Gold SASSA card issues resolved
The technical difficulty that intermittently affected social grants customers using the Postbank South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Gold Cards has been resolved for all ATM and Post Office branch transactions.
This means that SASSA customers using the Postbank SASSA Gold Cards can now access their social grants money via ATM's and Post Office branches. “The processing of the reversals of funds debited on the accounts that declined since Tuesday (September 5) due to a system error is underway. Beneficiaries that have attempted withdrawals since yesterday are urged to give this process some time before attempting any further transactions. It is anticipated that the funds will be reversed into all beneficiaries accounts approximately in the next 24 hours,” the Postbank said on Wednesday.

Postbank will continue providing detailed updates. “Social grants recipients are also advised that the technical challenge experienced with grants withdrawals since yesterday are an isolated incident that is not related to the validity of the Postbank SASSA Gold Cards. “SASSA Gold Cards remain valid as a means to accessing social grants payments despite the expiry date written on the cards until Postbank replaces the cards within cards replacement period granted to us by the Reserve Bank,” the Postbank said.

PRASA warns job seekers against fake website The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has warned the public of a fake website sent to unsuspecting job seekers informing them of the success of their job application, while requesting a refundable R250 to be paid for background checks. “The website, which may look real to an untrained eye, is illegitimate and fake. PRASA does not have a .org (dot org) domain or a dedicated vacancy website. PRASA does not charge job applicants for background checks, nor does our recruitment process involve payments,” the agency said on Monday. PRASA has advised the public to look out for the following warning signs when determining the legitimacy of an official website by the agency.
does not involve soliciting payments. PRASA is not affiliated to any third-party money transfer system or money markets for payments for recruitment processes. The font is not aligned to the C.I manual and the inconsistencies of the font are a red flag that the communique is fake. Be vigilant of suspicious URLs that do not make sense such as prasaverify@aol.com. “PRASA would like to urge the public to be alert of scammers taking advantage of the country’s unemployment rate and exploiting unsuspecting job seekers. If you come across any job scams or illegal employment activities, report them immediately to the proper authorities,” the agency said.
The URL, prasa-recruitment. org, is fake. PRASA’s official website is www.prasa.com.
Postbank’s technical teams are working on restoring the transactions inside the retailers to full capacity as there are still intermittent challenges with

15th BRICS Summit opens a new chapter The 15th BRICS Summit held at the Sandton Convention Centre during August was a success that 'heralded a new chapter' for the group. This is according to President Cyril Ramaphosa who addressed the nation on Sunday, September 3. “It was a historic Summit that heralded a new chapter for BRICS. “The summit was attended by the five BRICS member countries along with representatives of 61 other countries. Forty-six of the countries that attended were from our continent, Africa. This included 20 Heads of State and Government. We were also honoured
by the attendance of the United Nations Secretary-General Mr Antonio Guterres. “The success of the summit is a credit to our country and its people. It is another demonstration of our ability to host major international gatherings that have a significant impact on the conduct of international affairs far beyond our borders. Overall, many people have said that this was a most successful BRICS Summit,” he said. The President honed in on key decisions and outcomes that were taken during the summit, including the call for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations, including its Security Council. “This was a most significant
decision in view of the fact that it was supported by two BRICS members who are permanent members of the UN Security Council. The reform of the United Nations is important for South Africa and our continent Africa because we stand to benefit from a world that is more fair and from international institutions that are more democratic and more representative. “In taking this position, the BRICS leaders recognised the desire of many other countries to contribute to redefining the terms of international relations,” he said. On the second key outcome of the summit – which was to expand BRICS membership in-
vitations to Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – President Ramaphosa said: “Through an expanded BRICS, we will be able to better align the voices of those countries that seek a fairer global governance, financial, investment and trading system based on clear rules that apply equally to all countries.
“An expanded BRICS also means that we will be able to export more of our products to major markets and, as a result, we will be able to produce more and create more jobs. While an expanded BRICS will be an important champion for the Global South, South Africa stands to benefit from its relationship with these countries.”
