A DOLLY MEET-UP IN THE COUNTRY W The Chippenham Museum in Wiltshire. The museum and gift shop is housed in an 18th century townhouse.

This was the first Sindy Set Meets to relocate from its usual city stop in London (we’ll see if the grass is really greener in the countryside!) and was organised to coincide with the aforementioned exhibition hosted by Chippenham Museum (from March 30th - May 11th 2024)

Coming under the spotlight this Spring, for hosting the 60th Anniversary Exhibition of Sindy, is the market town of Chippenham. This not-so-sleepy town was also host to the third (yes, third - can you believe it?) Sindy Set Meets, which took place on Saturday April 6th 2024

This special limited display has been curated by Sindy collectors and friends Karen Colley, 56 and Bonita Turner, 47 who met through their mutual love of Sindy while working on a small project for Pedigree (the owners of Sindy). So, it made sense to tie in a Sindy Set meet, so collectors could visit and make a day of it. Grab your country wear dolls - and let's go West. >>

The first Sindy Sets Meets of 2024 was held in Yelde Hall (below). This Grade 1 listed building in the market town of Chippenham, Wiltshire was built in around 1540. The building was originally used as a jail (in the cellar), as a courtroom (on the ground floor) and as a council chamber (upstairs). The Chippenham Savings Bank operated an office in the building on Saturday mornings from 1822. Since 2012, it has been refurbished and opened to the public as an extension of the Chippenham Museum and Heritage Centre.

We all met in Chippenham town centre and our day started with a private viewing of the Sindy 60th Anniversary Exhibition at the Chippenham Museum. This local history museum is housed in an 18th century townhouse and is free to enter. The permanent exhibitions tell the fascinating story of this historic market town from its prehistoric origins to the present day. The museum also has a small gift shop and access to the local library.

Wiltshire Doll Meet | Saturday 6th April 2024

After our morning viewing at the museum, we walked back over to Yelde Hall for lunch. This was supplied by local takeaway Boston Burger. We had a mix of grilled meats and fish salads, wraps, burritos and, of course, burgers. We had free-flowing tea, coffee and soft drinks as the Yelde Hall has a little kitchen, which made it easier to offer refreshments throughout the day. We also had a special surprise talk by Annie from Our Sindy Museum. After lunch it was time for a game...

The game set for the Sindy Set Meets attendees: each was given a different coloured sock and a small sewing kit to make a one-off outfit for Sindy. There was no need to worry about your sewing skills, as it was all in good fun. In fact, some people didn’t do any sewing at all - and just cut it to fit!

A DAY ABOUT TOWN Retail therapy is one of my favourite pastimes. A chic pair of cigarette pants teamed with a pair of two-tone heels (those of you that are familiar with me, know I am always in heels) gives the blouse a Parisian touch. A large bag is essential for all those necessary bits and bobs - add in some folding bags for life too, sweeties. And, I wouldn’t be able to manage without my retro glasses, as sometimes I do read the price tag!

VISITING MAM’SELLE HQ Occasionally, I love to pop into the Mam’selle Head Office and catch up with Penelope, the Editor, and the rest of the team. I travel into town by scooter, as it’s much quicker in the busy traffic. A pair of 3/4 Capri trousers and a French style beret is the perfect way to style this top for daytime. Flats are essential when riding, but guess what? Yes! ... in my roomy tote bag are my precious heels to change into on my arrival. I also like to take in a lovely treat (a box of tasty macaroons) for sharing during break time.

Gayle at @dresslikeasindy and our craft editor Sindy-Jane @stylemysindy show you two different ways to make over this vintage 5-piece pink wicker bathroom set from 1985. For a classic ‘wicker’ look: Mam’selle contributing interiors stylist Gayle went for a timeless look. She spray painted all the pieces with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2 x Ultra Cover in Khaki. For a modern look: Sindy-Jane used a primer as an undercoat and then sprayed the furniture with RustOleum Painter’s Touch in Blossom White.

GOWN RAIL 1980 This model style Gown Rail (44387) was a wonderful and portable (the rail was on wheels) addition to Sindy’s bedroom furniture. With space for hanging clothes, a rack on the side for storing shoes, a drawer for accessories or lingerie and a full-length mirror on the other side. In 1980 this set came with 6 blue hangers, 2 pairs of knee-high boots, 4 pairs of shoes and a cute red A-line dress - what a treat!
