Introducing... Little Peggy Sue born on July 26th 2022 at 7.27am in the Cygnet Maternity Wing, weighing 7lb and 6oz.
'Peggy Sue' (1957) and 'Girl on My Mind' (1958) were both hit songs for Buddy Holly.
The love story of Doris & Buddy Part thirteen
‘That'll Be the Day’ (1957) was a hit song for Buddy Holly and the Crickets. Photos, Cathy Palmer.
That’ll be the day...
Thank goodness Buddy is always by my side, helping whichever way he can.
Doris and Buddy were out on their first walk with little Peggy Sue. They were a little nervous as poor Peggy Sue has had terrible colic. Thankfully, Doris has the knack and soon settles her.
... to be continued

DEAR SINDY... with Craft Editor, Sindy-Jane
before Jane from @stylemysindy shows us how to upcycle a wooden mini toy airport to make a stylish cat scratching post and climbing tower. 1. Remove the airport sign and push out the backing panel. 2. Cover the two roof sections with felt, glueing with a glue gun around the edge. Trim and cover the raw edges with a ribbon trim. 3. Wrap twine around the upright posts to create scratching posts. Secure with glue as you go. 4. Thread a fish charm on the end of some twine, and a bell and pom-pom on another piece of twine. Glue them both under one of the platforms to create hanging toys. 5. Make a small cushion using scraps of fabric and add to the bottom of the cat tree. .

MAM’SELLE MEETS...
Sarah Strachan
Sarah Strachan, 52, is a Contemporary Artist and lives in Totnes, Devon with her family and cat, Dot. Find her at: @sarahstrachancraft
As a contemporary artist, what started your love of making miniatures? It all started when my children were small. I made a doll for my daughter, then a friend asked me to make one for her. I started selling them in The Cross Shop in Notting Hill and via Selvedge magazine.
Sarah Strachan, Contemporary Artist
Sarah Strachan studied Fine Art Sculpture at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin before a career in London working in film, TV and theatre. She began making creatures and animals, including working on the first Harry Potter film. She later moved to Devon and started a craft business, making dolls initially, then dogs (both sold on Etsy) and continues to take commissions making puppets for theatre productions.
When and how did you discover you could make these adorable dogs? At some point, I made a miniature doll of Alys Fowler (British horticulturist, journalist and former presenter on the long-running BBC television programme Gardeners' World) and I added in her Jack Russell. That was the beginning of the little dogs as part of my craft business. What was the first dog you made? The very first one was a different design to the ones I sell now and was a little plaything for my children.
What materials do you mainly use? What's the easiest and most difficult part of each make? I make an armature and wrap the wool around it to create the little dog. The most difficult thing to get right is the eyes. If they are too low down, high up, wide apart or close together I re-do them. It can make the difference between a cute or a weird dog! How long does it take you to make a dog from start to finish? Roughly how big are they/what's the biggest one you have made? They can take between 2 and 6 hours depending on the dog. A special commission, a dog that I haven’t made before, that I need to work out can take me a day to make and sometimes I have more than one attempt to get it right. The standard breeds in my shop vary, with the simplest breeds taking roughly 2 hours to make. They are on average 6cm tall. The biggest dog I’ve made was a life-size puppet dog for a theatre production of Annie Junior in London’s West End. Have you ever made a dog that you haven't been able to part with? No, but I’ve had one or two that I’ve really loved. As a cat lover, any plans to add them to your shop? (please!) Very occasionally I make cats (I’m a cat-lover too!), but the way I make them means they might not be the right scale to go with Sindy. Please tell us - any special collaborations or commissions... Orla Kiely approached me in 2018 and we collaborated on a series of 27 dolls wearing miniaturised versions of her dress designs. She had her fabrics scaled down and sent me drawings of the dresses to work from. The dolls were exhibited in the London Fashion Museum as part of her retrospective, A Life in Fashion. Also, Tom Parker Bowles commissioned me to make Camilla’s dogs as a Christmas present!
My other passion is painting. Instagram @artsarahstrachan

SINDY & SCOTTY 1988 / 1989 Sold as a boxed set, the Hasbro Sindy & Scotty (8180) arrived in 1988 in a cute matchy-matchy red ensemble. Sindy wore a jumper with a motif of her beloved Scottish Terrier teamed with a tiered checked skirt, socks, pumps and cosy ear muffs. The following year Sindy & Scotty (8074) both had a Parisian makeover. Sindy in a chic dogtooth print boxy jacket and bubblegum pink skirt. Scotty had a stylish matching coat finished with a pink bow. They retailed for approx. £7.45. Both boxed dolls are quite hard to find now, so keep a lookout.
