President’s
Letter
Dear Mansfield Summit Key Club members, My name is Alice Nguyen and I will be your new club president for the following year! I am stoked to have this opportunity to become a leader who will serve you in every way possible alongside with the new board members. As your president, I vow to provide the best and only the best for you. Whether it’d be opening scholarship opportunities, hosting more interactive socials, or providing many service events and goodies, I want you to enjoy your time being a part of this wonderful organization. I also want all your voices to be shared and heard because every single opinion should be valued and knowing that a club cannot function without its members, I promise to hold the upmost respect for every input you place. During 2016 to 2017, I held the officer position as the club’s reporting secretary and had an immense amount of fun being an officer who was always at anyone’s service. From running various meetings to hosting socials, I am excited to continue my duty as an officer and make Key Club an unforgettable experience for everyone! With that being said, I hope you all look forward to the great strides and achievements the new board officers and I will make and bring grand success to our club. Sincerely,

Meet your New Officers!
President
Hello, my name is Alice Nguyen and I am currently a junior at Mansfield Summit High School! I think I’m a humorous person who is notorious for puns and citing “dad -jokes”. I’m a self-taught dancer who began the hobby since fifth grade and since then, my dancing styles have changed. Like my dancing style, my music preference has also altered throughout the years. Currently, I enjoy jamming out to various artists such as Blackbear, Kehlani, and Janine. Although there is a fun side of me, I tend to get very serious whenever it is necessary. Like Captain Li Shang from “Mulan” once sang, “Let's get down to business.”
Hi, I’m Brianna but people also know me as Bri! I’m a pretty awkward person if I’m being completely honest. If you don’t know much about me I tend to come off as quiet and shy, but once you know more about me other than “She’s Asian and her names Brianna”, you’ll know that I’m super social, I always have a smile on my face, I’m a cheez its fanatic, and I love puns. Lemme repeat that again, I LOVE PUNS. Absolutely obsessed. If you’re a fan of really bad puns and Kendrick Lamar, we’d get along really well!

Hi! My name is Anna, your Reporting Secretary for this year and I am a Junior at Mansfield Summit High School. I like to hang out with my friends and just have a good time. I want to travel with my friends when i grow up, but for now mini-road trips will do. I don't think i could last a day without listening to music. I listen to a variety of music but at the moment I'm obsessed with Kendrick Lamar, Logic, and SZA. I'm excited to be Reporting Secretary and I’m ready for the next school year!

So a little bit about myself, I love Harry Potter. I enjoy reading, writing, and drawing. I cant wait to serve you as Service Coordinator. I hope to get more people involved in Key Club and obtain multiple volunteering opportunities for all members.

Hi! My name is Patricia, but my friends call me Paty, so feel free to do the same. I tend to nap a lot but I still manage to get everything done on time. I’m a child at heart who absolutely loves memes. And last but not least, I have an extremely varied music taste, consisting of Spanish Pop, LANY, Khalid, Oh Wonder, Frank Ocean, Blackbear & Logic to name a few.
Hey Key Club! I’m Arantza Zamudio, the first Official Webmaster for the SHS Key Club. I am an upcoming Senior with high expectations and a passion for learning. I believe the role of webmaster is to maintain a high quality website that reflects our mission to serve the community by balancing organization and creativity. Extracurricular interests include (but aren't limited to) DIY, photography, and tinkering with personalization settings. My long term goal is to be an architect, and to do humanitarian/awareness acts throughout my career.

