letter Hello everyone, With the summer coming to a close I think it's fitting that we take some time to reflect on the success we’ve had this summer, as well as layout a plan for what we’re going to be doing this upcoming year. First, I would like to give a big thanks to everyone who was able to come out to any of our events over the summer, you are the reason that this summer was so jam-packed with activities. Over the course of the summer, we were able to host many socials and fundraisers that contributed to sending us to DCON at the end of the year, in total we were able to raise approximately $500 over the course of the summer, as well as the $1335 we made for our Alex’s Lemonade Stand in early July. Volunteering was another huge part of our summer, each and every week you could find the officers and club members at events like Feed The Kids and Allies in Youth Development, and of course, we always look forward to our Friday morning visits with the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield. However, this was only onequarter of hard work and we have a ton more in front of us in this upcoming school year. We plan to use the money that we got from the YOF this year in order to continue our PB&J project: Vol. 2, as well as start our new clean up the park project to clean up the areas around Summit. We are excited to spend this year in full service to our home school and community! Yours in service,

THE “KEY” TO MY HEART Grace Mutterer, Social Coordinator Hello there! My name is Grace Mutterer, I am proud to be Mansfield Summit High Schools’ service/social coordinator! When I first joined Key Club, like many high school students, it was for the purpose of putting it on my college application. Little did I know that being a part of Key Club would change my life forever. Joining Key Club my junior year I thought that Key Club was just about volunteering, I did not understand that Key Club is a highly successful elite organization with a core value of serving others. Key Club is a cause to bring people together by allowing them to use their creativity and brainstorming abilities to solve problems faced by their communities; as well as building characteristics possessed by a 10 leader, such as dedication and communication. It is a club where these
leaders then share their wisdom and gifts to serve others. Key Club has shown me the benefit of networking with other high school Key Clubs to trade off ideas that could potentially benefit both clubs. Being in Key Club has brought so much joy to my life, it has given me an outlet to do the two things I hold dearest to my heart; volunteering while spending quality time with friends and making memories that will last a lifetime. Key Club, made me realize that I love giving back to my community. Through different service projects, such as our PB and J Project and Feed The Kids, I have been able to help thousands of children and adults in my community receive meals. It brings me joy to see that I am bringing joy to others, even if it is just by making a PB and J sandwich. The bonds I have also developed with fellow Key Clubbers are irreplaceable, by sharing the same passion of helping others and serving our community. Key Club is an amazing organization that has brought joy to both me and others throughout the world. It is a platform for which people can be heard, or speak up for those who are not heard. Whether its making PB and Js, packing meals for the less fortunate in the community, cleaning up the park, helping at nursing homes or schools; Key Club gives people an outlet to do random acts of kindness in their community and help spark a movement for a change in a better tomorrow.

MY SUMMER VOLUNTEERING! Christina Ayala, Junior Class Representative
14
Unlike many of my previous summers, I spent this summer being productive and volunteering. During the summer I volunteered for many different events, but my favorites were Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Feed the Kids, and my bands registration day. Alex’s lemonade stand is a fundraiser started by Alexandra Scott when she was diagnosed with childhood cancer. She wanted to raise money so doctors could help other diagnosed kids like they had helped her. After Alex had passed away supporters, such as my schools key club, hosted their own lemonade stands to help find a solution to childhood cancer. We stood outside of our local five and below to hand out free lemonade. People came to get lemonade and listened to Alex’s story, and some of them donated to the cause. My key club raised $1330 in 3 days. Although this organization has been around my community for a while, my first time volunteering at Feed
the Kids was this summer! It was a really cool experience because I knew that every bag of food we put together would go directly to a child in my school district. The food we packed for them would help them be well nourished so they could focus on school, and keep them from having problems in school just because they were hungry. It especially hit home because I also come from a low income house household, and have skipped numerous meals because of it. It was fulfilling to help other people who are in the same situation I was. For once I felt like I actually made an impact on somebody somewhere. I felt really good knowing that what I was doing was helping my community directly. Another place I volunteered at was my bands registration. Every year we have to get 300 kids shoes, gloves, uniforms, and other necessities for our marching band. Kids like myself volunteer so that the band parents don’t end up having to do everything themselves. This year me and my mom helped fit kids into their marching uniforms, and clean up after everyone was gone. It’s always great volunteering for my bands registration because it gives me the opportunity to meet all of the new members, and helps to prepare us for the new marching season! I’m glad that this summer I was able to get out of my house and have fun with my friends while helping numerous good causes. I hope that I’m able to do this next summer, and even my summers after high school!

I could’ve sworn like two seconds ago I was sitting in the lecture hall with one of my friends listening to the president at the time talking about what Key Club is and me wondering why there’s a whole club dedicated to keys. Now in a little more than a week I’m gonna be a junior? Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess. Anyways, I’m super proud of the Summit Key Club for surpassing our $1200 goal for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and raising $1335! I have very fond memories regarding this particular fundraiser, and every year it brings me joy to be apart of it. Thanks again to everyone who helped out, and I can’t wait to see what this school year brings us! In Love and Service,
Alyssa Brown
