CELEBRITY INTERVIEW
The rather fabulous and unforgettable former X-Factor star Misha B has just released her debut single “Home Run” on the 15th July. I asked the Manchester singing sensation about life after the show, her fantastic new album, working with Kelly Rowland and about “that” incident in the X-Factor that nearly ended her music career. by Joy Lewis Hi there Misha how are you? I’m great thanks for asking. I’m all happy and really excited about my single being released. It’s been lots of hard work and really long days with me traveling up and down the country but it’s done now and I’m proud!
No rest for the wicked then hey? God no, I was a busker on the streets of Manchester before X Factor and as soon as I got the chance to go on the show I realised that this was my chance, my break so since then I have grabbed everything with both hands.
What else have you been up to since leaving the X Factor? Busy, work work work! I didn't waste any time, as soon as I left the show I started preparing for the X Factor tour. I also had various different meetings with different labels but in the end I went with the one that I had an instant connection with.
Your new single is “Home Run”, are you happy with people’s reactions to it? Yeah, I’m really surprised, people have been really positive and I’m getting Tweets all the time saying people love it. So it’s put me in a really good happy place right now.
Which was? Well not Simon Cowell’s label, I went for Relentless Records which is much the better fit for me anyway. So from there I went straight into the studio. With a break for the X Factor tour, which was, let me tell you, one of the best experiences of my life! No breaks for me though because as soon as I was done with that I went straight back into the studio. 8 MONTHLY LIFESTYLE
We saw you perform a lot of different styles during the X Factor, which one is the true you? I wouldn’t say I have a personal style I just love music, all music, if I like a song I just like it, I don’t have to check which genre it comes from first. When I perform a song I have to find some sort of a connection with it otherwise I can’t find a way of performing it. I don’t want to be boxed into any genre of music I just want to be free.
Who are your biggest influences? Michael Jackson, you know because you just don’t get better than him. But there’s more, Tina Turner, Lauren Hill, Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Eminem, loads of people, oh and Adele, she’s just amazing I could listen to her all day! There have been a lot of rumours that you are going to be collaborating with one of your idols Missy Elliot later this year, is that true? Yeah, there is a lot of truth in that but nothing’s been settled yet, everything is still up in the air, she’s working on her album at the moment so its finding the time to get together but we are definitely both keen to do it, so………………………….. You got loads of bad press about a daft remark you made about one of the judges , which blew up out of all proportion, did you nearly walk away from it all, with all the publicity how did you keep the faith and stick with it? It was really difficult for a time. I questioned everything; I kept asking myself why is this happening? Is this
CELEBRITY INTERVIEW
for me? Do I want to carry on with music? But it’s like, without struggle there’s no success, so yeah I carried on for every high there is a low. You were also accused of bullying, is it just that you have a strong personality? Do you think it got blown out of all proportion again just for the TV audience? To this day I still don’t see where is really came from. It’s all, for me, just a misunderstanding. We all lived in this house together and everything that happened in it got blown up. I had a stand still moment, it didn’t kick in till I got on twitter and I saw peoples reaction and the abuse I was getting. I’ve been bullied myself in the past so I would never do it to somebody else. My mum always taught me to put God first, trust him and know that everything you are going though there is a reason, you just have to overcome and be stronger there are always lessons to be learned. What was working with Kelly Rowland like? Was she a good mentor? Let me tell you it was a total life changing experience, she kept telling me, “Misha Misha you gotta loosen up”, but I kept just saying, yeah but do you know who you are? But I loved it, she was great. Away from the cameras she was 100% real, as real as you can get, proper down to earth. I really struggle with confidence and self-esteem issues. Kelly supported me throughout the show. She’s not had the best of life so she is a great example in how to overcome hardship. She is my guardian angel, my big sister. She pushed me to be better all the time, she told me to always keep my feet on the ground and to stay true to who you are and work hard. Did Kelly Rowland contribute to the album? Erm……… I cannot confirm or deny that! I’ll take that as a yes then (She laughs) not saying! So who else did you work with for the album? That I can say, TMS, Kat Krazy, Naughty Boy, Fraser T Smith and Ballistic, loads of people, I’m a lucky girl right? Have you gone for lots of different styles for your album? Yeah, totally. With my album, “home
run” the single, is just one chapter of it. I’ve experimented with rock and indie too. I just want to celebrate music. It’s important for me not to be boxed. We just went into the studio open minded, I wanted it to be fun and free. I just wanted to work fresh, we just had loads of ideas that we just threw about and we ended up with lots of styles. I like experimenting with all genres of music so every track is a new chapter to listen to. When will it be released? We’re still working on it, but it will be out by the end of the year, October time I think.
