Welcome to this special men’s edition of Mam'selle! A mini magazine for Sindy doll lovers, fans and collectors.

We decided it was time to dedicate some space to Paul, Sindy’s 1960s boyfriend. So inside this special issue you will find: a history of the main man himself and his stylish fashions; a Father’s Day photo album (pg. 22); a men’s shopping special (pg. 48); and a special Paul themed styling session with Veronique, our fashion columnist.

Let’s meet Paul...

‘Meet Paul, Sindy’s boyfriend!’

“Guess what? Sindy got a boyfriend. They met at a dance and Sindy was immediately attracted to his pleasant, slightly shy personality. She noticed what a well-dressed young man he is (and you know how important clothes are to her!). Paul is slightly taller than Sindy and he’s as up-to-date as next year’s motor show. His arms and bendy legs move freely. Paul’s got a complete wardrobe of casual and smart, dressy clothes.”

This was how we were introduced to him nearly 60 years ago in the 1965 brochure, along with six new outfits and three separates for the main man in Sindy’s life.

Paul was launched in 1965 with painted-on hair. The second issue, ‘Hairy Paul’ in 1967, had rooted brown hair. He looked suspiciously like Paul McCartney from the 1960s rock band ‘The Beatles’ with his distinctive ‘moptop’ haircut. It’s widely believed Paul was modelled on the English musician, as it was the peak of Paul McCartney, one

Seaside A continental-type slash-necked jacket and matching shorts are ideal for beach days. Comes with sunglasses, towel, water-skis and a camera.

Motorway Man Motoring around town (in Sindy’s car!), or country walks - this ensemble teams well with Sindy’s Country Walk. Comes with a flask and mug too.

London Look When Paul takes Sindy to a show, he’s elegant in this mod-cut blue wool suit. Teamed with a blue linen shirt, tie, handkerchief and Chelsea boots.

And so to Bed After all that partying Paul needs to sleep. He doesn’t let his style slip, with a striped PJ set and robe. Complete with a bag of grooming essentials.

Time Off Paul wears his brown suedette jacket, slim-cut twills, checked poplin shirt and matching duffle for casual coffee bar dates.

Like Sindy, the doll you love to dress, Paul likes a good time. Paul is keen on music and dancing - so he often takes Sindy to jazz clubs and dances. Their busy days and nights out mean that Paul too needs his clothes to be designed for his free-wheeling lifestyle. Just like Sindy’s extensive fashion wardrobe.

The 1965 separates...

Tee-shirt Paul gets his own monogrammed tee with this relaxed wide-necked white cotton knit style. Ideal for holidays and weekends.

Motorway man?

Not quite! As it’s Sindy who gets the wheels.

But, Paul sure looks good in this cherry red MGB Roadster. In the early sixties Sports cars were extremely popular, so it makes sense that Sindy and Paul would have one, as the coolest couple about town. Launched in 1965, this coupé is pretty hard to find now (especially with a nonwarped windscreen).

Tennis Party A crisp white Airtex top with a smart Fred Perry logo was matched with shorts, collarless jacket and white sneakers.

Ship Ahoy Sunshine yellow sailing gear to clearly match Sindy’s ‘Sail Away’, teamed with a sailor chic stripe tee and binoculars.

Boy next door...

Much like another infamous man (a.k.a. Ken), Paul was marketed as Sindy’s boyfriend and immediately became part of The Sindy Set. Could this have been his undoing? He lasted a mere three years. By 1968 there were no more male fashions, or Paul, until his return 21 years later in 1986!

L’Enfant is an infamous photographic poster by Spencer Rowell sold by Athena in 1987.

L’Enfant (the child) or ‘Man and Baby’, as it is often called, was conceived by Paul Rodriguez, the artistic director of the Athena poster chain store. The story goes that the photograph was shot on a shoestring budget and took 20 minutes. It went on to sell five million copies.

Hoping to replicate the success, the Third Planet Poster Company commissioned photographer Simon Plant to create a new version in the 1990s. It was deemed a successful reproduction, selling over two million copies on four continents.

First Christmas

Doris, Buddy and little Peggy-Sue are enjoying their first Christmas as a family.

They’re staying with Dana, Doris’s sister, in her Highland Cottage.

Buddy is such a proud daddy.

I love that he is capturing it all on his camcorder.

Staying at Dana’s is an annual tradition. Their best friends Elvis and Lottie always stay too. This year Elvis surprised Lottie with a new grand piano.
