Previously selling under the combined Southern Cross banner, Ashleigh Thoroughbreds have a solid record with their own farm producing Gr.1 graduates such as Coolmore Classic winner Danni Martine, VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese (dam of Bound for Earth), and One Thousand Guineas winner All Time High (dam of Zydeco). Recent sales include Listed placed two year-old Wedgetail who ran third in the 2018 MRC Debutant Stakes, Listed, on debut. Ashleigh Thoroughbreds also sold stakes horses Quick Feet (the most expensive yearling filly by Northern Meteor, and a city winner who was multiple Gr.2 placed), and this season’s three year-old The Tenor (third in the 2018 Listed Brian Crowley Stakes).

Ashleigh’s two fillies by Champion Two Year-Old sire More Than Ready are bound to attract attention. Twice leading sire of two year-olds in Australia, More Than Ready’s Gr.1 winners are evenly split between fillies and colts, with racemares such as More Joyous, Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Rushing Fall, Samaready, Carry On Cutie, and Champion 2YO in South Africa Entisaar, all highlighting his ability to throw top two year-old fillies. The filly from winning mare Miss Venice is from the family of Gr.1 winner Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel, while the filly from winning mare Kawanishi, is a daughter of Gr.2 winner Seika (also dam of Clothilde and Clown Master). Kawanishi’s first foal is already a dual winner.

Everyone wants an I Am Invincible, thanks to the deeds of Brazen Beau, Viddora, I Am A Star, Hellbent, Oohood, media sensation in New Zealand and Champion Two Year-Old in Singapore Super One, and Ashleigh Thoroughbreds has a colt out of Senta Helga, who is a winning full sister to Hong Kong Champion stayer Liberator. Smart Missile’s colt is out of Dark Love, a winning half-sister to stakes winner Cohort, and stakes horses Dark Miss, and Red Amber. This is also the family of Gr.2 winner Churchill Dancer.

ASHLEIGH THOROUGHBREDS, THE HUNTER VALLEY PROPERTY OF IVAN WOODFORD- SMITH AND SENGA BISSETT, WILL BRING A DRAFT OF NINE YEARLINGS TO THE 2019 MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST SALE.

This season’s stakes placed three year-old The Tenor has a half-brother on offer in the Ashleigh draft, by proven sire Foxwedge. Both this yearling colt, and The Tenor, are out of winning General Nediym mare Bay Trixie, who is a half-sister to the dam of recent stakes winner From Within. Gr.1 winner Foxwedge has ten stakeswinners under his belt, including Gr.1 winners Foxplay, Volpe Veloce, and Urban Fox.

A filly by first season sire Super One out of winning Flying Spur mare Flying First Class is an interesting proposition for buyers, as this is a tough New Zealand family that includes Gr.1 winners Brambles, Slight Chance, and many other stakes winners. Super One (by I Am Invincible) was rated Champion Two Year-Old in Singapore in 2015 and won all four of his starts at that age including the Listed Aushorse Golden Horseshoe.

Full-brothers, Shooting To Win and Deep Field, both have first season two year-olds in 2018/19, and Ashleigh Thoroughbreds has a yearling by each of them in their Magic Millions Gold Coast draft. Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win has already clocked up an early two year-old winner with Intrepidacious winning in the city. Ashleigh’s colt by Shooting To Win is from Killcare Beach, who is a full sister to Gr.3 winner Publishing, and a half-sister to stakes winner Miss Mooney Mooney. Killcare Beach is closely related to Better Than Ready, the current leading first season sire thanks to his two year-old winners The Odyssey and Betaima. This is the family of tough Gr.2 winning sprinter Illustrious Lad. Deep Field (by Northern Meteor) blitzed the fields in his two starts at three, then won a Gr.2 sprint at four as well as placing behind Champion Sprinter Lankan Rupee in the Gr.1 Lightning Stakes. Ashleigh’s Deep Field filly is out of winning mare Love the Rock, who is a half-sister to the Gr.1 placed dam of group winner Rhythm to Spare.

Rounding out the draft is a colt by freshman sire Headwater from winning Lonhro mare Amarachi, who is from the family of Magic Albert. Headwater is superbly bred, being by Exceed and Excel from Gr.1 Oakleigh Plate winner River Dove. A Gr.2 winner as a two year-old, Headwater’s yearling should appeal to buyers looking for a precocious type. Ivan and Senga are renowned in the industry for their all round horsemanship and attention to detail. Ashleigh Stud’s 2019 Magic Millions draft is one that all serious buyers will be inspecting with interest. l