Misha B “Home Run” is available to download on itunes now. There are rumours that you are taking this album to the US later in the year, can you confirm? (She laughs again), where you getting all your info girl? I don’t know fingers crossed right; again I can’t confirm or deny. I’d say that it’s one of my main goals in life to take my music to the world and I spent loads of time there when I was a child so yeah at some point. Thank You Misha, good luck with the single - Cheers Lifestyle Monthly! MONTHLY 9 LIFESTYLE

AUGUST bank holiday in Liverpool will have a distinct Merseybeat feel to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles. As part of the Mathew Street Music Festival, which takes place on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 August, there will be a nod to Liverpool’s most famous sons as the second day has been renamed Merseybeat Monday, celebrating all things Beatles and Beatles-influenced. Two stages will be dedicated to the Fab Four as that week marks 50 years since Ringo joined John, Paul and George. A selection of tracks from every Beatles album will be performed.
Once again, businesses are being asked to support the festival which can no longer be solely funded by the city council due to budget pressures. Local businesses benefit from the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to the city over the August weekend, and a range of opportunities are available for them ranging from sponsoring one of the acts performing right through to making smaller contributions.
Over the two days, five stages across the city centre will fantastic live host music to attract all ages. The line up will be announced in the next fortnight, but the stage themes are:

HOPE STREET On the streets, in the park, by the bus stop, up a tree . . This summer, Hope Street Ltd is bringing four large-scale, outdoor performances bursting onto the streets of Liverpool, and best of all, it’s all for free! Hope Street Limited has been creating exciting and innovative performance and opportunities for creative development with the people of Liverpool, Merseyside and beyond, for over twenty four years. Its Emerging Artists Programme, which is currently underway, is unique to the city. Over a period of six months it trains, nurtures and develops a new generation of talented artists, from film-makers to actors, directors to designers. Selection is based on passion and ability regardless of age, educational background or chosen speciality. The programme provides a space for the twenty-three selected artists to learn practical skills, experiment and challenge themselves in a supportive atmosphere.
This summer’s events are:
Everton Schools' Pageant Children created banners and other art works, inspired by themes of regeneration and renewal. The children were encouraged to explore their hopes and dreams. Having been launched in a lovely morning event in Everton Park, the artwork produced by the 6 schools will be now be exhibited in a city centre vacant space over the summer. Floating World Wednesday 15th August Inspired by the mythology and atmosphere of the Turner Monet Twombly Exhibition, this production will begin in Everton Park and celebrate this areas' green spaces and spectacular views. Pop-up performances, live music and film will be presented and the audience will have an opportunity to have a picnic in the park. The second part of the event will take place at the Albert Dock and in the Tate. Omelette Challenge and Distraction Tug-of-War. Deadline Saturday 20th October Produced in partnership with Liverpool Biennial, this will take the form of a treasure hunt. Members of the public work together to solve clues and prevent the unimaginable from happening! As always the answers lie in the art. The quest leads teams around the Biennial sites, to Everton Park with a finale around the former Everton Library. Supported by smaller pop-up performances, in unexpected locations around North Liverpool, South Sefton, the city centre and the waterfront, we hope to bring our enthusiasm and energy for all kinds of performance and creation to as many people as we can, and share our passion with the city. Underpinning all of the public performance projects will be a participation programme involving community groups, schools, colleges, youth centres and youth
theatres. It is our aim to make opportunities available for anyone who wants to be a part of something special. Hope Street is the only organisation in the area that invites artists from around the world to create innovative cross art-form projects with emerging artists and community groups. Each year it delivers in the region of 300 workshops in schools, more than 100 in community settings and produces 10 shows that are site-specific, outdoor, family friendly events, best of all FREE of charge. Our emphasis is always on them being available to everyone. Last year, over 125,000 people saw productions by Hope Street Ltd. It is a multiple award-winning organisation invested in by Liverpool City council and Arts Council England. More information on any of these projects can be found on the website www.hopestreet.org or at our Facebook page: Facebook.com/hopestltd Photography: Pete Carr

State of the art skin treatment from SkinFirst delivers revolutionary results Catherine Catto started SkinFirst in October 2008 and since then she has grown her business from a single location in Warrington to a national chain of skin clinics. More recently she has made a strategic move into the business-to-business market sector as a leading supplier of Skin Systems to the medical and beauty sectors across the UK. SkinFirst had a 'soft' opening on the Wirral in September 2010, when they tested the market within a small beauty salon in Heswall. Their value proposition, offering the safest and latest non-invasive hair removal and anti-ageing treatments, proved to be so successful that in less than a year they had acquired their own retail premises in a prime position in Heswall. Here they are able to provide the highest possible levels of customer service and results-led treatments. They also sell a wide range of skin products, including cosmeceutical ranges from Skinceuticals, Dermaquest, Medik8, and Skin Medica, as well as high-street brands such as Clarins. They also stock a range of mineral make ups such as the excellent Youngblood range and Art Deco. However, the addition of Skin Systems business-to-business sales and rentals has been the best move to date, as other salons seek to emulate the success of SkinFirst by buying, or renting, these unrivalled skin treatment systems. They have taken on staff in London, where demand is huge, and are now recruiting in Scotland and Yorkshire. For treatment information please visit www.skinfirst.co.uk, and for business opportunities see www.skinfirstsystems.co.uk of telephone 0800 112 3200.

