BY @SINDY_DREAMING No avid child Sindy collector was seen without her Sindy bible! That being the latest brochure, catalogue or fold-out leaflet which highlighted what that year had in store... and what we would be asking Father Christmas for!
CARRYCASE (44563) “Case or hotel room? It's up to the child. Holiday travel has given a new dimension to the carry case concept. It's not just a means of transporting Sindy, but a complete environment at the flick of a catch.” (Copy from the 1977 brochure)
KER R Y , T H E S I N D Y CO L L ECT OR BEH I N D @SI N D Y _ D R EAM I N G "I bought a few old brochures and, as I had most of the outfits and scenesetters to hand, I had the idea to recreate the catalogue images. It's pure nostalgia for me, as I remember them so well from my childhood and, obviously, back in the day I didn't have all the clothes and accessories! That's why I'm called Sindy Dreaming, as that's what I did back in the day. Dreaming of the stuff I would have liked." (We hear you, Kerry!)

Meet Matthew from @dollsabouttown "I started my account a few years ago as an homage to Sindy, my favourite fashion doll. She and I first met around 1977 when, as a small boy, I spotted her in the local toyshop ('Funtime' in the denim A-Line dress, to be exact!). It was love at first sight - but soon became a tale of forbidden love! I was not allowed to buy her with my birthday money. Not for boys! Well, it was the seventies! Very different to now, but there is a happy ending to the story. A few years later I managed to acquire a second-hand Sindy and, at this point being interested in fashion, I started to make up my designs in miniature to fit her, learning to sew and pattern cut to scale. I was 11 or 12 at this point. I eventually studied Fashion at Kingston University and have now worked as a professional designer for over 20 years. I owe Sindy a lot. I have remained loyal and collected steadily since the 1990s. My favourite era is 1983-85 - the clothes, the dolls, the hostess trolley! I named my account @dollsabouttown as I wanted to create scenes that show Sindy in all kinds of situations. I used to love all the 1980s imagery from the Pedigree boxes and catalogues - it was all so well done. Sindy had an exciting life! It's great that we have Instagram. I love the contact with other Sindy fans, seeing their photos and, of course, creating my own! I'm looking forward to many more fun times going forward! See you on Instagram, dolls!"
SINDY WAS LAUNCHED ON SEPTEMBER 6TH 1963 Meet Sindy More than a doll, she is a real personality. The free, swinging, grown-up girl who lives her own life and dresses the way she really likes. (from the 1963 brochure) Meet Paul - Sindy's Boyfriend They met at a dance and Sindy was immediately attracted to his pleasant, slightly shy personality. She noticed what a well-dressed young man he is (and you know how important clothes are to her!) (from the 1965 brochure) Meet Vicki - Sindy's new English girl-friend She has curly hair and a bubbly personality. She's a happy, swinging, fun-loving girl who loves parties and having a good time. (from the 1968 brochure)

...how do I make my body taut again! RUTH'S TOP TIPS:
Did you know? The First Lovely Lively in 1971 saw many changes. She can now bend her arms and knees and turn her head 360 degrees. Her head is no longer attached to her neck but sits on a neck knob that is attached to her body. This Sindy is called 'Gauntlet Sindy' by collectors because of the gauntlet shaped underarms.
To re-string the gaunty arms the trick is to remove the old elastic then drop in a spot of Gorilla Glue using a bradawl. Push the cord elastic in well after dipping in the glue - normally I don't use glue but, for beginners or those not used to re-stringing, it's the easiest method. The arm elastics should only be pulled enough so that arms still lay flat against the body. If you have pulled the arms' elastic too tightly, they will stick out. If this happens, slacken slightly and slip a tension ring over the two legs, isolate the arm elastic from the body and adjust the tension correctly before tying off.
You will need...
.
A bradawl Good quality elastic cord, round (2mm) Aluminium craft wire 2mm (12 gauge) Gorilla Glue (optional)

SINDY MAJORETTE, 1979
30 | MAM'SELLE MAGAZINE
Majorette (44620) a boxed doll and outfit of a basic blonde Sindy wearing a pretty majorette's outfit. The royal blue brushed nylon all-in-one mini dress was designed to look like a long-sleeved tunic jacket and skirt with a silver cape. Sindy came with a matching peaked hat, white marching boots and, of course, that all-important silver plastic twirling baton.
