Trend & Color REPORT AW 18/19 MAGGIE HOYLE FASH 419
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Color is something our minds react to immeditately and these reactions are unique and personal. Color is triggering, in both beautiful and ugly ways. Color is bold. Lack of color is brave. Color is immedite. Color is reactive. Society plays a huge role in our overall outlook on life and I believe the way we choose to express ourselves through color is a reaction to our surrounding stimili. Each and every aspect of our lives is influenced by the world around us - our relationships, the current political structure, our views on women and lastly, technology. I’ve chosen to focus on how these four concepts manifest into strong color stories for the upcoming season of AW 18/19. Each concept provokes personal opinion and perception and the following color story speaks to mine. I believe love (and lust) is bold and daring. I believe politics are starch and allued to our future. I believe women are beautiful and soft. I believe technology is exciting and provacative. I embrace this new world of provateurs and explorers and I believe these color palettes do the same. I welcome you to explore these rich color palettes with an open mind and see where yours takes you. MAGGIE HOYLE editor-in-chief

Love and Lust - two strong emotions that speak to the relationships we build. These strong emotions lend themselves to this rich, jewel tone color palette. These colors excite and arouse a sense of warth but one that might be fleeting. There is a duality between the ideas of love and lust but this duality has a natural balance that creates a synchronicty. This color palette aims to mimic that balance. jewel opening

This neutral palette is inspired by the ever growing political climate that we are constantly emersed in. People are moving in society with a purpose and with a response, constatnly moving us forward. This manifests itself in a minimalistic and futuristic color plaette. I feel that we are constantly bombarded with so much information, mostly negative and I think this futuristic trend is a way of responding with subtraction. Subtraction ofcolor, subtraction of exaggerated design and subtraction of flamboyancy.

Pastels and femininity traditionally go hand in hand and this color palette aims to reflect that classic connection and twist it. In todays society, the way women are viewed is being challenged. Some women are responding with aggression and rejection of femme culture. Other women are responding with embrace. This color pallette is doing just that, embracing our natural feminity. The colors while light, also have a lack of luster. A lack of luster which creates that connection between rejection and embrace. Design will follow this color pallette with a further reflection of exagerated feminine style while including some harsher elements.

The meta color story is a response to the ever growing amount of technology we face in everyday. We are constantly using technology and letting it intertwine every aspect of our life. This coinsides with the term meta, because it means repetition. The goal of this color palette is to bombard the eye and will mostly be seen in monochromatic styles. In this way, the color feels like a constant much like technology is for our s ociety.
