Well, what a summer that was!
In the UK, festivals were back in force; the Women’s Euros lifted spirits and the profile of womens’ sport, and the Commonwealth Games made Birmingham everyone’s favourite city! How fortunate we are to work in such a wonderful sector.
MEI has bounced back from COVID well too and gone from strength to strength: opening an office (with 2 staff) in Lausanne, home of the IOC, to redouble efforts to build relationships with International rights holders. In addition we have recruited a dedicated executive to focus on working with host cities around the world- helping them find sporting events that fit their bidding ambitions, and supporting their event master planning by introducing them to the best partners. This work all creates an unparalleled platform to support our network of 70 best-in-class suppliers.
This last 12 months have seen an increasing number of non UK based companies joining the network, new geographic collaboration groups growing also, and this helps our members grow their international reach. We all know that a “local presence” matters for delivering contracts; in 2023 we will be looking at how to strengthen the intelligence from more markets, with additional focus on the US.
Please take the time to look at all company capabilities in this Guide and try to identify partnerships. If you are a rights holder, don’t be afraid to ask for advice. We recommend a consultative approach to all our members. No one will sell you something you do not need or something that will not enhance your event.

We help build a pipeline of interested candidate host cities or regions. We can issue a proven initial engagement document which provides: background information plus a summary of obligations which require a short response but with a formal commitment with requirements, subject to final negotiation, can be met. A detailed summary of the rights holder deliverables and the city or regions’ detailed requirements. We act as an ‘interface’ at an ‘arms-length’ to save rights holders time.
We can help rights holders be seen, heard, and to engage with new audiences via bespoke events, speaking opportunities, yearly summits, and market visits.
Sponsorship introductions are assessed on suitability for geographic presence or alignment to rights holder activities and or objectives. Additionally, saving costs, raising revenue and reducing staff workload can be achieved by managed partnerships with event delivery expert companies.

Through our growing relationship with International sports Federations we are increasingly being asked to find host cities for iconic events and these range from regional championships, World Championships or their Annual Congress National Governing Bodies gathering. We have a dedicated team that cultivates relations with potential host cities and their convention centres to help with a bridge to the Federations providing a managed interface service.
MEI can provide insights to new op portunities, match City aspirations to the needs of Federations and help support the development of your strategy optimising the time and costs from undertaking this work. With MEI staff in Lausanne providing a local

Iventis is a comprehensive planning and mapping platform designed specifically to meet the needs of major events, host cities and organisers.
Iventis was established in 2015 by CEO & Founder, Joe Cusdin, following 10 years of working in major events. Joe worked as part of the GIS and Mapping team at the London 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). He went on to lead a Functional Area (FA) responsible for modelling and GIS at the Baku 2015 European Games.

There are challenges, and then there’s the COP26project, the 26th UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. For this high-profile event, where world leaders debated how to tackle the effects of climate change, we delivered 37.500 m2 of temporary buildings within a short timeframe, under constantly changing circumstances and with no margin for error. Needless to say, we loved it.
We provided a wide range of bespoke buildings. We delivered both single and double deck structures to house the media centre, UNFCCC offices, the main entrance and security facilities, as
well as large acoustically optimised meeting rooms. By adding these buildings, we were able to increase the capacity of the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) significantly, allowing it to host this massive event.

The largest motorsports competition in the world has made a return to the tiny Dutch town of Zandvoort. For the second race in decades, arguably the biggest event in the Netherlands this year, we pulled out all the stops, delivering topclass hospitality buildings and branding the existing pit-lane buildings.
Three bespoke, completely different, high-end double-deck hospitality buildings for the
organization and major brands, as well as an extension to the circuit’s pit-lane building.
For one of the hospitality pavilions, we utilized a never-before used combination of tent systems, which were heavily modified to meet the clients wishes. This required a lot of creative thinking, plenty of complex calculations and the creation of lot of new and adapted parts and components.

Van Gogh Alive, London, Manchester, and Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Van Gogh Alive is described as an exhibition like no other, a far cry from art expo’s in their traditional form, and a truly immersive, multisensory experience. Having built the venue for the London and Manchester exhibitions, we can only say that we wholeheartedly agree.
In order to facilitate this multi-sensory experience, which made clever use of video, projection, music and even scent, we delivered a sound and light proof venue that that allowed all these elements to work their magic. Some parts of the building needed to be completely blacked-out, while other parts could be flooded with light. Acoustics needed
to be perfect and the noise that comes with an inner-city location needed to be cancelled out.

Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom
Losberger De Boer has been building hospitality facilities on the holy grounds of Wimbledon since 1994. This year, once again we built the Rosewater and the Lawn Pavilions, the two largest hospitality buildings at the tournament.
The Rosewater and Lawn pavilions offer a combined total of 3500 m2 of premium hospitality space. Due to the extremely tight schedule, both facilities needed to be delivered in one month. As soon as our assembly teams were done, an army of skilled fit-out specialists appeared, to transform the inside into a five-star VIP facility. One of the new features that was introduced this year, was a new, stylish, cantilever terrace, that offered guests a great view over practice courts and the designated ‘chillout area’.

In the last quarter of 2019, our client, CSM Sport & Entertainment (CSM) began planning for the Major League Baseball London Series 2020.
For an event scheduled to host 120,000 spectators over two days, the risks were significant. Ensuring that appropriate and comprehensive cancellation insurance in place was important.
After a review of alternative insurance programme structures, Miller successfully placed cover for CSM eight months before the event was scheduled.
With this being a major event, CSM was closely tracking the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak from late January, and as the months passed, the wider global impact became apparent. A few months on, there was no option but to cancel the event.
