TAYLOR WINS SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE Taylor Swift has emerged victorious in her legal battle with DJ David Mueller following accusations that he lifted her skirt and groped her ass at a concert in 2013. Swift took to the stand and told her side of the ‘groping’ story. “It was a definite grab…a very long grab. It was intentional. He stayed latched onto my bare ass cheek. I felt him grab onto my ass under my skirt.” Mueller, 55, said he may have made contact with Swift but denies any inappropriate behaviour. Swift’s bodyguard Greg Dent backed up her side of the story, saying he saw

MUSK DUMPS AMBER HEARD

Johnny Depp’s ex wife Amber Heard is in Australia licking her wounds following a very public dumping from technology tycoon Elon Musk. Elon called time on the year-long relationship after “hearing certain things about Amber that did not sit well with him.” According to sources Amber can be quite manipulative and Elon decided to jump ship

after hearing all about the actress and her “powers of persuasion”. Amber accused ex Johnny Depp of beating her up and divorced him in 2016 taking a large proportion of his fortune. Elon, worth a reported $12 billion as owner of Tesler and founder of Pay Pal, was obviously not taking any chances with this one. Amber is said to be devastated by the news.

ANNA & CHRIS: IT’S ALL OVER

Anna Faris and husband Chris Pratt have announced they are breaking up after eight years of marriage. Speculation was rife that Jennifer Lawrence, who got close to Chris during the filming of ‘Passengers’ last year was to blame for the split. However, both parties have vehemently denied these claims. More recently AMP News has reported the real reason behind the split is the fact that Chris’ career has rocketed and he feels he has “outgrown”

his less famous wife. Chris has recently starred in films such as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Passengers’ and ‘Jurassic World’ while Anna hasn’ t been in the limelight much since her comedic performances in films like ‘The House Bunny’ in 2008 because she has been raising their son Jack, aged 4. Whatever the real reason behind the split, we hope Anna moves onwards and upwards and finds her dream guy soon.

Mueller lift her skirt but could not see his hand actually touching her. “Someone would have had to been underneath me to see this and we certainly did not have anyone positioned there,” claimed Swift - receiving a few laughs from the Denver courtroom. Mueller claims Swift made up the story and got him fired and was attempting to sue for $1m in damages. Swift’s team claim they told the radio station about the incident but never asked for him to be fired. The Denver jury found fully in Taylor’s favour delivering a unanimous verdict. Wanting the trial to serve as an “example to other women,” the star had sought a single dollar in damages, which she was granted.

news BEYONCE WOWS WITH POST PREGNANCY FIGURE You would never have guessed Beyonce had given birth to twins just a few months ago. The 35year old mum of three dressed to impress in tiny shorts and a cropped yellow Fila vest as she enjoyed a night out at the Kendrick Lemar concert in LA. Bey gave birth to son Sir Carter and daughter Rumi on June 13 and has lost all her baby weight (and more) within a

matter of weeks. While she enjoyed a rare night out with her daughter Blue Ivy, 5, and gal pal Kelly Rowland, Beyonce has received backlash from fans who were not impressed with the ‘Drunk in Love’ singer drinking alcohol while she is supposedly breastfeeding her newborn twins. One fan wrote: “Didn’t know breastfeeding and wine go well together?”

AMIR KHAN & ANTHONY JOSHUA KISS AND MAKE UP

Since a fake Snapchat conversation with Amir’s wife Faryal and Anthony Joshua has been proven to be a scam both boxers have recalled their angry tweets and publicly made up. Amir wrote to Anthony “Glad all is cleared up and all lies. I got angry like any man would. Good to know. All the best.” Although

SINEAD CRY FOR HELP

Irish singer Sinead O’ Connor has checked into a hospital in New Jersey following a very alarming 12 minute Facebook video where she said she was suicidal and struggling to find the will to live. Speaking from a messy Travelodge room, the ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ singer was clearly shaken and fighting back tears, saying she's ready to go to be with

PASS THE BUCKET

Irish model Vogue Williams and ‘Made In Chelsea’ star James Matthews are putting on even more stomach churning PDA’s this time buying each other matching initialed signet rings and posting smiley “Yes we are that couple” pics on social media. Vogue and James have already said they call each other 20 times a day and despite

unfortunately the same could not be said for Amir and his wife, who are still splitting. According to Amir “I have still made my decision to leave Faryal. It happens in life. The relationship was getting unhealthy. I wish her all the best.” The couple married in 2013 in a lavish New York ceremony and have a 3-year old daughter Lamaisah.

her mum. “I’ve been wanting to go for two f***ing years. I’m all by myself, there’s absolutely no one in my life.” Sinead’s mum died when the singer was only 19 and the star has battled with bipolar disorder for 12 years. Elsewhere in the video, the now 50-year-old singer says she hopes the video can help others who are struggling with mental illness.

Vogue not being invited to James’ brothers wedding they continue to flood each others Instagram’s declaring their love for each other. Where was the wedding invite then?! With the news that fellow MIC cast members Millie Makintosh and Hugo Taylor are getting married the fame hungry duo must be lusting for more column inches.

PRINCES PROTECT DIANA

Princes William and Harry are set to talk extensively about their beloved mother Diana in a new documentary to mark the 20th anniversary of her death on NBC in the US. The sons both speak of their love and respect for their mum dubbed ‘The People’s Princess’ and share their frustration publicly for the first time that they could not protect her during that fateful night in Paris when Diana tragically died. Prince William poignantly says:

“Part of the reason why Harry and I want to do this is because we feel we owe it to her. I think an element of it is feeling like we let her down when she was younger. We could not protect her. “We feel we at least owe her 20 years on to stand up for her name and remind everybody of the character and the person that she was. We are doing our duties as sons in protecting her now.” The documentary called ‘Diana 7 Days’ is being aired on September 1.

FOR HIM # MAKEUPFORMEN

WHAT'S TRENDING...

Male make-up counters could become a reality within five years, the UK boss of L'Oreal has said, as it is no longer a taboo for the "selfie generation". In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Vismay Sharma, the cosmetics giant's UK managing director, said that demand for make-up among men was growing fast. He said male targeted make-up counters could be a reality in five to seven years. According to Sharma taboos are changing and make-up is becoming more accepted for men: "Today you have a very small proportion of men who want to use make-up products but that proportion is growing and it will continue to grow. I think it’s just awareness - two things are happening, men know they can use make-up, and they know what it does when you use it,” he said. "The second thing is that the taboos are going, so between my generation and my son's generation the taboos are very different." Last year 26-year-old beauty blogger, Gary Thompson, became the first man to star in a make-up advert. Featuring in L'Oreal's True Match Foundation advert alongside celebrities including Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Gary talks about finally being true to himself and embracing who he is. At the time he said: "I think we've come far with accepting men wearing make-up. If you look at it five years' ago, if you thought of men wearing make-up you'd think of extreme sparkly eyeshadow but today it doesn't have to be like that.

