Convention centres form an integral part of the urban fabric of our modern cities. Due to their ability to accommodate large inflow capacities at a single time, they have an important role to play in facilitating community participation, cross learning and social bonding . And, with India emerging as the new hub for MICE tourism, the proposals for these buildings are on a rise. Therefore, there is an urgent need to rethink the design of these large scale public buildings, so that when not in use for any event, these can be enjoyed by the local residents, making their presence perennial.
The thesis specifically aims at generating a mixed use development intended to transform a functionally driven sizable convention centre into a microcosm of public realm.
