LEGAL ASSISTANCE

Bernadette McDonald, of BMD:Law Tell us about your legal school? We’ve

opened the Liverpool School of Legal Education because the whole way we train solicitors has changed. The law degree and LPC has gone, so paralegals can now qualify and there’s a Solicitor’s Qualification exam so it’s more hands on with two years of experience as opposed to seven years of qualifications. This has given us a bit more of an opportunity to be innovative. We’ve trial runned the school with the courts to see what works and what doesn’t, so we’ll be taking people from school leaving age and turning them into paralegals with 12 week courses, we’re supporting people who are already working as paralegals in law firms going for a SQA contract because they won’t be given any training, it’s just for them to acquire experience. Acquiring experience is easy but recognising 2

what you’re learning from a formal point of view and document it, that is different, so we’ll be offering courses to support that. We have a mixture of online and in person courses based at our premises here and of course using the law firm here as a way of getting practical experience so it blends the both. And to ensure I have enough work to give them I am very excited too do something that I’ve waited to do for years which is pro bono business clinics for small businesses who don’t want to waste their money on law firms in the beginning because they need all their resources. So we’ll be using the students to give them advice, supervised of course, for all new businesses. This means a lot as I want to give back to the business community.

I am taking the best of law and best of business to combine it to improve the future of legal professions. I’ve invested quite heavily in the tech, so it’s not just lectures, there’s a lot of videos and handouts and interactive learning, quizzes, to mix it up to keep people engaged. I wrote all the courses, spending the last few months taking the design of business philosophy how we design law firms itself and integrate them into a very legal way of thinking. So I have taken a lot of different concepts and places and put them all together for a very bespoke course.

I recently got a new tattoo, it isn’t until my late 40s that I discovered my love of ink. Having grown up in a stuffy, judgemental environment where tattoos were looked down upon, I can’t tell you how liberating and awesome it was to get one on my arm. I spotted the mural of a tiger on the clubbing strip and I absolutely love it, it represents my love of dancing, freedom and of course a tiger is fierce and not to be messed with. A bit like me.

S WOMEN IN BUSINES

Entrepreneur and mother of four Christine Blackledge Crowle Want to live your dream life? Entrepreneur and mother of four Christine Blackledge Crowle is doing that and wants to help you live yours in the sun. Based in Paphos but serving the whole island, Christine will help you move home, find a job and set up a business as well as introducing you to new friends, schools and colleges and much more so that you can start living the lifestyle you deserve. Christine says, “The dream began 11 years ago when I became a life coach. It took me this time to move to Cyprus but I don’t want it to take that long for other people. I want to show them how they can do it quicker. I made the decision in 2020 to leave the UK. I wanted to go somewhere safe and warm and beautiful. I asked myself, what is it that your heart always wanted? The kids are growing up, it is so much a freer life and I want to help people do the same. It is good to have a coach as they know what you really want. “I transfer their life here, for example if they want to know a school I can investigate for them” Christine offers relocation coaching packages for her clients to assist not just with the practical side of relocation but also to help with those wanting coaching 3 months or 12 months, depending on their needs, to include helping them move as well as continuing support for when they arrive. She says, “I look for people in the UK looking to move, or people here thinking ‘what do I do?” Because I have been able to set up my business here, I want to teach people how to set up a business for themselves and what type of business they want to do. I help them transition from UK, offering a whole life changing package.” 6

Christine is extremely well qualified to coach, she is an inspirational rags to riches tale of success, pennilessly fleeing an abusive relationship to building multiple successful businesses. She takes a holistic attitude to living and has shared a stage with her idol, Tony Robbins, at one of his conventions. She says, “Although I specialise in healthcare, I do everything,I transform business from UK to Cyprus because the advantages of living here are stronger than in UK, not simply about lifestyle but health as well and financial. Plus I collaborate with other businesses so people can live their best life as they possible can. Networking is key for success and Christine has events lined up throughout the year across Paphos and Limassol. Christine says, “I run them online and also have live events scheduled across the island. People are starting to think about their future and they can use the pandemic to their advantage.” So how has life changed for Christine since she moved to Cyprus? “My life has changed beautifully,” she enthuses, “The weather is nice, I’ve met some lovely friends and good business associates as well which is welcome. I can honestly say that my life has improved, health wise dramatically. I had a heart condition and now everything is clear, it is reversed.” Alongside her coaching Christine is also an established gin connoisseur and chefin Christine’s holistic kitchen which are added benefits to her coaching skills.