FASHION NEWS CRAIG DAVID LAUNCHES FASHION LINE Yep he can sing, write, perform (5 times

in Marbella this summer) now the music impresario has launched a fashion collection at Selfridges. We have to say we’re pretty impressed by the range of urban inspired streetwear all featuring typography and lyrics from his songs, album covers and a nod to the uniquely British culture of the early UK garage scene. Craig David said, “I’m really honoured to be working together with Selfridges to launch this collection. I wanted to create a fresh and exciting new clothing line for my fans that represents where I am musically today, but also influenced by the style of where I came from.” The collection is available now exclusively at Selfridges’ stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester and from Selfridges' website.

YEEZY GETS COLOURFUL

Kanye West and Adidas have plans to release several colourful Yeezy Boosts in the coming months, including a "Blue Tint" colourway and a "Semi-Frozen Yellow.” In addition to those upcoming releases, a brand new Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 has just surfaced, and just like the aforementioned shoes it features an unconventional Yeezy colourway, steering away from the brands typical neutral tones. The kicks, which are being billed as the "Red Night" Yeezy Boost, are built on a combination of "Red Night/Chalk Purple/Chalk Pink." Yeezy is now billed as the second most powerful fashion brand, behind Gucci.

FITTED SHIRTS

Fitted shirts are all the rage and the motto for this season is most definitely “the tighter the better.” According to fashion designers tailoring has turned on its head with shirts and trousers given a street edge by looking as tight fitting as possible. Good for you muscly types out there as its shows off all your hard work in the gym.

GEEK CHIC AT FENDI

Fendi has just revealed its Autumn/ Winter 2017 ad campaign and it centres heavily on geek chic. The Italian menswear brand mixes sport luxe bright tops with sharp tailoring for a dressed down look. Tailored trousers were paired with fur jackets and large clutch bags in a Great Outdoors inspired shoot. Think polar opposites when pairing your staple wardrobe items to make a statement.

FITTED JUMPERS

CUBAN HEELS ARE BACK IN VOGUE

A whole host of A Listers including Harry Styles, Lenny Kravitz, Kanye West and Justin Bieber are bucking the trend to don heels of late. Luckily we’re not talking stilettos but famed variations of the original Chelsea Boot have been seen on these dapper folk. As well as looking more manly than some boots doing the rounds these hard wearing leather boots can add a choice few inches to the wearer. Although make sure if you choose to wear you are not tall (you will look ridiculous) or short (you will like you’re trying to hard – think Tom Cruise on the red carpet.)

The same rule applies for jumpers guys, go for a soft touch wool mix jumper that shows off every ab and bicep muscle. If you’ve worked hard for your summer body this means you can show it off well into the Autumn/Winter months. Go for texture and patterns to break from the norm like the Armani and ASOS stylist pics below.

FOR HER From the iconic Marilyn Monroe to supermodel Kate Moss and actress Marian Cotillard, the world’s most famous women have adorned the cutesy print at one time or another. Fast forward to September 2017 and the print has been reworked as part of the 80’s revival that has shown frills and bardot sleeves come to the forefront of fashion this Summer. So how

GIGI ROCKS VINTAGE STAR WARS TEE

Gigi Hadid left her New York apartment last month wearing this vintage Star Wars T-Shirt as movie tees become the new rock band tee, according to the fashion pack. Gigi, 22, wore the intergalactic T-shirt as a homage to the George Lucas franchise as she is a big fan. While rock tees are still in – more and more celebs are giving a nod to their favourite films and TV shows by wearing it emblazoned on their chests. Actress Bella Thorne has been pictured with a Mighty Morphins tee and Megan Fox also gave a nod to Star Wars.

#POLKADOTS do you wear the print so you channel Moss and less Minnie Mouse? The key is not to overdo mixtures of the print and keep to one size in key colour ways namely black and white, red and white or navy blue and white like the Duchess of Cambridge at Wimbledon. Keep accessories plain and minimalistic – the polka dot print says it all.

BRINGING SEXY BACK

As Justin Timberlake so eloquently put it. This September backless or part backless dresses are all the rage. Be sure to show yours off with minimal tan lines (!) from these Skinted and Minted versions from ASOS and Religion Clothing.

CUT OUT HEELED BOOTS

As the weather cools a bit it’s time to bring out the cut out ankle boots – a chic alternative to high heels and instantly ‘rock chicks’ a classic party dress or skirt. Also a comfort saver for those long nights on the dancefloor as these have a far more forgiving heel than stilettos.

Marbella based fashion designer Caroline Azzi has just released a new line of exclusive rings, bracelets and cuffs. Check out the season look book at www.carolineazzi.com.

RUSSIAN VOLUME LASHES

We are literally buzzing about the new Russian Volume Lashes from Lash Crowd in Puerto Banus. In case you are unfamiliar with experimenting with false lashes traditional lash extensions involve one extension being applied to each natural lash. The Russian Volume technique involves two to six very lightweight lashes being applied to each lash. The idea is to create a fuller, voluminous look rather than just length, which can sometimes lead to the spidery effect (think Camilla from ‘Love Island’ – not a good look). The stylists at Lash Crowd are highly trained and the first salon in Puerto Banus to specialise in this type of extensions. They keep the health of your natural lashes in mind, so you do not need to fear damaging effects once the extensions naturally fall out. Priced at €120 for a full set that it is certainly more on the expensive side – but well worth it. Every 2-3 weeks they will need a fill appointment at €50 but some clients opt for a weekly tidy up for €25. There is no need to add mascara to Russian Lashes so you can literally get up in the morning and go. Perfect for you busy ladies out there. See www.lashcrowd.com for more information.

5 SPICE SALMON TACOS (Cooking/Prep Time: 30 minutes)

A fresh, light and healthy way to enjoy tacos this summer. Courtesy of Jamie Oliver this recipe is packed full of flavour and is light enough to enjoy in the Marbella sun while still leaving room for dessert and a much needed chilled glass of vino. INGREDIENTS (Serves 4) • 4 x 125 g salmon fillets, skin on, from sustainable sources • 2-3 teaspoons five spice powder • olive oil • ½ a bunch of fresh coriander • ½ a bunch of fresh mint • 150 g plain fat-free yoghurt • 1 cucumber • 2 shallots • 1 fresh red chilli • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar • 1 pinch of sugar • 4 corn or flour tortillas Directions 1. Rub the salmon flesh (but not the skin) with the five spice, a drizzle of oil and a good pinch of sea salt and black pepper. 2. Heat a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and place the salmon skin-side down in the pan and cook for 8 to 9 minutes or until nearly cooked through and the skin is crispy. 3. Flip them over, immediately remove from the heat and allow to finish cooking through in the residual heat. 4. Save a few coriander sprigs to one side, then pick and finely chop the remaining coriander and the mint leaves. Combine with the yoghurt, and season to taste. 5. Using a speed-peeler, peel the cucumber into

ribbons and place in a bowl. Peel and finely slice the shallots and chilli, then add to the bowl. Sprinkle over the vinegar, sugar and a pinch of salt, and mix with your hands to combine the flavours. 6. Place a tortilla on each plate and flake over the salmon fillets, including any crispy skin. Add a dollop of the herby yoghurt, the minty cucumber (squeezing out any liquid) and pick over the reserved coriander leaves. Roll up and enjoy.