Liverpool welcome a change in the hot seat for the new season, with Brendan Rogers facing a tough task to take over from the Legend Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool and Everton have both launched new kits for the new season.
Two new family friendly zones to be created at Anfield
Liverpool FChas created two new family friendly zones at Anfield in time for the new season. The adult and child section in the upper tier aims to engage, interact and share the history of the Club with families while ensuring their match day experience is one to remember. The second zone is a new “Family Park” which will be open to families pre and post match and will have a range of entertainment to keep youngsters occupied including interactive activities. It will stay open after the game to ensure families have a fun place to go while avoiding the post match traffic. The Family Park will be located between the food village and Anfield Road car park and entry is free to all families who have a match day ticket. Andrew Parkinson, Liverpool FC’s Operations Director said: “Providing a family friendly enjoyable match day atmosphere is a high priority for the Club and we are delighted to be able to make these developments at Anfield. Families can expect a welcoming, sociable atmosphere where they can interact with each other and not only enjoy some top class football, but the wonderful entertainment provided within these areas.
Warrior Sports, are the new Liverpool kit manufacturer, they have released 3 new kits for the forth coming season. The new 2012/13 Liverpool FC third kit is on sale from the 2nd August A bold and colourful shirt designed by Warrior Football and to be worn by Liverpool during their upcoming UEFA Europa League campaign and selected Barclays Premier League games. Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard believes the new kit is one of the best in the country. EVERTON FC’s new home strip has been well recieved though there has been a mixed reaction to the return of blue socks. The stylish Royal Blue jersey is the Club’s first home kit to feature the famous Nike swoosh, after the global sportswear giant became Everton’s technical partner for next term. The classic shirt features broad white cuffs and a white v-neck trim, and is made from Nike Dri-Fit fabric which is lightweight and manages perspiration, keeping players dry and comfortable for 90 minutes and beyond. The shirt is also part of Nike’s Considered Design programme aimed at reducing environmental impact, and consists of 100% recycled material. Good luck for the new season to both Liverpool and Everton FC,let’s hope the season brings us success and triumph. 24 MONTHLY LIFESTYLE

Passengers Give Merseyrail the Thumbs Up We all love to moan about public transport – it’s unreliable, expensive, overcrowded and dirty. Not so for Merseyrail. In the latest survey about passenger satisfaction, commissioned by industry watchdog, Passenger Focus, the company scooped the highest score in the country with a record 96%, the highest it’s ever got. This is 13% higher than the overall national average, 10% above the average awarded to other regional train operators and 5% more than it achieved for the same period last year. 94% of people polled said that they found the service punctual and reliable and two thirds agreed that Merseyrail represented value for money. Both of these were the highest scores of all the companies polled. And 80% were satisfied that there was enough room for people to sit and stand, with the same amount saying they were happy with the cleanliness of trains. And it doesn’t stop there. Last month, Merseyrail bagged another record result, scoring a dazzling 98% for performance, meaning that over this period, it was the best performing train operator in the UK. This measurement takes into account arrival times at final destinations, cancellations and stopping at all designated stops. Maarten Spaargaren, Merseyrail’s managing director, said: ‘It is great that passengers are recognising the huge efforts our staff make to deliver a safe, reliable, punctual and comfortable journey for everyone. We are delighted to get this recognition from our customers.’
