MANSFIELD PARKS & RECREATION
DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Staff has been working with Accessology, Too LLC since November on the development of an ADA Transition Plan for the parks and recreation system The consultant has completed the site evaluations and provided a draft plan to the department for review. Once these documents have been reviewed by staff, an implementation schedule will be developed with the consultant. The plan is expected to be presented to the MPFDC and City Council for adoption by the end of FY23
The financial sustainability project (aka cost recovery) is moving into the final phase After service categories were developed and beneficiaries of service were identified, the consultant completed a full analysis of our cost of services. Staff is now reviewing this work and will be drafting cost recovery goals for the service categories by the end of June. Recommended fees and charges will follow, with policy recommendations completing the project by the end of August
Parks and recreation staff are working closely with Mansfield Police on improved security cameras for the park system Staff will be meeting with vendors this month to determine the best technology that can be implemented that can provide live monitoring access to multiple departments. The parks with the most usage will be prioritized in phase one, with smaller parks being added in future years.

PARK OPERATIONS
BALL FIELDS AND COURTS
Annual summer plant material is on the way for the city’s medians, municipal buildings, and parks The beautification team is working on adding new plants to parking lot beds at the department’s public private partnerships along with improved irrigation and added moss boulders. Ongoing efforts are being made with repairs to irrigation leaks and lifting tree canopies to a safe and manageable height
Athletic fields were full of recreational players with end of the season games and tournaments. Construction of the new automated park entry gate was completed at the Skinner Sports Complex to help control vehicular access during open park hours. The complex also received further painting on fencing, bollards, scoreboards and more. Field allocation applications were received for baseball, softball, flag football, and soccer for the spring 2024 season
The parks, trails, and splash pads have been full of end-of-school year events. The two new splash pads at Gertie Barrett and McClendon Parks have been enjoyed by the community Communication and marketing efforts are underway to educate the public about the splash pads being for people only. Dogs are not allowed in the splash pad area for health and safety reasons. Due to the increased number of dogs in the park, Mutt Mitt stations have been added to Gertie Barrett Park to make sure dog waste is disposed of properly Park pavilion rentals are filling up for the summer.
The Park Operations team is working to further implement Green City GIS for asset management and work orders for park maintenance projects All efforts are being made to ensure the final landscape technicians are hired to make sure the team is fully staffed for the busy

CURRENT UPDATE
May was active as usual, with multiple department events and preparation for the kickoff of the award-winning 100 Hours of PLAY challenge. Just a few days since launching on June 1, the program already has more than triple the number of participants as last year, meaning it's going to be a very busy--very fun!--summer!
Our online presence has seen a considerable increase in traffic as a result of the program as well as the new park features; this month the 100 Hours of PLAY page and the Splash Pad information page each received more direct hits than the department homepage. This is due to a combination of heavy promotion and QR codes on signs and flyers that take users directly to the information they need versus navigating through the entire site As always, we aim to provide a welcoming, remarkable experience that is easy, efficient and enjoyable! The rest of the summer will be filled with the 100 Hours challenge (so many hours to count and events to host!), summer camp and event promotion, and city special events.
