Welcome Messages
On behalf of the team at Magic Millions, we proudly welcome you to the 2019 The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival.
This is our showcase event, where we have the opportunity to welcome you to the glorious Gold Coast to experience a perfect Queensland summer and outstanding thoroughbred action – on the polo field, in the sale ring and on the racetrack.
The love of the horse is what makes this Carnival so special. Wherever you may be around the world, if you love horses you must be on the Gold Coast this January. We invite you to join us and share in the equine excitement that is the 2019 The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival.
The central event that shapes our magnificent twelve day Carnival is the Gold Coast Yearling Sale. On behalf of breeders throughout Australia and New Zealand, we are privileged to present to you a catalogue of over 1,100 yearlings of exceptional quality.
Similar to any proud parent, we are honoured that the Gold Coast Yearling Sale catalogued and sold the world’s best racehorse in Winx. 29 consecutive wins, 22 at Group One level and an historic four Cox Plate victories in succession, Winx’s unmatched racetrack record is forever life changing for her breeder, owners, trainer and jockey.
Now we are also proud to boast even further bragging rights about our flagship sale. The Gold Coast Yearling Sale has officially sold the two highest prizemoney earners in Australian racing history in Winx – and in Redzel, a multiple Group One winning sprinter and dual winner of The Everest.
Magic Millions is irrefutably the place to purchase your next breedshaping stallion. For proof look no further than the catalogue for the 2019 edition of the sale which features the progeny of countless past star Magic Millions yearling sale graduates. Snitzel, Sebring, Written Tycoon, Zoustar, Vancouver, Star Witness, Pierro, Dissident, Not a Single Doubt, Rubick, Shooting to Win, Sizzling, Spirit of Boom, Savabeel and Unencumbered were all sold on the Gold Coast.
Prior to the sales ring action, The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival commences with the Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo on Sunday 6 January. This will be the third year the polo event has been a feature on the Carnival calendar. We are immensely excited to have world leading polo players including Nacho Figueras as well as the Patron of Magic Millions Racing Women, Zara Phillips MBE and her husband Mike Tindall, as part of the day.
The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday to be held on Saturday 12 January features an exhilarating program of nine races and $10 million in prizemoney. Now cemented as one of the top ten annual racemeetings in the world, this Raceday will showcase leading horses, trainers and jockeys highlighted by the running of the $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic in conjunction with the $500,000 Racing Women’s Bonus, and the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
Along with our brilliant new naming rights partner in The Star Gold Coast, Magic Millions could not present this Carnival without the ongoing and valued support of our principal partners. We gratefully acknowledge the support of both Tourism and Events Queensland and Racing Queensland.
Magic Millions also sincerely acknowledges the support of partners Pacific Fair, BetEasy, Harrolds, Woodford Reserve, Moët & Chandon, Singapore Airlines, Seven West Media, and Sky Thoroughbred Central.
On behalf of the Magic Millions team, it is our pleasure to invite you to join us in January for the next life changing edition of The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival.
Message from the Minister for Tourism Industry Development
It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the Gold Coast for The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival.
The Carnival has grown greatly in recent years – now offering a range of events for racegoers both on and off the track. The Gold Coast is the ideal setting for ten action-packed days of world-class thoroughbred racing, thoroughbred yearling sales, a polo match and a series of social events across the Carnival.
The Queensland Government is proud to support the 2019 The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Major Events Program, which support events that drive visitation and support local jobs.
Congratulations to all those involved in organising the event and I encourage visitors to take the time to explore the Gold Coast.
Message from The Mayor
No other nation on Earth stops in its tracks for a horse race. It is this passion for the sport of kings that has made the Magic Millions Carnival such a vital fixture of our national sporting calendar.
Not only is the Carnival an entertainment feast for horse lovers and racing enthusiasts – not to mention quite a few fashionistas! – but it is a hugely valuable stimulus to one of Australia’s major economic sectors.
Government research puts the total value of the horse industry at $8 billion a year, with well over 100,000 racehorse owners heavily invested in the sector. Many of these enthusiasts and shrewd business people will, as usual, be making their way to Gold Coast early in 2019 for all the excitement, glamour and adrenaline of the next Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Bloodlines are already being assessed in minute detail but gut instinct will always play a part when it comes to bidding for a potential slice of glory. Bidders will be hoping to secure the next World Turf Champion, like Winx, who was purchased from this same sale ring in 2013 for $230,000. Her owners have now celebrated 29 consecutive stakes wins. Who’d like to share that sort of success?
But Winx is far from unique as Magic Millions was also the sale source of The Everest winner, Redzel. Bear in mind The Everest is the richest turf race in the world and Redzel was purchased from this same sale in 2014 for $120,000. In fact, Winx and Redzel are the two greatest prizemoney earners in Australian history, with their current earnings around $20 million and $15 million respectively.
And it is not just domestic enthusiasts wanting to own the future champions parading at the Yearling Sale; they will face plenty of competition from international bidders as Australian horses are now exported to around 22 countries.
So, back a winner and get to Gold Coast any way you can to be part of what is truly an historic Yearling Sale. Be close to the best in the world. Be at Gold Coast. I’d love to say Hello!
