AUTOBIOGRAPHY W

How do you write an autobiography?

Decide which part of your life you want to start from and end... (The childhood that shaped you? The start of a relationship that changed you? The trauma that moved you? The successes that empowered you? The job you walked away from to pursue your dream?) Write a list of the essential themes and stories around this, the emotions you experienced and how they impacted your life. Focus on key turning points that will resonate 6

with your readers. Write a brief bullet list of events in chronological order. Draft scenes from your life and describe them illustratively, such as meeting your best friend, giving birth, breaking a bone, listening to your favourite piece of music for the first time, waking up in a new country for the first time.

What is the purpose of your autobiography? To share your story? To inspire others? To fulfil a personal ambition? How will it end? By giving it to AmandamossPR to help you create it, publish it and promote it. Email amanda@ amandamosspr.uk or WhatsApp 00357 97827636.

Piece them all together with emotion and humour. www.amandamosspr.uk

ennis is currently residing in Poland, with his girlfriend, he has decided to move to Cyprus because he says, like so many people, it’s a very special place for him, saying, “I can’t describe the feeling but somehow I feel home there.” Dennis has been practicing hypnosis since 2013 when he got his first certificate with hypnosis and coaching. Since then he has studied for two more courses specializing in hypnosis therapy. He says, “I don’t specialise in any particular type as I do not want to limit to specific areas, I believe everybody is entitled to get help when they finally make the decision to get it. It can be everything from having a problematic time of life to wanting to perform better at work or in sports.“ Hypnotherapy, also referred to as guided hypnosis, is a form of psychotherapy that uses relaxation, extreme concentration, and intense attention to achieve a heightened state of consciousness or mindfulness. In other words, it places the individual into a “trance” or altered state of awareness.

This form of therapy is considered alternative medicine with the purpose of utilizing your mind to help reduce or alleviate a variety of issues, such as psychological distress, phobias, and unhealthy, destructive, or dangerous habits such smoking and/ or drinking). The aim of hypnotherapy is to create a positive change in an individual, while they’re in a state of unconsciousness or sleep.

So how can hypnotherapy help people? Hypnotherapy helps by removing/accepting many kinds of situations in life, it can be everything from depression and anxiety to performance at work or in sports.

Psychoanalysis yields a 38% effective recovery rate after 600 sessions. Behavior Therapy yields a 72% effective recovery rate after 22 sessions.

Cyprus has made significant improvements eliminating human trafficking

J

udith Garber, US ambassador to Cyprus, has praised the hard work of all members of the antitrafficking community in Cyprus. In its assessment of the government’s improvements, the ambassador emphasised that traffickers were convicted for the first time in three years. The government convicted 10 traffickers under the trafficking law, four for sex trafficking and six for forced labour. Judges sentenced one trafficker to eight years’ imprisonment, two traffickers to two years’ imprisonment.

However more must be done to prevent lenient sentences from being handed down, pointing to judges having sentenced four traffickers with only a three-year suspended sentence and one trafficker with a fine of €14,950. The report added: “Such lenient sentences undercut efforts to hold traffickers accountable, weakened deterrence, created potential security and safety concerns for victims, and were not equal to the seriousness of the crime.” The profile of the human trafficking victims identified in Cyprus during the past year

varied widely – with nationals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Nigeria, Romania, Russia, and Syria. In previous years, victims were also from Cameroon, China, Czechia, Ethiopia, Greece, India, Moldova, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. Traffickers subject women, primarily from Eastern Europe, South and Southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa, to sex trafficking. It found that sex trafficking occurs in private apartments and hotels, on the street, and in bars, pubs, coffee shops, massage parlors, and cabarets known for the availability of commercial sex. “Traffickers exploit short-term tourist visas available to Ukrainian and Russian nationals to recruit young women for sex trafficking in bars and private establishments and recruit some female sex trafficking victims with false promises of marriage or work as barmaids or hostesses,” the report added. If you think someone has been trafficked then please call the hotline 1497 to rescue these people and help stamp it out.