She says, “In business it’s not about one thing, it good to be holistically helping people improve their lives in all areas, In the UK people are so busy rushing around being busy fools and but there’s no need. I do holistic cooking, food good for the heart, vegan veg and chicken and fish. I offer cookery classes to cater for everyone, they’re on zoom classes and are as healthy as possibly to help our families live as long as possible. I just people to reach their full potential.” Look at businesses they can do Whilst there is a perception that the job market is suffering in Cyprus, Christine is quick to point out that the economy is flourishing for ex pats. “I can create jobs,” she says, “There are so many jobs we can do even though online there is someone who needs our service. And working in a certain job as manager or leader in the UK and wants to move here, that is a strength and I look at transferring their skills here.” Christine is all about working smarter. “It is key to have team of people to help you with your dream. I launched our franchise last year and am pushing that so I have to keep moving,it’s not just an experience background, but I have passion and that’s what drives me.” ‘This year I see it as wonderful challenge. The pandemic should be a propellor to push you to make your dreams come true.”

RT COMMUNITY SUPPO Lifestyle chats to Liverpool based John Burton, founder of Inside Connections, which has offices in Liverpool, the West Midlands and London “WE ARE DEFINED BY WHO WE ARE TODAY AND NOT WHO WE ONCE WERE”

I

nside Connections was formed in 2017 to provide services and support to businesses and education facilities, offering access to training leading to sustainable employment. As an ex criminal John turned his life around and helps others do the same. Since then they’ve helped thousands of people, with over 100 employers engaged. He says, “I was raised on a Liverpool council estate in the 1970s. The streets were riddled with drugs and crime in a deprived Britain at the time, particularly the north. We never had much growing up. The ones who had the nice clothes, watches and cars rom the area

10

weren’t coming out of a good education in a well-earned job, that was unheard of. It was the drug dealers and criminals. In the environment I get up in there was only two choices. Educations wasn’t really an option, it was selling drugs and making money or take drugs and lose everything. Heroin was rife, I didn’t want that for me so I got into criminality at a young age, heroin being one of the things I wouldn’t sell. In 2017 I was released from prison after serving a second prison sentence for 6 out of 12 years for money laundering and the transportation of

cannabis, cocaine and amphetamines worth millions, around the UK. The last part of my sentence I served 19 months as a category D prisoner in the Isle of Sheppey, which was a 540 mile round trip for a one hour visit for my family. Witnessing my young family struggle because of something I had done was a major factor for my rehabilitation and resettlement and I needed to do something about it. I set up a website and mobile app aimed at prisoners, their families, victims of

crime, communities, key services and support partnerships to prevent offending and reoffending. Secondly I set up a Community Interest Company and trust fund aimed at offering supported care services for the most vulnerable in society. For example those exiting the prison system, care home or military systems and young offenders.

looking, open minded and with a global reach. I put families and communities back at the heart of reform and rehabilitation through carefully considered -and delivered- support care programmes and housing, education, training and job opportunities. I believe that we need to support these individuals

who want to grasp another chance at life. If I can change my life and help others for the better, by guiding the most vulnerable along a path that leads away fro crime, then that must be a good thing.” For more information go to insideconnections.co.uk or call 0800 680 1676

To say that I am passionate about reform and rehabilitation is an understatement. I witnessed first hand the changes within the UK prison system; prisoners, prison officers and staff struggling under the weight of an ageing and antiquated criminal justice system. But also the families and victims struggling on the outside. My aim is to support the 45% of 16-18 year olds released from the care home system and who immediately go onto commit crimes and end up in prison. Prevention is better than cure. I designed the Inside Connections app to be totally outward 11

ENTERTAINMENT

Lifestyle columnist and Liverpool Live Radio presenter CLAUDINE HOPE Hi lovely readers It’s been an emotional roller coaster for me since last month. My partner’s father died very recently and it has been incredibly hard and upsetting for the family. I try to give as much support as I can during this time and feel extremely fortunate to have known Steve Thomas. He was 74 years old, a well respected man who was Staff Sergeant in the TA 234 squadron RCT. My love and thoughts go to Bett, Stephen, Allison and Pippa. Back at Liverpool Live Radio I have been busy with Roy Basnett talking showbiz gossip and telling the listeners about the upcoming castings and auditions to get onto television. I was thrilled to tell everyonethe news of a very kooky family that is coming to the Empire Theatre this month! Yes, you guessed it, the smash hit Broadway

