This auspicious month marks the 4th year anniversary for Malindo Air. It has indeed been an exciting and productive period since our inception as we continue to rapidly expand our network and fleet size in line with our aspiration to be the leading, if not the preferred choice of carrier, particularly within our home region. Looking back, we started with only two aircraft, and today I am pleased to note that we are operating over 800 flights weekly, with 29 Boeings 737NG and 18 ATR72-600, to countries across the continents of Asia, Middle East and Australia. Our persistent initiatives to fulfill our customers’ needs have also been recognised when we bagged the CAPA’s 2016 Asia Pacific Regional Airline of the Year, besides being the Airline of the Year (Passenger) at the KLIA Awards 2014 and Top Performing Airline 2015 by Travelport. The accomplishments of Malindo Air would have not been possible without the diligent devotion of the workforce who have placed their expertise to steer the company to greater heights. For that, I must sincerely express my gratitude for their sheer hard work and commitment towards the company. Not to forget, is the support of our local and international industry partners, particularly the Ministries of Transport, government agencies namely the Department of Civil Aviation and MAVCOM, tourism bodies, airport authorities and finally our customers for entrusting

us while we continuously attempt to create the most memorable journey for you. As we reflect on previous milestones, we are simultaneously proud to introduce two new destinations that further lifts the celebration spirits. The inaugural flight to Jeddah took off most recently, creating another affordable option for our Muslim customers to duly perform their pilgrimage. Discover the unexpected attraction at this renowned holy city when you flip to our Voyage section. The other route is to Guangzhou, China which will be launched on 15 March. The first term national school holidays will be approaching very soon, hence the source of inspiration for the cover story this issue. Get acquainted with attractions within Malindo Air’s network of destinations to guide you through your next holiday plans with your offsprings! This month also calls for another point of celebration while we honour women around the world in conjunction with International Women’s Day on 8 March. My hatsoff to my fellow female colleagues for your filial dedication and mostly for striking up the balance between managing a home and career concurrently. Till next month, have a pleasant journey and happy reading!

chool holidays are the most popular time of the year to go on family vacation or to just take a short break to recharge oneself. Holiday seasons like this need some early planning in order to grab the best travel deals out there. Your best bet is to start organising things way ahead and book in advance for good deals on flights and hotels before they are all snatched up. First thing first, decide on a destination where everyone loves to visit. Holidays are fun and exciting times be it educational or spending quality time together as a family. That is why a great masterplan goes a long way to make sure each individual in the family has a good time. It is actually quite significant that children need the holidays to re-energise and refresh themselves, preparing them for the next term. Vacations are not just for fun but also an opportunity to bond with each other and get away from the everyday hectic schedule.

COVER STORY

Depending on the budget, holidays do not need to be an expensive affair. Parents can organise a great vacation by keeping it simple, affordable and fun. The most important thing is to spend time with everyone and do activities together. It can be a short trip within the country or exploring a whole new country. Classroom learning is categorically important but travel always teaches more than what children learn within four walls. As times are changing, more parents are taking their school going kids for educational tours whereby they engage in learning opportunities outside the bounds of the traditional classroom. Many parents agree that travel, with its exposure to myriad new cultures, playmates, experiences and languages, can provide a valuable learning tool for children of all ages.

Chimelong Safari Park If you are travelling with kids, you will not regret taking a day trip at the Chimelong Safari Park, which spans about 320 acres and is currently ranked as the largest animal safari theme park in China. Kids and adults will enjoy the plethora of attractions within the park, such as pandas, tigers and other animals, as well as the animal circus, which features a 1.5hour long entertainment of comedic, musical and acrobatic acts involving incredibly talented animals. For those who are seeking something beyond a zoo experience, there is also an amusement park and a Chimelong Waterpark.

Pearl River Cruise Pearl River’s night cruise is particularly special because the whole city springs to life in a myriad of glistening lights, and the experience is simply magical. You will want to whip out your cameras for this two hour ride as you slowly cruise down the river, passing sights such as the Zhuhai Square, the Guangzhou Hotel and Shamian Island buildings - basically all of Guangzhou’s scenic sights wrapped up in one peaceful boat ride.

Chen Clan Ancestral HallFolk Craft Museum Lovers of architecture, culture and history will revel in the beauty of this museum. There is plenty of arts and crafts to explore. The museum itself is located in the Chen Clan Academy, which was once a grand imperial examination hall back in 1894 during the Qing Dynasty. The rich architecture and craftsmanship make for great photographs too. How fluent is your Mandarin? The modern and chic outlet embraces the cafe culture plus kopitiam theme, whereby the menu has a variety of hot and cold drinks, hot meals to soups, appetisers and delicious desserts. friendly as they took the orders and presented the meals. Most of the menu selections are Western with some Asian cuisines for patrons who crave local delicacy. Their signature western meal is squid ink pasta and lamb shank. The pasta itself was well seasoned and laden with mussels, prawns and squids. Sweet cherry tomatoes are added for more flavour. Meanwhile the lamb shank is braised for three hours and done to perfection. These are some of the must try dishes at the cafĂŠ. For Asian selection, there are a few good meals to select. Not to be missed is the white rice served with a bowl of sauteed vegetables and a whole fried siakap (seabass) fish with homemade crispy chili paste. The well cooked fish and chili paste were spicy, sweet and crispy with the presence of aromatic dried shrimp and fried onion. It is a wholesome

