Malindo Air Bags Top Performing Airline 2015 Award Malindo Air was presented the Top Performing Airline 2015 award at the distinctive Travelport Appreciation Night in a glitzy event on 5 December in Kuala Lumpur. As one of the Top Performing Airline Award 2015 recipients, Malindo Air was recognised for the airline’s top performance and exceptional achievements particularly for its sales growth and passenger movement. The award was presented by the Commercial Director of Travelport for Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore, Carole Oh. “We are extremely honoured and proud to receive this award and the recognition from Travelport for our outstanding sales performance,” said Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air. “To be
ranked among the top performing airlines is highly gratifying, as it further strengthens our continuous efforts to provide the best service for our customers.” Chandran added that Malindo Air’s continuous recognition further validates their commitment to providing the best value and unmatched choice for their consumers. In the middle of the year, Malindo Air was recognised as the Airline of the Year (Passenger) at the KLIA Awards 2014. “Tourism Malaysia’s target for tourist arrivals in Malaysia this year is 27.9 million, and at the rate of Malindo Air’s current rapid expansion, we are very pleased to be able to contribute to the nation’s tourism development, and economic growth,” Chandran said.
Colombo Welcomes Malindo Air Malindo Air continues its expansion plans by launching daily services from Kuala Lumpur to Colombo. The daily services to Sri Lanka mark the airline’s ninth country in its international network expansion. Flight OD 185 departs KLIA2 at 10pm and arrives Colombo at 10.55pm. With a time difference of two and a half hours, the flight time between Kuala Lumpur and Colombo will take 3 hours 25 minutes. The narrow-body Boeing 737-800ER aircraft with a seat
capacity of 162 – 12 Business Class and 150 Economy Class seats – was deployed on the new service. “Colombo, as our new destination, marks another profound milestone for all of us at Malindo Air, and the launch of today’s inaugural flight to Colombo highlights a new era in our young airline’s journey,” said Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air. “Whilst it’s true that as we continue to expand, we are taking more people on more aircraft to more places,

New Venture Lands in China
Malindo Air commenced services from Kuala Lumpur to Sanya, a province of Hainan in Southern China, as a continuation of its expansion plans. The twiceweekly services will gradually be increased to four times per week. China marks the airline’s tenth country in its international network expansion. The new scheduled services from Kuala Lumpur to Sanya are via Penang. On Thursdays, flight OD 604 departs KLIA2 at 9.20pm, and arrives Penang at 10.20pm. After a transit time of one hour, the flight departs Penang at 11.10pm and arrives Sanya at 2.05am, the next day. There is no time difference between Malaysia and Sanya, and the flight time is 2 hours and 55 minutes.
The schedule is slightly different on Sunday, where flight OD 604 departs Kuala Lumpur for Penang at 5.50am and arrives Penang at 6.50am. It then departs Penang at 7.40am and arrives in Sanya at 10.35am. The narrowbody Boeing 737NG aircraft with a seat capacity of 180 – 12 Business Class and 168 Economy Class seats – is deployed on these new services. “We are very excited about this new market. Despite China, being recorded as the third largest tourist generating market to Malaysia in 2014 with 1.6 million visitors after Singapore (13.9 million) and Indonesia (2.8 million), with an estimated population of 1.39 billion people in 2014, there is no doubt a huge tourism market available in
China,” said Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air. “According to Tourism Malaysia’s statistic, improved accessibility, promotions offered by airlines and wide coverage of Visit Malaysia Year have been contributed to the increase of tourist arrivals from these markets. We hope to keep that momentum going. Our presence in the China market through effective advertising and promotional campaigns as well as other trade engagements will certainly help hike up tourist arrivals into Malaysia for the coming year. Moreover, our connectivity will spur economic development by encouraging new investment and business developments in both countries due to our seamless connectivity.”

its unique blend of heritage and culture. In comparison to many countries today, Colombo is one of those cities retaining its authenticity and not highly influence by the Western cultures or commercial tourism aspects. However the country is partially impacted by previous European colonists, Muslim traders and Indian neighbours who have contributed in the formation of the country’s very own identity. Being the largest and capital city of Sri Lanka, getting a direct flight to Colombo will be the best gateway if you are eager to explore the country. Colombo is

