W
elcome to November, a month of mixed emotions. Whilst I dread the cold and the dark, I love the cosy nights in front of a log fire, I love celebrating two of my children’s birthdays and I love the build up to Christmas. This month we’re getting into the festive spirit and hope you can join us. Check out out guide to this year’s pantomimes around the region, with a special interview with Colleen Nolan, star of Cinderella at the Empire this year and pop into one of the Christmas fairs. In addition it’s another great month of celebrity interviews, with an exclusive chat to the Hairy Bikers who come to town and 80s pop star Sonia. We’re still recovering from Liverpool Fashion Week (see all the pics inside) and already working on our next event. The prestigious Liverpool Lifestyle Awards returns to the Crowne Plaza on 23 February. It promises to be a very cheeky affair with comedian, writer and actor Neil Fitzmaurice hosting. Go online and nominate your favourite company or person to win an award, www.liverpoolifestyleawards.co.uk As always enjoy the read... last month our friends at Q Park car park in John Lewis, who stock Lifestyle magazine said that our issue flew off the shelves while others hardly got touched. We went back to restock twice!!! Proving once again that we are number one and going strong. Stay safe and warm.

In an interview with the
HAIRY BIKERS Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers and Si King will be visiting Liverpool’s Empire Theatre this November in their new live show Hairy Bikers: Larger than Live. The show promises to bring you into their rambunctious world for an evening of laughter, high-jinks and just possibly a bit of cooking on the side! I managed to speak to Dave Myers just before they started their tour. You will be pleased to hear that he is as charming, friendly and funny in real life as he is on the telly! by Joy Lewis Hi Dave! Congrats on your latest baking book “The Hairy Dieters” going to the top of the Amazon charts! Oh thanks, did you know we knocked 50 Shades of Grey off the top spot? Ya see women want real men, who can bake! We’re way more sexy! What can people expect from the live tour? Oooh loads of things! It is food that drives us always has and always will. But food won’t sustain a whole show. So this is about travel, music, talking and having fun. I’m doing a bit of escapology – the padlocks are real! There’s also strip tombola, with prizes to be won. It’s a proper night out. We want people to really enjoy themselves, get involved and have a good laugh. Every night of the tour we will pick a member of the audience to sit on stage while we cook for them. We will give them loads to drink as well just to make sure they have a good time. We are also expecting a few special celebrity guests are to join us on certain nights along the tour, so you never know who might be coming for dinner! Are you looking forward to Liverpool? Have you been here before? Oh yes, I love Liverpool, in fact it’s my old stomping ground. I’ve been there more times than I can count. Obviously Barrow on Furness, my home town, is the place I’m looking forward to doing the tour most, but Liverpool is the second most important night for me! I used to come all the time as a boy too. When the new school year started all the children were asked what they did in the school holidays. I always said that I had been on the New Brighton Cruise! Then when I got older I used to come in with my mates to go to the bars and see bands. Yeah Liverpool is great, and it’s at the Empire Theatre, I can’t wait! How did you meet? Oh we are best mates, Si was my best man! With us, what you see is what you get. We have been friends for a very long time, 18 years! Si was a location manager we met on the set of a Catherine Cookson drama and I was a make-up artist. After that we were wondering what to do next. So we decided to turn our hobbies of motorbikes, cooking, eating and chatting into a living. Can you sum up how you feel about food? Easy! I think food is the biggest common denominator; it cuts through class, religion, race and nationality. It’s something everybody can understand. It’s universal. 10 LIFESTYLE
The Hairy Bikers hit Liverpool on the 25th November. There are still tickets, but they are selling like those delicious hot cakes they cook – so make sure to get your mitts on some before they all sell out!
You took your love of food recently across the pond to the home of big eating, Mississippi, America. Oh yeah, Mississippi, that was great - we slotted right in! The food was amazing. We really enjoyed ourselves. People can be so snobbish about American food, but it’s not all burgers and sugary bread. There is so much influence in their food from all over the world, from France, Mexico and the Caribbean. No it’s not just burgers; this is the place where Paella became delicious Jambalaya. And there is so much to choose from, collard greens, pulled pork, ribs, brisket and coleslaw. Oh and don’t forget the breakfasts, American breakfasts are bloody brilliant! But you end up the size of a large tent! Is this why you came back and went on a diet? Well there were many flashing signs that said we needed to lose weight. For me the first was when I ran out of my blood pressure tablets so I went to see Si because I knew he had the same prescription as me. I stood there and said to Si, “what happened to us” Then a day later an American member of the crew while we were out in filming in Mississippi one day said “You guys continue to take medication to support a lifestyle that got you there in the first place” that was anther turning point, the final was when we both went for a medical my body fat was at 40%, not good. So we came home and did some thinking. Is this the end of naughty food for you? No we still enjoy our naughty food, we believe you can have a little of what you want and still be healthy you just can’t have full fat food all the time, and let’s face it life would be pretty dull if we constantly looked to reduce fat content. To prove it, at the moment we’re working on some recipes for the next series. We’ve never done a crème brulee before and we thought how about a baileys and white chocolate brulee? You see it’s not a diet you can have a little of what you want, just not all the time at every meal!

