PRESIDENT'S LETTER Howdy y'all! I hope everyone had a Happy holidays and is ready to get back to giving back as school starts up again for a fresh new year! I hope everyone had a great break and found some time sit back and relax and reflect on the great semester of learning and service that we just wrapped up. As January comes around it is important to remember that just because it is not the time of year for giving, doesn’t mean that you still can’t give back to your community. Now is the time more than ever to make sure we bring everyone together and serve as much as possible!
Yours in Service,
Gavin Wilson

Summit Serves Week By: Reem Saeed, Webmaster
his year our Key Clubbers pushed for a community service class so we could do what we love as a class. With a lot of pushing our principal and AP’s agreed to create this volunteer-based class for us. This class was a huge success and ended up helping so many people. One of our major projects in this class was to create a week completely revolving around not only helping our school but the community around our school. This week was called Summit Serves Week, each day of that week we had to create and organize a volunteer event. Our first day of the week was Turn Turnell Warnell Around on Monday. Turnell Warnell is the street our school is located on, this street is littered with the trash so a group was in charge of organizing an event to glorify Turner Warnell. This group’s biggest task was finding a way for volunteers to safely volunteer on the side of the road. The result was borrowing highlighter vests from the cross country department and splitting into groups with the buddy system intact. This event was a success that led to a beautiful roadside. Our Tuesday Project actually fell on a day that we had our community service class so our whole class participated. Our Tuesday project was called Serve our Servers which consisted of our class serving breakfast to our cafeteria workers, custodians, nurses, and police officers.

We thought it would be a good idea to give back to those who serve us every day. Wednesday and Friday were our School Supply and Clothing Drive. The groups that were in charge of these days were in charge of contacting elementary schools to help contribute to the drive and deliver the goods to the clothes closets and donation centers. This event helped a lot of children that were in need of warmer clothes in the winter and children who could not afford more school supplies mid-year.The biggest event we planned for the whole Summit Serves Week was our Kids Against Hunger event. This event consisted of our school partnering with Kids Against Hunger to bag food for less fortunate families around the world. The bags were filled with rice, dried vegetables, and spices that were used in a broad range of countries. We packed these bags in an orderly assembly line, there were multiple assembly lines so that the process would move by quicker. Naturally different lines started to compete against each other to see who could fill a box the fastest. In total, we packed over 52,700 bags of food, which was a record high for this company in one day. Overall our week was a major success as it put smiles on many people's faces. It proved how much a small class of 16 people could do to impact a community.

Season Of Giving By: Thomas Tran, Senior Class Rep
Thanksgiving has passed, the season of giving is still upon us, 2019 is wrapping up and 2020 is right around the corner. Reflecting on the past year, it has been filled with many memorable moments including this past month that was also filled with giving back to the community and volunteering. This past month of December wrapped up the 2019 year and semester and was filled with the holiday spirit and giving back. On December 4th we had our PB and J project where we pack peanut butter and jelly sandwiches into bags and deliver them to a homeless shelter in Arlington, Texas. Also, on December 4th, earlier this month our district, Mansfield, had our Toys 4 Tots event. We had many people from Summit High School volunteering, dressing up as elves, being helpers and assisting with various different activities at the event. We also adopted two angels this year and ourmembers brought Christmas gifts to be wrapped and delivered to the kids. We wrapped all the gifts at our last meeting of the year on the 18th of December at our gift-wrapping service social. We also went to the final Feed the Kids: Backpack Program on the 16th of December and were able to pack over one hundred meals. This past year in Key Club

was filled with many highlights of volunteering and learning about how we can make our community a better place. Looking back on our whole year and term it has been a memorable experience. Our term started off on one of the biggest highs of the year at 2019 DCON because our club was surprisingly ranked number one in the Texas-Oklahoma District for 20182019 term. We ended the 2018-2019 school year with a banquet banquet at Olive Garden and remembered everything that we accomplished that school year. We also had our annual water balloon social over the summer, where we invited many people fromÂ
other clubs. We also had our Regional Training Conference over the summer where many of our officers went to learn more about their position and it was a good learning experience for most of us. Our treasurer, Amy Tran, was in charge of one of the presentations and teaching the other treasurers in our region. We started the school year off and we had an amazing first meeting and were able to start our PB and J service project that also had an amazing turnout. Key Club is amazing because it is a club that is able to bring people together and give back to the community.