Wine Pairing Citrusy whites tend to be best when thinking of pairing wines to fish tacos. A Vinho Verde from Portugal or Txacoli from Spain have a salty minerality and super bright acidity that acts like a spritz of lime. These are the ultimate beach wines, and as fish tacos are the ultimate beach food, this pairing is a match made in heaven. Although if you prefer wines with a touch more body and fruit, try a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Sauvignons tend to have a mix of citrus and tropical flavours and a herbal quality that’s great with both the salmon and spice in Jamie Oliver’s recipe.

KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

KESHA: RAINBOW

THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE

Fans of the first instalment of ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ back in 2014 will love this second feature film from ‘Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’ producer & director Matthew Vaughn, released on September 22. Kingsman, taken from the comic book titled The Secret Service introduced the world to the Kingsman - an independent, UK based international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organisation in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organisations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy, played by Taron Egerton. The all-star cast consists of Oscar winner Colin Firth who reprises the role of Harry Hart and a new villain played by fellow Oscar winner Julianne Moore called Poppy. The drop dead Channing Tatum (of Magic Mike fame) plays a new agent, Agent Tequila, and Brit actor Mark Strong is back too. In a film full to the brim of Oscar Winners ‘Monsters Ball’ actress Halle Berry also plays a central part as Eggsy’s new sidekick Ginger.

Wild child Kesha has been a little bit quiet of late. Embroiled in a bitter legal battle with her collaborator and superproducer Dr Luke, whom the singer accused of physical and emotional abuse. Since 2012 Kesha has obviously been working hard behind the scenes as this beautiful new album Rainbow clearly shows. She manages to blend a perfect mix of her Nashville Tenessee roots (her mum is Nashville songwriter Pebe Sebert) and her classic pop/ club heritage (with hits such as ‘Tik Tok’ and ‘Die Young’ under her belt) she has now created some seriously interesting beats and ballads. Plus there is eloquence in her lyrics now – a clear factor she was lacking in her early twenties. Kesha also executive-produced the album, working with a team that included everyone from Ryan Lewis to Ben Folds to her mother. Within this she achieves a careful balance of her diverse musical selves and she definitely utilises the talents of the people she uses to co-produce. From the honest opening track ‘Bastards’ to the ever-truthful and newsworthy track ‘Let Em Talk’ Kesha dips and dives through the album gracefully. With great guitar riffs and poetic lyrics – coupled with her mesmerising voice, this is one hell of a comeback album. Plus, there’s even better news. Kesha has dropped the dollar sign from her name (Ke$ha – as she was known back in the day). Whoop whoop. The girl and the singer have come of age.

Scream meets Glee in this hotlyanticipated new novel from the bestselling author of ‘Anna’ and the ‘French Kiss.’ This also marks Stephanie Perkins first horror novel, a book she has been eluding to writing since 2012. The plot sounds very Scream-esque but of course there is a twist! One-by-one, the students of Osborne High are dying in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, the dark secrets among them must finally be confronted. International bestselling author Perkins returns with a fresh take on the classic slasher story that’s fun, quickwitted, and completely impossible to put down. Well you should hope so being five years in the making! Stephanie gives away a bit more about the book on her website, saying: The killer is human. The weapon is a knife. And as odd as this may sound, it's not actually that different from my other books. There's still an intriguing boy, making out, self-awareness, and plenty of friends chatting and eating and gossiping together. There just also happens to be a serial killer and lots and lots of death. Ha! This one is definitely not for the faint hearted and rumour has it it’s being tipped to make into a feature film. So in summary, this is a great book for Summer holiday reading – one you won’t be able to put down till you find out who the killer is. You’ll get to the end to find out even quicker than you think.

Charley Caradas Queen of Clubs

C

harley Caradas is joint owner of the new nightclub Mirage in Puerto Banus. The club opened in April of this year and has been talk of the town since. Boasting a customised FunktionOne sound system, 10 point Megatron CO2 system and 10 metre high HD video wall – Mirage has all the mod cons of any Ibiza superclub. Plus the group’s stellar line-up of top acts including Little Wayne, Paris Hilton, Tom Zanetti and Jason Derulo as well as a weekly Friday residency from Ministry of Sound Marbella Collections’ DJ Colin Francis has ensured Mirage is packed week in, week out. We had the pleasure of catching up with Charley to find out more about the brains (and beauty) behind the outfit.

SO CHARLEY HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN THROUGH SUCH A SUCCESSFUL FIRST SUMMER AT MIRAGE? It feels amazing I'm extremely happy with how the season has gone, I feel like Mirage is firmly on the map now thank god.

WAS THERE ANY DOUBTS IN YOUR MIND THAT IT MIGHT NOT ALL COME TOGETHER LIKE IT HAS?

Erm no I wouldn't say I had doubt in the club as such. I knew it was going to look stunning because we simply wouldn't have opened our doors until it filled our expectations. I also knew that we had a fantastic line up for the summer and an amazing team so all these things I was extremely confident on!! The thing I worried about most was tourism!!! Is Marbella going to have a good summer?! This was my main worry, I knew if the port was busy the club would sell itself.

HAS IT EXCEEDED YOUR EXPECTATIONS?

It reached my expectations!! This was my dream for a VERY long time so I had extremely high expectations for Mirage, to exceed them would have been pretty much impossible but it definitely reached my expectations which is amazing.

WHAT WAS YOUR PERSONAL VISION FOR MIRAGE?

To bring some class back to the port! I wanted people to walk into the club and think WOW. I envisioned a beautiful extravagant club that’s comfortable but also has the ability to go off!!!!!! And that's what we got!! I'm going to offend other club owners by saying this but the clubs in the port have become a bit tacky they spend little to no money on the main things that make a club a club, like the sound system and entertainment and we wanted to raise the bar and I truly believed we have done this.

HOW LONG DID THE CLUB TAKE FROM INITITAL INCEPTION TO CREATION?

Awww too long. We signed in October but the builders were over confident so they didn't start till January. And if course we were

34 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 34

waving the last of the builders off on opening night 28th April!!!! Standard for any build!! I've done enough projects now to know it doesn't matter how much time you have to build - it could be years - they will still be finishing off the day you open!

DID ANYTHING GO WRONG?

Nothing major considering the size of the project to be honest. The builders, Continental Design, have done an amazing job. There was of course points during the building stage where I wanted to punch a few of them but again that's standard for any build. All said and done they were hands down the best I have worked with on a project and bare in mind this really was a huge project so plenty of places they could have messed up but they didn't they produced exactly what they promised and the whole team where really lovely to work with. No question of a doubt I would use them on my next project.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE NIGHT SO FAR AT MIRAGE?

29th of April the night after opening night. Opening night was a bit of a blur we had all moved into the club the final few weeks of building stressing over the final touches so when we finally opened we were exhausted and manic busy making sure everything ran well. The second night 29th we had Andrea Olivia and I remember standing in the far corner of the club with my business partners looking at our new baby absolutely packed looking beautiful and going off. Everyone was dancing and having a great time and I got that full feeling in my chest where I felt proud we had done what we set out to do!!! It was a wonderful moment.