COLEEN NOLAN BRINGS SOME SPARKLE TO LIVERPOOL
WHAT’S ON
as she prepares for her pantomime role at the Liverpool Empire. What are you doing back in Liverpool? I am really excited to be back, I am playing the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, IU love the theatre here , I love the crowd. I don't know to expect through as I havent's seen a script yet, I hope they write my part with a good sense of humour, I am sure they will. Do you miss Loose Women? No, it was the right time to leave. I did cry, obviously but I have no regrets as I don't miss it How will you be spending Christmas? Well I am working all the way through, i only have Christmas Day off so I will probably be sleeping! No, I plan to rush home to Manchester on Christmas Eve. I love to indulge my children, I spoil them rotten, I mean that is the reason why I work, isn't it, so they have have all the things they want. I love spending on them. I love being mum. Do you read all the gossip columns about yourself? I have to really, don't I, as I write for them. But when I am not writing I don't need to worry about anything written about me You have done so much in your career, what has been a highlight/ Dancing on ice was incredible, I mean I got taught to skate by Torville and Dean, what a privilege. But I havent' skated since,. I mean skating round and round a rink packed with people is boring after you have been thrown about! How did you find Big Brother? Again, an amazing experience. Mentally exhausting as you have absolutelo no idea what is happening in the real world, you are cut off from everything. I am glad I did it, I loved it Would you go into the jungle for I'm a Celebrity? No....although you never know what's going to happen in life so never say never. Tell us about your fashion range at Marisota that you have designed. When I am not working I like to wear jeans and boots, but I am also a big fan of tailored clothing. With big boobs and being the size that I am it's difficult to find anything on the high street so my range is aimed at people like me.

80s POP STAR...
SONIA
by Joy Lewis
I
f you think of the late 80’s early 90’s, you might remember puff ball skirts. You might even admit to committing the crime of having a wet look spiral perm – of course all photographic evidence has since been destroyed. But one thing you definitely can’t avoid remembering is the juggernaut of hit machines, Stock Aitken Waterman. And of course if you remember all that, then you will fondly think of our own princess of 80s and 90s pop, Sonia! She went straight in at no.1 with her first hit single, “Never stop loving you.” I caught up with her to find out if the Hit Factory concert is still going ahead and if there was any truth to the story that at 16 years of age she basically told Pete Waterman to sign her or else!
You have gone down in music history by working with Pete Waterman, what was it like? It was an actual hit factory, a motown situation, everything Pete touched turned to gold. It was a complete frenzy hit after hit. It was fantastic and amazing, all my memories as a teenager is of traveling around Europe, and every day was a different country. It was hard work, but because we were so young we had a laugh too. We all used to hang around together, we were all friends and we used to travel together too. If we stopped at a petrol station we would all jump out to run around and cause mayhem, we had a ball! Imagine the laugh we had travelling the world 1st class! There is an urban legend saying that you walked up to Pete Waterman when you were a teenager and demanded that he signed you, is there even a grain of truth in that old Smash Hits story? No grains! That’s 100% true! He was doing an afternoon show in Liverpool at the hippodrome. And I thought he was the guy I needed, so I took myself there to introduce myself! There were loads of bouncers around him, they tried to stop me but I was dead confident and said “its ok I know him.” So I go over to him, he was eating a burger at the time and had his mouth full, so I didn’t waste a second, I was really cocky, I said listen you have to sign me, or you’re going to lose out! Unbelievably, he said he was looking to sign a female singer and he gave me a shot! And here you are years later marking the 25th anniversary of Waterman's record label PWL. I know the concert, “Hit Factory Live” in Hyde Park was cancelled, has it been rescheduled? I know what a let-down. Over 40,000 people we’re coming from all over the country and the world, we were devastated! There really wasn’t anything anybody could do though because of the heavy rainfall. But good news is the live gig will now be held at London's O2 Arena on Friday, December 21st. I’ll still be performing along with Jason, Rick Astley and Steps and most of the others! Next year we’re looking at taking it internationally. 16 LIFESTYLE
As a veteran pantomimer, Are you doing one this year? Oh Yeah this is my 14th! I think, I’ve done every pantomime and played every part, I love it! This year I’m at the new Epstein Theatre, the old Neptune - It’s Cinderella. I’m playing the Baroness Hardup, Cinderella’s mum, they’re writing the part just for me. Philip Olivier is Buttons and Nikki Graham is the Fairy Godmother. So you’re playing the baddy now? Yeah, I know totally different for me, but it a tongue in cheeck baddy! It runs for 54 performances from Friday 7th December 2012 – Sunday 6th January 2013.

She became a designer through persona tragedy, her brother, an artist, committed suicide and she felt it was her calling to continue his talent. She says, "He was an absolute genius and I used to watch him. I felt a need to carry on creating something worthwhile and beautiful and chose shoes as I love them, they are to me a work of art. Milly J gains inspiration from travelling the globe. She says, "I grew up around the world as my family moved a lot, as a child I lived in Jamaica, Bangladesh, India. The Park Hotel restaurant review by Neil Woods The Park Hotel Aintree has had a fully complete refurbishment and now boasts a brand new fully equipped conference and meeting centre. It also has superb banqueting facilities to suit any occasion from an intimate gathering up to 350 guests. Situated close the World famous Aintree Grand National, its ideal for the business traveller, conference delegate or that well deserved leisure break. Along with The Grand National Bar it houses a recently refurbished A La Carte Restaurant ,which has complimentary parking on site.. We decided to come as a family on a sunday as we had heard tremendous reviews. The new decor is so warm and classy, It is a relaxing and stylish venue and most all you feel very comfortable. We had 6 adults and 3 children in our group we had all come to sample the famous sunday dinner, which apparently the chef had cooked for the stars on the Orient Express,so we knew the meal would be special we were not dissapointed. Most of us opted for the Chef’s homemade soup of the day which was Leek and potato whilst I went for the Creamy garlic mushrooms (absolutely delicious).