Here, you can walk down the riverside while taking riverboat rides and paddle crafts while enjoying breath-taking views. It is
also an ideal park for kids whereby there is a huge circular aquarium with exotic sea creatures, which are well maintained and especially beautiful at night with the lighted ambience. one of the street painters who will deliver fascinating portraits of yourself or with family and friends. With the combination of a lively ambience, well preserved nature and ample food options, Diyatha Uyana is the absolute hang out place! Another beautiful park in the city is the Galle Face Green. The charm of this park, however, differs as it overlooks the Indian Ocean hence by the beach side that are surrounded by the star hotels of Colombo. However one the most renowned hotel is the Galle Face hotel that is rich with colonial
atmosphere. The best time to be here is during sunset while sipping on your preferred choice of beverage and overlooking the Indian Ocean or simply making new acquaintances that could turn out to be meaningful ones. The Best Way to a Tourist’s Heart‌ Is through the stomach. As this modified version of saying goes, Sri Lanka certainly will create some magical moments in your palates. While there is rich influence of colonial times, traders and neighbouring countries whereby you can almost get all types on
international cuisines, one may want to definitely seek out for the authentic flavours of the island first. Coconut and black pepper are namely the ma jor ingredients in Sri Lankan cuisine. A main meal is almost similar to Indian cuisine, like rice and curry with side dishes. However, the method and taste certainly differs and is exquisite in its own manner. One of the most popular dishes served almost at every meal will be the popular pol sambol, a scraped coconut spicy condiment. Fresh fish and other seafood are also dishes to savour on while in the island. A traditional Ceylon breakfast will comprise of appam or hoppers, a bowl shaped pancake made from fermented rice flour and egg at the bottom. Whereas pittu (steamed rice flour with coconut) and string hoppers, which are rice flour noodles drizzled into a circle are best complemented with coconut base curries and sambol. Khotthu roti is also popularly known in the island. They are chopped flaky breads cooked on a wide flat base with vegetables and meat. It looks similar to a fried rice dish. Like any good island dessert, watallapan is a traditional treat made from coconut and palm sugar and is almost similar to a flan. Sweet treats are said to be close to the Dutch and Portugese traditions. Throughout the city there will be street stalls or trucks offering an array of local delicacies which are worth trying. Sri Lanka has a lot to offer, even more than many are aware off. While some attractions may be slightly distant from the other, it is definitely worth the visit especially since Colombo is the most strategic central point. Once you have experience it, before you know, you may be already planning on your return. You can plot your Sri Lankan holiday now by visiting Malindo Air’s official website to place your booking to Colombo on their daily flights. MALINDOMAG | 15

Nyepi in Bali The island of the gods is known for its beautiful beaches and worldclass waves, but those are not the only reasons to visit Bali this year. On 9 March, a rare solar eclipse is anticipated to take place and we definitely encourage you to catch it in person. Fly into the island a few days earlier and take a hike up the volcano to see the rice fields and temples of Bali before the main event, which also falls on Hari Raya Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu New Year. On this auspicious day, everyone on the island is required to stay indoors while the island comes to a halt – even the airport is closed – for 24 hours. The night before Nyepi is when you can catch the OgohOgoh parading the streets of Bali. These replicas, normally in the form of mythological beings, come in various shapes and sizes. Perched on a pad built of timber planks and bamboos, the statues are made of light materials like paper, Styrofoam, sponge and bamboo to ease the process of carrying it around the village or the town square.

