letter Hey guys and gals, June was a jam-packed month full of all sorts of awesome festivities and I was glad to see so many of your wonderful faces at our events. I’d like to start with a quick recap of the month, so we’ve had a lot of fun going to all of the Feed the Kids events, we also had our annual water balloon fight and got soaked, and we were able to help out with some fourth of July celebrations. However, this is not all we have going on this summer, we will also hold our Alex’s Lemonade Stand later this month as well as work on some new volunteer events, such as cleaning up the park and continuing to go back to Allies in Youth Development. We are all looking forward to ending this summer with a lot of fun as we try our best to serve our community as we ger up for this upcoming school year. We hope to continue to see yall back at these events, and I would like to thank each and every member that has made time to serve over the course of the summer!
Yours in service,

GALLONS OF FUN Reem Saeed, Webmaster Although Key Club is revolved around helping others we do take breaks to stop and smell the roses. Because we spend so much time together we have to take some time to sit down and have a good laugh. One event that our club planned to help us get a little closer this month was our spectacular water balloon fight. For the past couple of years our club has been having an annual summer water balloon fight to take the ease off and cool down a little bit. To prepare for this fight we all pitched in and bought around 1700 balloons. We took a day to all meet up and fill up these balloons, which was a bonding experience within itself. Although we were in the heat for several hours we still found ways to have a good laugh. 12 The day of our social we had three fun games to warm us
up before the water balloon fight started. The first thing we did was have a fun icebreaker where we if we caught the water balloon we had to talk about ourselves for a certain amount of time. It was a way for people to get wet before the fight even started. The next game we played was a homemade messy twister. We made our messy twister with food coloring and shaving cream so it was a colorful mess. Mixed with the heat and the melted shaving cream we were slipping everywhere The last game we played was a water balloon long toss. The point of this game was to find someone you didn’t know and throw the water balloon to each other and if y’all catch it you both have to take one step back. So you end up going farther and farther and it keeps getting harder as you keep playing. We had a “prize” for the last pair standing. Once the last water balloon was dropped, we had a giant party sized balloon ready to be popped on top of their heads. The giant water balloons popping was the signal to the start of the water balloon fight. The fight lasted around 15 minutes long and by the end of if everyone was soaked from head to toe. After we finished, we all went around and picked up all the popped water balloons so we wouldn’t harm the environment. Once everyone started to disperse a few of us stayed behind and even played a friendly game of volleyball. Our social was a great way for us to wind down and get to know some Key Clubbers from our community and without any hassle. Although volunteering is fun winding down with some friends is always a plus.

Our annual water balloon fight this year was very successful with many people from multiple schools playing games like messy Twister and other icebreakers!

SUMMER Thomas Tran, Senior Class Representative

School is out and summer is in, and with it comes more time in the sun, fun with water balloons and of course everyone’s favorite activity, more volunteering. Summer is the perfect time to get people interested in volunteering during their free time and is also a good time to spread the message of key club that will bring in new members for the upcoming school year. This month marked the start of the Feed the Kids summer program, a service project sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield and led by Kiwanis advisor, Phil Stover. Feed the Kids is a volunteering opportunity where volunteers pack bags with food that will be given to children in the area. Many Key Club members from various different schools come volunteer and help out with bagging all the different assortment of foods. It is amazing to see all the dozens of people that take the time out of their day and come out to help every week and is a
reminder of why we volunteer, to help build a stronger community and to help those who can’t do it alone. Our club also had our annual water balloon social at Stovall Park in Arlington, Texas. We had an amazing turnout of around 50 people and were able to build interest in Key Club for people who were able to come. We made around 1600 water balloons to throw and we also brought many other activities such as messy twister, an icebreaker with a “twist” requiring a twister mat and shaving cream that is dyed the color of the marks on the mat and people would have to get messy in order to win. The water balloon social was a good way to build interest in Key Club and also to build stronger bonds with people around you because what better way to get to know people than to have some fun in the sun. With two more months of summer our club still has a lot planned for the rest of summer. In the upcoming months we have many more volunteering opportunities planned and are expecting to work with other clubs to build a better community. We also plan on teaming up with Kiwanis and will set up a lemonade stand to try and raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to help alleviate the cost for children who can’t afford cancer treatment and help them get the care they deserve. Summer is the perfect time for Key Club to get out there and build a better community because it’s all about helping each other.

This month has been an amazing month for Key Club this month with another successful water balloon fight. I forgot to bring a towel and I ended up having to drive home completely soaked, which was not fun. We also attended Timberview’s water balloon social, where I got to meet some great people. This month has been great for me though because I found out that I had one of the top newsletters for May, and I’m super happy about that. Thank you again so much to Vivian, who I know is reading this and is now going to grade my newsletters with high standards. I won’t let you or my club down!
In Love and Service,
Alyssa Brown