5 minutes with model, TerriAnn Stewart representing Southport at Miss Supranational this month. How did you get into modelling? Last year I was a finalist in Miss Liverpool, I had tried before that, aged 14 and 18 doing photoshoots but didnt know where to start. At Miss Liverpool I won the MissrRouge title and became the face of a makeup business and from there it just opened so many doors and bought so many things my way. Tell us about the pageants you have entered. Miss United Kingdom supranational was a break away from miss intercontinental 4 years ago, in those 4 years Miss supranational has became the worlds top pageant winning all awards in 2011, over miss world and universe. First of all i had to find a sponsor I managed to get one quite quickly, thanks to Micheal Ellen Photography. Tell us about Miss UK On the 9th August girls get chosen for Miss England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The overall winner is crowned Miss United Kingdom on the night, the winner also gets a 3 week fully paid trip to world finals to compete to be the overall winner of Miss Supranational. What is your beauty regime? I just cleanse, tone and moisterise every morning and night and make sure i drink plenty of water to keep my skin soft and hydrated. What is your most precious beauty product? My moisteriser! Oh and a bit of lip balm. What is the best thing about your job? I love the experience of all the things I get to do, I get to meet so many new people, try some outrageous things and I love that it's not predictable. Where do you shop? I like River Island, Topshop, asos.com and Liverpool's fabulous little boutiques. Oh and now HOTfrocks after seeing their amazing dresses for the shoot! What are your plans for the next 12 months? SAVE THE PLANET A STITCH AT A TIME Have you ever looked into your wardrobe and wondered how you’ve managed to collect so many clothes? Are you ever going to wear that pair of jeans you bought two years ago, or that jacket which has never been off its hanger? Hoarding clothes is something a lot of us do – we’ve tried them on, we’ve bought them, it’s hard to let go – even if they don’t fit anymore! Huge amounts of clothing end up in landfill every year, an unnecessary expense for you and for the environment. But instead of stressing over storage, there are things you can do to de-clutter your house. First and foremost, if the clothes are in good condition, then chances are somebody else will be happy to wear them. If this is the case, then offer them to friends and family, chances are they’ll get more use out of the items than you do. Alternatively, a local charity shop will always be glad to take quality items from you. If you can’t get to a local shop, a lot of charities have textiles banks at supermarket car parks. Some charities also make door-to-door collections, as do some local councils, so
check what services you get at home. If you’ve got worn-out clothes that have seen better days then you’ll probably be better off recycling them – even a sock with a hole in is worth recycling. Your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre will have special textile containers that accept all sorts of clothes and footwear. The fabrics are shredded and reprocessed into new items, which is much better than them sitting in a landfill site generating methane, which contributes to climate change. Most importantly, next time you go clothes shopping ask yourself if you’re really going to wear what you buy, or will it end up gathering dust at the back of your closet. FASHION As I like to be different with my style I love mixing vintage clothing with high street labels. Urban Outfitters in Liverpool One is one of my favourite shops for finding quirky and unique items. I relish rummaging through the rails in the concessions section and I found a printed retro T shirt which had been customised into a cute shorter top. I am a huge fan of customising old clothing, reinventing classic items making them more current and accessible.
Wirral fashion blogger with a passion for fashion..
To complete the look I teamed it with high waisted faded denim shorts from www.stylewardrobe.co.uk which I love being accessible with any outfit. So if you are a festival feind too be creative with your clothing and mix it up with vintage.
Liv Stringer vintage fashionista from the Wirral shares her fashion finds and style tips with our readers this month. Combining both vintage and high street clothing for a quirky and unique look. Summer is here and when looking through recent magazines ‘festival fashion’ seems to be a recurring theme with summer trends. Being a festival fiend, this month I went to Cocoon in the park in Leeds. For my outfit this year I raided the high street and came across a quaint vintage shop called Lily Vintage in Chester’s city centrewww.lilyvintage.co.uk. The army jacket in the window was a must have and I thought it would be perfect for the festival with its retro and grunge feel. The shop floor has a mega collection of handmade, retro and vintage pieces and being a shopaholic I was in heaven. It was an awesome find.