o Chi Minh, otherwise known as Saigon, is not only famous for lending its name to one of the world’s most acclaimed musicals, but it is also reputed for being the capital of South Vietnam in the past. Originally a part of the kingdom of Cambodia up to the 17th century called Prey Nokor, the city of Ho Chi Minh was then captured by the French in 1859 and became the capital of the French protectorate of Cochinchina. Today, the bustling city is an intriguing blend of Chinese and French colonial architecture; brought to life by its various energetic facets, including historical landmarks and a colourful nightlife.
Must Eat Bánh bèo Bánh bèo is one of Vietnam’s favourite snacks. Sometimes translated as “water fern cake”, the snack is found typically across Vietnam. This snack is made by steaming a mixture of rice flour, tapioca flour, water, salt and some vegetable oil in tiny bowls. The steamed cakes are then eaten straight from their containers with servings of chopped dried shrimp and pork crackling, along with a special dipping fish sauce. Soft yet crunchy, this yummy, doughy dish is a must-eat when in Ho Chi Minh. Bót chiên If you like the fried carrot cake sold by street vendors in Malaysia or Singapore, then you’re bound to enjoy Bót Chiên. Literally meaning “friend dough” in Vietnamese, the dish is also a type of street food found in Vietnam and is often regarded as a relative of the fried carrot cake. Its ingredients include rice flour, tapioca starch, eggs, shredded carrots, daikon and soy sauce. Usually eaten with a dipping sauce that is sweet, salty and sour, Bàt chiên is best complemented with slices of pickled green papaya, daikon and carrots.

Must Shops Bình Tây Also known by the Vietnamese as Chó Bình Tây, the market is one of the biggest markets in Ho Chi Minh. With multiple sections and layers, Bình Tây Market houses hundreds of stalls selling a variety of items like clothes, fabrics, street food and raw ingredients for cooking. The sizeable market even has a park and shrine in the heart of the building. Bình Tây Market’s love for colours extends far beyond its exterior façade, and a walk through its inner expanses would easily testify to this. This is because the market specialises in selling a sizeable variety of local goods, especially in bulk. It’s also a good place to grab a bite, while observing how shopping is done by the locals, especially during peak hours. Location: 57 Tháp Mói, 2, Quàn 6, HóChí Minh, Vietnam.
Bén Thành Market Bén Thành Market is a shopping destination that is particularly popular amongst the locals. One look at the market’s offerings is enough to tell you why, as the establishment carries everything from clothes to kitchen appliances to groceries—not forgetting souvenirs. Initially named Les Hailes Centrales, Bén Thành Market was built in 1870 by the French before it was renamed. It is also known as the oldest surviving market, as well as becoming a wellknown symbol of Ho Chi Minh City, offering a wide selection of items on sale such as clothes, dry food, authentic Vietnamese food and many more. Similar to Bình Tây, the market is often crowded, with numerous people visiting Bén Thành Market to get bargain items. The shops are often open from late afternoon to late night, with several restaurants operating as well. 22 | MALINDOMAG

