PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Hello everyone!
The start of the school year has come and although it does look a little different, our Key Club is still going on strong! We started to have biweekly meetings via Microsoft Teams with our first meeting on August 26. It was so lovely to see all of you guys there because I know that you guys will make this year amazing! This is the start of something wonderful, despite what is happening around us. By overcoming these challenges our club has proved our resilience and commitment to service, find ways to help out the community in a safer manner. I can't wait to see where this leads us! Yours in Service,
Uyen Nguyen

Passing The Torch With the end of a difficult year approaching there will be many changes made as the new board steps into their leadership roles and guides the club into a new year. The future is highly unpredictable and to ensure the success of our club, it is our responsibility as the current board to make sure that the leaders are model members that shine as bright examples. Along with that, they should also demonstrate a passion for serving and an initiative in taking action. Our club faced many challenges this school year along with the rest of the world. We are currently still dealing with the same major problem of not being able to meet in person. Due to the worldwide pandemic, all of our meetings have been virtual. Through technical difficulties and awkward silence we still tried to make the atmosphere of the club the same although it’s hard to build a connection with club members nobody’s technically met.Interviews followed our school’s guidelines and were performed through Google Teams. Thanks to the current situation, it inspired a new set of questions that we were able to ask the members vying for a higher position. Although it’s not required for them to already know everything they’re going to do during their term, we believed that it was
6
essential that they at least had ideas for the future, especially if the future looks similar to the present.
Surprisingly, many members that applied had just joined and were new to the club so they hadn’t experienced the familial atmosphere as well as all of the fun and bonding that comes with Key Club. So no matter what the future looked like, whether it be online or in-person, the new board members will be in uncharted territory. When we conducted the interviews, our questions caught many off-guard, however all of the applicants handled them well! The most important part above all, is dedication. In any situation, dedication will be key. They must have the will to try and try again if something doesn’t work out. I believe that the members we picked have the capacity to lead our club to a bright future, regardless of what’s in store. I’m actually quite excited to see what they will do! As we pass the torch, I’m grateful to know that it will be in the hands of those who will make it burn bright.

KEY MOMENTS:Â YOUTH IN ALLIES
9
By: Bryson Aldridge, Treasurer
Key club was always something I was hearing about because one of my good friends Alyssa was one of the Freshman class representatives at the time, so she was always trying to convince me and my friends to join Key Club. At first we are all hesitant because we were all still freshmen and we were all still trying to figure out what we wanted to do in high school, but after a while of her nagging us I was the only one who ended up joining. I felt bad that she was alone in the club, but I was interested in the club initially because I’ve always really enjoyed volunteering. Everytime I did it it made my heart feel really warm, and I couldn't stop smiling after the fact. I feel like volunteering is always something that lifts my spirits even when I’m really tired or sleepy. I like to do it because it just helps other people out and it makes me look like a leader in my community, so it benefits me and everyone else. volunteering is a really good way to get to know other people in your community and good people volunteer so you’re not hanging out with bad people which is always a
10
plus.
I think one of my most memorable moments of service in 2020 was there in tears TCA volunteering event which is a color guard event that my band was hosting on my school it was really memorable for me because I met one of my really good friends Kinsey there and we really bonded because we had 12 hours to do so. We were able to talk, we got Chick-fil-A and Boba on our break and I was able to walk around with my friends and see at the performances of the color guards who had been practicing all year for this competition. They were all so good, and it didn’t even feel like i was volunteering which is what I hope it always feels like. Some of my new year Key Club resolutions are to make sure that I’m volunteering as safely as possible. I want to volunteer and help my community out but I also want to be safe while I’m doing it and I don’t want to get anyone else sick either. I hope that I’m able to volunteer a little bit more this year and that everything clears up so that I’m able to do so. I also hope that my club members are able to volunteer a little bit more