12

days!

musical comedy “The Addams Family” will be moving into Liverpool for five

I caught up with musical theatre and television actress Kara Lane ,who plays the part of Alice Beineke in the show. Australian born Kara told me that her character in the show and her son Lucas Beineke played by Ahmed Hamad are a normal respectable family unlike the Addams. Wednesday Addams falls in love with her son Lucas, an overly sweet and normal boy. But things become crazy when the two families meet for a fateful dinner with hilarious consequences? Kara told me the show’s sets are extravagant with

amazing costumes and slick choreographed routines. Andrew Lippa’s musical comedy is based on a book by Jersey Boys creators Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. The Addams Family is a must see show and tickets are available now through the Liverpool Empire Theatre website. The musical runs from 8th until the 12th March. Look out for me in next month’s Lifestyle Magazine where I will be interviewing some more celebs. Catch me on the Liverpool Live Radio. www.liverpoolliveradio.com Instagram: claudine_hope_ See you next year Babes!

EASE ANXIETY We live in a world with everything available to us instantly, we have entertainment 24/7 and whatever information we need at our fingertips. Everything we could ever want is right in front of us yet anxiety is at all time high. What triggers it?

I

t is usually the build up pf smaller stressful life situations, like a relationship break up, moving house, ongoing financial struggles or an impending big event. Anxiety can be caused by a variety of things: stress, genetics, brain chemistry, traumatic events, or environmental factors. Symptoms can be reduced with anti-anxiety medication. But even with medication, people may still experience some anxiety or even panic attacks. Here’re some ways to alleviate anxiety: 1. Exercise If you’re feeling stressed, moving your body on a consistent basis may help. Many other studies have shown that engaging in physical activity helps reduce stress levels and improve mood, while sedentary behavior may lead to increased stress,

16

poor mood, and sleep disturbances. If you’re currently inactive, start with gentle activities such as walking or biking. Choosing an activity that you enjoy may help increase your chances of sticking to it in the long term. 2. Follow a healthy diet Minimizing your intake of highly processed foods and drinks, eating more whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, beans, fish, nuts, and seeds can help ensure that your body is properly nourished. 3. Minimimise screen time Smartphones, computers, and tablets are an unavoidable part of everyday life for many people. While these devices are often necessary, using them too often may increase stress levels.A number of studies have linked

excessive smartphone use and “iPhone addiction” with increased levels of stress and mental health and sleep disorders. 4. Take supplements Several vitamins and minerals play an important role in your body’s stress response and mood regulation. As such, a deficiency in one or more nutrients may affect your mental health and ability to cope with stress. 5. Practice self care Taking time for yourself is essential in order to live a healthy life.It doesn’t have to be elaborate or complicated. It simply means tending to your well-being and happiness. •

going for a walk outside

taking a bath

lighting candles

reading a good book

exercising

preparing a healthy meal

stretching before bed

getting a massage

practicing a hobby

using a diffuser with calming scents

6. Reduce your caffeine intake Caffeine is a chemical found in coffee, tea, chocolate, and energy drinks that stimulates your central nervous system. Consuming too much may worsen and increase feelings of anxiety. 7. Learn to say no Taking control over your personal life may help reduce stress and protect your mental health. One way to do this may be to say “no” more often. This is especially true if you find yourself taking on more than you can handle, because juggling many responsibilities may leave you feeling overwhelmed.Being selective about what you take on — and saying “no” to things Plus, creating boundaries — especially with people who add to your stress levels — is a healthy way to protect your wellbeing. This can be as simple as asking a friend or family member not to visit or canceling standing plans with a friend who tends to create drama.

ARTIST

Meet Catt Kyriacou, owner of Soul Art and Jewellery by Katka

O

riginally from Liverpool, Catt planned to travel the world after graduating from university. Her first stop was Cyprus and she fell in love with the island, with all its natural beauty, stories of Aphrodite and the churches.