meal for families or a group of two to three people to share. For chicken lovers, the chicken balado which is fried till crispy and goes well with either a spicy sauce or with lemon butter sauce. For those who are more health conscious can opt for the grilled chicken that has been marinated with spices and comes with lemon butter sauce for dips. Lastly, for the best part of the meal is their decadent desserts. The favourite among the patrons is their house specialities like Nutella Cheese cake, Berry Pavlova and Cheese Brownie. The Nutella Cheese cake was heavenly with nutella spread complemented by a cheese base that sits on top of a crunchy chocolate base. Meanwhile the Berry Pavlova was soft and it sure to satisfy any sweet lovers. If you are looking for a hearty meal and a good selection of

desserts, then One Serambi CafĂŠ is a place to head to.

SK-II’s NEW UV: Atmosphere When infrared light is absorbed by the skin, it is felt as heat, unlike UV which the skin responds to by turning darker. Our skin is more exposed to infrared light, which makes up to 54% of sunlight compared to UV, which is less than 7%. In addition to the different types of radiation from sunlight, SK-II found that pollution produced by exhausts from cars, buses and trucks, and burning of fuel or wood can also damage the skin. Other sources of pollutants are seasonal phenomenon like yellow dust that affects Korea in the spring and periodical phenomenon like haze that affects Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore and Malaysia can cause skin irritation, roughness and even impact on skin aging. These discoveries led to the introduction of SK-II’s NEW UV: Atmosphere into its award-winning whitening series - a holistic UV range including the new Atmosphere Airy Light UV Emulsion SPF30/PA. The Atmosphere Airy Light Emulsion SPF 30 has an airy light texture because of its unique oil and thickener ratio. PASSION

Cakespecialist Artistry

A

fter 12 years of working in the shipping industry, Jaymee Chan, 38, decided to call it quits and pursue her passion in baking. It all started after she became a mother and started cooking for the family that lead to specialising in homemade meals for children.

She started a facebook page group called Mummies @ Home Homemade Meals for Children to encourage more mothers to share their experience and passion in preparing healthy home cooked food. After her daughter started preschool, she had more time for

herself. So, she decided to extend her cooking skills to baking and enrolled herself to The Academy Of Pastry Arts Malaysia for parttime pastry classes and fell in love with all the yummillicious, fine French pastries. She knew then, this is her calling and graduated with a Diploma in Patisserie. It did not stop there, she loved the art of baking that she continued to develop other skills by learning Wilton’s method in cake decorating plus the Intensive Masterclass in cake decoration from International Centre of Cake Artistry. During her journey of acquiring knowledge and skills, she had the privilege to meet many talented chefs, master bakers and master sculptors who inspired her to start her own business. She received her very first corporate order, from a MNC company which required her to set up a company in order to become their approved vendor. So that is how Jaymee Patisserie was founded. Now she has her hands full with many corporate and individual orders. Jaymee is quite selective in her choice of ingredients that she uses for baking. She only uses fresh and healthy ingredients like organic unbleached flour, organic raw sugar, free range eggs, couverture Callebaut/Valrhona chocolate (non-vegetable oil based) and seasonal fresh fruits for her baking and she does not compromise on that. She avoids artificial flavourings at all cost, and she dislikes making cakes with artificial colourings. Her best-sellers are her premium naked cakes topped with lots of fresh seasonal berries and fruits, premium lemon meringue tarts, petite lemon tartlets, vanilla bean cookies and entremet. All her products are handmade and custom made to order ensuring the highest quality. Check out her cakes and pastries at Facebook / Instagram : Jaymee Patisserie.

I want to appraise the customer service staff named Shahrizan. She did a good job... I called up this evening to make the changes of my flight. Suddenly the line cut off, and our conversation into half way... I am trying to call up the center again.. when I rang up, there is an incoming call from Shahrizan to continue our conversation and settle my changes within few minutes. Frankly speaking, I have been dealing so much airline, this does not happen. Shahrizan, keep it up.. I love your lovely help...

It was a wet Terengganu which greeted me upon landing with Malindo Air from SZB. Accidently left the IC on board which was duly returned by their ground staff. Thank you, Malindo Air! Saved me from a hefty fine by the NRD for losing my IC again.

Thumbs up on Nu Sentral Counter female staff, in Spec, short hair. Working on 1 Nov, 9:30pm. She demonstrates excellent patience and professionalism in handling fussy and complaining customer, with her calm personality. Despite my serious dissatisfaction and digust on Malindo’s countless retime flight, this Nu Sentral lady impresses me with the way she handles complaints. Keep it up lady!

Malindo Air customer service staff name Shah (ID no. MO 5096) is very friendly and professional in handling my call. Shah is very attentive and promptly answered my queries without any hesitation. Though Shah is only 3 months working in Malindo Air and Shah has handled my calls professionally as a Customer Service Officer. Shah deserved THUMBS UP! Good Job Shah.