Anastasia Mexa Travelife Approved global auditor

M

eet Anastasia Mexa, of Greek origin from the beautiful island of Corfu, based in Cyprus, who is one of approximately 60 Travelife for Accommodation Approved global auditors, thus visits properties to conduct an audit against the Travelife

18

Standard. Those that meet the standard receive a Travelife Certification, showing their commitment to responsible tourism. Travelife for Accommodation is an internationally recognised accommodation sustainability programme that works with leading

UK and European tour operator members to promote Travelife certified Members. In over 50 countries it has around 1,500 members who use Travelife’s practical tools and resources to improve their business’s environmental, economic and social

impact. Containing a range of criteria that assess accommodation performance in the areas of human rights, labour, community engagement and environmental impacts, Travelife for Accommodation is a GSTC recognized standard. She has undergone an intensive training programme in order to audit with the company and must complete annual refresher courses to maintain standards. The multi lingual mother of two, specialises in sustainability, health and safety and food safety and hygiene. Anastasia has worked in the hotel sector for more than 20 years, experiencing first-hand how travel trends and hotel operations have changed over the years, namely the need to adopt more sustainable practices. Especially in Cyprus where the country relies on tourism, and therefore needs to be preserved for longevity. After studying labour and human rights in Corfu, Anastasia started her hotel career in 2000 when she moved to Cyprus and worked as a quality coordinator for a 5-star hotel. This led to a greater understanding of the various standards hotels should be meeting across health and safety, quality control and environmental management. She qualified as an internal auditor for various ISO standards in these fields and eventually trained as a lead ISO standards auditor, while is also an approved

adults vocational trained by the Cyprus Human Resources Development Authority. A few years ago she also obtained her Hotel Management Diploma which sealed her education in the field. She says the first step is to identify all areas and practices to be improved, remembering that sustainability is not only energy, water and waste management. Do not forget your people, your stakeholders, labour and human rights, animal welfare and community integration. The next step is to set your sustainability vision and policy, then integrating this into all of your business planning by setting SMART sustainability goals, with progress being regularly monitored and evaluated. However, she believes that commitment and passion are the two most important factors. That means committing to achieving your goals and engaging your staff and other stakeholders, such as guests, so that they become passionate advocates of all your business is trying to achieve. Her final piece of advice is for businesses to look beyond all the paperwork and consider the Travelife for Accommodation audit process as an opportunity for further improvement, viewing their auditor as a stakeholder who shares the same vision as they do. When I saw that Travelife Accommodation was looking for new auditors

I did not hesitate... it was another chance to promote sustainability and to help create a world where every human has access to basic resources, that are managed so they never run out, all whilst helping boost economic wellbeing.” I am in love with our planet and mother Earth and everything we are being provided. We are blessed and we need to treat Earth as we treat our children. We should always remember as an old Indian proverb sais that we haven’t inherited the Earth from our ancestors, we have just borrowed it from our children… I love assisting businesses in their sustainability journey and I feel proud watching them grow while sustainability is amongst their main strategic targets. People’s culture might be the greatest challenge beyond conflicting legislative requirements and lack of infrastructure, however I can see our youngsters being more and more sensitive and businesses adopting further sustainability in their day to day operations. Sustainability is also part of my day to day role which apart from my job, includes my own family, the raising of 2 boys who are ready to explore life through their uni studies, looking after 17 cats, 3 tortoises until they are strong to be back in the nature, participating in many charitable events. I must admit I am blessed and never thought I’d be so fulfilled in my life.

FITNESS

Personal trainer, Papa Luckman, who is running his first bootcamp in Cyprus this autumn, has set up a sports specific training for Speedway racers.

The adrenaline pumping sport means the riders have to be in top physical and mental shape in order to navigate the course and control their bikes. Papa Luckman, 46, has developed what he believes is the first free fitness programme with specific sessions aimed to get the heart rate at the same rate as it would be when riding, His training helps the body cope with the physical demands through developing lean muscle mass to increase physical strength needed. Sports Specific Training also develops mental strength to cope with the stress of riding at 70mph with no brakes. It also helps the body cope better with crashes and injury recovery. He said, “ I analysed the demands placed on a Speedway rider and design Sports Specific training session to simulate a typical race meeting. If you want to be a sprinter you train to run fast, if you want to improve your performance on a Speedway bike you train for 4-5 one minute races in the right Heart Rate Zones. A speedway race starts with a 2-minute time allowance siren for riders to be up at the starting line. A rides heart rate will increase.

