“So far Spirit Of Boom has been represented by six 2YO stakes winners and five of them were sold by Eureka,” said Harry McAlpine, proud of the achievements of the likes of Kinky Boom, Outback Barbie, EF Troop, Champagne Boom and Heaven’s Deal.
“Spirit Of Boom just keeps throwing good looking foals, which has seen many breeders keep supporting him during his unproven years.”
“He was such a tough horse, racing for a long time, often overcoming trouble. His progeny seem to have the same attributes and the future looks good!”
Including the immediate future with Eureka presenting an impressive Magic Millions draft...

Bluebloods had a chat with Harry’s brother Angus in the lead up to the sale... What are the main factors you take into account when planning matings?
“First and foremost is type. What sort of stallion does a mare need? Based on the mare herself or her progeny to date. We breed to sell and so need good commercial appeal as well. We also look at how broodmare sires match up with certain sire lines and we take note of the weanling sales for new sires.”
What are your top go to spots after a sales day?
“After a long day’s work we usually go to the Magic Millions bar for a quiet shandy or two.”
What was your first job?
“I left school and started working at Eureka. At 18 I went to the National Stud in England where I completed my diploma before stints at Willingham House, Coolmore (Ireland) and Windsor Park (NZ). I returned home to Eureka just in time for Spirit of Boom’s first season at stud.”
What is your hidden talent?
“I don’t think I have one. All of my talents (or lack thereof) are on display for all to see!”
Who was the biggest influence in your life?
“My dad Scott. I have always aspired to be like him. He is a good bloke and a great horseman and one day I’d like to be just like him.” l