I have recently set up my own business providing afternoon tea on vintage china. Cupcakes are a big part of afternoon tea now and give what was once an old fashioned concept a modern twist. I am running a series of workshops with afternoon tea and a craft session. Obey of these sessions will feature how to create a bouquet which consists of cupcakes not flowers! I also made some fabulous muppets cupcakes recently which were fun to make! Website: www.victoriarose.org.uk
My favourite cupcake style for a Summer picnic would have to be a vintage style cupcake design. Vintage cries out the Summer feel and I love this style. It would also have to be filled with a good old fashioned style sponge cream filling too. I love vintage bunting, brooches, shoes, bags and floral designs that are bright and colourful to the eye and taste buds! I began my little business from a hobby and taught myself most of the recipes and techniques in my spare time, as I work part time. My family and friends started commenting on my cupcakes and wanted orders. RESTAURANT REVIEWS
PREGO 4 Kenyon Steps | One Park West | Chavasse Park Liverpool |L1 3DF Situated at the bottom end of Liverpool 1, it is an Italian restaurant with unique qualities. Myself and Radio City Power House producer Liam Hincks were greeted by the main man David and Giovanni with a typical warm welcome that your guaranteed to get at Prego. from the great selection of starters including calamare, crab fish cakes, numerous starter platters to share including the hot combo Italiano which feature meat balls, goujons, spring rolls, king prawns and Sicilian rice balls. I opted for the crab and pancetta fish cakes with tarted sauce while Liam opted for Pollo Fritto which is breaded strips of chicken with a selection of dips. But no true Italian meal would be complete without a portion of Garlic Bread , we were presented with a mouthwatering thinly hand rolled garlic , tomato and basil oil bread , I really do highly recommend It , The fishcakes were beautifully flavoured with the the panchetta through it , just gives them that extra bite , topped with a crisp selection of salad leave and homemade tartare sauce it went down a treat with an Ice crisp glass of Peroni. Liam’s Chicken gougons were again meaty, crunchy and both the BBQ sauce and garlic mayo were good starter choices. For the mains, Prego’s beef stroganoff - although not typically Italian - is very much a popular dish here. It is definitely more than your normal Italian. Liam ordered that and we both tucked in. It was creamy, beefy with a hint of smoked paprika and a good splash of brandy and came with a side order of rice so it’s both delicious and filling. My main was Chef proprietor Francos’ special chicken dish, Chicken Calabrese, named after Calabria where Franco comes from. It’s chicken breast with spicy Calabrian pepperoni , olives onion, tomato and chilli, served with seasonal veg. I skipped the potatoes and opted for a mixed salad beautifully dressed, you can’t beat Italian olive oil, in my opinion the best in the world. Puddings - greed more than need! Tiramisu which incidentally means Lift Me Up in Italian and Ameretto Chantilly , 2 classic dishes together with a small plate of Profiteroles made personally by the chef. It’s always a pleasure and a treat to come to Prego: reasonably priced, great service and top notch food. It’s what dining out is all about.

GALA LEO CASINO 44 Chaloner Street Liverpool | L3 4BF
On entering the Leo Casino its top floor restaurant offers an amazing riverside view of the Mersey. We were greeted by Keiron, and the lovely Hannah who made us so welcome. I loved the fact the restaurant is set beside the tables, although not too close. My guests for the evening were my beautiful niece Seainin and her boyfriend Llyr. We started the evening with a fine range of starters with Seainin going for The Beetroot Hummus. Llyr opted for the Crab and Lemon Grass Tortellini with Thai dressing and I decided to go for a Double Baked Cheddar and oven dried tomato soufflé. All the starters tasted as good as they sounded. They were delish! The Beetroot Hummus was the most unusual starter as I have never seen it before on any menu. But gosh, was it moreish! Llyr’s choice of Crabmeat and Tortellini in Thai Spices was a great fusion of Italy and Thailand, but without being biased, my Soufflé packed a flavour you could taste with every ingredient and the sweet tangy caramelised onions was the perfect marriage on a plate. For our main course's , Seainin went for the Chicken Supreme stuffed with a Chorizo mousse, set on a Potato and Onion Rosti with crunchy fresh asparagus and mederis Jus. The chicken remained moist thanks to the mousse. Seainin loved it so much she even managed to consume a portion of hand cut chips complete with skin - oh yes she did! Llyr opted for the Rib Eye Steak with peppercorn sauce, a good sized steak, sealed and seasoned to perfection. I went for the whole grilled Plaice in a Brown Shrimp Butter with chopped new potatoes. It’s been a long time since I tasted Plaice so good. With the French beans and sugar snap peas it was as good a complete meal as you could hope for. I too could not resist having some of the above mentioned chips and a selection of Salads. All I can say is “Wow! “, Then Hana announced PUDDINGS. Bloomin' heck! As the sun set over the Mersey, 3 of the best puddings you could ever imagine arrived at our table. Seainin chose the Asiette of Nuts, Llyr opted for the Choux Pastry filled with an espresso chocolate Ganache and I went with the Limoncello Cheesecake with vanilla Tuile, candied strawberries and blackcurrant sorbet. After careful consideration and much debating, my desert came out on top. To be honest, if you never visit the restaurant you'll never know how fantastic the deserts are. Seriously, one word that best describes the deserts is “AMAAAAZZZIN” Well done to the chef and the team! LIFESTYLE