REVIEW BY RADIO CITY’S ROSSIE As always Cafe Sports delivers on atmosphere the minute you walk through the doors on Stanley St. As it's Friday I stared with an ice cold San Miguel, Nancy and producer Liam Hinks opted for the Diet cokes.Cafe Sports is such a family orientated restaurant, it's lovely to see dads with kids out having a Friday evening tea. Straight down to business with Cafe Sports signature garlic bread topped with cheese, thin pizza style, then we had a selection of starters, salt and pepper squid, crispy with a smooth tartar sauce really hit the spot, the BBQ'd spare ribs are as good of ribs you're gonna taste, moist, tender and full of tangy BBQ flavour and then my favourite of them all spicy chicken wings. They were by far the best in town in my opinion. I have them every time I visit Cafe Sports and they are consistently great every time. Soup of the day was a very hearty tomato and basil, very tasty and fresh on a crisp autumnal evening. Mains consisted of Penne Carra from the well varied kids menu, this of course is a dish created by the living legend Jamie Carragher Co owner of Cafe Sports, compiled of crispy bacon chicken and tomatoes, it was a big success with the 6yr old terror. Liam had the Spaghetti Blolgnaise with Hearty Meat Balls, healthy but filling and packed with flavour. I had the Sizzeling Chicken Fajhitas, again a firm favourite among the regular patrons . We were too stuffed for desert event though the menu looked temping - Fresh Fruit Sundae, Classic Carrot Cake, Chocolate Fudge Cake or The Banana Split always superbly presented. Melanie our waitress was delightful, as are all the staff here at Cafe Sports, there are some amazing comedy night packages coming to the restaurant in the build up to Christmas, at very reasonable prices. A great night of food, drink and laughter is guaranteed. Well done Cafe Sports Stanley St. For food, service and atmosphere another hat trick is scored. 22 LIFESTYLE

EDITOR’S CHOICE Traditionally a buffet restaurant may not be your first choice, however after visiting the Red Hot World Buffet in Liverpool One there is no reason to eat anywhere else. Why? Because it has the WOW factor at every level. Fantastic and attentive staff, spotless counters and clean plates but best of all, the most amazing selection of delicious and piping hot fresh food prepared by 27 chefs daily. There is something for everyone: Mexican, Indian, Chinese, English and Italian dishes all prepared in front of you with fresh ingredients. Pastas, bread, meat... just a food lover’s haven. Add to that the salad bar, starters from every continent. But let's concentrate on my favourite section, the desserts. They take up a huge corner of the restaurant with towers of sweet dishes, home made cakes, pastries and desserts. The presentation is a stunning as the food is tasty. Red Hot World Buffet has launched a bespoke cake service, for any special occasion they will make especially for you from their stunning collection, to dine in with friends or take away. Choose from Dark Chocolate Truffle Cake, Opera Gateau, Strawberry Cheesecake, Pineapple Passion, Blackforest
Gateau and Caramel Brownie Sensation. Amazing.
“I am ashamed to admit that the idea of a buffet didn’t fill me with excitement before I went. How wrong could I have been. Red Hot World Buffet is by far the best place I have eaten and caters for all the family. There is endless choice for all the children and the manager even brought a selection of dishes - macaroni cheese served in a parmesan basket, chicken tikka and seafood risotto. Utterly delicious and I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough- so much so that Lifestyle Monthly is holding our Christmas party there next month!

MOSQUITO IS BACK WITH A BUZZ! Liverpool’s favourite nightclub has just celebrated a decade of epoch-making club nights in the city. Altogether more sumptuous following a daring makeover, Mosquito re-opened in style with a spectacular weekend of music and entertainment in association with Chase Vodka. Décor updates have transformed the club into a sultry den and the 10th birthday party showcased all it had to offer with a range of eclectic live entertainment, including a sax player, bongos and crazy performers as well as free makeovers courtesy of Illamasqua. The party also saw the introduction of the Vampire Membership scheme, an invite-only club that will give selected members their very own key to unlock the VIP area. Keys are free but you have to be asked, with loyal club-goers top of the list. The VIP room features sweet red blood cells wallpaper combined with the blackest of blacks to create a den any vampire would be proud of. Think black lipstick and lace, stylish flooring, decadent seating and atmospheric purple light. “Mosquito is the place to get bitten with the hedonistic concoction of great music and stylish people for the best night out in Liverpool,” says General Manager Jamie McDiarmid. “Our sumptuous new look is a classic combination of mystery and intrigue, and every weekend we’ll be stepping up the atmosphere to create the ultimate clubnights.” New cocktails, shots and spirits by the bottle complement the sleek, sophisticated look. Guests will be able to enjoy their favourite bottles, including
Belvedere and Laurent-Perrier Rose served straight to their table by their own designated hostess. Throughout Mosquito, up-beat funk, sexy soul, laidback pop classics and rare grooves are the order of the night when it comes to music, with resident DJs keeping the party going into the small hours. Mosquito opens Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8pm. For more information visit: www.mosquitoliverpool.co.uk Mosquito: 15 Victoria Street, Liverpool L2 5QS 29 LIFESTYLE