“I loved the churches,” she enthused. She was later baptised and settled on the outskirts Ayia NAPA. Catt said “I took the short cut to where I was

meant to be! Cyprus has a special light and beauty and I felt spiritually connected to this country, like I was supposed to be here. It’s a healing place.” Before she had her family, she was painting murals and nightclub walls, then stayed at home with her two young daughter and painted canvases, before turning her talents to making bespoke jewellery, setting sea shells in beautifully decorated copper wiring. She said, “ I was walking along the beach one day with a special friend who picked up a shell and gave it to me. I’d been having a difficult time and I am a sentimental soul so as an artist I saw something in the shell, it was very significant. I put it in my purse and it was the first shell I

copper, just to preserve and remember it’s significance and that special day. Later it gave me the idea to make shell jewellery and the business grew from there.” “I love wire wrapping. I did 3D design at university (wood, metal, ceramics and glass) and I specialised in metal work later working with wire. My tutor at the time said he hadn’t seen wire used in this way before! I created mainly wire clocks and sculptures. They were exhibited in the UK for two years but I stopped whilst painting in Cyprus. When Covid started in March and we were locked down I said a prayer one night for inspiration and asked to be shown a way forward.

The next day I woke up with the idea to make jewellery and I wrapped MY shell after that. I spent two years in lockdown making jewellery, learning new techniques and experimenting with designs, preparing to launchon aninternational stage. My pieces sell on average for 200 euros a piece and are all unique, no two designs are the same.” Catt added, “I love working in copper, it’s a beautiful and versatile metal and is a big part of cypriot history. In fan the Greek name for the island is “Kupros” which is derived from the word for copper.”

HOROSCOPES ARIES (21 MARCH–19 APRIL)

This month will see expansion through philosophy, travel or education. It promotes the flow in your life so that things are easier than they have been in the past. You will find ways to express your unique identity in the outer world, preferably while promoting social justice. TAURUS (20 APRIL – 20 MAY) You will be preoccupied in issues ranging from the mundane study of the budget to important discussions with partners over the need for greater intimacy. You may be organising business issues related to an inheritance or your own legacy. You will back out of enviable professional commitments.

GEMINI (21 MAY – 20 JUNE)

This is a propitious time for you to begin new things, especially if they involve travel or communications. Give special attention to investments and other shared resources. Ease up on the energy output. Your physical body may feel sluggish and your primary focus should be on internal healing.

CANCER (21 JUNE – 22 JULY)

You will feel the need to mature and to solidify your identity, in a new or additional field of work. Changes have come into your life through relationships with those who have minds of their own and they will teach you to set boundaries and claim your independence in a relationship.

LEO (23 JULY – 22 AUGUST)

You might encounter a physical or emotional blockage that demands healing before you move forward. If you do not recognize your feelings, a situation may drop in from the sky that will remind you of 20

circumstances of the past. You will be prone to overreact.

VIRGO (23 AUGUST – 22 SEPTEMBER) A new vision

for your life will take its place as the month moves forward, but be patient. It will be your responsibility to maintain the opportunities you’ve been given. You will be adding new spirit to an ongoing relationship. Many possibilities for reaching people will develop.

LIBRA (23 SEPTEMBER – 22 OCTOBER) This should be an

exciting month; something long in the making will show signs of fruition. There are still some loose ends that need to be tied up, though. You are setting and achieving goals and you must also learn compassion to manifest your best results.

SCORPIO (23 OCTOBER – 21 NOVEMBER) Positivity,

affirmations, being kind to yourself, celebrating your talents and successes – all of this will create fertile soil for your dreams to take root and grow. You will need to let go of any desire to have power over others and focus on developing your inner strength.

SAGITTARIUS (22 NOVEMBER -21 DECEMBER) A pervading

sense of ambivalence is creeping into your life just when you think it’s safe. You’ve been putting too much emphasis on some form of security: a relationship, job or lifestyle. It is holding you back as you’re overlooking an opportunity right in front of your eyes.

CAPRICORN (22 DECEMBER – 19 JANUARY) You should be inspired to achieve greater spiritual understanding by clearing your mind of past

MANISH’S ZODIAC PREDICTIONS MANISH KUMAT ARORA EMAIL: manish@ manishastrologer.com thoughts. Being true to yourself will bring about the happiness you seek. Progress will be made and stability is just around the corner! Take this inspirational energy and put it to good use.

AQUARIUS (20 JANUARY – 18 FEBRUARY) Concentrate

on your strengths and abilities and let go of what you cannot complete or what you don’t possess. Start creating very specific financial plans and goals to get yourself there. It will help. Get your life on track and put more trust in your own thoughts and ideas.