Humphries AV is the leading supplier of audio and visual technical equipment for corporate and private events. As we head to Liverpool Fashion Week, Humphires AV, who are responsible for sound, audio and set design for this event, we chat to MD James Humphries. Why did you set up the company? I felt there was a niche in the market in Liverpool for a company offering good value without compromising on the quality of service. Which areas do you cover? Chiefly Liverpool, Manchester & Cheshire but we often perform events elsewhere in the country also. How many staff do you employ? Currently 6 full time staff members & two part time junior technicians What is your background? I am from a live event background with experience in looking after the technical side of corporate & private events. Who do your clients include? We have done work for clients as varied as BBC Worldwide, Aintree Racecourse, Bupa, Juice FM, Havana Club & Vauxhall. We regularly work with venues including Hilton, Liverpool, Thistle Atlantic Tower, Alma de Cuba & Holiday Inn & have also worked with celebrities including Professor Green, Gary Barlow,& Pamela Anderson What do you offer? We can supply any event organiser with – sound, vision, lighting, staging & stage sets from our in house stock. All backed up by a team of technical experts to ensure your event runs smoothly. What can we expect to see at Liverpool Fashion Week? A whole host of professionally produced catwalk
shows incorporating professional backdrops & staging. There will be a different lighting theme for each venue & a few surprises thrown in for good measure! What is so special about your company? Our mission statement: Professionalism, reliability, honesty, we aim to exceed our customers expectations. Are you finding companies cutting back on corporate events at the moment? Not so much cutting back on the events themselves but certainly cutting back on budget. The current climate has benefitted us as event organisers now look for companies that will give them more for their money. What are your most memorable moments? Transforming Dirk Kuyt’s house into a nightclub for a New years eve pool party he was holding. Against all odds successfully producing a large awards show at The Hillbark Hotel in December despite ridiculous amounts of snow on the roads. What would be your ideal booking? My two favourite venues in the city centre are The Hilton & The Crown Plaza so something spectacular in one of these venues is always good. How do you keep up with new technology and equipment? We invest in state of the art sound & lighting equipment on a monthly basis keeping our events fresh & unique. T: 0845 3880 110 Twitter: @HumphriesAV Visit: www.humphriesav.co.uk LIFESTYLE

Don’t forget puss in your holiday plans this summer
Cats Protection’s St Helens Adoption Centre has come up with a holiday checklist to help owners make arrangements for cat care during their summer break. The charity hopes the tips will help owners arrange for their cats to be well cared for when they are away from home – giving them the peace of mind to relax. “We all look forward to getting away on holiday but leaving your cat can be a real worry for some owners. By following some simple steps you can make sure your cat will be properly looked after and suffer minimal disruption.” As cats are territorial, says Cats Protection, they are happiest in familiar surroundings, so if owners are going away it is best to make arrangements with someone trustworthy, such as a neighbour or a professional cat sitter, to care for their cat in his own home. Alternatively, owners should contact the Feline Advisory Bureau on 0870 742 2278 or www.fabcats.org for a list of recommended boarding catteries. When choosing a cattery, owners should: • Make sure your cat is up-to-date with his vaccinations. Most reputable catteries will not accept cats which are not fully vaccinated and will want to see their vaccination certificate or veterinary record. • Ensure the cattery is licensed with the Local Authority to ensure it has been properly inspected. • Ask to have a good look around the cattery, particularly at where your cat will be staying. Any good cattery will be happy to show owners around.
• Ensure you leave contact details of your own vet in case of an emergency – it is important your cat’s medical records can be accessed. • Pack familiar items to go with your cat for his stay at the cattery – puss will appreciate his own bedding with its familiar smell. Ensure you also take your cat’s favourite toys and scratching post for entertainment. • Whilst any good cattery should be fully secure, make sure your cat is microchipped to increase the chances of him being found in case he does manage to escape. • Ensure the cattery only looks after cats and doesn’t have kennels for dogs. Dogs are much noisier than cats and many cats will be distressed by the sound of dogs barking.

