aving spent two periods of her life in Trier, Gabriele D. Grawe is no stranger to Luxembourg as she prepares to take up her post as the new curator of the Villa Vauban. She is particularly enthusiastic about the city art museum’s threefold concept of focusing on the history of the collection, the restoration of art works and the socio-historical context in which the exhibitions are shown. Audiences want big special exhibitions, she says. “But you also have to learn to work with the collection you have and to always bear in mind what the profile of the museum is. It is important to get close to your audience, and it is important how you exhibit something so that visitors leave with a feeling they have learned something and want to come back.” Q

yant vécu à deux reprises à Trèves, Gabriele D. Grawe connaît bien Luxembourg, où elle se prépare à occuper le poste de nouvelle curatrice de la Villa Vauban. Ce qui lui plaît particulièrement, c’est le « triple concept » cher au musée d’art de la ville : l’accent mis sur l’histoire de la collection, la restauration d’œuvres d’art et le contexte sociohistorique des expositions. Le public veut se rendre à de grandes expositions, dit-elle. « Mais il faut aussi apprendre à travailler avec la collection qui est la nôtre et toujours garder à l’esprit le style du musée. Il est important d’être proche du public et aussi de soigner la présentation des œuvres, pour que les visiteurs repartent avec le sentiment d’avoir appris quelque chose et aient envie de revenir. » Q
