PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Hello everyone!
The start of the school year has come and although it does look a little different, our Key Club is still going on strong! We started to have biweekly meetings via Microsoft Teams with our first meeting on August 26. It was so lovely to see all of you guys there because I know that you guys will make this year amazing! This is the start of something wonderful, despite what is happening around us. By overcoming these challenges our club has proved our resilience and commitment to service, find ways to help out the community in a safer manner. I can't wait to see where this leads us! Yours in Service,
Uyen Nguyen

Starting off the school year, I had no idea how the club would look like. All of the officers had no idea if our club would have to become completely virtual, if our club would have to remove our current after school volunteering events, or even if our club would be postponed in activity for a while. My personal biggest concern was our members. Summit Key Club has been a hub for high school community service and the most amazing student experiences that gave me the most wonderful memories with my friends and the satisfaction of giving back to the community. My biggest fear for the school year was losing members from all of the continuing problems that don’t seem to get better. Covid has limited our club’s capability from the get go. It is completely understandable that this has to happen, but it was a really big fear of having to lose more than expected. All was resolved as us officers came together to find a way to increase club activity and to make the club great again. Us officers had come up with a plan to split the key club evenly into 4 groups which they can customize as well as have the groups compete for prizes by gaining points from volunteering. The plan seemed to be “iffy” but it was worth a shot to try it out this year. As we implemented

it within the first month of school the school year it absolutely kicked off.
Many of the members loved the idea as it brought such an interest into volunteering. Key Clubbers would anticipate local volunteering opportunities - even though it was limited due to the pandemic - and us officers would see an amazing amount of participation within our groups.Of course some groups had more participation than others, but with the idea of competition for a prize at the end of the year, many members found the idea more fun and engaging. My group was called “E and within the first couple of months, we have participated far more than any other group. As simple as the name sounds, it was based off of the 2018 meme and has become the base for one of the most lovely groups of a club I have ever been lucky to be a part of.

KEY MOMENTS:Â YOUTH IN ALLIES

By: Christina Ayala, Treasurer
Key club was always something I was hearing about because one of my good friends Alyssa was one of the Freshman class representatives at the time, so she was always trying to convince me and my friends to join Key Club. At first we are all hesitant because we were all still freshmen and we were all still trying to figure out what we wanted to do in high school, but after a while of her nagging us I was the only one who ended up joining. I felt bad that she was alone in the club, but I was interested in the club initially because I’ve always really enjoyed volunteering. Everytime I did it it made my heart feel really warm, and I couldn't stop smiling after the fact. I feel like volunteering is always something that lifts my spirits even when I’m really tired or sleepy. I like to do it because it just helps other people out and it makes me look like a leader in my community, so it benefits me and everyone else. volunteering is a really good way to get to know other people in your community and good people volunteer so you’re not hanging out with bad people which is always a

plus.
I think one of my most memorable moments of service in 2020 was there in tears TCA volunteering event which is a color guard event that my band was hosting on my school it was really memorable for me because I met one of my really good friends Kinsey there and we really bonded because we had 12 hours to do so. We were able to talk, we got Chick-fil-A and Boba on our break and I was able to walk around with my friends and see at the performances of the color guards who had been practicing all year for this competition. They were all so good, and it didn’t even feel like i was volunteering which is what I hope it always feels like. Some of my new year Key Club resolutions are to make sure that I’m volunteering as safely as possible. I want to volunteer and help my community out but I also want to be safe while I’m doing it and I don’t want to get anyone else sick either. I hope that I’m able to volunteer a little bit more this year and that everything clears up so that I’m able to do so. I also hope that my club members are able to volunteer a little bit more