PISCES (19 FEBRUARY – 20 MARCH) You are in the midst of warmth, brightness, and beauty. Keep reaching for the skies, to stay connected with nature and grasp the full power of your capacity and set yourselves free from all restrictions. Work on selfcare, self-assessment and the choices you need to make in life.

HOLISTIC HEALTH

WITH AWARD WINING EXPERT, TRACY MCMAHON OF BUDDHA THERAPIES/ BUDDHA ACADEMIES Spring Therapy For The Mind, Body and Soul March time always feels like the beginning of Spring, bringing with it a new vibe of hope, happiness and some sunshine. At this time it’s a great idea to declutter and clear a space in your life and your home.

How does the bedroom you sleep in feel?

Clutter clearing creates renewed energy within our homes, helping us to feel whole in mind, body and spirit. In our everyday lives there is a need to harness the positive energy of the things and objects we surround ourselves with. Creating a home environment with a wonderful feel and presence we love to be in.

After looking at your answers identify where you want to start the process of clearing in your home?

Here are some questions to ask yourself about your home and your life. When you walk into your home how do you feel? Do you feel peaceful and happy? Do you feel messy and cluttered?

Do you love any rooms in your home and the things in that room? Do you have things in your home that you don’t even like?

I would suggest that on day one, you only spend 20 minutes of your day decluttering. Switch off your phone, no social media and no interruptions or distractions. Set a timer so you have this time to declutter a small space. Promise yourself you can do just 20 minutes. Find a drawer or a small space in a cupboard and just clear it out. If you don’t like an ornament,

picture or any item, its energy affects you negatively, so throw it out!. Give clothes you don’t like to charity. Clear the space so you breathe easily again and the space leaves you feeling peaceful. Keep to the rhythm of 20 minutes every day for a couple of weeks or a month. You will find that you don’t get over whelmed as you are only clearing a small space. You will see and feel the change within you and in your home. Your family and friends will notice the change too. Spring is definitely the time for us all to look at our living space and create an environment we love. Wishing you all a wonderful spring. FASHION DESIGNER Hailed as the new Alexander McQueen, meet fashion designer Ross Griffiths who talks about his new collection, living with HIV and taking the fashion scene by storm When did you discover a flair for fashion? I have always been interested in fashion, from an extremely young age, from watching my mum get dressed for going a night out, to me even dressing up in her clothes,I remember it quite well, silk white underskirt, with lace fringe, a large towel tucked in at the back as a train, and a sports bar, strutting my stuff up and down the bedroom as if I was on a cat walk. This carried on right through my younger years, right into my teens, I even remember trying on my mum's wedding dress on, I couldn't believe my luck, me, wearing a huge, silk, crystal, lace wedding gown, and flower crown may with bouquet to boot, feeling rather fabulous, new then, I LOVE THIS DRESS, and fashion of course, leading to high school where I picked this skill up as at a GCSE level my teacher Mrs Hamilton taught me all the Taino being the terrible teen that I was, I didn't make this class easy for the teacher, although, when it came to practicals in class, that's when my skills truly came to light, making a. Stunning pink marble fishtail dress with lace train, of course. So you could say fashion has always been a huge part of my life from being very young. Is it always something you've wanted to do? I wouldn't say that fashion design has been the forefront of my mind as a career, leaving high school with GCSE Textiles, yes, I thought I would go into fashion, but instead, I took the beauty root, enrolling onto hairdressing level 2. I've struggled finding a career, for many reasons,

maturity, health, moving house. I've always been searching for the next challenge, the next project, or creating something of my own, be it, art, fashion, nails, or makeup, I find that I can turn my hand to absolutely anything creative, but I can say it has taken many years to understand that, what ever career path I take, creativity, design, and development, have to be a massive part of the work, and fashion includes all areas of creativity, satisfying my creative bone. I remember always saying to my mum, "I want to be an architect and build big houses" I was forever drawing houses, this came from my mums passion of house renovation, being surrounded by university books of all the details. I used to sit for hours drawing house that where larger than life. Going through high school, being shown different areas of the curriculum, I turned my had to art, ICT, and textiles, taking ICT for my last year, I thought I wanted to be a website designer, I loved how every element could be changed, or animated.Through my school years I wanted to be many things. My story HIV & overcoming it.. 11 years ago HIV turned my life upside down, when I was diagnosed, it became a pivotal point, do I let this condition swallow me up into a ball of self pity, no self worth and continue to spiral and become much worse than what I already was?

