also have to ensure our international development. Some of our projects are going to be shown at the Amparo Museum in Mexico, at the Museum

of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Chile and in China. On another side we also want to develop new technologies and services to improve access to disadvantaged groups such as the disabled (“Blind Project”).

In the new museum design the storage capacity will triple so we will have enough space to host new collections in very good conditions.

In terms of contemporary photography what are your more recent discoveries?

The work of the Swiss photographer Manon Woertenbroek (Mental images of Manon) is amazing. She builds her images by accumulating layers and then photographing them as portraits. As if she needed to restore the materiality of the person, the inner, complex and unstable energy. All the preparatory work, sculpture like, takes a crucial place. The artist cuts various shapes in paper. Then she finalizes the process by shooting the result.

The work of the collector-turned-artist Thomas Sauvin, based in Beijing, is a powerful and poetic world displayed in a handmade box. “Till death do us part” shows the cigarette usage in Chinese weddings. It is customary for the bride to light a cigarette for each male guest attending. Then the newlyweds are invited to play games with cigarettes. This work focuses on a tradition where love and death are intertwined. In the “Silvermine” project the artist has saved about half million negatives from a recycling plant in the suburbs of Beijing, where they were recycling the silver nitrate. In “Silvermine” Thomas Sauvin presents a unique photographic portrait of the Chinese capital and life of its inhabitants from 1985 to 2005 (when digital photography took over).

These memories not only evoke the birth of post-socialist China but also traditions that prevail.

How should one collect photography ?

There has to be a real crush… Rubbing shoulders with photographers when they are still alive is key. Go and see exhibitions. One also has to learn how to watch and then meet other people and private collectors to exchange views and ... favorites !

omment a été créée l’institution dédiée à la Photographie qu’est le Musée de l’Elysée à Lausanne ?

La maison de maître dans laquelle est actuellement logée le musée de l’Elysée a été construite entre 1780 et 1783, dont les travaux furent dirigés par l’architecte Abraham Fraisse. Parmi les hôtes célèbres de la maison, Mme de Staël y a donné en 1807 des représentations d’Andromaque, avec Benjamin Constant et Mme Récamier. Citons également deux propriétaires notables, le banquier William Haldimand (1784-1862) et Victor de Constant (1814-1902), frère du photographe Adrien Constant de Rebecque, dit Constant Delessert (1806-1876), assez reconnu ici.

La première étape qui tend à la création de l’institution que nous connaissons aujourd’hui apparaît en 1971, lorsque la maison est achetée par l’Etat de Vaud, qui la restaure et l’aménage en partie en musée. Deuxième étape décisive, entre 1980 et 1985, elle accueille le Cabinet cantonal des estampes. Finalement, lorsque celui-ci est transféré à Vevey, au Musée Jenisch, Charles-Henri Favrod y fonde un musée pour la photographie, en octobre 1985 : Le Musée de l’Elysée était né !

Face au médium qu’est la photographie quels sont les enjeux de conservation ?

Le musée conserve d’importantes collections, réunissant pratiquement tous les procédés photographiques, des premières inventions sur divers supports (cuivre argenté, papier, verre, …) du milieu du XIXe siècle aux grands formats numériques contemporains.

En raison de l’extrême sensibilité des objets photographiques à la lumière, aux polluants et aux conditions climatiques, et de la spécificité de certains supports s’autodégradant (nitrate, acétate), le Musée de l’Elysée souhaite adapter ses espaces de conservation et de travail aux normes internationales actuelles.

Quelques highlights de la collection ...

Je choisirais : Gabriel Lippmann, Nature Morte ; Nicolas Bouvier, Retour de l’étudiant, île de Sado, Japon, mars 1965 et René Burri, Zürich, Switzerland (1980).

Le Musée de l’Elysée conserve aussi près de 20 000 livres de photographie.

Le livre de photographie est devenu objet de collection et, sujet de recherche. Esthétique et graphique, unissant, l’image, la typographie et le texte, il est l’une des, meilleures sources de l’histoire de la photographie, permettant de suivre l’évolution d’un artiste, de, comprendre une période, d’appréhender les genres et les, thématiques qui font la complexité et l’intérêt de la, photographie.

Au fur et à mesure comment se sont constituées les collections ? Que représentent-elles à ce jour ? Quelle est la politique d’achat aujourd’hui et son fonctionnement ?

Le Musée de l’Elysée détient une des collections les plus importantes et diversifiées d’Europe couvrant toute l’histoire de l’art photographique et ses aspects les plus divers.