To simulate this, I get riders to perform various exercise to raise the heart rate. The race then starts and rider perform high intensity exercises to get their heart rates to their max. At the end of a race, riders return to the pits, so to calm everything down low intensity exercises are completed to recover. Unlike other motorcycle sports, Speedway bikes have NO BRAKES with 4 riders racing around an oval dirt track at speeds of up to 70mph in one minute. Speedway bikes are powered by a 500cc engines that runs off methanol. The art of Speedway is to powerslide around the bends going anti clockwise around the track, only turning left. Bikes accelerate of the start line faster than a Formula 1 car…….it is a dangerous adrenaline filled sport in which he says, “the only skill you need is to be able to twist the throttle and a big set of……” He first became involved with the sport when he was 11 years old, my dad took him to a World Semi Final at Odsal Stadium, home of Bradford Dukes. He said, “I asked my dad if it was dangerous and he said that it can be. On the first race and all four riders crashed into the first end. In those days there was no safety air fences… …I have loved the sport ever since. It is a fantastic vehicle to develop interpersonal skills no matter what the sport it. Speedway is a tough and dangerous sport so riding a bike with no brakes gives you that extra edge.”

His ambition is to train some of the top riders in the UK Leagues and then his sessions to Poland where Speedway is their national sport. In addition, he has launched his first global fitness bootcamps, with the first one taking place in September in Cyprus. He said, “Sometimes it’s good to get out of your comfort zone and go somewhere entirely different so you can focus on the task in hand. My bootcamps enable you to do just that, giving yourself breathing space from your usual routine to concentrate on yourself. I will improve your mind set, body and soul over the four days, showing you how to break bad habits and create a new, healthier lifestyle so you can start living the life you love.” For more details on the Cyprus fitness bootcamp go to: www.papaluckmanfitness.com Follow me on Instagram and Facebook: @papaluckmanfitnessgroup

GREEK GINS Renowned around the world for its food, sun-soaked islands and historical sites, Greece is our ‘Big’ sister in terms of Hellenic history. Although its production of gin dates back nearly 100 years, recently its journey into the field of Mediterranean gin has been met with excitement. There are more than 300 distilleries in Greece and in recent years a small number of these have begun to start producing gin, often with wonderful Mediterranean flavours and utilising native Greek botanicals. Mataroa Mediterranean Dry and Pink Gins

Melissanidis Distillery was founded in 1924, so we weren’t even born when it was created! The distillery has had a great history, creating Ouzo Archontiko (since 1924), and Tsipouro Archontiko (since 2016). The production of gin requires the same

22

distilling means as Ouzo, and follows essentially the same process, except for the basic herb: in ouzo anise is used, and in gin it's juniper.

Stanna Wieclawska Kyriakou

Greek Mastic from the mastic trees of South Chios. It is balanced, smooth and definitely Mediterranean! The pink influence of hibiscus and pomegranate is very subtle, and Very moreish. My favourite way to drink it is as a Mediterranean Purple: Indian tonic water, a small lavender sprig and orange zest. Mataroa’s 12 Ingredients come from 11 Mediterranean countries - one from each country, and two ingredients from France: Juniper Berries (Croatia), Angelica Root and Lavender (France), Coriander Seeds (Tunisia), Orris Root (Italy), Bay Leaf (Syria), Licorice (Turkey), Orange Peels (Spain), Lemon Peels (Egypt), Mandarin Peels (Morocco), Chamomile (Cyprus), and of course, unique

Grace Gin

Grace Gin was launched in 2017 by LKC Drinks and is the creation of three Greek friends, Lila, Hara and Katerina. The gin is distilled at Avantes Distillery on the island of

herbs. Long aftertaste with spicy notes. Spectacular neat or over ice.

Votanikon

Evia, first using traditional botanicals before adding further botanicals including orange blossom, pink pepper, rock samphire, and myrtle leaves. This is a special Gin with particularly Greek aromas. Produced in small quantities using the traditional distillation method and techniques of highly qualified perfumers, Grace Gin has complex aromas, where the juniper dominates in perfect equilibrium with the unique sea fennel, myrtle flowers and the mastic tree. It is crystal clear on the palate, robust, filled with intense clarity in a unique blend of fresh citrus and orange blossom with the other

Votanikon is an excellent gin with a complexity rarely seen in a ‘budget’ gin. This highlights the botanical heritage and distillation experience of Greece. Created from a combination of 20 aromatic herbs such as mountain tea from Olympus, basil and dittany from Crete, juniper from the mountains of Macedonia, Kozani saffron, Chios mastic, citrus and chamomile from the Peloponnese, oregano from Mani and sage from Amorgos, guarantees explosive and complex aromatics. It is iIncredibly soft and smooth on the palate, with a rich, impressive volume.

