letter Hi, everyone!!! Sadly, summer has come to an end, but I’m glad to say this has been an amazing summer for our club :) Just last week it was announced that we are one of the Top 25 Clubs in the T-O District! None of this could’ve been done without y’all, so thanks for being awesome Key Clubbers. The end of July also calls for our club’s annual fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and I’m proud to announce that we were able to raise over $1,000 for childhood cancer research! I can’t thank y’all enough for helping us reach our goal! Thanks for being so amazing throughout the summer, I can’t wait to see what the school year has in store for us & I wish everyone the best of luck! In Love and Service,
Patricia Rojas

HUMANS OF TEXASOKLAHOMA Nasim Muhammad, Historian I joined Key Club at the beginning of my junior year, mainly because my mother recommended me to join. Before my mother recommended Key Club to me, I wasn’t as social and as willing to do extra curricular activates. But once I did join, I ended up becoming this adequate, helpful and content young mad that I probably would have not been if it wasn’t for Key Club. Before Key Club, my focus was mostly on academics. Of course, it still is, but I wasn’t fond on joining any clubs other than the swim team during high school. Throughout the beginning of my high school years, I was conflicted to join a very few select clubs, but once I was introduced to Key Club, it really opened my eyes, giving me new experiences as well as a new friend group. Since I only did swim for the first two years of high school, that and school were the only things I was interested in. But since Key Club, my interests have expanded from the

swim team to organizations that are made to help people in need. Key Club has introduced me to the incredible word of volunteering. The more I volunteer with Key Club, the more my mind expands on giving and partaking in helping others. It has inspired me to be a be a mature young man and to have pride in being a giver. Key Club opens my eyes to less fortunate people all around the Mansfield area. It has given me a new point of view and a new set of eyes by making me look at not why I’m doing it, but who I’m doing it for. As a Key Club member, my goal is to encourage leadership through serving others. This really means a lot to me since I have to appreciate togetherness and the things I may have that others don’t. I’ve changed a lot after joining Key Club by being more willing to give my time and efforts as well as my great fullness in helping others I may never meet. That’s why I am thankful for being apart of such a great organization. Now that I am in Key Club, it has introduced me to a new side of myself.. I truly love being around my friends, going to socials, and volunteering, and I definitely don’t regret joining this magnificent organization of loving students.

14
Alex’s Lemonade Stand was started by Alex Scott, a 4 year old cancer patients, when she heard that her family was struggling to pay for her treatments, She started her lemonade stand to help raise money to pay for said treatments.
LEMONADE STAND
Sadly. Alex lost her fight with cancer but her memory still lives on within the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. This year our Key Club teamed up with the Mansfield Kiwanis to host our own Alex’s Lemonade Stand keeping with SHS Key Club’s summer tradition of helping raise money for childhood cancer!!

SERVICE CHANGES Chelsea Angwenyi, Junior Class Representative Before I joined Key Club, I had always thought about volunteering. I knew it was a generous thing to do for the community but I never knew how or where to do it. It was always at the back of my mind, but I didn’t exactly know how to start. Do I just go somewhere and say that I wanted to help? I didn’t know. So when I saw Key Club and saw that I could do volunteering through it, I was exposed to more than just the typical food pantry volunteer shelter. A few years ago, back in middle school, I did something like Feed the Kids, where my friend and I helped organize and pack food for people who needed it. But the first volunteering event I went to while in high school was Feed the Kids. When I first went, I loved the kind and giving atmosphere that Feed the Kids gave off. People didn’t have to, but every week they showed up to do a good thing and help bag food for kids in the district who needed it. And just by going there, you can make a difference and make the bagging process easier. I liked how you really get to know the people there and how they were so friendly to everyone.

make the bagging process easier. I liked how you really get to know the people there and how they were so friendly to everyone. Another volunteering event I started attending was the Rush Creek food pantry. This is the event that I volunteer at the most and fell in love with. It’s like every time you visit, you’re doing something different to help, whether it’s helping out in the food pantry, or helping organize the donated clothes, or just simple tasks that they hadn’t had the time to do. I got to know the volunteers at the Compassion Center really well and genuinely enjoyed volunteering there every week. I also started volunteering at elementary schools and helping out with events that they were hosting. This might have been my favorite thing to volunteer at because helping kids is fun. Whether it was doing concessions at a movie night, helping at a math night, or throwing powder at a color run, volunteering at elementary schools are always tons of fun. What I’ve learned from Key Club is that service is something that is always needed and that you don’t have to go very far to volunteer. There could be an event in need of volunteers right around the corner from you. I learned that service really helps

This month has been pretty busy for me. Recently I stared band camp, and it’s a lot of work. Every day I come home with sore feet from marching and even a sore jaw sometimes from playing so much. But no matter what, I always make sure I take care of all my Key Club duties. Even though I was mentally and physically exhausted, I still helped at our annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand, where we made over $1,1116 dollars. It was a really fun event to go to and I enjoyed every second of it. I hope that no matter what’s going on in your life that you can help serve Key Club and make our community a better place. In Love and Service,
Alyssa Brown