Ses collections sont composées de près d’un million de tirages, négatifs, planchescontacts et diapositives, ainsi que d’un grand nombre d’albums. Le Musée de l’Elysée conditionne et gère des ensembles significatifs de photographes connus à l’échelle internationale comme Mario Giacomelli, Gilles Caron, Geraldo de Barros ou Pieter Hugo, ainsi que de photographes suisses tels Paul Vionnet, Constant Delessert, Hans Steiner ou Jean Mohr.

Grâce à son expertise, le musée est également internationalement connu pour la gestion de fonds photographiques complets. Ses collections s’enrichissent d’année en année par des achats, des dépôts et des dons. Il compte ainsi le Fonds Ella Maillart, le Fonds Nicolas Bouvier, les Archives Charles Chaplin, le Fonds Marcel Imsand ou encore le Fonds René Burri. Le musée de l’Elysée a pour vocation d’accueillir de nouveaux fonds.

Le Musée de l’Elysée s’engage également auprès de la jeune création contemporaine, qu’il soutient en accompagnant certains artistes suisses sur le long terme ou pour des projets spécifiques.

Après près de 30 ans d’activité quels sont les nouveaux défis du Musée ?

Le Musée de l’Elysée ambitionne d’être la référence mondiale en matière de musée photographique, avec un rayonnement tant auprès du grand public qu’auprès des professionnels de la photographie.

Aujurd’hui le Musée de l’Elysée doit rendre compte de la diversité des pratiques artistiques en lien avec la photographie mais aussi répondre aux attentes d’un public de plus en plus diversifié tant en terme de goût, d’âges, d’origines culturelles.

Par ailleurs, le Musée doit savoir adapter avec flexibilité ses lieux pour accueillir des formats changeants et être réactif à l’actualité en permettant de concevoir des expositions modulables rapidement.

Au-delà de l’enceinte du musée, du lieu d’exposition, il lui faudra aussi aller à la rencontre de nouveaux publics par le biais d’une stratégie hors les murs que cela soit par Internet ou par le biais de partenariats avec les acteurs culturels du bassin lémanique et des acteurs du monde de la photographie en Suisse allemande, en Europe et dans le reste du monde (actuellement 200’000 visiteurs hors les murs / 80’000 visiteurs au sein du musée par année en moyenne).

Enfin, le Musée doit s’imposer comme un lieu de recherche scientifique dans le domaine de la photographie en devenant un pôle de compétence en matière de recherche photographique et d’images animées (vidéo).

Alors que vient d’être dévoilé le nouveau projet architectural pour le musée attribué aux architectes Aires Mateus (Portugal) et qui verra le jour en 2020, en tant que directrice quels sont vos envies pour cette nouvelle phase du développement du musée ?

Parmi les objectifs à venir il s’agit de l’ouvrir à toutes les nouvelles découvertes techniques et scientifiques autour de l’image, Le musée doit aussi être témoin du monde d’aujourd hui. Et grâce à l’oeil visionnaire des artistes, de celui du monde de demain.

En matière de développement à l’international il nous faut favoriser l’exportation de reGenerations3 dans de nouveaux musées tels que le Museo Amparo, Puebla, Mexico ou le Musée d’art contemporain de Santiago du Chili ou bien en Chine Nous avons aussi à cœur d’approfondir la politique éditoriale avec une collection de livres en partenariat avec un éditeur réputé, de développer de nouvelles techniques et services permettant d’améliorer l’accès aux publics défavorisés tels que les handicapés (“Blind Project”). Enfin, il nous faut aussi accélérer l’archivage scientifique des dépôts pour avoir une indexation de premier ordre. Le nouveau musée dispose de capacité de stockage triplée donc nous avons la capacité d’obtenir de nouveaux dépôts.

En matière de photographie contemporaine avez vous eu des coups de cœur récents ?

Le travail de la photographe suisse Manon Woertenbroek, Les images mentales de Manon qui construit ses images en accumulant les couches et les sujets pour ensuite les photographier sous forme de portraits.

une énergie intérieure, complexe et instable, le travail préparatoire de sculpture occupe une place centrale. L’artiste découpe des formes dans du papier, qu’elle réfléchit ensuite sur un écran d’ordinateur. La finalisation du processus intervient dans la prise de vue, manière d’encadrer l’espace expressif créé et de circonscrire ces émotions.