Must Sees Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica Officially known as Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the cathedral is the testament of French colonial times. Constructed between 1863 and 1880 by the French, the breathtaking edifice stands at a height of 60m and boasts two bell towers that are topped with spires of iron, along with stained glass windows that remain from the time of its creation. It was rumoured that the Virgin Mary situated in front of the cathedral shed tears in 2005, garnering thousands of believers who visited the cathedral to witness the miraculous act. Candles are lit in front of the holy statue by the faithful while offering prayers. Of course, it comes to no surprise that the Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica is a hotspot
for tourists due to its timeless architectural designs, tranquil
ambience and the mystical stories surrounding the place.
Location: No. 1 Cong truong Cong xa Paris St., right at the intersection of Pham Ngoc Thach St, Le Duan St and Cong xa Paris St. Saigon Opera House A glance of the Saigon Opera House will take you on a quick trip to France. Also known as the Municipal Theatre, it is merely a few blocks away from the Notre-Dame Cathedral. The stunning building was constructed in 1898 by Eugene Ferret and the design was inspired by the “flamboyant” style of the French Third Republic and serves as evidence of the impact that French colonisation has had on Vietnam. Despite being restored for a performing arts space in 1975, it still retains many of its original traits, including its chandeliers and decorative stone statues. Location: 7 Lam Son Square, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Giác Lâm Pagoda It is easy to recognise the Giác Lâm Pagoda with its iconic seven-storey hexagonal stupa. This Buddhist place of worship is said to be one of the oldest in Ho Chi Minh, dating back to the 18th century. Built by Lý Thúy Long, a native of Minh Húóng, the name of the temple means ‘Feel the Woods Temple’ and it has a magnificent, looming Bodhi tree, which was a gift from a Sri Lankan monk in 1953. Its other highlights include 118 statues made of cement, wood and bronze that epitomise the finesse of 18th century Vietnamese sculpting. The Pagoda also has a bronze bell, that when rung, is believed to answer prayers of the believers. Because of this, the Giác Lâm Pagoda is seen as a minor pilgrimage for the Vietnamese. It is one of the most popular museums in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam, with its vast array of photographs, weapons of war and wartime artefacts. The ground floor of the museum is devoted to a collection of posters and photographs showing support for the antiwar movement
internationally. It is also known for its highly detailed, realistic displays, including replicas of prisoners in holding cells and many exhibits relating to the first Indochina War involving the French colonialists. Suói Tiên Theme Park Suói Tiên Theme Park is particularly famous for its unique brand of architecture, which is derived from Buddhism and local Vietnamese legends. Hailed as one of the biggest cultural theme park of Ho Chi Minh City, it is filled with an array of attractions for children and adults alike, including a roller coaster and a 4D theatre. Many of these attractions are waterbased, as the park’s name actually means ‘Fairy Stream’, which was derived from a folklore that tells the story of seven sacred girls who passed away and became fairies in the land the amusement park was built on. The theme park also holds cultural festivals periodically within the site, providing visitors a glimpse into the culture, history and traditions of Vietnam. She went to the extend to ensure that her colleague understood the situation. She checked us in and offered Tan to sit in the front row in the cabin so that the cabin crews can observe better. She apologised to me and my the other business partner that she was unable to arrange for three of us to sit together due to earlier reservation of other passengers. Unfortunately, we did not notice her name, but she did speak multiple languages including Mandarin and Cantonese. I trust that you will pass on this recognition to the specific ground staff member. She is a true reflection of the high levels of standard that we have come to expect of Malindo Air.” – Vincent Ngai, Malaysia

“I would like to give sincere compliments to your flight OD1237 from Kota Bharu to Subang on 9 August 2015, especially to Kapten Zaid for being such a great host and did a great job when landing. Although this is not my first flight with Malindo Air, I need to praise that particular flight. There is no hesitation for me to continue choosing Malindo Air in the near future with such good services. Thank you.” – Nur Aidil Marina, Malaysia
“ “
In contrast to my experience with another airline where I fell ill and vomitted in the flight – I inquired for assistance on where I should dispose my vomit bag, but to my dismay the cabin crew was not concerned for my health. Their service was utterly disappointing.
“
So, two thumbs up to the cabin crew of Malindo Air for your hospitality and care shown throughout the trip. Well done!” – Kian Ming, Malaysia
“Dear Mr. Chandran, First of all, congratulations on the opening of your Executive Lounge at KLIA2. It has certainly given you the competitive advantage over other airlines and will definitely attract more flyers to choose Malindo Air over the others. I have been a frequent traveller with Malindo Air on the Kuala Lumpur – Kochi route and now there’re more reasons for me to select your airline for a satisfying journey. I was made to understand that this Lounge was just launched recently and I believe your team members are trying to make the experience much better with improvements due here and there. That aside, they’ve surely done a great job.
“
Despite the shortcomings, your Executive Lounge staffs, Nur Qistina and Taufik have made my visit so memorable. Kudos to them, too. Keep up the good work and go on to command the skies.” – Capt. Shivan Nair, Labuan, Malaysia.
“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list. I have found great value in the Malindo Air’s Business Class seats. Baggage allowance, priority check-in/boarding, seat choice, lounge, drinks, food, spacious seat, all in one price. It was an amazing experience and I’m looking forward to flying to more destinations with you. Thank you for the excellent service, Malindo Air.” – Nicholas, Malaysia
“Thank you to all our passengers for the generous compliments and feedback! If you would like to share your feedback with us, kindly email it to info@malindoair.com. Once again, thank you for your continuous support towards Malindo Air.” 26 / MALINDOMAG

One of my business partners, Tan, was having heart complication during our Bangkok trip, so I went to the counter trying to check-in on his behalf. After knowing about his condition, your ground staff immediately requested for a wheelchair to mobilize him from the restaurant where he was resting.
“My collegues and I had a good experience on board the flight from Penang to Melaka last Saturday morning. My two collegues were feeling nauseous and I offered an oitment to apply. The stewardess on duty immediately took notice of the need and offered them water.