NO! I owed it to myself and my loved ones around me to embrace who and what I was and let everyone see the Ross I wanted to be. My diagnosis was traumatic, I went through what is called a zero conversion, this is where HIV infects the body, I thought myself I was just ill with a cold, but it was much much worse, I couldn't eat, sleep, walk, shower or even go to the toilet, in my mum's words. I thought my life was over. I needed space, what's just happened? Where did I get this from? How long have I got to live? I felt so dirty, unsure of myself and what my life held. After a week of tests, doctors help, antibiotics, slowly building my diet back up, I had to go to the man I was dating St the time, did he know, oh my god what if he's has it to? What if he's ill? The doctors said I had contacted it extremely recently as the zero conversion was extremely severe, so it had been contracted within 24hours. My mum and I made the decision, that my mum would go and see him at his house, it wasn't far. Knocking and knocking, my mum realised there was no one in, but not only that, the house was empty, no sofas, TV or anything

to say someone lived there, using her initiative, my mum posted her mobilber number through the door. The man I was dating at the time was arrested, and statement where made, the police went through past partners, asking for HIV tests to be completed, all coming back negative, leaving only one person left. The police that where investigating the case at the time, made the investigations, finding out the partner I had been dating, had hiv for quite a while, with no records of medication being taken. At this point I realised what had happened, the man I was dating had told me, he had removed protection, purposely to infect me with HIV. Sadly I did not pursue prosecution, as my mental, physical, and emotional health where completly shot at. It's taken many years to learn to live with my HIV, and accept it as part of my life. It used to control me, but now it's my back bone. HIV, weirdly, has probably been a blessing in disguise as my life was on a downward spiral. HIV has forced me to look at my life, my health, people around, and so much more than just what's under my nose. I've learnt to discipline my emotions, manage my body, the ups, the dozens, the hate and the stigma through all the battles. I've never felt so supported, strong, well looked after and understood by so many. I could have let HIV swallow me up whole, as in the beginning I thought it would, but with time, support, friends, education, focus, drive and a passion to be better than I was the day before, I've learnt, what I thought where once my weaknesses are now my strengths. Would you say that's been the biggest hurdle in your life? I would say so yes, although I think like anyone, we all go through life changing hurdles, be it big or small, those hurdles are what are keeping our legs strong to carry us to our

destiny, (now I would have said that 11yrs ago). What keeps you motivated? I have so many things in my life that keep me motivated from my personal life to the general world to other people being successful. I said before I've always had this desire, this passion, a drive, to be better, or chase the next challenge or event or creation, but right now I would say I am my own motivation, as well as people who I work with, the fashion Industry is constantly changing, how could this not motivate anyone to move with the times. What inspires me? The 17th, 18th, 19th century using vintage patterns I've always liked opulence Elegance grandeur and the thought of just over the top so I would say Luxury isspires me. But then there is also many other people that inspire me as well from my personal life work life and also past life for example Audrey Hepburn what a beautiful example a finery from another time. My mum inspires me to always push and reach for what I feel I can achieve. There is inspiration all around me, every minute of everyday, it's that creative mind again, some would say its a blessing some would say its a curse. Who are you biggest fashion influences? Audrey Hepburn was absolutely stunning fitted elegant and classy. I also take a lot of inspiration from Princess Diana as I believe that when I was younger when I used to watch my mum getting dressed for her nights out that she used to look like Princess Diana trying on her blazers with her gold buttons have fitted trousers and her patent pumps. If I was to describe my modern day fashion influences I would have to say Zendaya would be my upmost fashion influence, she is stylish, elegant flawless and can work any Garment, from haute couture catwalk looks to red carpet glamour queen.