Le travail du collectionneur Thomas Sauvin, basé à Pékin, a développé en devenant artiste, un puissant univers et une manière poétique de disposer ses images dans une boîte fabriquée à la main. Until death do us part [Jusqu’à ce que la mort nous sépare] montre le rôle inattendu des cigarettes dans les mariages chinois. La coutume veut que la mariée allume une cigarette pour chacun des hommes invités, en marque de reconnaissance. Puis, les mariés sont invités à jouer à des jeux incroyablement ingénieux avec les cigarettes. Cette publication rend hommage à une tradition dans laquelle l’amour et la mort sont intimement liés. pés depuis quelques années d’une usine de recyclage dans la banlieue de Pékin, où leur traitement permettait d’en récupérer le nitrate d’argent. Le projet “Silvermine” de Thomas Sauvin constitue un portrait photographique unique de la capitale chinoise et de la vie de ses habitants pendant vingt ans – de 1985 avec la généralisation du film argentique en Chine, jusqu’à 2005 et l’avénement de la photographie numérique. Ces souvenirs n’évoquent pas seulement la naissance de la Chine postsocialiste mais aussi celle d’une tradition qui pourrait perdurer à l’avenir.

A votre sens comment collectionner la photographie ?

Par des coups de coeur... Côtoyer des photographes quand ceux-ci sont encore vivants. Voir des expositions. Apprendre à regarder.

Paul di Felice is Senior Lecturer in Art History and Art Pedagogy and in charge of the Visual Arts Laboratory at the University of Luxembourg. His field of research is representation and deconstruction in contemporary photography. He has been a workshop leader of the annual Art Workshop organized by Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain in collaboration with University of Luxembourg, since 1998. He also works as an art critic and as an independent curator of international contemporary photography exhibitions. He is an active member of AICA and co-organizes the European Month of Photography in Luxembourg. Since 1984 he is co-editor and co-publisher of Café-Crème edition, an international art and photography magazine and edition. He has been frequently invited as a curator to international photography meetings and as a jury member for exhibitions and contemporary art biennials.

I travel a lot, do a lot of portfolio readings in Europe, and as one of the curators of the European Month of photography (a festival with 8 European capitals) I see a lot of emerging artists’ works. Sadly enough I make very few discoveries. My vision of photography has always been an open one, open to other media.

In the 80s I had to fight to have photography considered as one of the fine arts, and today there is much more media mixing between the different photography genre. One can find photojournalism and documentary photography in contemporary art museum shows.

It is also a chance for photography to be able to stop the uncontrolled flow of images by a slow questioning of the media production and presentation. For me, more than ever what is important is the way we present and show photography.

hat is your vision of photography these days?

As a curator specialized in photography for so many years what do you see today as the challenges contemporary photography has to face ?

As I mentioned before, photography should not isolate itself. It must meet the challenges of new technologies redefine its boundaries, question the image whether in analog or digital format. Photography can only succeed by opening up to other disciplines such as contemporary art who, but also integrating sociology, politics and science in its formal and aesthetic research. In many international fairs we see great pictures but often they were chosen for their formal quality, for their aesthetics, which is sometimes limited to the spectacular but lacks depth.

What is a good photographic artwork?

For me a photographic artwork is a set of photographs rather than a singular photograph.

A good photographic work is an intelligent conceptual work, a committed approach, questioning our world in an innovative and relevant photographic form.

You advise collections in their acquisition process: what is the aim of a photography collection?

The direction a collection takes depends on the collector. But what unites the majority of the collectors is passion. My experience as a consultant showed me that collectors are primarily art lovers before considering the benefits of a collection in terms of image and prestige.

How to collect photography?

I think I really could not advise collectors who do not share the same passion as me. This does not mean that I impose my own crushes; on the contrary I love the dialogue and exchange. A contemporary photography collection should not have only famous works. It should also promote and support emerging artists and take risks.

What about the rise of new media and the new methods of communication. Does this have an impact on the apprehension and understanding of photography?

I would say that new technologies have fundamentally changed photography, its production as its dissemination. When Alfred Stieglitz took his famous photograph “Entrepont” in 1917 he was not even sure of how it would come out until the arrival of the ship. Today we press the trigger as fast as we erase without thinking about it. Everything happens when selecting the photos. Similarly digital manipulation allows a hyper real perfection by mixing the real and the virtual. It is easier to accept photography as construction of reality than a mere recording of reality. But I’m not sure it really has an impact on the apprehension and understanding of the medium.

We have experienced this within the network European Month of Photography with our three editions of exhibitions around the theme of Changes (Mutations) between 2006 and 2011. The result in terms of programming and the quality of the exhibition was excellent but do these exhibits contribute to a better understanding of photography? I don’t know.

What are the most significant recent exhibitions you have liked lately?

I loved the Garry Winogrand exhibition at Jeu de Paume co-organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Washington National Gallery of Art. It was a beautiful retrospective of this great American photographer with many unseen photographs. As for thematic exhibitions, there was the “Conflict, Time, Photography” exhibition at the Museum Folkwang in Essen which was very interesting because it showed the relationship between art and document, questioning the representation of conflicts through the image.