Modern
Abode in the Old City WEIL Hotel adds a touch of mod to the old charm of Ipoh
o
f late, numerous boutique hotels have sprouted around Ipoh, claiming to bring visitors a fresh air of accommodation establishments that highlight the modern yet quirky concept that has taken over Ipoh’s local café scene, while maintaining the old grace of the once glorious tin mining city. Since moving out of the city in search of a career in Kuala Lumpur, I haven’t been home in a while to bask in my hometown’s latest offerings. So I quickly snapped at the chance to experience one of the newest hotels in town, WEIL Hotel. WEIL made its entry into the market in December 2015 when it opened its doors to the public. On the outside, the orange brick rustic

exteriors lend an interestingly contrasting accent to the rest of the architecture. Being a bespoke contemporary urban retreat, the hotel is smack-dab in the centre of Ipoh’s town area, with easy access to commercial areas and landmarks. It’s also a relatively large hotel for a city the size of Ipoh – but the façade only looks small by virtue of the building being conveniently attached via a passage way to the shopping complex next door. Arriving at the grand lobby, I was greeted eagerly by front office staff who proceeded to hand me a cool hand towel (a warm one wouldn’t have made the cut in this scorching weather) that already made me feel welcomed and assured that I was in good hands
for the stay. It didn’t take long before I was checked-in and whisked-off to my Deluxe room. The first impression was, “Wow this is something” in all positive terms, because for an Ipoh girl like myself, this is a by all means a new benchmark for the quaint city that went less economically significant about half a century ago due to diminishing tin ore, which was then its main economy. Swanky, opulent, and modern chic doesn’t seem to quite capture the interiors in entirety. The room was atmospherically contemporary with clever wooden furnishings and white and black fittings to match. The linens were soft and pillows plush. The bathroom was particularly spacious, with wooden

walls, opaque glass, clever light fittings and white tiles that come together beautifully. The bathtub and rain shower while great were amplified with a selection of quality Italian imported bath products. Self-proclaimed couch potatoes such as I would find great joy in the TV’s in-built system, which, is by no means ordinary. The channel selections are varied, with options to purchase more blockbuster packages with the press of a few buttons. Information about the hotel’s services and facilities are up on the easily navigable TV screen. You’re spoilt for dining choices as altogether there are four restaurants within the vicinity of the hotel, and yet, more restaurants are available in the mall next door if you’re looking for a more commercialised taste. Breakfast is served at Tiffin, the all-day dining restaurant at WEIL, which serves a wide selection of local and international flavours in a buffet setting. The breakfast spread served more than just the ordinary
American breakfast and local delights menu, as what caught my eye were Ipoh’s signature dishes such as the taufufah (soybean curd drink) and Ipoh’s famous white coffee. Take a cup or two before you move on to the crowd favourite, the waffle and pancake station with your own choice of spread.
As the sun sets over the limestone hills, The Deck attracts a younger set of twentysomething revellers. The bar located on the rooftop gives off an upscale atmosphere as a flow of cocktails are served from table to table. If you’re looking for something more subdued and chilled out, check out the rooftop garden lounge, The Lawn and a viewing deck next to the infinity pool overlooks the Ipoh’s low-rise cityscape against a backdrop of ma jestic-looking hills. Just a handy tip on the parking lot – they are located on levels three to five and hence if you’re driving there, be advised to follow the signage to the carpark entrance which is at level four. WEIL Hotel definitely shines new light on Ipoh which, before this, was cognisant of a charming heritageinfused bygone city. It’s good news that the Ipoh airport is beginning to see crowds again thanks to new inbound flights and attractive café and dining concepts. MALINDOMAG | 31

