letter Hi Key Clubbers!!
I cant believe we are halfway done with the 2018-2019 term! Its so bittersweet because I've absolutely loved everything we’ve done throughout the past 6 months, but I also know that DCON will be upon us before we know it! Now October was an extremely eventful month, packed with school carnivals, socials and lots of fun! We also started Members of the Month again and I'm proud to announce that Junior, Lalo Tovar and Sophomore, Kaliyah Milner were our most spooktacular members!! Thanks for all of your dedication to Key Club, we couldn’t do it without y’all :’))
In Love and Service,
Patricia Rojas

TAG, YOU’RE IT Sharlene Garcia, Reporting Secretary
Spooky scary skeletons sends shivers down your spines, but members who don’t record their hours starts to get me a little more frightened. October was a busy month as people as getting ready for Halloween and dressing up in costumes ranging from Disney princesses or the clown from It. This month our major event was the Farr Best Theatre in which member volunteered their time to raise money for Mansfield Summit Key Club. A lot of members were expecting a ton of events during November, so in order to meet demanded we all worked hard for three days to raise enough for our club. Though fundraisers weren’t personally my kind of thing, it was one of my favorite memories because of who I’m doing it with. Webmaster Lacey Thomas, Service Coordinator Reem Saeed, Junior Class Representative, Key Clubber Lalo Trovar, and myself included were assigned to try and advertise the fundraiser throughout the local town of Mansfield Texas. The night was still young and many of the folks had some time to spare after taking a bite around the local restaurants. We roamed around the little venue and talking with a few people to come stop by. Every now and then we would all take photos as the heart of Mansfield had amazing sights and murals. We began to learn a little more

about the community and eventually learn more about each other. Once we had enough time to go around town and advertise, we went back to the theatre to meet up with President Patricia Rojas, Vice President Gavin WIlson, and Senior Class Representative Bushra Khaliq. We all had enough time to sit back and watch the famous clown movie, It, and making jokes to avoid the inevitable jump scares. And as before the movie ended, I got to see my favorite Senior Class Representative Bushra Khaliq dress up as the clown from It and scare almost everybody in the room. After volunteering about half the day at the Farr Best Theatre, the movie, the popcorn, and the amazing people I was with was much needed. Life is not just the things we do, but who we’re doing them with. I’ve never been more happy to be part of a wonderful board who does their best not only to excel in their own accord, but grow the cub into a greater vision and a light for others to enjoy helping our community. October was by far my favorite month of service as the board and members grew a little closer together this month. We all worked together, made a bunch of jokes, and ultimately did our best to help the community and ourselves grow. As always, October is full of spooky surprises, like ghosts, ghouls, werewolves, financial aid, but things get a little less scary when you have amazing friends to get you by.

These two members have demonstrated their dedication to Key Club by not only coming to meetings and events, but also by turning in hours on time, every time, and because of that, they’ve earned themselves the honor of being the first two members of the month!

A new year, a new experience! This is my first year in this frightening environment they call high school, so I’m glad I stumbled on Key Club to help guide me. The activities are fun, and the people are extraordinary. Since Key Club is a volunteering organization it provides many opportunities for others and myself to not only gain experience in volunteering, but help others in the process. The events Key Club holds and participate in astonishes me since the majority of it is run by students. They plan things from simple get togethers to a entire banquets. It is a very organized group and the standard that these people hold themselves to is
something I deeply respect. At first I was confused as to what Key Club exactly was. Did they make keys? Was it just a group of people helping in soup kitchens? I had no idea. But the more time I spent there the more I realized what it was: a family. Like a family, they’re very flexible when it comes to dealing with problems and schedules. They listen to every side of a problem, and deal with it in a professional manner. But most importantly, they have fun together and act as one. Another great thing about Key Club is the sense of purpose you get from helping people, as cliche as that sounds. There’s a quote about this that really spoke to me: “Sooner or later, you realize that real fulfillment comes only from helping others. All the rest is temporary.” All my life I’ve done things for my own gain, and now that I’m in high school, I think I should start thinking about the big picture. I have to step out of my comfort zone to help the greater good. Overall, the little time I’ve spent with this wonderful group of people has been an amazing experience. It’s amazing to go to different events and seeing the joy on peoples faces when you help them, whether it

Hey Key Clubbers! This month was spooky month, and it made me so happy! As you can see in my lovely newsletter, there’s lots of orange and black to represent Halloween. I promise I won’t use so much of one color on my newsletters like this again (until Christmas rolls around, but I swear after that I’m done). This month we introduced the idea of having two members of the month, and it turned out to be a huge success! The goal of this is to motivate our members more, and I know it will work. I even had one member come up to me after the meeting telling me that he’s determined to be the member of the month next month, and that made me smile! In Love and Service,
Alyssa Brown