YOU HAVE GOT TO MEET A WHOLE HOST OF FAMOUS FACES – WHO DID YOU GET ALONG BEST WITH AND WHY?

Yes I have met quite a lot of famous faces this year some that we booked as artists and others that simply came to party at Mirage but I'm not really one to talk to them. The most I do is get a quick picture with them! Anyone that knows me knows I'm not a chatty catty with people I don't know I have very little interest in it but my business partner Phil is king at this and I'm more then happy to leave him to it. I do love Wally Lopez I know he is not as famous as some of the artists we have had but he is just a really lovely normal dude. We have booked him a few times and I just love his attitude a genuinely lovely guy and a wicked DJ.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO GO TO YOUR BABY - MIRAGE?

I'm there 5 nights a week working, I've got drunk once in there as it was my mates hen party but I was still supposed to be "working" that night. I haven't had a night out in the club yet.

DO YOU GET TO LET YOUR HAIR DOWN OR DOES IT FEEL LIKE WORK?

No I don't let my hair down!! I'd like to sound much cooler and say yeah I'm the life and soul of the party but that would be the biggest lie I ever told. I’m zero fun at work!!! I’m the figures women I do the door on weekends and big nights to make sure the door makes the money it should make and the rest of the time I'm doing everything to do with the money.

IT’S QUITE RARE TO HAVE A WOMAN AT THE HELM OF SUCH A BIG AND SUCCESSFUL NIGHTCLUB – DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE BREAKING BARRIERS FOR WOMEN IN THE CLUB SCENE? I'd like that to be true I doubt it actually is but it would be nice if I was. I can tell you now it's not a job for the faint hearted - club life is hard.

HOW DID YOU COME TO GET INVOLVED IN NIGHTCLUBS IN THE FIRST PLACE?

I always dreamed of having my own club and then my previous employers agreed to invest in a club so I asked Phil my friend at the time to do it with me, him running the promotions and me the club. He agreed and both of us was gifted shares to make the project a success which we did and after 5 years once we had achieved everything we felt we could we sold our shares and myself Phil and Igor left to buy our own club.

YOU WON THE MARBELLA AWARD 2016 FOR YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN NIGHTCLUB AQWA MIST – DO YOU THINK MIRAGE COULD WIN THIS YEAR?

Yes both myself Phil and Igor were very happy to have won that award it was great. Especially as myself and Phil had sold our shares at the end of last summer knowing we had done all you could do with Aqwa and winning that award was the proof of that. I can't see how Mirage couldn't possibly win the award this year!! Mirage makes Aqwa look like a school disco we have had an undeniably incredible summer so yes I do really hope we win this year.

HOW WOULD YOU AND THE TEAM CELEBRATE IF YOU DID?

my restaurant The Boardwalk which I own with my twin sister. Normally The Boardwalk is open all year round but we decided to close this year so I'm super excited to spend quality time with my twin and my nephews. We're all going on holiday to Borneo in November and I'm so excited for Christmas because again normally we are sorting the restaurant stuff but this year we can just enjoy, my elder sister just got married so the family has expanded it's going to be nice to just be together. I'm also really excited to be able to go to bed every night with my boyfriend that's a real crappy part of nightlife you only go to bed with your partner on your night off. So I'm excited for this and to have movie nights with him and the dogs. I'm such a sad drip I look forward to the basic things for the winter.

WHAT ABOUT 2018 - ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL PLANS IN PLACE YET?

We will have an amazing line up for the club but nothing pinned down yet.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN MARBELLA AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT MOST?

I been here 17 years now I love so many things about it I love that it's seasonal so we have a manic period then a chill period nothing's 9 to 5 in Marbella, life is never boring and I think it's absolutely beautiful place to live I just love it here.

YOUR FAMILY ARE ALSO SUCCESSFUL VENUE OWNERS – WHATS THE SECRET TO YOUR SUCCESS?

I think we're all strong women we don't take no for an answer and we're very hard working. These are obviously important aspects to being a success but I'm also a firm believer in what goes around comes around. We are very aware that we are blessed and so we do a lot of charity work all year round for both orphans and animals. I believe this balance plays a part in our success!!! It's important to give back I don't believe there is anything more unattractive then a greedy person I hope to always be successful but I will never be greedy.

It would definitely be a very proud moment if we do so we would have to have a big night in the club with all the staff.

ARE THERE ANY PLANS TO OPEN OVER WINTER?

We are playing it by ear at the moment 100% we will have Halloween party but after that we will see. We're definitely up for staying open at weekends November and December but we're waiting to see what the port is like before making our final decision. If we decide to open then we will open New Year but if we close November and December I don't think we will bother. We will just re open next year either in March or April.

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO RELAX AFTER SUCH A BUSY SUMMER?

To book tickets and tables for any upcoming Mirage event (check out our calendar for the full monthly line up) or visit www.miragemarbella.es or call/whatsapp: +34 678 250 596

Well this winter is going to be very relaxing because I'm also closing

CRACKING IT Charli (the XCX stands for “Kiss Charli Kiss” - her old MSN Messenger username) wrote and sang on the smash electropop hit ‘I Love It’ for the Scandinavian duo Icona Pop. The track sold more than 2.5 million copies in the US and was such an edgy and catchy song it became known as “the US soundtrack to summer.” She also co-wrote and provided vocals for the Iggy Azalea track, ‘Fancy’ which sold 7 million copies worldwide and became 2014’s most streamed track on Spotify in the States. Americans definitely got Charli XCX first. In May 2015, her breakthrough single ‘Boom Clap’ featured on the soundtrack to the US box office film

Charli XCX, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, is a rarity in the music industry. Unlike other Brit hopefuls (the beauty was born and lives in Hertfordshire) she cracked the US market well before becoming a force to be reckoned with in the UK. 42 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 34

"I realised that I just wanted to be a f***ing boss." ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ catapulted her to further superstardom. As a result she toured the US with her own headline show, “Girl Power”, and was awarded “Hit Maker of the Year” at the 9th Annual Billboard Women in Music Awards. Not that the Brits and Europeans missed a trick here…they were soon to follow. Charli had a few years out partying in Brazil and dating a producer 11 years her senior. It was her time to “grow up” away from the media spotlight. It wasn’t until 2015 that the singer acknowledged her real calling. “I realised that I just wanted to be a f***ing boss. I decided I didn’t have to choose between being an artist and

being a songwriter and just started to do both. I felt ready to go and make songs and not feel worried about making a cool record or getting a hit. I just wanted to make songs that I really like. “I figured out who I was; it took me ages but was so liberating and amazing. I think it’d be cool for young girls, especially, not to worry about what people think of them and not try to replicate what they think is the right thing to do.” Despite being only the tender age of 25 now, Charli XCX has 4 albums under her well styled belt. Charli made her first album aged only 14, back