What are your favorite photographic institutions?

There are many photographic institutions around the world which are among my favorites. Close to my hometown, I have already mentioned, the Folkwang Museum in Essen, Germany, is one of them; but if we stay in France I like the exhibitions at the Jeu de Paume Museum, at Le Bal and the Maison européenne de la photographie (the European House of Photography), our partner for the European Month of Photography.

Quelle est votre vision de la photographie actuellement ?

Je voyage beaucoup, je fais beaucoup de lectures de portfolios en Europe et en tant qu’un des commissaires d’exposition du Mois européen de la photographie (réseau de festivals de 8 capitales) je vois beaucoup de travaux d’artistes émergents. Je fais malheureusement très peu de découvertes. Ma vision de la photographie a toujours été une vision d’ouverture du medium à d’autres expressions artistiques. Alors que dans les années 80 j’ai dû me battre pour que la photographie soit reconnue comme un des beaux-arts je vois aujourd’hui beaucoup de facilités de mélanger des genres photographiques. On retrouve même du photojournalisme et de la photographie documentaire dans des expositions thématiques dans les musées d’art contemporain. C’est d’ailleurs la chance de la photographie de pouvoir arrêter le flux excessif et la vitesse des images par un questionnement lent de la production et de la présentation de la photographie. Pour moi plus que jamais c’est une question de présentation et de dispositif d’exposition.

En tant que commissaire d’exposition spécialisé en photographie depuis de nombreuses années quels sont selon vous les défis que rencontre aujourd’hui la photographie contemporaine ?

Comme je l’ai dit auparavant la photographie ne doit pas s’isoler. Elle doit relever les défis des nouvelles technologies, redéfinir ses limites, questionner l’image qu’elle soit analogique ou digitale. Elle ne peut réussir qu’en s’ouvrant aux autres disciplines comme le fait d’ailleurs l’art contemporain qui sait très bien intégrer la sociologie, la politique et les sciences dans ses recherches plastiques et esthétiques. Dans beaucoup de foires internationales spécialisées dans la photographie

on voit de très belles photos mais souvent elles ont été choisies pour leur qualité formelle, pour leur esthétisme qui se limite parfois au spectaculaire mais qui manque de profondeur.

Une bonne œuvre photographique, c’est quoi ?

J’entends par une œuvre photographique un ensemble de photographies plutôt qu’une photographie singulière. Pour moi une bonne œuvre photographique c’est un travail conceptuel intelligent, une démarche engagée et un questionnement de notre monde matérialisés sous une forme photographique innovatrice et pertinente.

Vous conseillez des collections dans leur démarche d’acquisition : quel est le sens d’une collection de photographie ?

Le sens d’une collection dépend du collectionneur. Mais ce qui réunit la majorité des collectionneurs c’est la passion. Mon expérience en tant que consultant m’a montré que les collectionneurs sont d’abord des passionnés de l’art avant de considérer les avantages d’une collection en terme d’image et de prestige.

Comment collectionner la photographie?

Je pense que je ne pourrais pas vraiment conseiller des collectionneurs qui ne partagent pas du tout la même passion avec moi.

Cela ne veut pas dire que j’impose mes coups de cœur, au contraire j’aime le dialogue et l’échange. Une collection de photographie contemporaine ne devrait pas avoir que des œuvres marquantes et confirmées mais aussi promouvoir et soutenir les artistes émergents quitte à prendre quelques risques.

Quid de l’avènement des nouveaux médias et nouveaux modes de diffusion et de communication. Est ce que cela a un impact sur l’appréhension et la compréhension que l’on peut avoir de la photographie ?

Je dirais que les nouvelles technologies ont fondamentalement changé la photographie, sa production comme sa diffusion.

Quand Alfred Stieglitz avait pris sa célèbre photo de l’ « Entrepont » en 1917 il n’était pas sûr d’avoir réussi sa composition jusqu’au moment du développement à l’arrivée du paquebot. Aujourd’hui on déclenche et on efface rapidement sans préoccupation. Tout se passe au moment de la sélection. De même pour la manipulation digitale qui permet une perfection hyper réelle en mélangeant le réel et le virtuel. On accepte plus facilement la photographie comme construction du réel que comme simple enregistrement du réel. Mais je ne suis pas sûr que cela ait vraiment un impact sur l’appréhension et la compréhension du médium.

Nous avions fait l’expérience au sein du réseau Mois Européen de la Photographie avec nos trois éditions d’expositions autour du thème des Mutations entre 2006 et 2011.