essicas Ghost is a local band of 6 talented musicians from the fair cities of Liverpool and Manchester. “Losing Track of Time” is their long awaited much anticipated second studio album. It’s taken two years for it to be recorded, mixed and mastered but it’s been worth the wait. In case you are new to this band, their sound is quite a varied but happy marriage of Alt-folk-indie-pop-rock – yes it’s a bit of a mouthful but, rather than worrying about what genre of music this album actually belongs to, its best just to enjoy the sounds created by the 6 musicians. From the very first strum of their guitar you will be hooked on this album! I promise that you will quickly find yourself doing air guitar while singing along and dancing in the kitchen – which funnily enough is exactly what I did! You will be pleased to hear that “Losing Track of Time” has none of those silly meaningless lyrics that leave you scratching your head wondering what on earth the singer is going on about. Every song on this album has a story to tell, be it a moral, lesson learned or how you feel when you experience that first rush of love.
very folk style lyrics asking who is going to watch over you tonight? “A-O” mixes the rock and folk sound perfectly – reminiscent of the Corrs. It’s an intelligent track, with overlapping sounds but makes it no less catchy than the other songs on the album. The finale track “Sinking ships” is a thigh slapping jig that starts with a beautiful harmonica solo. It’s quite Mumford and Sons-esque as it transforms you straight to the deep south and quite strangely gives you the yearning for some moonshine! Every road trip requires a decent soundtrack – you know what I mean – an album full of songs suitable for blaring out of open windows and for singing along to at the top of your voice. Well look no further, this is THE one! We all know of the tricky second album syndrome but never fear, Jessicas Ghost has truly delivered a masterpiece with their second helping “Losing track of Time”.
The first track, “All because of you” is a happy boppy tune with very uplifting lyrics describing that feeling you get when you first fall in love, that nothing short of an apocalypse is going to get you down. It’s about feeling so good that you want to shout it from the rooftops. For me this is the best track, and it sets the tone of the album perfectly. This one is most definitely a hit! “Big City Lights” is another firm favourite, it’s immediately catchy and it had me searching for the lyrics so I could sing along. As the album moves along the music holds the pace but the sound gets slightly heavier as the tone of the lyrics get deeper. To demonstrate, the fourth track, “Jessica” – incidentally nobody in the band actually holds that name - takes on a harder rockier feel, with stronger riffs on top of 30 LIFESTYLE

I showcased my Autumn/Winter 2012 collection on the opening evening at Liverpool Fashion Week. This was my first year doing LFW and although I was nervous it ran smoothly, I was over the moon with the amount of exposure I got for my boutique. I will definitely be doing Liverpool Fashion Week next year. The models were very professional, hair and makeup artists were on trend and the feedback I have had off friends and customers who attended the event were nothing but positive and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Sinitta bought several dresses from me and I have had lots of new customers and orders since the show. Pearl Boutique 15 October 2012 34 LIFESTYLE

My
background was in fashion as I was a window dresser for many years in London, so I’ve always been creative and a good eye for details. I decided to have a change of career later on in my life and it all happened by chance as I was sitting in my local beauty salon, where I saw a lady having a treatment being done. The beautician was leaning over her and I was very curious what she was doing, she told me she was having Semi Permanent makeup. I’d not heard much about this treatment so I went home and did a lot or research. Before you know it, I’m being trained by one of the leaders in the UK. Now here I am a year later working on celebrities and it's incredible how far I have come in such a short time. My speciality is brows: I mainly Specialise in Semi-Permanent Makeup for eyebrows as are most probably the most important feature on the face underestimated by many, sought after by most! The benefits when getting your brows done, is that it gives you a mini Face-lift. By opening the eyes wide and lifting the brow, knocking years of you without going under the knife. Whether your eyebrows are naturally fair, sparse, too short, too thin or even not there at all, I can create natural-

looking, fuller eyebrows using ultrafine individual hair strokes, mimicking the look of natural eyebrow hair. The results give instant year loss by giving back definition, creating elevation and contributing to the facial symmetry and expression. People always ask is in treatment painful and the answer is NO as I use very good Topical Atheistic and most of my clients fall asleep during the treatment. I offer an in-depth consultation so you know exactly what to expect during the treatment and Aftercare information. My favourite celebrity client was Thelma Madine from Thelma's Gypsy Girls. I introduced myself to her on Facebook and showed her some of my before and after photos off my website and my business facebook page (Permanent makeup Lara Johnson) Thelma had a hair stroke brow and this gave her natural brow a new shape and lift she was thrilled with the results. As you can see from the before and after photos what a difference it can make and still remain natural looking.
Brow Treatments Powder Brow A soft and subtle powder pencilled look for those that want to improve the shape of their eyebrows and add definition. This is especially popular amongst blonde clients who wish to achieve a soft hint of colour. 3D Hair Stroke Brow Achieve a natural looking 3-Dimensional hair stroke effect with Semi Permanent Make Up implanted into the shape of tiny hair strokes to mimic your natural hair growth. This Brow looks beautiful when completed and very flattering. Combination Brow This is a combination of the Powder Brow and the 3D brow combined adding depth and hair on the brow a very popular treatment. It suits clients who have who have very little or no hair. Lara is mobile and will travel all over the North West for booking contact her via her website. BEFORE