in 2007, with money she was loaned from her parents - which she was quick to dismiss as an “experiment!” To this day, she is slightly annoyed that her early tracks, including the strangely titled ‘I Wanna Be Darth Vadar’ and ‘Dinosaur Sex’ are still easily found online. “I don’t count that as the beginning of my career. But whatever. Everyone did embarrassing s**t when they were 14. My mistakes are just live online for everyone to hear!” she admits. However it was exactly this – and her successful My Space page – which alerted industry music moguls to the young, raw talent. Charli also interestingly used to perform at Warehouse raves in London when she was too young to even have a drink at them! She was briefly signed by Asylum Records in 2010 but Warner Music was the label that catapulted her to success. Her second album, her first proper studio album signed as an artist, entitled ‘True Romance’ was released in 2013 and the third, ‘Sucker’ released the following year to critical acclain. Charli XCX’s stock was starting to rise at home. She opened for Katy Perry on the European leg of her Prismatic World Tour and later headlined her own UK tour. She also featured alongside R&B artist Tinashe

on rapper Ty Dolla Sign’s single ‘Drop That Kitty.’ So far this year she has launched her mixtape ‘Number 1 Angel’ in March to rave reviews but has said her new (as yet untitled) album originally scheduled for 2017 will not be out till early 2018. She has been working on her video for the first single ‘Boys’ which she also directed and stars a parade of preening male celebrities. Whether you’re a fan of Charli XCX or not you have to admit she is a true all rounder; writer, lyricist, singer, dancer, director and she knows the direction she wants to head in. Whilst she was embarrassed about her pop heritage she has now firmly embraced it – and blends a perfect mix of electropop, breathy singing and clever lyrics to provide mass appeal in the US, Europe and now finally the UK.

You can catch Charli XCX on the Main Stage at MTV Gibraltar Calling on Saturday 2 September. Get your tickets for the event at www.gibraltarcalling.com

MARBELLA

UNCOVERED W

e all know Marbella is one of Europe´s top holiday destinations. This year a staggering 10.2 million holidaymakers are expected to descend on our tiny stretch of shore, up from 9.4 million last year.

We certainly have it all – the best beaches, the best nightlife, international restaurants, world class entertainment – plus added to this a staggering 321 sunny days a year. Plus, figures from the official Andalucian tourism body also estimate that €8.4 billion is spent a year by tourists in Marbella. What we are all unsure of here at Marbella Rocks headquarters is exactly what these high spending bunch of Brit holidaymakers are REALLY getting up to. So in the name of investigative journalism (and our love of hanging around all the best beach clubs) we have compiled our very own Marbella Rocks – Marbella Uncovered Survey by asking 250 people aged 18-30 what it is really like holidaying in the party capital of Europe…. and the REAL TRUTH about Marbella.

POLO: THE SPORT OF KINGS For everyone

P

olo, once seen as a sport dominated by kings and the ruling class originally dating back to 600 BC, has never enjoyed the mass appeal it has today. It is estimated that there are 1 billion polo fans worldwide and the sport is played in over 90 countries. The popularity of polo is buoyed on even more by the fact that in this gorgeous Spanish climate, every day is geared towards being outside in the sunshine and beautiful, lush green grass setting of the polo fields, where people can soak up the atmosphere, speed and thrill of a high octane polo game. Polo is considered one of the most exhilarating and addictive sports in the world and it has never been easier for us normal, everyday folk to play. Maybe you have already been sitting on the sidelines watching a polo match with a touch of envy? Well not anymore. Polo Valley in Sotogrande will get you into the saddle.

52 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 34

It's easy to start polo and become a polo player, and Polo Valley can guarantee you will love it. If you are already an experienced player and have the polo bug, Polo Valley in Sotogrande, is the place where you can practice, improve and have fun. Plus, Sotogrande (just a short 30 minute drive from Marbella) has it all for the discerning polo fan or player. Steeped in history with the first world famous Gold Cup matching starting in 1971, it is one of the foremost important places on the world map of polo. This year’s 47th International Tournament attracted the world’s best teams, players, fans and media coverage in all the major countries of Europe, Latin America and the US. Marbella Rocks had the pleasure of catching up with Polo Valley Director Chris Byrne to find out more about the services Polo Valley has to offer.

How long has Polo Valley in Sotogrande been running?

Polo Valley has been open for two years now. We built the facility in 2015 and opened at the start of 2016. Now in our second operational year, we have expanded our team and acquired more ponies and have some exciting plans for 2018. It’s great to hear the positive feedback from clients and to see so many of them returning for more of the Polo Valley experience.

And how long has Powder Byrne, the organisation behind Polo Valley been going for?

Powder Byrne, the luxury holiday company behind Polo Valley was established in 1985. As you can imagine, Powder Byrne bring an experienced team of experts to our new enterprise.

What was the goal when starting Polo Valley?

Our goal is simple - to get more people learning and playing polo. We believe that polo is undoubtedly the most addictive sport in the world, not only the sport itself but the lifestyle too. The problem is that polo as a sport is incredibly inaccessible – and that’s what we at Polo Valley want to change. Anyone can learn to play polo.

Do you run courses for any age group?

Our minimum age for children, mainly for safety reasons is seven years old. Other than our specifically designed children programmes, our client’s typically range from mid/early twenties to late fifties however we have no age restrictions. Due to our different programmes and team of coaches we are able to cater for a range of clients whether they are sessions exclusively for children, families or adults/individuals.

How big is the staffing team at Polo Valley Sotogrande?

Currently the team is made up of 15 -20 people depending on the season.

Where do you enlist your teachers?

A lot of time and thought goes into recruiting the right coach for lessons here at Polo Valley, they have to be professional, experienced and have a real passion for teaching and polo of course. Tom Meyrick is our resident Polo Manager and coach, we also work with several local coaches and professional players: Diogo, a 5 goal professional from Portugal, who is based in Sotogrande all year round as well as Hernan Pieres a 3 goal Argentine player from the famous ‘Pieres’ polo dynasty.

Could this be something for the whole family to try?

Absolutely. We have had several families stay and play with us this year and they have absolutely loved the experience, and have since re-booked for more polo action in 2018. Family sessions are something we love to organise, the different ability levels within a family can easily be worked into our lesson programme. Family sessions are a great way to get the whole family together and to really enjoy either a one-off experience day or to pick up a new family passion all together.

And do you have courses for any ability of polo player?

Yes we do, clients book beginner or player polo days depending on ability and we always split morning sessions and practise matches into beginner and player groups to ensure the appropriate environment, tuition and horses are allocated to each player.

Have any of them been world class polo players?

Yes, each coach has played to a very high standard and achieved great success at different points in their polo careers.

POLO: RULES OF PLAY It is not as hard as you may think

1. A polo match lasts between 4 and 8 chukkers. One chukker is 7 minutes of play.

2. Ends are changed after every goal. 3. The most important rule is right of way. During play

4. 5. 6.

there is an imaginary line of ball. When a player has established that line, if another player crosses it close enough to be dangerous or causes the first player to slow, a foul is committed and a penalty given. A player may use his horse to push another player away from the ball, or hook an opponent's stick There is a half time interval during which spectators are expected to "tread in", or stomp back the divots. Handicaps range from -2 to the perfect 10.

If so who and who did they play for?