Le résultat au niveau de la programmation et de la qualité des dispositifs d’exposition était excellent mais est-ce que ces expositions sur les changements de paradigme different de la photographie ont contribué à une meilleure compréhension de la photographie? Je ne sais pas.

Les expositions récentes les plus marquantes ces derniers temps ?

J’ai beaucoup aimé l’exposition de Garry Winogrand au Jeu de Paume co-organisée par le San Francisco Museum of Modern Art et la National Gallery of Art de Washington. Une belle rétrospective de ce grand photographe américain avec néanmoins un grand nombre de photographies inédites. Et puis dans les expositions thématiques, il y a surtout l’exposition Conflict, Time, Photography au Museum Folkwang de Essen qui était très intéressante parce qu’elle thématisait la relation entre art et document en questionnant les représentations des conflits à travers l’image actuel.

Vos institutions de photographie favorites Il y a beaucoup d’institutions de photographie dans le monde qui comptent parmi mes favorites. Près de chez moi, je l’ai déjà cité, le Folkwang Museum à Essen en Allemagne, mais si nous restons en France j’aime bien les expositions du Jeu de Paume, du Le Bal et de la Maison européenne de la photographie, notre partenaire du Mois européen de la photographie.

您目前对摄影的看法是什么？ 我常常旅游，也看过很多欧洲的摄 影集。另外，作为“European Month of Photography” （一个由八个首都组成的 节事组织）的展览专员，我看到过许多新 晋艺术家的作品。但很遗憾的是，我只发 掘到很少的优秀作品。我的摄影视角是很 开放的，它可以联系不同的媒介以及其它 的艺术表达。在80年代，为了让摄影被 认为是艺术的一员，我不得不自我斗争。 而现在，不同种类的摄影的混合越来越容 易。我们甚至可以在当代艺术博物馆的主 题展览中看到新闻照片以及文献照片。摄 影很幸运的是能够减慢图像消逝的速度， 因为摄影作品的产出和展示是一个缓慢的 过程。对于我来说， 展览的展示方式和展 览的设备是很重要的。 作为一位已经多年专注于摄影的展览 专员，对于您来说，当代摄影的挑战是什 么？ 就像我刚才所说的， 摄影不应该离 群。它应该迎接新技术的挑战，重新审视 它的限制，向它类似的或者是数码的照片 提出质疑。它只有向其他学科打开大门才 能获得成功，就像当代艺术在探索造型或 美学的时候也会融合社会学，政治，科学 等元素。在许多国际摄影交易会上，我们 看到众多十分漂亮的照片，但这些照片是 由于它们迎合大众的形式和美学而被选择 展出的，它们缺少深度。 一张好的摄影作品是怎么样的？ 相对于一张特别的照片，我更偏向于 成组的摄影作品。一个好的摄影作品对于 我来说，是一个有着智慧的概念的工作、 一个对当代问题表态的步伐以及一份以创 新的摄影呈现的，关于我们这个物质世界 的问卷。

THE 14TH ISTANBUL BIENNIAL TRAVELLING SECTION

L

a quatorzième édition de la Biennale d’Istanbul s’inscrit résolument comme une biennale de la résistance.

Elle est marquée par la récurrence d’œuvres réaffirmant le refus d’une certaine forme d’érosion culturelle, celle de la culture arménienne en particulier ici. Plusieurs artistes de la Biennale ont ainsi réagi au contexte qu’offrait le centenaire cette année du génocide arménien. Les propositions artistiques sont tour à tour subtiles ou directes, évoquent avec émotion, poésie mais toujours sans concession la blessure de ce génocide et ses conséquences. Comment lutter contre l’effacement culturel si ce n’est en rappelant cent ans plus tard ce que représentait cette communauté pour la Turquie.

active, c’est désormais dans des ruines à ciel ouvert que les enfants jouent à se cacher dans les herbes hautes munis d’appeaux, ces petites flûtes reproduisant le bruit des oiseaux. Le jeu de cache-cache de ces enfants facétieux au départ amusant ne peut manquer de jeter un certain trouble. De qui ces enfants se cachent ils ? Que fuient-ils ?

Ainsi, Francis Alys évoque avec beaucoup de poésie dans sa vidéo en noir et blanc « The Silence of Ani » l’épineux sujet d’une communauté qui doit se cacher. Cette installation, produite pour la Biennale, a été réalisée après un voyage de recherche à Ani, dans la zone frontalière avec l’Arménie. Jadis ville The Magz

Ailleurs, poussant la réflexion de façon plus directe l’artiste Silvina Der-Merguerditchian a invité plusieurs artistes à réaliser des œuvres miniatures autour des thèmes de la peur, du trauma, des démons intérieurs qui pourraient être liés à la sinistre année de 1915 ou non.