CULTURE
PHIL REDMOND Phil Redmond, as one of Liverpool’s best known, well loved and successful sons, he needs no introduction – other than to let you know that his memoirs, Mid-Term report has just hit the shelves. You already know it’s going to be a good read, funny, expertly written and controversial, so what are you waiting for? In an interview with Joy Lewis
What made you choose this point in your life to write your memoirs? The timing. Nov 2nd is the 30th Anniversary of Channel 4 and the launch of Brookside. I had resisted offers to write about it before now but my ‘media genes’ felt that if I was ever to do it, now was the time. Never waste a good anniversary! Does Mid-Term Report centre on your whole life so far? Yes, but focuses on what formed and shaped me and how that subsequently led to the creation of Grange Hill, Brookside and Hollyoaks – so no kiss n’tell, but more the fights and arguments on the way to the ‘great Scouse Wedding” that was Capital of Culture 2008…. You have achieved so much how on earth have you remembered everything? I didn’t. It’s amazing how your memory conflates and confuses things, like thinking things happened in a particular order that turns out to be impossible. But most of what’s in the book is about the major, life forming moments in my life. They tend to stick. Some of them I wish I had forgotten and a few were uncomfortable to recall, but I also include a note of thanks in the book to Google. What would we all do without it now? What do you think has been your greatest achievement so far? That’s a hard one. Creating Mersey Television and leaving its legacy as Hollyoaks and Lime Pictures ranks high, but it probably has to be helping to deliver Capital of Culture in 2008 and everything that flowed from that – like becoming Chair of the UK City of culture programme, with Derry-Londonderry being the first in 2013. We are about to launch the competition for 2017 .However, 2008 wasn’t all me but being the face that sold it to the rest of the world was a great and very rare privilege ,as well as being challenging and a lot of fun. I’ve read that this is a two book deal, and the other is coming out next spring and it is a work of fiction. Can you give us a spoiler and tell us what it’s about? I don’t think I can give you a spoiler, but I can give you a tease… as it’s about a small northern town somewhere between Liverpool and Manchester and all the things that affect the lives of the characters there. It’s probably what Brookside would have become if Channel 4 had given us the chance to revamp the programme as they promised. Out of all the TV shows you have written Brookside has got to be my favourite, and it’s soon to be the shows 30th 42 LIFESTYLE
anniversary. What was your favourite story line from the iconic soap? (Mine was the body under the patio!) That’s another hard one as every one of the major storylines had a special reason for being in the programme, but if I was really, really forced to pick one it would probably be a bit surprising, as it would be the Naimph Musgrove literacy storyline, when a 40-something mum who had brought up 4 kids admitted she couldn’t read and write. I write in the book about how I got the idea of Grange Hill while walking into the dole and about how badly a guy in front of me in the queue was treated because he couldn’t even sign his name. I covered it in Grange Hill in 1978. About how kids can get through secondary education without basic literacy skills and I always returned to the theme in all the programmes. But in Brookie, as part of the first National Year of Reading, It led to over 30,00 people and 26 prisons joining the Brookie Basics literacy clinics. We talk a lot in television about ‘influencing people’ but that storyline certainly did and it is still a national disgrace that we are still, over 30 years later, seeing young people leaving school without basic literacy skills – never mind 5 GCSE’s at A-C! Sorry, the campaigning gene is still active…. So what’s next for you? Having done so much in your career, is there anything you haven’t done yet, is there something that you have a yearning to do? Actually, quite a lot, but as there’s also a lot in the book about having to fight people trying to stop me doing what I wanted to do, I’d better not tip them off where I might go next – except the novel. It’s great not having to worry about how much every character and location costs, nor worry so much about the nanny-state regulations that have slowly suffocated a lot of television drama – and you may not be surprised to hear that there’s a bit about that in the book too….

Tell us about the new Liverpool store It is store 14 in the UK, out of 17. It was supposed to be in our top ten but we couldn't find the right venue. It took longer than we wanted to get here, it was essential for us to get the right pitch, we ere offered another store here but it wasn't right for us. Now it is. Why did you choose to showcase at Liverpool Fashion Week? The timing was perfect with the opening of the store and you are the biggest fashion event outside of London. What is so special about Boux Avenue? It is great here, isn't it. Just look around, it is a whole personal shopping experience. We create fabulous lingerie and nightwear that is nicely wrapped, it smells gorgeous and there is attention to detail, the changing rooms are well thought out, we have good mirrors and great lighting to reflect well. Everything is designed with you in mind, the customer in mind to give you a pleasant experience. It is so important for the wpole to come in and go "wow". I mean, we are in the middle of the biggest recession in living history and we are opening more stores. Why do you think Boux Avenue is so popular Bouz is so special, you can pick up beautiful lingerie for ÂŁ10, it's a real treat and it is beautifully wrapped. every customer is given the VIP treatment, we look after everyone of all sizes, going up to an H cup. We offer the right colour and fleshtone for everyone. Boux has been designed with you in mind. Every time you say Boux I think of my dog, Boo who died Oh dear you aren't going to collapse on me are you? How will you be spending Christmas? I am a shopkeeper, I will stay open. As a shopkeeper my work is my way of relaxing. I enjoy shopkeepoing, meeting customers and talking to people. 44 LIFESTYLE
What is the future of Boux? We are opening 3 more stores, our next one will be Glasgow. We are also international, taking the brand round the world. I would like to say everything is created in the UK but we aren't that good. We are good.