Hey its Sarah! I’m a junior at Summit and I’m obsessed with almost every T.V. Show on Earth. I’m arguably ‘small’ and I can probably survive on just Gushers candy even though I almost died eating one. Treasurer
Meet your New Class Representatives!
Senior
Hi, I'm Phillipe & I'm a proud student of Summit High chool who is now participating in various activities. This year I have joined the swim team, key club and Next year NHS. I love to help out whenever I can with anything, if help is needed I'm there. I come from a Vietnamese American background and have been living in Texas all my life. I used to be a very shy kid, but now, if anyone knows me well enough, I can be a really outgoing and easygoing person.
Hello readers! I'm Sophia, your Junior Class Rep who's a cat enthusiast and a honey nut cheerio fanatic. I own one cat and words that have been used to describe her are: demonic, cute, evil, and fat. There's nothing cuter than walking into the kitchen and your cat suddenly pouncing on your ankle like it's a turkey leg. Anyway, thanks for joining Key Club and hope to see more of you!
Sophomore
Hey Summit key club! My name is Farria Shoaib and I will be your Sophomore Class Representative for the upcoming year! I’m a very sarcastic person and joke around quite often. I enjoy watching YouTube videos specifically beauty related. I listen to a variety of music from Justin Bieber to many R&B artists. I love going out to volunteer despite what type of activity it is. I’m excited to be a part of the Key Club board and get more students at Summit High School to join us!
All of our Key Club Board is super excited for this term & hopefully you got to find out some cool things about them! If you’d like to learn more about or want to contact them, feel free to email them! (Their information is on the back. )

What to Expect at DCON By: Sarah Banafe, Treasurer Anyone that is involved in Key Club is familiar with DCON. Just last week, I attended my first DCON and let me tell you it was nothing like I had expected. It was so much more. I knew everything I needed to know about forums, contests, luncheons, etc. but I did not prepare myself for the excitement. Admittedly, it was a bit overwhelming however that quickly dissolves once you learn how inviting the environment is. That's just one thing you can expect at DCON. 1. Team Bonding: I attended DCON unfamiliar with a few members of my Key Club, but I found that there is no better way to get to know someone than to spend the weekend with those who are just as motivated in your interests. With a shared passion of bettering your community, there is no doubt that you will truly bond with your team with the common interest and honestly, nothing bad can come out of that. 2. Get Peppy: If you are going to DCON, you must have fun! One of the best ways to get to know other Key Club Past and current Key Club Officers and Advisors at DCON members is by with them at the convention. You get to make so many new friends by cheering for or with them, it truly does become a sense of camaraderie among other Key Club members. So, go out and cheer your peers at awards and make new friend, it’s worth being silly for a few days. 3. Leadership: As Key Club we are all leaders. Although taking a leadership role can be intimidating, while at DCON you will learn many tips on how to become a better leader through forums. Forums may seem tedious at first, but I don’t where I would be without them. They offer encouraging advice for new and ongoing leaders which provide a sense of security and insight with your role in Key Club without overwhelming

DCON Recap By: Bushra Khaliq, Service Coordinator DCON was a very enjoyable experience for me. From the forums to the contests the event was a fun and beneficial to me starting my Service Coordinator term. When I first arrived at Sheraton hotel I attended the opening session. At the opening session were a variety of games. From the quidditch game to the wand making it was very creative. However, most important of all I met key clubbers from all over the T-O Key Club district. These key clubbers were kind and friendly. The next day I went to the forums. These forums showed me tips and advice on how to properly work with your officers and Key Club Kent Julian, Keynote Speaker with Summit Key Club members. Also, I learned the importance of communication. Communication is the glue that holds together key clubs from all over the district. If the officers do not communicate with their advisors or members, they will not be able to successfully manage their Key Club. I learned that Key Club is more than just gaining point and getting hours. It is “Sacrificing yourself in the service of others”, unknown. With this component also comes leadership and creativity. A leader must take responsibility of its officers and members. Without leadership, a club is set for failure. Also, creativity is important. As officers or advisors, we must make sure the members are enjoying their time and are active in service for their community. Every year they have a keynote speaker. This year the keynote speaker was Kent Julian. He quoted “E+R=O.” This means that the events in our live plus the response we make equals the outcome. He said that most of us believe that “E=O.” This means that if everything goes our way, we will have a positive outcome, but if something bad happens we will end up with a negative outcome. This belief is incorrect, because the way we respond to a negative event can change it into a positive one. This showed me that even if our club doesn’t win as many trophies as others, we are helping communities and making people smile That is what truly what matters from our work and effort. Overall DCON was filled with life lessons, morals, tips, and advice for our club. The forums, banquet, luncheon, and dance were all fun. We got to portray our hard work and help others. I learned that I control the outcome of my life, communication is key, and meeting new people and helping our community is all that really matters. From this experience, I can apply my knowledge and lessons to improve in any areas our club needs to.