Elle-même montre sur un socle blanc une taie d’oreiller immaculée remplie de pierres à la place des plumes que l’on aurait pu attendre.

Que ses nuits ont du être dures de ces souvenirs ancrés dans la mémoire familiale. L’artiste Hera Büyüktasciyan évoque le déchirement familial avec un simple fil rouge entre une main en étain accrochée au mur et un autre groupe de trois mains (le reste de la famille ?). Tel le fil des Parques ce fragile lien on le sait va se rompre face au déferlement des événements.

Dans un autre site de la Biennale, dans l’ancienne école grecque de la ville, c’est un artiste venu des Etats Unis qui se confronte au sujet. Dans « The flesh is yours, the bones are ours » (la chair est votre, les os notre), Michael Rakowtiz propose une série d’installations évoquant aussi la disparition de la culture arménienne. Rakowitz se concentre sur cette époque précise où Istanbul voit l’architecture Art Nouveau se répandre, mais qui au même moment voit sa population arménienne disparaître. Rakowitz prend pour inspiration un artisan arménien de l’époque Garabet Cezaryiriyan chargé de réaliser les moulages et les frises des façades en construction. Gardien de techniques anciennes, Garabet mélangeait son plâtre avec des os broyés, dont des os canins, inspirant ainsi Rakowitz dans cette nouvelle série. Techniques anciennes qui s’estompent, chiens tués en masse, toutes ces métaphores visent à donner à réfléchir sur ce qui s’est passé il y a un siècle en Turquie. Ainsi, Rakowitz, comme nombre des artistes de cette Biennale, posent ainsi la question de la transmission et du devoir de mémoire.

In his latest production, a black and white video entitled “The Silence of Ani”, Francis Alys addresses the thorny issue of a community that has to hide. This installation, produced for the Biennial, has been produced after a research trip to Ani, on the border with Armenia. This formerly buoyant city is now in ruins. In these ruins children play and hide. In their games they use decoys, these little flutes reproducing the sound of birds. The hide and seek game looks fun at first yet becomes troublesome after a while. Who are these children hiding from ? What are they fleeing?

The Istanbul Biennial 2015 as a main course

T

he fourteenth edition of the Istanbul Biennial is for sure an act of resistance. Many of the works presented fight against any kind of cultural erosion, yet often referring to the Armenian culture. Quite a few artists of this year’s Biennial have presented projects echoing to the centenary this year of the Armenian Genocide. These artistic proposals, whether in a direct way or a more subtle form, talk about emotion, poetry yet do not shy away from the genocide’s wound and its consequences.

In another show, the artist Silvina Der-Merguerditchian pushes the envelope and invites several artists to create miniature works around the themes of fear, trauma, inner demons that might be related to the disaster of 1915, or not.

A work of her own is made of a white pillow case full of stones, instead of the usual feathers. How hard on her those nights when memories come back to the surface must have been ?

Another artist, Hera Büyüktasciyan, alludes to torn families. On one side, one hand holds a red thread whereas on the other side there are three other had (the other part of the very same family ?). What happened to this family shows how fragile is fate.

At the Galata Greek School, it is a US basedartist who tackles the subject. In « The flesh is yours, the bones are ours », Michael Rakowtiz presents a sey of various installations, all linked to disappearance of the Armenian culture. Rakowitz focuses on this specific time (at the turn of the 20th century) when Istanbul witnessed the Art Nouveau architecture spread, but at the same time saw its Armenian population disappear. Rakowitz takes his inspiration from an Armenian craftsman of the time called Garabet Cezaryiriyan. Garabet was responsible for doing moldings on the buildings’ facades. As the guardian of ancient techniques, Garabet mixed his plaster with crushed bones, including dog bones and inspiring Rakowitz in this new series.

Old techniques that fade away, dogs murdered in mass killings, all these metaphors are intended at make us think about what happened a century ago in Turkey. In the end, Rakowitz, like many artists of the Biennale, raises the question of cultural transmission and the importance of not forgetting this kind

ctuel propriétaire des lieux Jean-Pierre Marois témoigne : « Proust un bain sulfureux, Joy Division un album live, Warhol la fièvre des samedis soirs, Saint-Laurent des dîners d’after show, Guetta un résident inconnu aux platines, de Niro le monde réinventé dans le back office, Prince les show-cases impromptus… Par leur seul nom, Les Bains font surgir tout un monde de vivantes inspirations et d’expériences inouïes, d’avant-gardes excentriques et de pionniers iconiques. Pour saisir l’esprit des Bains, il faut remonter le temps au point d’embrasser le présent de chaque époque.