Still very excited about my own wedding, venue is booked, I just need to save like crazy now, and that isn’t my strongest point to be fair. One thing I can assure you is it won’t be quite as big as Holly Valance ‘s now Holly Candy’s wedding. Most famously known to me from neighbours (just loved it!) and of course for singing ‘kiss kiss’ and more recently of course she was in Strictly! Holly married billionaire Nick Candy in an LA wedding costing 3 million pounds – now that is showbiz! Holly’s dress was gorgeous she wore an extravagant white gown by J’Aton Couture which had the full meringue style skirt resembling feathers and a bodice like top. She topped it off with a 15ft lace veil in a vintage style which also acted as a train. However guests still had to pay for their own flights and accommodation!! Guests included Simon Cowell, Elton John and Katy Perry, who 46 LIFESTYLE
was actually paid to sing at the wedding a whopping 1.2 million pounds for a 45 minute set (not a bad days pay!) Katy Perry herself seems to be in good spirits, considering it is a year to the date pretty much that she split from Russell Brand. Instead of celebrating her one year anniversary she is having a divorce party! What a difference a year makes! It’s her birthday two days after their anniversary and the last thing she wanted to do was spend that week depressed. Katy apparently decided on throwing a small gathering at her home. She has decided to call it her ‘divorce party’, and it will be a day of doing what she loves with her favourite people.” Robbie Williams and Ayda have welcomed Theodora into the world and how lovely was that picture of Robbie lying down holding her …ahhhh made me all gooey! Not the only celeb baby, congratulations needed also for Reese Witherspoon and new husband Jim Toth on the birth of Tennessee James. Yet again pictures of Reese out and about looking great so soon after giving birth- what is their secret?!! Must not miss out my school friend who has found out she is not only pregnant but expecting Twins OMG ! Exciting stuff ! Not forgetting Adele who must be due very soon……and I hope you are loving as much as me- the new James Bond Theme Skyfall very Bondy! If that makes sense! It just sounds so powerful and glamorous, a perfect choice. I cannot wait to see this movie, its out Oct 26th. Don’t forget your pumpkins! Happy Halloween - mwaaaaahhhhhh
Big hugs xxxx

ALL TREATMENTS Treatments available: • VI Peel • VI Peel Acne • VI Peel Precision The VI Peel will: Improve the tone, texture and clarity of the skin Reduce or eliminate age spots, freckles and hyperpigmentation, including melasma I’ve been a fan of Ellie Goulding ever since her debut album “Lights” but don’t go thinking this is more of the same, because acoustic pop folk, it ain’t! Halcyon is more of a stormy minimalist club dance album, but die - hard fans will be pleased to hear that even though her music style has altered somewhat, her smoky – breathy - raspy vocals still tickle across every track! The opening Track “Don’t Say a Word,” flows with a somber melody,on top of weighty tribal beats, reminiscent of Florence and the Machines. It serves as an excellent opener. However “Anything Could Happen” and the 4th track “Only You”, immediately moves to a faster more upbeat tempo. It quickly reminds you that you are indeed listening to a dance album, and a good one at that! “Figure 8” continues the theme by turning up the nob a bit more giving us a deeper buzzing dubstep bassline. The mood changes once again with “Joy,” “Hanging On” and “Explosions,” this is where the beat slows and an air of melancholy takes over. The lyrics with these tracks show a softer vulnerable side, as she tries to convince someone that their love is worth salvaging. The final track is titled “Dead in the Water.” The first two minutes of the song are a haunting cappella. The song builds instrumentally and vocally, adding in multiple voices and strings. The result is a powerful yet subtle tone, a perfect conclusion to the album. “Halcyon” admittedly needed a few listens, but once I had soaked it up, I loved it. The best tracks for me, and the ones I would strongly advise downloading, are “Anything Could Happen” and “Only You”, as these two songs take the album from quite good to truly sublime! Ellie Goulding is performing on Sat 8th December at the O2 Academy. Tickets are still available. 48 LIFESTYLE

BUSINESS
Do you know what your Employees are up to? It is the responsibility of every Employer to ensure that their Employees are not in any way jeopardising the position of the Business and its reputation. Every email, text, social twitter sent during work hours and through work systems has the potential to cause serious damage to the Business. Strict codes therefore need to be put in place to ensure that your Employees know what is required of them and to set out the boundaries of what can be said using Employer's resources and equipment. The Employee should be invited to agree such terms so that there is no ambiguity. Employers can be held vicariously liable in law for the actions of their Employees and this can include the making of any defamatory comments/ remarks which the Employee may make against a competitor business, for example on a work email or on any social media. Employees should be made aware of the dangers of using such media when making any comments (whether personal or not). Even opinions held in good faith can cause damage to a Business if published during the course of the Employee's employment. Employees are being encouraged more and more to join the likes of Linked in and to express comments about work topics (perhaps about products or services offered by others). Any such involvement should be kept strictly businesslike and all negativity avoided. Linked in must be approached as with any other marketing tool - with caution and thoughtfulness. Employers should also have in place Policies (including training for staff) regarding the downloading of third party content and the use of any copyright material whilst at work. Any infringement and damage or loss caused as a result of the infringement will land at the door of the Employer.

Attitudes are contagious, is yours worth catching? We all know people they walk into a room and the room lights up. You also know the people that walk into a room and a dark cloud of limitations come with them. We all know people that believe the glass is half full. You also know people were the glass is always half empty. We all know people were everything is an opportunity and challenge to overcome. You also know people where everything is a problem. We all know people that believe you get more of what you look for and that’s a GOOD thing. We all know the people that believe problems come in 3's. We all know people who believe we make our own look. You know the people that believe they have nothing but bad luck. We all know people that believe every cloud has a silver lining. We all know people that believe every silver lining is connected to a dark cloud. We all know the people that are always busy making positive things happen You also know the people tell you all the good reasons that something CANT be done. We all know the people that make themselves feel better by building others up. You also know people who feel better about themselves by putting everyone else down. We all know all of these people in and we come across them both in our daily lives. When you meet these people you choose who you want to spend your time with and be around. We all have CHOICES. I believe that you choose to be around the uplifting, inspirational solution thinking people that overcome problems to make their world a better place.
Make sure you have clear Policies in place for Employees to follow and ensure that emails and use of social media sites are properly monitored (where possible) during work hours so as to limit as much as possible the risk to the Business.