HE'S BOLD, HE'S BRASH, HE'S JUST WHAT LIFESTYLE LOVES...... JAIDEN MICHEAL, THE SELF TITLED, "BRITAIN'S MOST BRUTAL BLOGGER." So its official, I'm Liverpool's hottest magazine's, hottest new columnist! With a reputation that makes Simon Cowell look like Pope John Paul, I thought I'd share to the readers of Lifestyle what's making me cringe each month. But of course I have a real soft side (think Snow White with a skin head and tattoos) so I will be sharing the love for anything that's made me smile.
Welcome to what bugs me or what I think is boss. BUG 1 - Lily Allen “comeback”
Oh sweet Mary! 1 word... WHY?? The mouthy troll famously stated she had started to hate the music industry and would never make another song, well maybe the bank balance is a bit on the dry side eh? Lily has announced she will make her music comeback this year. Woooooooo! I’d rather The Cheeky Girls made a comeback, they have better voices and at least their faces don’t resemble a smacked arse 24/7.
BUG 2 - The Bachelor
Biggest piece of CRINGE I’ve ever seen! I’d rather watch back to back episodes of Mastermind for 7 days solid than watch this shocking
programme ever again. Shamed Made in Chelsea snob,Spencer is so annoying and smug, the girls are just desperate and the whole format of the show is degrading to the girls on it! Spencer really thinks the girls are falling for his personality...ARE YOU MAD?? With the personality and sex appeal of a dead flea,it’s clear that the girls are only in it for one thing- his money! Tragic.
Around The World. With a real Liverpool dance sound to her music, with thanks to producers such as the leg end,Lee Butler,I’m sure we will all get behind this beauty and make this a well deserved hit!
BOSS 2 - Streets Boutique
BOSS 1 - Jessica Wright
The hottest girl from TOWIE and clearly the most talented. Unlike a massive percentage of other reality tv stars, Jessica actually has a talent she can use as a career, that doesn’t involve a lads mag!! Mark’s stunning little sis has an outstanding singing voice and whilst fellow cast members have been busy worrying about how orange their tan is and how small their waist is,Jess has been busy working with SCOUSE producers on some fantastic tracks! Her debut release, “Dance all night” is out now on YouTube and set for an official release this month and Jessica is now signed to top dance label All
Since being told to grow my hair for a potential new tv show, snapbacks have become my best friend! Nothing better than hiding vile bed head behind a cool cap! Imagine my face when @streetsboutique contacted me on Twitter and sent me this personalised, crystallised snapback!! I nipped into their shop in Camden a few weeks ago whilst I was down in London and I was like a cougar in a college rugby scum!! LOVED everything in there. If you love caps and adore bling, get yourself 1 ASAP. Check out www.Streetsboutique. co.uk for news on a SnapBack designed by me :) Until next month - if you can’t be good, dont get caught! LIFESTYLE

CRAIG PHILLIPS DIY expert
Hello Lifestyle readers! I hope you are all enjoying the fabulous summer of sports, even if the weather has left a little to be desired! I have been busy this month, but I have also managed to spend some time with friends and family and get away for a holiday in Spain to get some of the ingredient our summer has sorely missed so far: sun! It was also great to head “back to where it all began” for me, the Big Brother studios, to film for Big Brother’s Bit on the Side with Emma Willis and Alice Levine, the spin off magazine show from Big Brother. Since getting back, I have also been on a photoshoot with the Swedish clothing manufacturer Blåkläder, showcasing some of their latest ranges and I have also been doing a number of interviews with national newspapers about the forthcoming Keith Lemon Film, which I am in. This month, I’ve got a really simple tip for something that can really transform the inside of your home, if your door handles are looking a little tired and past their best. This is something useful you can get on with while watching all the fantastic sport on television this summer!
All the best, Craig “Follow me on Facebook and Twitter. My Twitter name is @craigbigbro1 and Facebook is www.facebook.com/Craig-Phillips”
TOOLS/MATERIALS:
Door handle set (including latch and screws)
How to Change/fit an internal door handle. Changing internal door handles is a very quick and easy task which can give a completely new look to your doors. The new look can be achieved within five minutes, unless you’re fitting handles to a new door that hasn’t already had handles fitted, this will be a little more tricky and should take about 15 minutes. STAGE ONE If you’re just changing the existing handles begin by unscrewing all the 4 screws from each handle on both sides of the door using your cordless screw driver and leaving the centre “square bar” inside the door and latch. Simply reposition your new handles onto both sides of the door and re-screw using the same holes from the original screws, tighten firmly into position. STAGE TWO To fit handles from scratch into a new door you will need to mark up on the edge of the new door with your pencil. Drill out the centre hole on the edge of the door for the latch using your cordless drill and a 22mm spade drill bit. STAGE THREE Mark up and drill two 14mm holes on both sides of the door where the square bar will slide through the door, this will allow you to now put the handles in place, mounting the square bar on both sides of the door. Finally, simply drive in all 4 screws through the new handles and 2 screws into the latch, holding them firmly into position.