Jusqu’à la nôtre. » Initiateur de la réinvention de ce lieu mythique de l’architecture et de la scène parisienne, cet hôtelier est à l’initiative de cette folle idée qui est de faire revivre le lustre de ce lieu magique.

Depuis 1885, l’âme des Bains a brillé sous l’éclat des créateurs d’étincelles.

En 2015 le lieu revit en un hôtel des plus tendances. Avec des chambres chacune uniques, un bar somptueux, un restaurant accueillant, un spa, un club et des espaces qui ont gardé le charme d’antan tel le salon chinois comme si tout droit sorti du XIXème siècle, les Bains sont un lieu étonnant.

A partir de 1885, Les Bains Douches, construits puis exploités par la famille Guerbois, accueillent les plus célèbres thermes privés de la capitale. L’espace fut un temple de massages, bains sulfureux, japonais, russes et turcs, on pouvait choisir de nager dans la piscine ou même de se faire porter un bain à domicile ! Marcel Proust aimait y venir prendre des bains de vapeurs, les forts des Halles — toutes proches — allaient s’y doucher et boire un café calva au petit matin.

En 1978, l’endroit inédit devient salle de concert rock et temple nocturne du clubbing parisien. Les Bains s’érigent vite en institution culturelle et mondaine à la croisée des modes, lieu-référence du monde des médias, du spectacle et des arts au rayonnement universel. Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Bono, Prince, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, etc. La liste est infinie. En 2011, pour réinventer et sauver cette icône de la vie parisienne, La Société des Bains voit le jour sous l’impulsion de Jean-Pierre Marois... C’est ici la toute première page de la nouvelle histoire des Bains. En janvier 2013 la Résidence d’Artistes aux Bains reprend le fil de cette histoire mythique qu’on n’attendait plus à force de l’espérer. Bombe, pochoir, photographie, affiche, brosse, éponge, craie, marteau-piqueur, installation, le répertoire est éblouissant.

Un premier événement coup de poing qui réveille le mythe des Bains toujours bien vivants.

En 2015 c’est sous la forme d’un lieu unique mais avant tout lieu de vie parisien, que les Bains rouvrent. he current owner of the place Jean-Pierre Marois says: “From Proust’s steam baths, Joy Division’s live album recorded here, Warhol’s wild parties, Yves Saint Laurent’s dinners, the very beginning of then emerging DJ David Guetta, endless talks with Robert de Niro, Prince’s impromptu show-cases ... all this shows how iconic is Les Bains through the ages.” Now the place has been renovated and shaped into a boutique hotel yet to capture the spirit of Les Bains, we must go back in time. Since its birth in 1885, the soul of Les Bains has sparked the imagination of creative people and trendsetters: those who blaze the trail and provide the catalyst for all who follow.

Opened in 1885, Les Bains Douches, built and operated by the Guerbois family, became the first and the most renowned bathhouse of the capital. It was a temple; a space sanctified to massages and delights of Japanese, Russian, Turkish and sulphur baths. Customers could choose to swim in the pool or take a bath as they would at home. Marcel Proust loved to come and take steam baths, while the workers from the nearby Les Halles food market came at dawn to shower and drink coffee and calvados after their night’s labours.

In 1978, this unique place transformed clubbing into an art and rapidly became a cultural phenomenon; a temple of the Parisian night. It was a centre of gravity, the eye of the storm, a crossroads of fashion, media, show business and arts. Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Bono, Prince, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, etc. The list is endless.

In 2011, to reinvent and save this icon of Parisian nightlife, La Société des Bains was born under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Marois... This, then, is the very first page of the new history of Les Bains.

In January 2013, the Artists’ Residency picked up the thread of a dormant legend which many thought would never rise again. A bold artistic adventure under the curatorship of Magda Danysz, with Colombe de La Taille in charge of production and communication, gave rise to a unique opportunity to pay homage to the artistic DNA and write the first page of the new Bains. From the mosaics of Space Invaders to the frescoes of the American artist Futura; from the legendary Jacques Villeglé to the 25 years old Portuguese painter VHILS, not forgetting C215, Ash and Sten Lex, the whole golden class of street art were given free rein to express themselves upon every inch of the 3000 m² of Les Bains. Aerosol, marker, stencil, photography, poster, brush, sponge, chalk, pneumatic drill, installation; a dazzling repertoire of methods and media. A first punch shock event to reawaken the myth of Les Bains.

In 2015, it is a totally renovated place that opened. More than just aboutique hotel it is a very pasian place that comes back to life.

