The purpose of the Major Events Portfolio is to summarise future hosting opportunities for Destinations and provide current and future event insights for companies to support targeted business development. Where there is interest in any opportunity, MEI is authorised to conduct the initial round of engagement, followed by facilitating meetings or calls to reach a go/ no-go decision. Subsequently, MEI liaison ensures smooth communication to maintain tight oversight of opportunity development. MEI Support Services and event hosting opportunities are also included.
The information which follows supports the 3 key MEI client communities: Destinations (defined below), Rights Holders (Sport and wider events) and expert delivery companies (local to a Destination and International). In all cases the process starts with clarifying objectives, development of a campaign plan and facilitated initial contact and follow up to a defined conclusion.

“MEI PROVIDE UNPARALLELED OPPORTUNITIES FOR DIRECT ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL FEDERATIONS, SPORTS EVENTS, HOST CITIES AND EXPERT SUPPLIERS”
Ian Adamson President, World Obstacle
Destinations are defined as Cities, Regions or Venues capable of hosting single or multi-format events either under single year or, increasingly, multi-year agreements. Destination plans can also include city centres and iconic landmarks which supports media attention and enhances the visitor experience delivering a stronger return on investment. Additional to the events listed, enquiries are welcome to host or support training camps, Annual General Assemblies, or Business of Sport, or other subject specific, Summits. MEI can enhance your win probability by developing or reviewing your hosting strategy, providing facilitated access to Rights Holders or representation on your behalf (in the right time zone), and enhanced international market profile through a fully integrated campaign plan.
MEI supports suppliers, ranging from bespoke solution providers to multi-capability solution providers. These could be local companies where the information about confirmed destinations match their geographic area of interest or international companies who are seeking to enter new markets which may result in an enduring
business presence. Rights Holders task MEI to engage with companies capable of sharing their delivery experience generally and where cost savings, reduced risks, shared revenue potential, greater fan engagement, and enhanced visitor experiences are highly valued. Notify MEI if support to engaging with rightsholders could help you secure new business via unsolicited innovative proposals, insights into tenders, or negotiations regarding value-in-kind or sponsorship. A more detailed catalogue of all events, up to five years ahead, is also available to MEI members.
Rights Holder approach MEI to support their objectives of finding new host destinations, often in regions where they have not been present before, MEI provides enhanced market profile generally, and provides insights to valueadd new commercial potential partners. This Portfolio is one of the vehicles bfor achieving these objectives. Leveraging MEI Summits with pre-agreed managed engagement with new commercial partners is a key milestone in supporting the growth of Rights Holders.