As the song goes - Oh what a night! 4th October 2012 at Gusto Heswall was an evening with Beverly Macca.
BEVERLY MACCA How do! November already…can’t belive it! I will be careful where I have a nana nap this year after being taken advantage of last year. Cheeky little madam was doing penny for the guy while I was sleeping, worst thing was she wouldn’t split the profits after!
All proceeds to Katy Holmes trust, as you know I am on team Katy as Ambassador of laughter. Amazing night! Full house and lots of money raised. I arrived to my favourite tune Agadoo on my Bevmobile. I spent the night talking about my life, loves and of course Pound Paradise.
Pound Paradise has our Christmas stock in. Our top seller this year to be Pippa Peg! Fresh in from Korea, why pay Peppa Prices when you can pay Pippa Prices. Order now to avoid disappointment. Well I see a certain Nolan features in this months edition. She featured with me too! I’d popped over to town for a bit of retail therapy at Primarni, needed the ladies room so nipped into the Empire theatre. Just settled in my cubicle, kicked off my Timmy Shoos when the door opened. I could hear someone trumping the tune ‘I’m in the mood for dancing’ next minute a hand comes under my cubicle, fingers full of Lizzy Duke sovereigns and my shoo was gone. I was out of there like a flash, bold as brass outside is Coleen using my Timmy Shoo for the panto publicity shots! Apparantly they’d lost Cinderellas slipper! I was offered free tickets to the Nolans tour to keep quiet.
Well that’s just about me done. Still can’t get used to this being papped, even papped out shopping in my pyjamas the other day. Nothing is sacred anymore. Enjoy Halloween and stay safe on bonfire night. Catch you soon. Bev xxxx

HE'S BOLD, HE'S BRASH, HE'S JUST WHAT LIFESTYLE LOVES...... JAIDEN MICHEAL, THE SELF TITLED, "BRITAIN'S MOST BRUTAL BLOGGER." So its official, I'm Liverpool's hottest magazine's, hottest new columnist! With a reputation that makes Simon Cowell look like Pope John Paul, I thought I'd share to the readers of Lifestyle what's making me cringe each month. But of course I have a real soft side (think Snow White with a skin head and tattoos) so I will be sharing the love for anything that's made me smile.
Welcome to what bugs me or what I think is boss. BUG 1 - Gym heads I am fat, I admit. But you know what makes me want to run out of the gym and straight into a room full of kit kats; annoying gym heads!!! I try and go the gym as much as possible now but I find it hard to do my thing when I’ve got some absolute melt screaming “ooooooosha” every time he pics up a weight, staring round the room to check who is eyeballing him. Good job I have the best of Whitney on my playlist to drown out him and his mates boring convo about “birds n protein kid” And will someone tell me why they wear matching designer clothes to the gym? Some days I simply wake up,roll into my car and wake up on a treadmill STILL sporting my Spongebob pj bottoms and Emily Bishop tshirt. It’s the gym mate, not a nightclub. “You mirrin brah?” No love, the only think I’m admiring is your very toned bum. Thanks. BUG 2 - Rylan Clark
Let’s get one thing clear, I am NOT jealous of Rylan. Yes he is on one of the biggest tv shows and is all over the press but why would I be jealous of someone who can’t sing a single
note, dresses like he was styled by Stevie Wonder and has a face like an inbred turkey everytime Dermott says he’s through to the next round. This idiot isn’t in it for the love of music, this idiot isn’t in it because he wants to be a singer, this idiot is in it clearly because he wants to be famous. He is taking the place of someone who actually dreams of playing Wembley. Instead Rylan just dreams on playing wink murder with the cast of TOWIE. Can’t stand the lad. BOSS 1
- Moniques Bar, Liverpool
I have been involved in the running of nights here for a while now but I’m just so impressed with how well it is STILL doing. So i just wanted to tell everyone else about it this month. The bar is stunning, with a burlesque setting and feel to it, the atmosphere is like nothing else in Liverpool. Not to mention the staff are friendly, professional and hot ;) It’s a celeb hang out if ever I’ve seen one, we have had the likes of Frankie Cocozza there(he defo didn’t sit in my booth) TOWIE cast, my gorgeous friend Chelsee Healey and even The Valleys cast, who I must say were very well behaved! I am really loving being part of the team and recommend a night out to any of my readers!
You should come see me there, I’m in most weekends (not that I can remember half the time) The only problem I have is that they don’t sell my favourite drink... Lambrini. For more info follow @moniqueslpool BOSS 2 - Tyler James ‘A Place I Go’ So the stand out star from BBC show 'The Voice' may not have won(cue the question " who the hell did win???") but Tyler is defo the winner where success is concerned. After smashing the charts with his first release from the album ' Single Tear' Tyler has released a classic album which I predict will also storm the charts. The album is full of heart felt lyrics, soulful ballads with an urban twist and it tells a real story. There isn't a single album filler in site and I'm sure he could release any if these tracks and they would be a mega hit. My personal favourites have to be Single Tear which has been on repeat on my iPod for the last 2months and 'i dont give a damn' which is an absolute corker, sounding a lot like UB40. So if you want a classic BRITISH album and an absolute bargain, get your little fingers over to iTunes now and click BUY! You won't be disappointed. :) Well done Tyler.

