Let’s start with the suit

Worn together with the matching shell top makes for a striking workday look. The white loafers give it a fresh feel At the weekend the suit can be given a more casual feel with a logo print tee and some stylish trainers.

SUIT

SUITS YOU MISS

A skirt for the office can be kept sleek and simple with a plain top - just pick out a colour from the skirt pattern. But for Saturdays and Sundays, a logo tee topped with a denim shirt gives it a dressed-down vibe.

SKIRT

THE 24-7 SKIRT

Cropped trousers or Capris can work in a professional environment Just mix with classic separates and accessories. Come the weekend you can add those summery blouses, sandals and basket bag and give them a retro 1950s feel.

A ‘CROP’ AHEAD!

Get extra wear out of your suit blazer by teaming with other trousers or skirts in your wardrobe. Wearing one single colour underneath is a great way to make the jacket the statement For casual weekends you can’t beat teaming it with your fave jeans and tee combo.

DOUBLE THE STYLE

BLAZER

A shell top is a flattering shape for more conservative working environments - as well as being super stylish It is also ideal with the skirt, or tucked into highwaist shorts for lazy days after a busy week

SHELLTOP

TOP TIER STYLE

A great way to style patterned trousers is to pick out a colour from the print to pull the look together This applies for weekends also - adding in some crisp white can give it a fresh, updated feel

CYCLE

Believe it or not, Sindy didn’t get her first bicycle until the 90s Sindy and her Fun Bike arrived in 1993 with moving wheels and pedals Mountain Bike Sindy in 1995 was unique, in that only Sindy could make the pedals move - this was supported by a TV advert too

sindy sindy makes: makes:

Materials:

String, twine or paper twine

Size 2.75mm (12 UK) knitting needles

Darning needle

Scraps of leather or ribbon for handles

Glue gun or needle and thread to attach straps

SPRING KNIT TOTE BAG

Starting at the top of the bag and finishing at the base. Use 2.75mm needles and your chosen material to cast on 26 stitches, leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing up the bag

Row 1: (right side) Knit

Row 2: Purl

Glue or stitch on handles made from leather, plaited string or ribbon. 01 02 03 04

Repeat first two rows another 5 times, so you have a total of 12 rows stocking stitch.

Row 13: K2, (K2tog, K1) 8 times (18 stitches) Knit 3 more rows and cast off.

To make up: Turn the knitting inside out and join the side seams. With the seam at the centre back, sew up the bottom seam to make the bag shape. Turn the bag the right way out

TIPS:

Why not embellish the bag? Add a small flower motif or small pin, tie a scarf on the handle, sew on mini buckles or buttons to the straps. You could also line the bag with fabric scraps for a pretty contrasting interior Using thicker string will make the bag bigger.

Thinking of booking a cruise? Then follow our tips to sailing the seas in style. First up, what to wear...

Daytime: Casual comfy and layered cover-up style clothing for day trips and walking around the port or ship Comfy footwear made for walking and a foldable shopping bag for your day essentials

Deck Days: Swimwear and cover-ups are needed for around the pool and will protect you from those deceptively sunny breezy days, Non-slip poolside slides or sandals are also a good idea

Nighttime: Evening clothes like dresses trousers and statement tops are ideal for dinners theatre shows and cocktails Accessories and small bags will help vary your looks

Special Evenings: Check the dress code, but most cruises have a formal, celebration, or gala night You will need smarter attire - maybe even a ballgown!

S

P E C I A L

Cruise Control: Must-have items that will make you feel like a cruising pro

Alarm clock - Cabins generally don t have them and it will mean you won t oversleep or be late for excursions

Earplugs - Light sleeper or cabin near the engine anchor or under the pool deck? They will help limit noise

Hanging organisers - Cabins often don t have a lot of wardrobe space - so use these for underwear, swimwear, accessories and shoes

Hanging wash bag - Ideal for the back of the bathroom door - as it means you can store toiletries vertically, rather than cluttering up the often small bathroom

Highlighter pens - Use them to mark up the daily cruise guide/schedule - so you don't miss timings of activities, movies and events Most cruise ships have apps, but if you prefer the paper version, take a pencil case

Lanyard - For keeping your cruise card handy and safe

Luggage tag - A clear luggage label is needed for your cabin details on embarkment day

Magnetic hooks - Most cruise cabin walls are magnetic, so pack some hooks to hang clothes, robes and sun hats to maximise your storage space

Magnets - Ideal for attaching tickets, the daily planner, and notes to cabin walls, or on the door Lots of guests decorate their door with nautical magnets This also helps you identify your room in a sea of matching doors

Nightlight - Rooms can be very dark, especially interior rooms without windows A light helps if you need to get up in the middle of the night

Washing line - There is usually one in the bathroom but an extra portable retractable washing line with pegs attached will help dry clothes and swimwear on the balcony on those still port days

Waterproof phone case - Not only can you swim with some it will help keep your phone/camera safe while on deck Most come on a handy lanyard or with a wrist strap

Mam’selle memories...

Shirl Duranie Mellor passed on 11th February 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. Shirl loved Duran Duran, Tom Cruise, and her two cats. She collected Barbie, teddy bears, Snoopy and, of course, Sindy.

‘Shealwayssharedsuch upliftingSindyphotosand wasavibrantpartofour group.’Messages in Sindy Facebook groups

“We say Sindy friends are the best and it’s very sad for our doll community when we lose one of our own. I only met Shirl once, at Dollycon, but she was a massive supporter of Mam’selle. She was always one of the first to sign up for a subscription, order any new products, and send me kind messages about how much she was enjoying the magazine, or how useful she was finding the journal. Even when she found out she was ill she would enquire after my health, sending me Christmas cards, and memes of Sindy on my birthday. My last message from her was in January, asking for the new subscription and wishing me happy new year. I had no idea it would be the last message I would receive from her, as she had assured me she was doing ok Shirl will be sorely missed and forever remembered by her Sindy friends ”