As shared by Marois himself “Les Bains is not just luxury hotel, it is more about a place of social and artistic emulsion, a cult night club and a neochic Parisian brasserie. All this offers the experience of a new way of living, vibrant, connected, opened to the world. “

Tel-Aviv born Ron Arad (born in 1951) has studied in Jerusalem and London with Bernard Tschumi as a professor and Zaha Hadid as a classmate. He became famous in the 80s for using new materials and technologies in a non conventional way. Transforming and experimenting everything he touches made him more of a sculptor than a designer. Arad creates pure shapes, loves curves and aims at unique pieces. Function follows form for Arad. Creation comes first.

Among many others, he has collaborated with Vitra, Cassina, Driade, Fiam, Kartell, Artemide, Alessi, Flos. In 2008, he designed the Bauhaus Museum in Tel-Aviv. He has also conceived the Design Museum in Holon (2010), the first of its kind in Israel.

The facetious designer and architect Ron Arad signs an artwork for Ruinart.

The Ruinart Champagne introduces a new artistic collaboration with the Israeli architect and designer Ron Arad. This famous artist’s trademark is characterized by curves and unusual material use. His most famous past accomplishments include the Rover Chair, the Bookworm bookshelf, and the Well-Tempered chair.

For Ruinart, Ron Arad worked on a champagne mirror like a stainless exclusive vasque.

This amazing art object has been done in only five editions, numbered and signed by the art-

ist and presented in a beautiful wooden trunk.

Pure elegance and light shape the Ruinart world. Ron Arad has managed to incarnate the Ruinart DNA and made it tangible in this pure contemporary object. One might think this piece of art is a sculpture, but it aims also at being a practical object. The artist, who likes to break free from conventions, has applied his mastery of curves and metal modeling to create a delicate pleated and very contemporary shaped vasque.

on Arad est un designer israélien né en 1951 à Tel-Aviv et reconnu depuis les années 1980. Il étudie l’architecture à l’Architectural Association School of Architecture de Londres où Bernard Tschumi est son professeur et Zaha Hadid sa collègue. Il découvre le design en Italie.

Ron Arad utilise des technologies et des matériaux avec des modalités et des formes tout à fait nouvelles. Manipulation, transformation et expérimentation sont les maître-mots de l’esprit de ses créations. Son design se caractérise par des formes pures, non conventionnelles et un goût pour les courbes qui le place dans la lignée des designers sculpteurs. Sa démarche est en effet plus celle d’un artiste que d’un designer industriel, en témoignent le côté objet unique de ses créations, et le fait que leur fonction n’est pas un critère de premier ordre dans le processus de création.

Il a collaboré, entre autres, avec Vitra, Cassina, Driade, Fiam, Kartell, Artemide, Alessi, Flos.

En 2008, il conçoit le Musée du Bauhaus à Tel-Aviv. Il a également conçu (avec Bruno Asa) le Design Museum Holon. Inauguré en 2010, ce dernier est le premier musée israélien consacré au design.

a Maison de champagne Ruinart signe une nouvelle collaboration artistique avec l’architecte et designer israélien Ron Arad. Cet artiste haut en couleurs se distingue par la maîtrise des courbes et par son travail des matières. Parmi ses réalisations antérieures les plus célèbres on compte le fauteuil Rover, l’étagère Bookworm, ou encore la chaise Well-Tempered.

Pour la Maison Ruinart, Ron Arad a travaillé avec l’Orfèvrerie d’Anjou sur une vasque en étain massif. Ce matériau inoxydable et facilement modulable offre un rendu extrêmement éclatant. Bel objet d’art, cette vasque existe en cinq exemplaires numérotées et signées par l’artiste, placés dans une jolie malle en bois. Élégance, pureté, lumière définissent l’univers de la Maison Ruinart, qui s’est associée au célèbre designer qu’est Ron Arad pour imaginer un objet de service contemporain. L’artiste, qui aime à se libérer des conventions, s’est affranchi de toutes contraintes. Il a appliqué sa maîtrise des courbes et du métal à une vasque qu’il a déformée en la pressant, lui donnant ainsi un plissé délicat et très contemporain.

C’est à l’Orfèvrerie d’Anjou que la Maison Ruinart et Ron Arad ont décidé de confier la réalisation de cette vasque. Son matériau emblématique, l’étain massif, a été choisi pour ses facultés à se modeler facilement, son côté inoxydable et son rendu extrêmement brillant. Entre la fonte des lingots d’étain, le laminage, le tournage, le polissage et la gravure, l’expertise de L’Orfèvrerie d’Anjou a été un véritable atout pour permettre la réalisation de ce projet audacieux. Chaque pièce, numérotée et signée, est unique. Tout en restant fonctionnelle, elle devient un objet collector et magique.