IF YOUR HOUSE HAS BEEN ON THE MARKET FOR LONGER THAN YOU EXPECTED... If your house has been on the market for longer than you expected, then making a sale during this financial climate can seem like a frustrating fantasy. So it’s maybe time to think about Plan B – and the best thing about Plan B is that it could work out better for you in the long run. Becoming an ‘accidental landlord’ gives you the opportunity to keep the mortgage payments covered and lets you keep the property to sell for a better price at a later date. But before you think about renting, have you exhausted all your options for improving prospects of selling your house? It’s amazing how many homeowners overlook the small but important touches you can do to improve your chances. A common example of this is photographs of your property. Before you can even think about the sale, you need viewings. Clear, well positioned pictures taken in daylight make a world of difference as opposed to ones taken randomly, that don’t show off your homes features and if taken in the evening, have curtains shut making the rooms look smaller. Simple things like a tidy garden, a clean kitchen and a friendly, honest chat during the viewing helps potential buyers make their decision sooner rather than later. Try moving about furniture and maybe add centrepieces. Neutral colours are a huge play it safe and sometimes uninspiring, so maybe show off what your house can do by giving it a lick of colour for the buyer’s imagination. Another option to think about could be re-pricing it. If your home hasn’t sold at this point, you might want to look around the area at other houses on sale and see what they’re offering. If you’re prepared to slightly undercut those prices and make a small loss, then you’re improving your chances of coming up in searches for budget buyers or buyers that may need a quick sale. But if that’s not proved fruitful, then maybe it really is time to think about becoming a landlord or lady. If you do you’re really not alone, figures from the National Landlords Association (NLA) show that the number of its members who’ve decided to let because they can’t sell a property has risen from 5% 60 LIFESTYLE
with
Julie West, Director of Zest Lets to 7% by the third quarter of last year. This figure is expected to have risen since, as people struggle to sell and rents rise. It’s not as difficult as you may think but there are a number of things you need to seriously consider first. Most importantly, crunch the numbers. Sit down with a calculator and really work it out. If your mortgage payments are £700 a month, but you can only rent it for £500 it might make sense to sell it at a loss. Finding tenants is another part of the process; if you’re prepared to do it on your own they’ll be a lot of heavy lifting so it’ll be easier to use agents. Letting agents will screen tenants and draw up contracts for you to avoid potential future nightmares. When you’re choosing tenants, you also need to think about long-term plans. Do you want tenants who will be happy to have short 6-month contracts or would you like long term tenants who you could offer to sell to once they’ve settled in to your former home? Last but not least don’t forget to take out insurance cover to protect yourself from the risks associated with becoming a landlord. Although most people who become landlords through this way didn’t originally plan on it, it is a fantastic way to keep the value in your property for a sale that you’ll be happy with in the long run.

CRAIG PHILLIPS
DIY expert
Hello Lifestyle readers! I can’t believe how fast the months are going! I have been so busy since October and now that autumn is well and truly with us, I feel like there’s not long left before the pantomime season begins! I have been working all over the country for the past few weeks on lots of exciting projects, and I will be beginning rehearsals for my pantomime role in early December. I had such a great time at the Nottingham Post Sports Awards on 4th October. It was great to see so many amazing sports people and teams win awards for their sporting accomplishments. There were so many inspirational young people who won awards and I think Nottinghamshire has a very bright future ahead of it. It was brilliant that so many local businesses, colleges and universities sponsored the awards and there was a real feeling of community spirit. I really enjoyed entertainment from the evening’s hosts Willie Thorne and Emma Jesson, as well as some soulful musical classics from Andy Abraham to round the night off. I am still continuing my work with the fantastic paint company, Wagner Spraytech. They provide ground-breaking painting solutions for both interior and exterior tasks. I really enjoy working with them and their products allow anyone to get a really professional finish, every time they paint. I appeared with them on the Ideal World shopping channel, showcasing the products so that everyone can achieve the paint finish they want. They proved to be really popular and it was a great experience to appear with them! I’m sure we’ve all noticed the sudden drop in temperature. I’ve certainly found that as more leaves fall from the trees and the thick fog of autumn rolls in, I want to be as warm possible. Whether I’m out and about, working outdoors or just relaxing at home, I make sure that I’ve got my Heat Holders socks on! They’re incredibly warm and soft, with a long looped pile, soft brushed inner and an amazing tog rating of 2.3. They really are the perfect partner for cold feet, and I never have to worry about chilly toes ruining my concentration on a difficult job, or spoiling a great day outside. I’ve got plenty of exciting events coming up over the next few months and I can’t wait to share all that I’ve been up to with you in my next column. As always I have included one of my DIY tips to help you get safe, professional results at home so no more DIY disasters! All the best, Craig.

Fitting wall brackets to store your garden tools. Wherever you keep your garden tools, it’s important to keep them organised. This not only saves time and trouble but also creates a safe working environment in which your tools can be maintained and protected STAGE ONE Start by selecting the garden tools which require organising and purchase a suitable bracket for each of these tools from your local garden centre or DIY store. Once you have selected a location for your first tool, hold the bracket in position and use a spirit level to ensure it is straight. Mark with a pencil to show where you will need to make holes, remove the bracket and prepare to drill. Drill a pilot hole into the walling of the wooden shed using a 18v drill and 3mm drill bit (if you are drilling into a garage brick wall you will need to use a masonry drill bit and apply a plug into the brickwork beforehand). STAGE TWO Next, screw your bracket into the wall either by hand or using a drill driver set to the screw setting. Once the bracket has been firmly secured to the wall you are ready to hang your first tool. Repeat for each tool, measuring a suitable gap between each bracket..

Check out the Caught on Canvas page on our website at www.eadsolicitors.co.uk or visit our Facebook page to see some of the entries we’ve received so far. So, if you think you’ve got what it takes to snap a truly unique picture, email your entry to marketing@ eadsolicitors.co.uk with details of where it was taken and you could be the proud owner of a brand new Amazon Kindle Fire worth £130. It really is as simple as that. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and get snapping.
Good luck! 64 LIFESTYLE
