wear Wonderfully wild Colourful animal prints and snakeskin prints, especially python, demand attention, thanks to leading designers Gucci, Roberto Cavalli and Chloe not being prepared to let them go, and popular labels like São Paulo and Storm keep the look alive this season.
Top Tip Color-blocking is pairing bright, solid colors together, but no more than three.
Mix and match Match colours with patterns and make a statement by clashing those patterns – British designer Vivienne Westwood shows us how it’s done by breaking all the rules with her styles.
Stay clear of bright pieces on those troubled areas!
A grand statement Solid colours remain this winter, but this time round have some fun and add snakeskin and prints to colour blocking! Look out for hot reds, bright blues, and burnt orange in the mix.

Colour trends for winter feature striking red tones; actress Christina Hendricks from Mad Men has helped make red the most requested tone. However, balayage is the true winner of the colour palate. This style of colouration can be used on most hair colours and is the act of fading out from the natural colour at the roots, to a lighter, by varying degrees, colour at the tips. Twists on this style could be a darker base colour such as a light brown, with a lighter variation of the base colour.

And don’t forget, once you have you’re new Winter look, stop in for a coffee and relax!
Clothing alterations and repairs are often put in the too hard basket; they can be easily remedied at Streetwize on Blenheim Road. Streetwize has been around for 28 years and has a combined knowledge from Pauline owner/manager, Sharon, Grace and Tracey of 126 years experience. Pauline was trained by Stylemaster and is very “old school” when it comes to tailoring and believes in the true and tried way. Many have quoted Pauline as being “a perfectionist who does an amazing job and who will always be honest with her customers”. “We can alter just about any piece of clothing to suit people’s individual shape” says Pauline. “Our biggest piece of advice for our customers is to always fit to the largest point on your body and we can tailor the rest to fit you perfectly.”
With such a wide range of garments from all over the world, remember to try everything on, there is such a large variation in sizing between New Zealand, the United States and European labels. Streetwize’s quality is extremely high and the good news is that it doesn’t cost the earth. Zips can be replaced from as little as $28, trouser and sleeve hems from $18.50 and jackets from $38.00. Streetwize can fix nearly every garment, make your dream garment or cover cushions, all in fabric or leather. There is no job too big or small, urgent repairs can be catered for. Streetwize has had several “quake” moves but is now happily based at 311 Blenheim Road, opposite Middleton Road.

Top Tip You can match your peep toes with your tights or go bold for a complete contrast with brightly colored tights.
walk on by
Pick elegant tights to go with your peep toes for evening wear.
Winter is just around the corner, so get your bootylicious fix! Shoe and boot styles this winter cover every trend from forties starlet to seventies babe with lots of detailing and opulent designs. Colours span the spectrum from black to dark blue, burgundy, chocolate, deep violet, khaki and red. Peep toes reign; wear them with tights, and the ankle boot is one of this season’s biggest trends when paired with a dress or skirt, opt for a darker toned boot if your legs are a little wider to pull off this look. Take a trip back in time to the flirty forties with kitten heels, stilettos and boots featuring feminine detailing like ruffles, lace, buttons and bows. If you like to keep it simple then the seventies style is for you with boots in palettes of black, red, chesnut and chocolate tones, which transition from day to night with ease.
These seventies inspired boots come in all heel heights from shorter, wider heels and rounder toes which are super comfortable through to higher heels which are perfect for evening.
Colours span the spectrum from black to dark blue, burgundy, chocolate, deep violet, khaki and red.
Suede is another popular look this season with shoes and boots featuring suede detailing. Just remember to waterproof your footwear before you go jumping in puddles! Shoes span a range of heights from low kitten heels and wedges through to stilettos that are perfect for date night. Patent leather heels are another hit item with hot red being the star of the season. You can go for a simple look or choose a shoe embellished with detailing like bows and buckles.
