from the president Focusing on Your Success With the first month of 2022 already behind us, your Chamber team is focused on the work ahead. Supporting the success of your business and our community has always been at the center of the Manatee Chamber's mission... and the work has never felt more important. The past two years have brought a feeling of urgency to our work as well as a sense of slowing down to enable laser focus on what our members need right now - and we ask that question constantly. We have been able to connect local businesses and organizations to the resources they need, give a business voice to the decision-making process of our policymakers, and grow the Manatee Chamber's network so that our members can capitalize on the power of connection. As our 2022 Chairman of the Board Rick Bisio shared at last month's Chamber Annual Dinner, "We are committed to a mission that works whether you are in Lakewood Ranch or Anna Maria, Palmetto or Parrish, Bradenton or Sarasota. We use the collective support and power of the largest membership in the Tampa Bay region to build our economy and ensure a stellar quality of life." It is your investment, as a member of the Manatee Chamber, that underpins it all. Thank you for your support. It matters! Our ability to come together as a business community – as leaders – has never been stronger. I invite you to look over the list of 20+ Chamber and MYP committees that bring the collective knowledge and influence of our members to bear on important issues. We would love to have your involvement. We are smarter and stronger together and I am excited about the year ahead. Wishing you much continued success,
Celebrating the impact of business leadership at the Chamber's Annual Dinner: Jacki Dezelski, Chamber President|CEO, Rick Bisio, 2022 Chairman of the Board, and Phill Baker, 2021 Chairman of the Board.
There is power in a network, and when you are part of the largest network in the Tampa Bay region we all have access to more...

"The Manatee Chamber tops the list as the largest Chamber of Commerce in Tampa Bay as ranked by number of member firms." From our team to yours, THANK YOU for the privilege of partnering with you to strengthen your business and our community!

public policy Legislative Update
Join the Manatee Chamber at Politics & Pints
The 2022 Florida Legislative Session kicked off on January 11. As the Florida Legislature works through Session, the Manatee Chamber continues to advocate on behalf of the business community on priorities that are important to you, including infrastructure, attainable housing, water quality, workforce development, healthcare and more. We also support legislation that will continue to reduce the business rent tax, Florida’s corporate income tax and the Communications Services tax
Our legislators will be returning from Tallahassee to give you an exclusive recap of the 2022 Legislative Session at our Politics & Pints roundtable wrap-up.
Members of the Chamber’s Legislative Committee spent several days in Tallahassee during the final committee week, prior to the start of Session, meeting with our local representatives in the Senate and the House, legislative staff and policy heads from Florida Department of Transportation as well the Florida Department of Environment Protection for an update on Piney Point. The Committee serves as a key component of the process in sharing updates from Tallahassee, from their particular industries, and from their relationships with others in the legislative arena. While this committee meets primarily in the fall to develop our State and Federal Business Agenda, they are often called back together to discuss a new bill or a new issue that has suddenly come up through the legislative process. These kinds of partnerships make our Chamber stronger and enhanced our ability to quickly respond to requests from elected officials, government agencies, and our members. This session we expect to see a focus on property insurance reform, education and workforce initiatives as well as changes to the capital investment tax credit program for businesses. Natural resources is also a priority this year, with funding allocated to Piney Point to improve water quality in the Tampa Bay and everglades restoration. Legislators are also focused on the new redistricting maps tackling the $99.7 billion proposed state budget. Session is expected to conclude on March 11.
Join us for food and pints while you hear from our legislators and take the opportunity to ask our elected officials your burning questions over a cold beer.
Invited Elected Officials Include: • • • • • • •
Senator Jim Boyd, District 21 Senator Joe Gruters, District 23 Representative Michele Rayner, District 70 Representative Will Robinson, District 71 Representative Fiona McFarland, District 72 Representative Tommy Gregory, District 73 Representative James Buchanan, District 74

Go Back-To-School with Project TEACH Join the Manatee Chamber as we present the Project TEACH program at all county elementary schools on Thursday, March 10. Project TEACH is designed to increase career awareness among 4th grade students and stress the importance of first impressions. For many students, this is one of the first times they have had a business volunteer in their classroom and the first time they have been exposed to careers other than those of their parents. More than 150 volunteers will be needed to reach every 4th grade class. Volunteering is EASY and takes only a few hours of your time on the morning of March 10. An orientation and breakfast will be provided bright and early, before volunteers head to their classrooms. If you have a specific school or teacher request, let us know when registering.
Thursday, March 10 | Schedule:

business after hours Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Business After Hours on December 7th! It was a fantastic pleasure to host this event to showcase who we are, what we do, and to display our museum as well as our plans to bring back the De Soto Courtyard to Bradenton and Historical Society Manatee County. Part of our mission is to foster and facilitate an appreciation of the Spanish-American heritage in Manatee County through the landing of Hernando de Soto in 1539 at Shaw’s Point. We hope everyone enjoyed the delicious food and drinks and made a few network connections. Hernando
If anyone has any questions regarding the Hernando De Soto Historical Society or what we do, please do not hesitate to contact De Soto HQ. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon! HERNANDO DE SOTO HISTORICAL SOCIETY PO Box 1663 | Bradenton, FL 34206 |941-747-1998 | Desotohq.com