An example would be Tom playing the Queens Cup for Zacara. Polo players play for many teams throughout their careers and even each season most play for several teams.

Polo is described as one of the most fun and exhilarating sports in the world – is learning the game as fun?

Learning the game is extremely addictive. The feeling of connecting with the ball is indescribably satisfying; after your first lesson there is an urge to practise and improve as much as possible. It has everything you could possibly want in a sport or hobby – it’s exhilarating and addictive, requires teamwork and skill and you must develop a bond/relationship with your ponies.

If someone who had never had riding experience wanted to play polo – how long would it take them to learn?

That is very dependent on the individual and how much time, effort and resources they would like to put into it but with the right mentality and openness to learn we can and have take someone completely new to the sport/riding and get them playing controlled matches within 2 days of first picking up a polo mallet.

54 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 34

The combination of easy, safe horses and excellent coaching means that we pride ourselves on kick starting polo careers.

Sotogrande is synonymous with world class polo – hosting the Gold, Silver and Bronze Cups with matches every weekend March to September. Is this an added draw to Polo Valley?

Absolutely. People come to watch polo at Santa Maria and then can come to give it a go with us. Our set up is very complimentary to the High, Medium and Low goal tournaments - most people never consider polo is something they can actually take up themselves, until they realise that with us at Polo Valley it’s absolutely possible.

What polo fields do your participants play on?

We have a perfectly manicured Tifton polo field at our property for guests to learn and play on. We also work with Santa Maria and use their facilities and fields for special events and tournaments.

For those coming to experience a week at Polo Valley – where would they enjoy accommodation?

If relaxation and ease of location is a priority then guests always enjoy staying onsite at our guest house at Polo Valley. There is a great atmosphere onsite, where you can soak up the polo lifestyle. The unique setting amongst the horses, palm trees and nearby river make for a very special environment, despite only being a short 15 minutes drive from the centre of Sotogrande.

Polo is also described as the Sport of Kings. Many joke because it is so expensive. How much do courses start from at Polo Valley?

A polo lesson costs €150 ex vat and runs for slightly over an hour with one of our coaches. An intense beginner week (morning and afternoon sessions, 6 times a week) comes to €2,100 ex vat.

Enquire today and begin your polo experience by visiting www.polovalley.co.uk or call +34 951 979 528.

M

yself and my wife Jules came to the coast 12 years ago in 2005, when we opened our first salon in Guadalmansa. Since then we have always been looking for an ideal location for a second salon. Last Christmas we had a call from a friend Karim asking us if we were interested in sharing a local-commercial unit in the commercial center of Los Halcones, Benahavis. Apparently Banco Popular were closing down a branch next to his existing restaurant called Prado and he needed a little more space and so we split the unit. For those of you not familiar with the area, it’s a 5 minute drive from San Pedro, straight up the Ronda road. Los Halcones commercial center is a busy area with bars, restaurants, a supermarket and a pharmacy and a perfect location for a new hair and beauty salon and no others are in a 3 mile radius. Opening a new business is exciting, stressful, very tiring and at times you think what the hell are we doing?! There are so many things to do that its sometimes difficult to know what to do first but obviously the first thing is to work out how much you think it will cost to make a salon (or indeed any new business venture) and can you afford it. Have a budget and try and stick to it - obviously allowing an extra 10% for unforseen expenses. We were eager to try and replicate what had already worked at the other salon: hair, beauty and nails.

Next a floor plan and work out where reception, backwashes, styling units, pedicure area, manicure table, beauty room, toilet etc making sure you are meticulously measuring so that you have allowed enough space for clients and staff to be comfortable. We were fortunate to find a great builder that could interpret our ideas. His name was Manolo and every morning we would meet at 8am to run through the project. I would also meet with the electrician, carpenter and plumber most days between 8am and 9am and give them direction and then come down to the salon in Guadalmansa to do a full days work, then back up to the new salon at 9pm to check on the progress - doing a few jobs myself and leaving around midnight. This routine went on for the next 6 weeks. For all the furniture I contacted Vezzosi in Italy, they had made the furniture in the existing salon and it still looked fantastic. The Italians have a way of making furniture stylish, functional and very sexy. We still favored the wenge and brushed aluminium it seemed timeless but still contemporary. They promised me they would do a special order and make all the furniture in 2 weeks – amazing - as its normally a 6 week turnaround. I wanted to install massaging backwashes in the new salon as they had been fantastic at the other salon for the last 12 years and clients love them. The new system incorporated into the chairs is an 'air wave' massage system - very expensive but worth it! So with all the furniture ordered and the work half complete it was now time to concentrate on finding more staff and building a team. This is the tricky part as its not just about the skillset but also about the right personalities. We decided that it would be best to add 3 or 4 new staff to the existing team and rotate everyone at the new salon rather than have a new team at the new salon. At least that way everyone would be working at both salons. Money disappears very quickly with a new business and at times you worry about the budget but I was desperate to stick as closely as I could to it. After 12 years on the coast I knew a few ways of keeping costs down. With all the walls up and plastered it was time for the decorators to start – the exciting point is when it starts to look like a salon. The furniture arrived from Italy in boxes the size of small cars. I couldn't wait to unpack everything and get it in position unfortunately 2 pieces of furniture had been damaged in transit one severely, nothing unusual in this part of the world! Gut wrenching as it was so expensive and seemed to be packaged well. Anyway we had to repair it quickly and continue as our deadline to open was approaching. Once the signage went up outside it felt like the salon was born and we then started getting a lot of interest from people in the bars and restaurants next door asking when we will be open and what treatments we will offer. It’s at that point you start to get excited about the new project as there's always a fear it might not work!

With pedicure chair and backwashes plumbed in, manicure table, styling units installed we were ready to go only a few days away from our opening date. Of course you are never completely ready when you open as it takes months of working in a new business to completely finish the project but at some point you have to open the doors and take money to pay the bills! Opening day came on June 15. What a relief. You just hope that you haven't forgotten anything vital to the smooth running of the business. It’s the middle of August now and all is going well the AC has finally been fixed after 4 weeks of no air con! That was probably our biggest problem we had to face. On a positive note we have had some lovely new clients in and feedback is very positive and we are starting to build a new clientele and determined to still offer the same high level of service that we are renowned for. We are still working with global brands Wella, Joico, Olaplex, Guinot, Dermalogica, Caci and now Arkana. We came in slightly over budget but are very proud of our new salon so please come and see us! veryone knows that somewhere along the line having your nails done went from being a treat… to a necessity… to your fave holiday accessory! But stick with us through this article and we'll show you what's hot, what's not and a few of our all time faves!

Our product recommendation

Here at GTHQ our go to product has to be CND shellac. The ultimate power polish can be used as a standalone treatment or paired with acrylics for that long lasting, high shine finish with no damage when applied and removed correctly.