complemented by the sleek looking coffee masters in their black aprons. I was greeted by Ram over the pour over counter. He was the coffee master who served me for the day. Before anything else, Ram explained to me the coffee that he will be serving. The Vietnam Da Lat coffee is the first-ever Starbucks Reserve Coffee™ from this unique origin. Anchored by the city of Da Lat, the serene environment of the Lam Dong Province offers an escape from the heat and an ideal terroir for high-quality Arabica beans. The fertile volcanic soil, constant cool temperatures and seemingly ever-present mist culminate in a coffee every bit as distinctive as the land from which it came. I was also told that the Vietnam Da Lat coffee has medium body and is slightly high in acidity. After feeding me the interesting coffee facts, it was time to serve me the real thing. Ram started by pouring hot water into the filter
Starbucks Reserve™ S-226B, 2nd Floor, The Gardens Mall, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur
to wash it and to get the bottom all warmed up. For my Grande sized cuppa, he used 40g of freshly grinded coffee beans and poured hot water boiled up to 98 degree Celsius bit by bit, covering the surface of the coffee powder with each pour. This is called the blooming process. Unlike the usual coffee making method, the pour over method allows the flavours to be extracted from the coffee powder instead of being forced out of it. The process takes a tad bit more time compared to machine-made coffee, but the wait is worth it as you’re entertained by the beautiful aroma of the coffee that fills the air. As the final drops of coffee fills the cup, Ram handed me the cuppa and told me to cover 60% of the cup when taking in the aroma. This plays a part in awakening my senses as I took my first slurp of the steaming hot coffee. The full flavour of the coffee filled my mouth complemented the rich
aroma, leaving a sourish aftertaste – showcasing its medium body and high acidity characteristics. Being a coffee drinker, I didn’t mind my coffee as it is, but for those of you who like it sweet, the coffee masters at Starbucks Reserve™ are ready to customise your drink for you – sugar, milk and everything nice – although it is advisable for the first slurp to be taken without any sweetener. For me, I’d rather complement my cuppa with the sweetness from a slice of cake, neutralising the taste. Other blends available at Starbucks Reserve™ are the Tanzania Modul, the Peru Bagua Grande and the Bali Vintage Klasik, which is from a place closer to home. The choices of blends available in store depend on the availability of the beans as they are carefully selected to ensure the high quality of coffee served at the store. Prices of a cuppa vary depending on the beans. The Vietnam Da Lat that I had is priced from RM17.80 for pour over.

Brand New January Capricorn
(December 22 - January 19) You’re all about climbing to the highest altitudes, but lately you’ve gotten a bit more cautious. As planets cruise through Capricorn, you’re feeling the urge again, so raise the bar on travel plans to include something extreme. Think: ziplining in a rainforest, hiking way off grid with a Sherpa, or taking that snowboarding lesson. Source: Tripbase ®
Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Scorpio
Business and pleasure can mix, despite what others say, so let the 4 January eclipse be the reason you do a deal over dinner in one of the must-try restaurants. Ditch a session of the conference to explore the city’s hipster ‘hoods... alone. Belated holiday gifts – the more abstract, the better – are going to end up in your suitcase, so leave some room.
Your high energy conversational style needs an outlet other than your travel companions, so yak instead to an appreciative audience of locals. Let the chatter inform your itinerary and keep up your image of a Facebook friend in every port. The people you meet while traveling this month could become lifelong pals.
(October 23 - November 21) The 4 January eclipse revs your engine, specifically the one in your car. You’ll be perfectly happy driving fifty miles out of town, if the destination feeds your inner culture vulture. Is your favourite author doing a book signing nearby? That band you adore playing a show? Enjoy that snazzy hotel room with your closest friends.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
Since your sign loves a challenge, so consider that five-day yoga and raw juice retreat. In the days leading up to January 20th (when your official birth month begins) you’ll be in a reflective headspace. Vacations that help you “let go” in a quiet, meditative way, set you up for the fast pace that begins on the 20th.
“Hello social butterfly” calleth the Capricorn sun. You want nothing more than to immerse yourself in the centre of the action (at least till the 20th). There’s a tour out there with your name on it, maybe a cruise ship too. Save the all-ages adventures, and make this trip an adultsonly experience.
That short leash you’ve been keeping yourself on has officially snapped. Time to taste freedom again, flavoured with the most exotic spices possible. Check your paperwork, STAT. Spontaneity looks good on you this month, especially in a warm weather country where English is not the native language.
Of course you’d love to escape the winter, yadda, yadda, but it’s also an excuse to get some quality face-time with that certain someone. A destination with a spotty Wi-Fi connection would be ideal. You’ll finally get clear signals about this relationship’s future potential.
You earned a permission slip to be selfish thanks to the Full Moon in Cancer on 19 January. Three is definitely a crowd, so pick one, free spirited companion for this journey. Potential for a vacation romance? Hotter than the current temps in Buenos Aires.
There are cities where it’s always “ageappropriate” to dance till the sun rises whether you’re 19 or 90. That is exactly where you need to head, as planets tour your sector of passion, glamour, and romance. Suck it up and pay the baggage fee; you’ll need more than a carry-on for those party clothes. Give yourself an extra vacation day to recover when you get home.
Planets whet your appetite for luxury. The only ice you want to think about is the kind on display at Bulgari, Harry Winston, and Tiffany’s. Delay gratification until the 20th, and save up for those added indulgences. Like: breakfast wheeled to you on a silver tray, the 90-minute massage, and the hotel room with the beachfront balcony.
Do not over stimulate. You’ve never been good at “doing nothing” but try stroll, sleep, sip and don’t load your bag with books and projects. You get to pick and choose the relatives who will be your entourage, so pick a beachy, slow destination where everyone will get some R and R.