Georgedé has recently been introduced to the UK and has already established a strong foot hold amongst clientele seeking understated elegance at a realistic and affordable price. Philippe Bendavid, Managing Director of Georgedé believes that there is a great distinction between style and trend; the former being innate, described perfectly by using the French dictum of ‘je ne sais quoi’ (I don’t know why), meaning it is difficult to pinpoint but it is there. Advises about networking It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.... and it’s what you do with who you know.
N
etworking has become an industry within its own right, networking used to be a method to expand your options, your possibilities, the people you know. Now as an industry in its own right with networking meetings all around the country each week, let’s look at how to get best from these events and make the most from these opportunity meetings. I get asked all the time “what do I say at a networking meeting”,” I run out of things to say” or “I end talking to the same people each time I go to one of these meetings”. Well the answer is very easy, get good at asking questions! People want to talk about the most important person they feel is in the room at this time and that person is them. Ask about what they do? Why they do what they do? What do they enjoy about what they do? A great question is to ask is, What are the challenges they face doing well at what they do? By asking questions they will find YOU more interesting and you will find out an enormous about them and their business. Great networkers can leave a room knowing lots and lots about the people in the room, their business their likes, their goals, their families and yet they know little about the person asking the questions. Imagine MMFI stamped to peoples foreheads Make Me Feel Important; make people feel important by asking them about them. Ask open questions, questions that start with “tell me about”, “can you explain to me”, “could you tell me how”, these open questions allow someone to go into detail in the answer, which gives you more information to establish areas that maybe you could work together or areas of how what you do could help them in what they do. Lots of networkers mooch around at networking events telling people what they do and why they are great at it on the off chance they may stumble across someone who needs what you do. Take the guess work away and the scatter gun approach and ask questions about the other people which can allow you if appropriate to tailor what you do to what they need. There are lots of books on the subject of networking; personally I would read books on questioning techniques then practice. We all know that practice makes permanent. Practice at those summer BBQ’s, if we eventually get a summer. To be a great networker, become a great communicator. QUESTIONS are the ANSWERS!

ZEST LETS LEADING PROPERTY AGENT SAYS NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR BUY-TO-LET INVESTORS
A leading Liverpool property agent with more than 20 years experience in the property industry believes that now is the perfect time for buy-to-let investment. MD of Zest Lets, Julie West, said that the present buy-to-let market is currently the best option available for investors, whether they are adding to their current portfolio or making their first ever purchase. Her comments come just days after The Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) stated that 55 per cent of letting agents from around the country believed that the demand for rental property is actually outstripping the supply. Julie, whose company specialises in both sales and lettings, said: “The buy-to-let market looks set to be one of the more successful business ventures of 2012. Although many of the national newspapers are filled with property related horror stories at the moment, as the UK economy is in a certain amount of turmoil, thanks to the economic downturn, buy-to-let has become the best option for investors.” A recent national report found that from the start of 2012, professional landlords have increased the size of their portfolio by 1.8 properties to an average of 10.8 properties. The most popular purchase is terraced homes, which has always been a tradition, followed by flats and semi-detached homes. “Whether you are already an investor or are looking to get into the property investment business”, said Julie, “You should always get advice in what you are doing and choose properties that you can afford to hold on to. 66

with Julie West, Director of Zest Lets If you look in the right places, you will see that housing prices are low and I have a strong feeling that they are set to rise again over the next couple of years. “Putting time and money into the right properties and locations at the right time means that buy-to-let investment can be extremely financially rewarding for those taking that chance. If you get it right, it means you will get a rental income that actual covers the cost of both the mortgage and maintenance.” Zest Lets is a leading estate and letting agents based in Liverpool covering Merseyside, Wirral, and also recently, Manchester. The business was originally started as a Lettings Agency in 2008, but after a year Julie expanded it to encompass an Estate Agency as the team were constantly being asked if they sold properties. She added: “One of the main benefits of investing in property is the significant capital gain you can make as your property rises in value over the long term. However, to benefit from the gain you need to make sure you can afford to hold the property in the meantime.” For more information, contact Julie and the team on 0151 733 7303.