A nail techs nightmare

We all know how tempting it is to sit and pick when you've gone just a little too long in between your nail apps (I'm bad for this one myself)... But pulling off a nail enhancement is the no.1 crime. If you don't have the time to book in to get them sorted we'd recommend you keep a bottle of acetone at home to hand for them emergency moments and try and soak them off yourself. A little cuticle oil wouldn't go a miss here to replenish the moisture the acetone gets rid of too. You're welcome! Salon Services - €3.49

◀ Golden Tarts - €5.99

Nail it like they do

We've looked after some total babes when they hit up Marbella. Whatever their beauty needs we've got them covered. Our latest pocket rocket, Holly Hagan from Geordie shore chose a pastel bright combo of acrylic extensions and Shells in the sand CND shellac whilst out here celebrating her birthday.

Masked acrylic full set can elongate those short and sweet nail beds.

A few of our fave nudes all thrown in for good measure. Louise Roe is the ultimate when it comes to a class act. Which is why we went with Cocoa shellac over an elegant almond shaped extension to create this look.

What's hot right now

A hint of glitter gives this nude set a summer sparkle.

Our clients colour choices right now are switching between baring it all in nudes or summer loving pastels. But why settle on one colour when you can opt for a few! Here's some of our faves to get you inspired! Bare all in nude knickers with a hint of sparkle just because.

y client had a Krispy Kreme donut yesterday. An actual full on, calorific, soft, doughy, piece of deliciousness. Did I tell her off? Did I cut her calories down? Did I put her on low carbs the rest of the day? No, I actually said to her ‘Winning at life’ with an emoji and let her get on with her day. The reason being, as her online coach (someone who designs bespoke nutrition and exercise plans for clients who I never actually train personally) I didn’t freak out at ‘donut gate’ is because it fitted her macros. Flexible dieting, a tool that I use with all my clients, enables them to have the flexibility of fitting in ‘not so diet friendly foods’ into their daily lives without hindering their results. What is a macro I hear you ask? Macro stands for macronutrients. Your macronutrients are protein, carbohydrates and fats. Along with calories, I work out my clients’ macros for them tailored to their body type and goal to get them the best results. The client who I mentioned above has now lost 11.5lbs in 12 weeks. This has included a birthday where several days were off plan and a couple of festivals (which were pretty boozy…) The beauty with flexible dieting and counting macros is that it gives a client the freedom to enjoy a social life and foods that would usually be strictly off bounds for someone trying to drop body fat. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve been told ‘I’ve done every diet under the sun – Cambridge, Juice Plus, Lighter Life…’ etc etc. The fact is, all diets work. For fat loss to occur, calories in have to be less than calories out. This is called a calorie deficit. All diets are based around creating a calorie deficit. However, the reason people fail at sticking to a diet is because, usually, it’s unrealistic. It’s not sustainable. People get bored. They want a glass of wine at the weekend and because they’re ‘not allowed it’ it makes it all the more tempting. Suddenly, they are two bottles in thinking ‘SOD IT!’ and ordering a pizza to go with it.

Then comes the guilt. The feelings of failure. Of all those days or weeks of your diet and now it’s all been undone. What’s the point in continuing? May as well give up. In fact, make a weekend of it. No, make a week of it. And now you’re back to square one. Sound familiar? Strict diets do not work. For example, you’re told to drink a shake for breakfast and lunch then have a healthy dinner. Sounds simple. ‘I can do this’ you think. It takes no time (because time is something no one seems to have) and you’ve seen photos on the internet of people dropping a stone in two weeks. What an incentive! Now lets REALLY look at that scenario. You’re going to be having the same meal for breakfast and lunch every day. Food tends to be an enjoyable experience for most, just the pleasure of actually chewing food. Well that’s out the window except for just one meal. What fun is that? Next, you are probably consuming around 1000-1200 calories a day. Now, here comes the science bit. We all have what is called a BMR (basal metabolic rate). This is the amount of calories we burn in a comatose state. This doesn’t take into account the average person getting up, going to work, pottering around, working out. These are the calories you would burn if you were to literally lay in the same place all day and for your organs to function. Most women’s BMR is around the 1200 mark so ask yourself – why would you want to eat the same amount or even less than what your body needs just to stay alive? Imagine what that is actually doing to you, from a health prospective if anything. Forget aesthetics, how is that remotely healthy?! I would love to know the percentage of dieters who regain the weight they have lost (and probably put on more) from doing fad or extremely restrictive diets. The results you see online? Where are these people now. Are they STILL having 2 shakes a day or blending all their food? Have they kept that stone off? I doubt it. It is also incredibly unhealthy and actually pretty near damn impossible to lose a stone of fat in two weeks. To lose 1lb of fat you must create around a 3500 calorie deficit. So this means, through diet or training or a mixture of both, you must burn off 3500 calories more then what your body needs to stay the same weight. That equates to 500 calories a day to lose 1lb of fat a week. So lets say your body needs 2050 calories a day to maintain your weight. This is the average woman pottering around in day to day life and training 3 times a week. If she were to consume 1550 calories a day (2050500 = 500 calorie deficit) she would lose 1lb of fat a week roughly. So that ‘lose a stone in 2 weeks’ you saw would

mean you would have to create a 3500 calorie deficit PER DAY to be pure fat loss. Probably not going to happen is it? What you will probably lose is a mixture of water, muscle and fat. Less muscle = less calories burnt throughout the day. Which leads me to my next point… So why not just consume 1200 calories a day and lose 1.7lbs a week? Because your body is clever. There is a debate as to whether the whole ‘starvation mode’ response actually exists, however, it seems from personal experience working with clients to be that when people create large calorie deficits (this excludes obese clients where larger deficits actually seem to work fine) the metabolism slows and fat loss stalls. Then, when the client gets sick of seeing no change and eats whatever the hell they want, the weight they have lost creeps back on and then some. And around in circles they go. You want to create enough deficit to lose body fat but not lose muscle. Muscle is your weight loss weapon! It means you can become a calorie burning furnace! It means even when you’re sat on your bum all day at the office, if you have enough muscle your body is constantly fired up. But to maintain muscle whilst dropping body fat you need enough protein in your diet. And this is where macros come into play. Without adequate protein, your body will break down muscle easier than it will body fat when dieting. So then not only will you not look lean and toned and all your hard work at the gym won’t show but you’ll also lose muscle and lower your metabolic rate. Making fat loss even harder! Starting to see where I’m going with all this? Not only all this but certain people require different macronutrients to others. For example, you have 3 body types; mesomorph, endomorph and ectomorph. Depending on which body type you are will depend on what type of training will benefit you more, how many calories you’ll need and how many carbohydrates you’ll need. It is not a one size fits all. I have had many clients who’s macros I’ve worked out based on their stats only then to have to change because their metabolisms are either better or worse than expected. I suffer with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and I find that my body cannot metabolise carbs well despite training hard 6 times a week. Hormonal imbalances also play a part and it’s important that any fat loss plan you do takes into account all these aspects. Everyone is unique and individual and your macros should reflect your body type, your stats, your training and your goals. So before you get sucked into another fad diet think long term; am I going to be able to stick with this? You CAN have your Kripsy Kreme and eat it.

