letter Hellooo SHS Key Clubbers! The school year has finally began and I’m so excited for y’all to see what the officers and I have in store for you. Our first two meetings went super well and I am so thankful for each and every one of you who attended! As several of you already know we are changing things up this year! Instead of having a general meeting every week we are going to have a combination of general meetings, service project days and socials so just stay tuned so you know what we’re doing that way, but regardless WE WILL MEET EVERY WEDNESDAY!! The upcoming month of September is absolutely full of service events, so its going to be a super easy way to get your hours done!! I plan on attending most of the events so I cant wait to see y’all there :)
In Love and Service,
Patricia Rojas

THE KEY TO SUCCUESS! Lacey Thomas, Webmaster School has officially started and that means so does the responsibilities. Everyone thinks once school starts that means no fun and all work but it doesn’t have to be like that. There is a way to balance your rigorous courses, sports, and clubs. It’s my Junior year and I personally have an AP class and will have three TCC classes this year also. My schedule will also be filled with tournaments and Key Club events to go to but I’m already balancing all of it in my own way. I will be telling you the way to success and how to balance all of it. One of the best ways to balance all of your extracurriculars and classes would be to get a planner. A planner is a great way to organize all your events so you won’t miss a thing. You can buy a planner or get one on your phone if you use your phone very often. If you really want to
10
stay organized, use a paper planner and one on your phone, so you get notifications and won’t forget if you write it down. Another way to make your planner great is to color code. Color coding can help you remember more often and distinguish between extracurriculars and classes. I know a planner won’t keep your grades in check though and that’s why you have to prioritize. Prioritizing is the key to success. Pun not intended. Whenever you have homework don’t procrastinate it. Especially if you procrastinate because you want to go to a social instead. If you do the work you have the rest of the time to have fun. Let’s say you miss school because of a tournament. Before that day get all your school work and make sure to talk to your teacher about making it up. You don’t want to make the mistake of forgetting because then you will have a limited time to make it up if you didn’t get your priorities straight in advance. It all sounds like a lot but you go this! School can be stressful but don’t let it get to you. Follow these steps and you can cruise through the year. Not too much though cause you still have to work hard to succeed. No matter what grade you are in, you can follow these steps. The last step is to enjoy it all because soon enough it will be over and you will miss it no matter what.

KICKIN’ OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR! Amy Tran, Treasurer As summer comes to an end, and the school year approaches, our Summit Key Club is preparing for an amazing year with some awesome Key Club members. This year we wanted to start the school year off right, so we held a social consisting of fun games and food. By doing this, we were able attract students to join and become a member of this amazing service organization. A couple days before the social, our President, Patricia Rojas, planned a board meeting to discuss the plan of what we will be talking about and which officer will be doing what, whether that’s explaining to the students what’s on the PowerPoint or passing out papers such as Key Club forms and hour sheets. At that meeting we also talked about some “Icebreakers” we could play. In the end, we decided on putting a Disney Kahoot on the projector for everyone to play, and a game we like to call matchmakers, which is basically where one person stands in
16
front of the room and lists their type or preferences until there’s one person left. Some main things we explained on the slideshow was what Key Club is and our core values such as leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. But before all of that, the first thing we did was raise our right hand and state the Key Club Pledge. After that, introduced ourselves (ourselves being the board) to the audience. That way, they have a familiar sense of who we are. We also introduced our fellow advisors, Mr. Reese and Mrs.Berwise, our Lieutenant Governor, Brianna Dao, and our Kiwanian, Phil Stover. We talked about who they are and what role they have in our Key Club. After the introductions, we talked about some ways we can earn hours, such as events held at our local elementary schools and our very own service project hosted right at our high school. This year long service project is called the Peanut Butter and Jelly Project, A.K.A the PB&J Project, where every other Wednesday after school, students will make 100 sandwiches to give to the Arlington Life Shelter. This is only possible by Key Club International who gave us a grant to perform this amazing service project, which not only allows Key Clubbers earn hours, but it also gives the chance for members from other organizations such as National Honor Society to volunteer as well.

Hello everyone! I hope that everyone’s school year has been going well so far! I know mine has so far. With the start of school comes the start of meetings once again. Our first general meeting had an outstanding turn out, and it made me very happy. I want to thank everyone who showed up to support us, it really means a lot. I’m hoping that all the meetings can be as fun and productive as our first one. Whoops, I didn’t mean to get all cheesy on you guys. I’m just really excited for this year!
In Love and Service,