NOTES AND REFLECTIONS OF A WOMAN CREATING HER BEST LIFE Stefania Bongiovanni Do you know what a mantra is? In Hinduism, a mantra is a formula that is repeated many times as a meditation practice. Practice and repetition make perfect, they say. Indeed it is scientifically proven that our brain records what it sees, hears or reads repeatedly. If we want to get rid of our limiting beliefs and reprogram our mind with a new, winning, successful mindset, we can use this simple technique. All we have to do is create our own affirmations or mantras, and repeat them as a daily practice. Every day write and repeat positive affirmations about yourself and what you believe or want to achieve. Start the sentence with verbs that express a positive feeling, like in these examples: I am worthy and I am enough. Wealth, success and abundance are my birthrights.

28

I choose to improve myself every day and I welcome change into my life, because this leads me to creating the best version of myself. I know that I can accomplish whatever I want and reach my goals with ease. I am resilient and I turn challenges into opportunities. I don’t chase, I attract. I give the Universe full permission to make all my manifestations happen for me. I let go of thoughts, feelings and emotions that are not of service to my highest good. Everything I desire is on its way because it is already mine. Just be careful and keep in mind that there are two sides of everything: for the reason said above, also the repetition of negative and false thoughts about ourselves make them take root in us. I am not able to ..., I am a failure, I am

not worthy of love, I am always unlucky, anything I do goes wrong, I’m not beautiful enough... These are all self-sabotaging affirmations! Is this maybe the reason why your manifestations are not coming into fruition? Just saying... ;-) Instead, choose to operate a mindset shift towards positivity, build your self-esteem through the daily affirmations, and get ready to welcome magic into your life! So now, gorgeous, just go out there and start living your best life! Who am I? I’m an Italian living in Cyprus and loving it crazily. My name is Stefania Bongiovanni, some of you will know me as the founder of The Girlfriends’ Circle, but as well as the woman who believes in #sisterhood and in #womensupportwomen.

The Soul Food Store, released in April, is their second album, and has reached the number one position in the Blues charts with the debut released in 2019, GOTTA GET HOME, reaching number one in the Amazon charts. has received acclaimed reviews and secured a place in the Blues charts. Released into our world at the time when gigs and live music returned to venues and stadiums, it can easily be labelled a celebratory album. It’s an elevating, colourful, energetic crowd pleaser filled with an array of soul, funk, blues, and rock vibes. Its fresh and unique, delivered with a desire to express Matt’s musical knowledge, passion and skill. The album’s blues rock up-tempo opener, ‘Got a thing going on’ is an uplifting song brimming with positive good vibes. It has you moving and grooving before the first chorus and the strong lyrics are a positive lift off to the eleven-track album. The following ten songs pleasantly feature a variety of musical influences including the

likes of The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Carlos Santana, and others. There are short songs and some long purposeful songs, with vintage rock, funk and blues and some Latino and gospel traces. It really is an incredible and rainbow filled album which I’ve have on repeat! There are stunning guitar works, riffs and melodic solos, strong sax, soulful and expressive vocals from smooth and mellow to upbeat and blues infused. With the beautifully constructed arrangements, the result is an album full of foot stomping, finger snapping and rhythmic bliss … its rocky, its bluesy, dreamy …funky and groovy! Matt describes the approach to the album as ‘pick n mix’, with the aim to keep the listeners interested and wanting more. By adding little tricks to the songs like horns, bongos, shakers, and small harmonies coming in unexpectedly, hence adding spice to the songs and ‘‘became the glue to making

the songs complete.’’ This musician proves himself as a musical magician demonstrating his ability as a singer, songwriter, master of guitar, producer, and a soul feeder. What can’t he do?? There really is a thing going on in this album… it’s a superstore

overflowing with music, a musical happy pill for all! So, order it, stream it, buy a hard copy for your collection, and then delight in its musical pleasures! I also must add that Matt frequently visits Cyprus, so if you see his name pop up, make sure to go along and see him. Cheers!
