President's l e t t e r Dear Mansfield Summit Key Club members, The new year has finally begun! Although I was a bit sad that winter break ended, seeing you guys again makes me happy. To think that I only have less than three months left to be your club president is so shocking… What am I going to do on Wednesday mornings and afternoons??? Anyways, we have very exciting news to share with you guys regarding service so please stay tuned! Thank you so much for volunteering endlessly and emitting positive energy nonstop. I hope everyone’s year started off well and I’ll see you guys in the hallways! :) x

OUR DISTRICT GOALS: Mansfield Summit Key Club is a part of the Texas-Oklahoma District and each year our district selects a District Project and a a Governors Project for all the Key Clubbers accross Texas and Oklahoma to participate in:
Here are the projects for this year:
GOVERNORS PROJECT
This year our District Governor, Sabrina Palma decided to focus on helping individuals with disabilities. Because there are so many disabilities here are just some general rules for helping the disabled : - Always treat those who have disabilities as equals. - Always ask before you help. - Do not stare.
- Respect and understand confidentiality - Never assume someone does or does not have a disability.
DISTRICT PROJECT
This year's District Project focuses on helping the homeless, and there are several things that you guys as Key Clubbers can do locally to help out! I reccomend volunteering at places such as the Arlington LIfe Center or Mission Arlington, because they focus on helping the homeless comunity and that would be a great way for you guys to help out with this year's District Project.

Fun Night at BINGO Night c
By: Phillipe Tran, Senior Class Rep Thursday night, a group of Key Clubbers from my school and I went out to our local nursing home. Our purpose was help the elderly find joy again. The most stereotypical event, yet probably the greatest game out there, is Bingo, and everyone had a blast playing it. Here is how it went down: prior to starting the official game, everyone would gather around a table. Each table had between one and two residents of the nursing home, with at least two high school volunteers with them to help them play the game. Key Clubbers would assist in playing multiple boards for each resident if the resident was unable to play by themselves due to a variety different reasons. By having more than one bingo card, and several youngsters looking out for the numbers being called out, that meant that the resident’s chances of winning went up!
10
When someone wins, the residents could win one to two dollars, and we make sure that each resident wins at least once before moving on to round two.The host of the event, a Kiwanian himself, would always come prepared with a few bucks to keep them motivated for
the next round. The event lasted for an hour or so, and the competition made things get intense. During the game everyone talked to each other, to get to know each individual personally. Everyone exchanged
everyone talked to each other, to get to know each individual personally. Everyone exchanged exciting stories, shared funny jokes, and joined in on a good laugh. It was such an amazing time, and everyone felt blessed for being out there on this Bingo night. The elders enjoyed the teenage volunteers’ company and were thankful for us coming out to spend time playing a few games of bingo with them. However, we were even more thankful for them giving us the opportunity and allowing us to join them in such an amazing time. There were no losers, only winners. Not just the residents, but also the volunteers. Though we walked out with nothing
in our pockets, we had something placed in our hearts. We learn so much from the residents. We saw the experience of what it's like to live like they do, and we realized the impact we have on their lives for coming out once a month to join them in a game of Bingo. They enjoyed our company, and we were grateful for the opportunity they had given us. For these reasons, we will definitely come out again next Bingo night!

Why Key Club? Compared to other service organizations at your school, why did you choose Key Club? What made Key Club stand out? By: Arantza Zamudio, Webmaster Walking around a typical high school campus, you are bound to notice many posters and flyers advertising multiple extracurricular activities. They all seem very promising, and range from art club to robotics, and even to board game and yoga club. Most notable, however, are the service organizations. Many extracurricular clubs require service hours, like Student Council, National Honor Society, and of course, Key Club. However, not every club encourages community service for the sake of helping humanity quite like Key Club does. Other extracurricular activities do community service with the focus and intent to develop a stronger character within their members, particularly

in the areas of morals and leadership. Key Club, on the other hand, believes that while participating in service events does develop the leadership of all individuals involved, it is the act of helping the community out of the graciousness of its members’ hearts that truly makes the biggest impact in our world. Key Club reaches more hearts in the world than most local and even national organizations do. As an international student-led organization, we have members serving on virtually every continent in the world! We help organizations like the Thirst Project in their cause to build wells for impoverished
there is so much more to service than the individual. We reach out to communities around the world, and together, we stay connected.
communities in Africa, and UNICEF to fight for children’s rightsmpoverished communities in Africa, and UNICEF to fight for children’s rights around the world. With the help of Kiwanis International, we expand our horizon even further to include not only teenagers in secondary schools, but also adults and children in the Builders Club, and college students in Circle K. As you can see, community involvement has no boundaries when you are part of the Key Club family. Key Clubbers develop leadership through serving others, yes, but they also gain a greater comprehension of what it means to be part of a much larger whole. We help our local charities but also see
that there is a whole world that we can make better. Key Club believes that
Of course, other service organizations and leadership clubs have their merits. In the end, we are all serving to make the world a better place. It is for the sake of helping others that members give so much to their community, and oftentimes a Key Club member will also form a part of another service organization in order to reach out to an even broader spectrum of people. In addition, Key Clubbers may invite peers from those other clubs into Key Club, thus expanding the family and serving even more people. Clearly, our world is all
about connections. While we don’t make keys, we do open doors; doors that lead to the betterment of our communities, at the local, national, and global scale. Key Club embodies the spirit that together we can, truly, do anything.