Tell us about your beauty line? A number of years ago I created a makeup brand called Leto visage Cosmetics, Leto visage cosmetics was created for everybody to embrace creativity through colour palettes and a story, story of how HIV changed my life through shade names which would pull on the heartstrings I was trying to build awareness for HIV. At this stage and where life is taking me and my position in the fashion industry I would have to say that I would sadly not bring out Leto visage cosmetics again this would be one because of the competition in the industry to the cost of bringing out a new brand but also as well I feel I have found my feet in the fashion industry, the fashion industry is a great way of expressing yourself through style fashion colours Glitz and glamour just another expressive form of myself being able to make people feel confident brave and embrace themselves through fashion that has no gender. Through covid, sadly Leto Visage Cosmetics closed, leading me into the fashion industry. What does the future hold for you? I know that I am very skilled in manifesting my what my desires and what is rightfully mine I would like to achieve within the next 5-years a feature or a cover in vogue and to be able to build a production team that is capable of taking on any project from initial concept right the way through to launch manufacturing and distribution. Already bringing together 10 talented professionals from around Lancashire we have already broken down barriers within the fashion industry reaching papers across Lancashire all the way through to Liverpool to an amazing Lifestyle Magazine so I would just like to pop in a quick thank you to the amazing Amanda Moss who has supported me on my new journey. Meeting Amanda at Liverpool fashion week was an absolute honour and I think Amanda from the bottom of my heart for featuring myself my brand and also my business in Lifestyle magazine. 23

BUSINESS

WHY EVERYONE NEEDS TO ADVERTISE

S

o many times when I approach businesses to help them grow, I get the response that they’re either too busy so “don’t need to advertise” or too quiet and will advertise when things pick up. If you’re busy you can’t be complacent and expect your customers to come back, you have to give them a reason to return. What if there’s a slump in the economy? Advertising brings you loyalty. And if you’re quiet then you need to advertise to ensure you’re the first choice for customers to come to. This is the thing about business. Consistent advertising ensures greater business success. End of. If it didn’t work you wouldn’t see repetition of adverts on the TV, radio and of course in magazines and newspapers. Think advertising doesn’t work ? Tell that to McDonalds, Coca Cola and the endless brands that are etched in your mind as ones to choose.

24

Need new trainers? You’re bound to choose a brand like Under Armour or Nike or Adidas rather than an unbranded one. Why? Because advertising has persuaded you that these are the brands to trust for quality and delivering what they’re supposed to. One-off adverts don’t work, people need reminding. Advertising gives your business brand loyalty and promotes a positive image, giving you greater exposure for you to target your customers. You may have a restaurant that isn’t busy. But you need to advertise regardless, for when your potential customer is looking for somewhere to go out for dinner, you’ll be the first choice they remember. Advertising makes sure that the consumer knows that when they are in need, your business will be there to help them. A continuous amount of

consumers visiting your business is the first step to increase your sales. The more consumers you have, the more business you will have. Advertising creates business now and in the future. And advertising encourages repeat business, for once you have got your customers, they’re bound to come back if you’re providing a great service and product. Ultimately, advertising makes your company money – It works. Advertising attracts customers to your business and increases your sales. When consumers see strong and positive advertisements they are more willing to buy and ready to choose your business. Invest in advertising for your business and you will watch it grow and succeed. Advertising is about creating the desire for your customers. Which is why people love Lifestyle! Talk to me about a bespoke advertising package to help grow your business. I can make you famous. 40 Years Past Modernism

An unlikely wedding anthem went straight to number one in the pop charts upon its release 40 years ago this month.

A Town Called Malice by The Jam; Paul Weller’s superb 1982 commentary on the breakdown of community and a way of British working class life that was disappearing under Thatcherism, set to a bouncing Northern Soul beat, is still a safe bet to get men of a certain age into that rare mood which allows them to be dragged reluctantly to a dance floor in a way that few other records from that period can. The song’s continued popularity at weddings, however, is entirely down to it playing a central part in the smash hit British feel good film of 2000, Billy Elliott, which exposed this classic to new generations around the world. But since Malice is less than three minutes long, by the time a typical man

30

in his 50s or 60s at a British wedding has found somewhere safe to leave his over-priced drink and someone equally safe to keep an eye on it for him, just until he gets back, and has then made his way to the dance floor, the record is usually almost over. It is for this particular reason that I often follow it with another record from that period which usually does the same trick for him, just to make all that effort seem a little more worthwhile. And so the long and instantly recognisable spoken introduction of One Step Beyond by Madness often gets mixed over the closing choruses of Malice and he knows that resistance is futile. The Jam’s founder, vocalist, guitarist, song-

writer, political spokesman and iconic front man, Paul Weller continues to make original music and to inspire devotion in his fans today. From the Style Council years in the 1980s and throughout his hugely successful solo career of the last 30 plus years, The Modfather of Britpop has inspired successive generations of young British men to get a guitar, get into The Small Faces and get a haircut like Steve Marriott’s, and long may that Modernist tradition continue.