IN-FLIGHT HIGH FLYER
The Allure of Genuine Service Senior Flight Attendant Chiu Sze Min tells on her journey in the sky. We’ve all heard about the drama and excitement that surround a flight attendant’s life. And some of us might have fantasised about seeing new cities, having exciting adventures and living it up high in the sky. But little do we know, it takes a lot of hard work, as well as a steadfast and positive personality to keep up with the job. Chiu Sze Min, an experienced happy go lucky Senior Flight Attendant, shares the thrills and spills of the job. How long have you been a flight attendant? I was with Malaysia Airlines for five years before I joined Malindo Air. So in total, I’ve been in the airline industry for about eight years. For some, it may be a long time, but for me, it’s just a beginning. What do you love most about your job? I’m lucky to be part of a rapidly growing airline, to be able to fly to many exotic destinations that I have never been to before. On top of that, we get to enjoy staff discounts when flying with Malindo Air, on top of the many other perks. Having said that, the discount is only for airline staff, so if you want one then join us or marry one of us. On top of the job perks, it’s meeting different people that I love best. I have met so many fascinating people including passengers. I’ve made good friends during training and worked with incredible crews. Their experiences and perspectives in life have been a continuous inspiration for me. What do you think makes a good flight attendant? 48 | MALINDOMAG
Well, generally, airlines look for people who are polished, independent and flexible. These are probably the must-have qualities. But being a good flight attendant has different criteria. Let me explain. The core of this job is how passionate and genuine you are in serving people. Apart from the training a company provides the rest has to come from you. Be genuine. People can always tell whether your service is sincere or not. It’s just like a smile; you can’t fake a real smile. What do you like most about Malindo Air? In an airline, because there is a large number of staff especially flight attendants, we become “just another staff member”. But not at Malindo Air. We are a very big family. Every department puts in their best efforts to make Malindo Air a success. We all have each other’s back, especially when someone cannot perform their duty because of an illness, vacation, etc. And I like that dependability, a lot. Which is your favourite destination in Malindo? Right now, my favourite destination is definitely our new route, Perth. I’m ecstatic I got to visit and explore the largest city in Western Australia. It’s so clean and green with pop-up shops and cinemas. And there are even more exciting routes to come and I can’t wait to see where we’ll be heading to next! What is the hardest thing about being a flight attendant? The moment you sign your contract is when you can kiss
ma jor events and celebrations in your life goodbye. I’m not kidding. School holidays and festive seasons are the busiest time for commercial airlines so there is no excuse for us to take that time off. You also need to take good care of yourself so that you’re not affected badly by an irregular schedule. While our passengers are sound asleep, we have to be on our toes to ensure the flight is going as smooth as possible. So at the end of the flight if you see our crew members with hair a little out of place or make up a little smudged, please excuse us. Though we try to be as immaculate as possible, we are all human after all. But honestly I love my job and Malindo Air, and there’s no other place I’d rather be.