RESTAURANT REVIEW

Y

ou can find Blend in Puerto Banus next to the famous Bull Ring, a beautiful yet tranquil spot with a stunning glass walled interior and huge raised exterior terrace and white lounge sofas. The name says it all: Blend is a restaurant you can visit any time of the day and with its international cuisine every type of person can find something interesting and tasty there - be it a delicious breakfast, healthy snack, delectable dinner or a giant whipped cream and donut infused milkshake. These are becoming Blend’s trademark! The evenings at Blend are just beautiful… sitting on the terrace when the night hits Puerto Banus Blend Terrace lights up and it becomes so cozy and for you romantic people it is a good place to bring your partner or your first date where you can chill out and enjoy.

92 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 34

The party is also at Blend as well with its amazing choice of music and good local and international DJ’s Blend can turn into a really good night out or the perfect place to start off your big nights out before heading into the many clubs Puerto Banus has to offer.

Something For Everyone

The Blend menu is very big and it has something for all so you can bring all family and everyones tastebuds will be satisfied. Plus the friendly staff and waiters will help you pick your dish if you have any trouble choosing – they knew the menu inside and out and answered every query we had on all the dishes. Thumbs up! There are also great vegan and vegetarian options.

Tried and Tasted Starters

Chicken Satay For this main dish chicken brochettes are marinated and grilled with the satay sauce and a tangy vegetable rice with a lot of spicey flavors to enjoy. This is a very rich dish and could be wonderful to share too as you get a big portion.

Prawns Pil Pil So for you prawn lovers out there this is a beautiful and very very tasty starter, you will get about 8 very big prawns in a just perfect amount of pil pil olive oil and the amount of chilli is just perfect so if you like it very spicy request more chilli (or more on the side) but for our tasters who like it medium it was just heavenly.

Blend has a lot of very nice desserts and wonderful cocktails and after an amazing dinner we do recommend those with a sweet tooth to try the Chocolate Brownie or the Carrot Cake

Kebab Spring Rolls With a twist of Middle East and Asia this is a very nice and light starter filled with chicken and veggies in a filo pasty served with a fresh mint-yoghurt sauce. Plentiful for a starter but it would even make a wonderful snack choice.

or just pick a refreshing champagne cocktail after your dinner and just enjoy the moon and views on the terrace. For you kids (or big kids!) Blend will become your ultimate milkshake dream venue that you can’t miss out on. With 10 to choose from you will never get bored.

Mains

In Summary

Tagliatelle Alfredo Tagliatelle Alfredo is a wonderful pasta dish that many know and love but with a nice and creamy but not overly heavy sauce as most Italian dishes can be, served with succulent slices of chicken and wild mushrooms for those who love garlic and creamy pasta this is your choice.

Cocktails, Desserts and Milkshakes

Our experience at Blend fantastic the place is very good value and relaxing and you could come here any time of the day or night and enjoy it. In our opinion there is not many places you can go and enjoy at anytime but Blend is definitely one of them. You can bring your family or even just a chill out with friends or a beautiful start for an evening, a place we do recommend to visit if you are in Puerto Banus.

PRECISION

TIMING Ever tried to capture the perfect moment on camera? These snaps prove it can be done, although the money shots captured here show brilliant, yet funny, examples of rude optical illusions, perfect timing, disasters as they are happening (baseball bat in the face!) Hope you enjoy these Top 18 Precision Moments caught on camera as much as we did at Marbella Rocks HQ.

Divine inspiration? We'd all love to look this dramatic when having a clever thought

Move over Jesus: A youngster appears to walk on water at a pool party

You're too funny! We'd love to know what this youngster said to provoke such a reaction

Finding Nemo: This diver blended perfectly into the aquatic scene

Giving King Kong a run for his money: A baboon makes his dislike of visitors known

126 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 34

Enough to put you off your sausages! This very rude optical illusion occurred at a family BBQ

Where's his head gone! Things certainly get up close and personal during wrestling matches

This watersports fan makes gliding on the surface look incredibly easy

You don't see that every day! A gymnast looked as if they'd gained a few unfortunate appendageS

That looks painful! A gymnast seemed to lose their head as they competed

The snapper pressed the button at just the right moment to capture a bubble being burst

What have you been feeding him? This kitty is certainly looking buffed up That's got to hurt: A plane was flying past at an unfortunate moment for this skydiver

You've heard of Dumbo the flying elephant, now meet his canine counterpart

Ouch! The indignity of being slammed in the face by a flying baseball bat was perfectly captured

These feathered friends made sure they were ready for their close up

Run as fast as you can! Because Ninja Cat is on your tail

Lydia Lucy

Lydia Lucy was a finalist on the 2016 version of BBC One talent show The Voice. Mentored by Will.i.am, the Romford born beauty received rave reviews from the judges and although she didn’t take home the grand prize she has carved out a successful career and performs regularly at gigs both in the UK and abroad, including Marbella at Olivia’s La Cala and Fuel Brasserie.

What has been the biggest and best place to perform and why? The best and biggest place I’ve performed so far would have to be at the opening of the UEFA’s in Paris, it was an absolute dream. There were 100 thousand people there watching and Will.i.am. and I performed underneath the Eifel Tower. It was amazing, the crowd was insane. You have dated celebs including Nathan from The Wanted, why didn’t that work out? There were a lot of rumours, Nathan and I were best friends at school, we spent a lot of time together and always supported each others music. What was it like starring on the ‘The Voice’ and how did you handle the fame it brought? It was one of the best experiences of my life so far performing to millions of people live on TV. The fame it brought me was to be expected and I love it but I am just so grateful to everyone who supports me. Was Will.i.am as cool as he comes across on screen? He is mega cool, I actually call him a real life Willy Wonka but for music he is an absolute genius and I love working with him. He is great fun to be around and always full of life. Was there any backstage gossip from the show? To be honest all the contestants were very, very close and we all got along so well, there were no dramas and no arguing we were all very supportive of each other. We would help each other rehearse in the apartments and we even used to invite everyone over and cook for each other. It was so much fun.

Is there anyone special in your life right now? Yes there is…. But shhhh that would be telling. What do you look for in a guy? Someone who can make me laugh and make me happy, the bottom line is you have to be happy in life. Funniest pick up line used on you? OMG, funniest pick up line was someone tweeted me saying…. ‘You’re like the gerkin in my big mac, I just wanna take you out.’ Haha. If you could only take three things to a desert island what would they be? Hmmmm, three things….(1) My songwriting book. (2) My phone. (3) 5 million bottles of water. What´s your greatest achievement so far? I would say performing at the Capital

130 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 34

Summertime Ball with Will.i.am it’s been my dream for years and years and Will made it happen for me. Best advice you’ve ever been given? Always be true to yourself. Dream, believe and you will achieve. Worst habit? Playing with my hair, twirling it. What did you want to be growing up? Artist/Singer. What couldn't you live without? Cups of tea, I drink about at least 10 cups a day. Best thing about being in Marbella? I have always loved Marbs, I’ve been going for years and years and love the sun, the people and everything about it. Best thing about it… Paella. Worst thing? The sea. To be honest I don’t like the sea anywhere we go I’m actually frightened of the sea. What are your plans for the future? I have written an album and currently working on the project of the first single release… exciting.
