The actress has not been shy about her plans for motherhood. Prior to the

pregnancy she gushed in interview about her future family plans and her desire to be a loving mother, “I have wanted to be a mother since I was 16, but I just knew I had to have a career first.” Anne looks like a glowing beauty with her bump and her fashionista nature means she knows how to look good and style her clothes to flatter her new figure. Congrats to the lovely pair, we cannot wait to meet your new arrival!.

RONNIE TO BE A DAD AT 68 Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and wife Sally Humphreys, 37, are

expecting twins, making Ronnie a Dad for the fifth and sixth time. The couple, who have been married for 4 years and are said to be “overjoyed” by the news although it came as a shock. The twins are due to be born in June 2016. Ronnie, the wildman of the legendaries sixties band, already has five children from former relationships and 9 grandchildren. SPAIN WINS MISS WORLD Mireia Lalaguna Royo, a 23-year-old professional model from Barcelona, won the coveted beauty contest held in China on December 20. Mireira has a degree in Pharmacology and is planning to do an MA in nutrition. She gave a heartwarming speech saying, “Just because I am beautiful on the outside does not mean I am beautiful on the inside too.” Scotland and Northern Ireland came in the top ten while England didn´t make the top 20. There was also a bit of controversy at the contest, held in Sanya in Southern China, as Miss Canada was banned for speaking about human rights abuse.

EPIC MISS UNIVERSE FAUX PAS Meanwhile, over at the Miss Universe contest in Las Vegas, presenter Steve Wlley accidently crowned the wrong contestant Miss Colombia over rightful winner Miss Philippines. A flabbergasted Harvey had to tell the confused crowd, "OK folks ... I have to apologise. Let me just take control of this. This is exactly what's on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card." Miss Colombia was actually first runner-up and the crown and bouquet were awkwardly taken from her and given to an even more shocked yet delighted Miss Philippines!

SAINT WEST WELCOMED TO THE WORLD Kim Kardashian and Kanye West celebrated the birth of their first baby boy on December 5. Under a post titled “To our fans” Kim wrote, “Saint West, 12.05.15, 8 pounds 1 ounce.” The website post was also accompanied by four emojis depicting the family.

HORNY MICHELLE REVEALS ALL Former Corrie star Michelle Keegan let it slip to journalists during a recent interview that she was “horny as hell” because she hadn´t seen new hubby Mark Wright in just under 2 weeks. The newlyweds schedule meant they were apart and she mentioned this in an interview during the Cosmopolitan Awards to a number of onlookers. “I think I am the horniest person in the room. I just fancy everyone!” she reportedly

said. A source said: "Michelle's mortified that she talked about her sex life and that it was printed in a paper. She was a bit tipsy when she said it and of course it was all jest, she's usually very coy about that side of things, she doesn't even divulge much with pals.” Mark was reportedly annoyed by the story as he feels there are certain things that shouldn't be discussed in public.

CHRISTINE & FRANK TIE THE KNOT

TV presenter Christine Bleakley and former England football player Frank Lampard finally got hitched at a lavish Knightsbridge ceremony on December 20. The couple had been engaged for 4 years after meeting at the Pride of Britain Awards in 2009. Christine wowed onlookers as she arrived at Saint Paul’s Church in Central London, in a bespoke princess style dress created by designer Suzanne Neville, who has also made

gowns for Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton and singer Katherine Jenkins. Football stars, including John Terry, Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, were out in force to celebrate the couple´s big day. Bleakley has frequently stated the she is not your typical “WAG” while Lampard is not your typical footballer with nine A GCSE´s he was originally heading for a career as a lawyer before his football career took off.

JENNIFER & Liam SHARE OFF-SCREEN KISS Jennifer Lawrence has admitted to having a secret relationship with her Hunger Games co star Liam Hemsworth. In an interview with US TV channel WWHL, she said, “Liam and I grew up together. Liam is real hot. What would you have done?” To which the interviewer replied that he would have gone for Liam out of him and co star Josh Hutcherson. Which is when Jen dropped the bombshell that she had actually romanced Chris off-screen…earning her a high five from the host! Jen didn´t reveal when the co stars were intimate and she also failed to kiss and tell on her on/off relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. She did however also admit to having a blast of a bong before one of the recent Oscars ceremonies.

The nail varnish is ever so easy to apply thanks to the maxi brush which means just two simple strokes will give you flawless nails and ultimate coverage. The chip resistant factor really does depend on your daily routine so if you wash the dishes a few times a day don’t expect the nail polish to be indestructible! We love this look and think its best paired with a loose jumper or shirt dress. RECIPE

If you’re anything like the Marbella Rocks team to really appreciate your nights out there’s nothing quite like a relaxing night in. Cue DVD, dinner and a good bottle of wine. Here’s a rundown and recipe for a quality night in.

STEAK & ALE PIE The Hairy Bikers Steak & Ale pie recipe is really easy to follow and delicious too. You can't beat good, hearty British grub for a bit of comfort food and Si and Dave don't disappoint with this famous recipe.

INGREDIENTS

• 900g stewing steak, diced • 25g flour, plus extra for dusting • 100g butter • 2 onions roughly chopped • 2 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped • 2 medium carrots, roughly chopped • 150g button mushrooms • 2 sprigs fresh thyme • 400ml good-quality ale • 500ml beef stock • Salt and pepper • 1 egg, beaten for glazing • 300g ready-made rolled puff pastry

METHOD

1. Preheat the oven to 220°C/428°F/Gas Mark 7.

2. Pour flour into a bowl and season well. Coat the meat with the seasoned flour. 3. Heat half the butter in a heated pan and add the meat. Sear all over until golden brown. 4. Add the vegetables, herbs, ale and stock. Bring to a simmer, then cover with a lid and gently simmer for 1 hr. When cooked, season, add the remaining butter and pour into an ovenproof serving dish. 5. Brush the edge of the dish with the beaten egg. Roll out the pastry using as little flour as possible and place over the dish. Pinch the edges of the dish so that the pastry will stick to it and trim off any remaining pieces of pastry from around the edge. Brush the pastry top thoroughly with the remaining beaten egg and place on a baking tray. 6. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.

WINE MATCH For a classic meal like Steak & Ale Pie with its rich and full flavours try an equally powerful and full-bodied wine such as Australian Shiraz or California Cabernet Sauvignon. These have pronounced body and structure so they won’t feel dull next to the richness of the pie and their earthy, spicy fruit flavours will also add a bit of a kick. While there´s no doubt a good ale (generally the same one you have used in the making of the pie) goes down well with this dish, as mushrooms are a central feature, a robust red pinot noir would also work incredibly well with these flavours.

news DVD REVIEW

SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE An unexpected romance where two full blown sex addicts - Jake, played by Jason Sudeikis and Lainey, played by Alison Brie meet their match. Jake, a commitment-feared eroticist has no plans to ever settle down and is quite content in living life ‘playing the field’. Lainey on the other hand is a hopeless cheater and can’t stay faithful in a relationship with the temptation of other men just too hard to resist. Once their paths cross a strange yet lovable friendship is formed and the crazy pair undoubtedly realise they have more than just their sex addiction in common. You watch them both trying to maintain an innocent friendship, despite their mutual attraction. The pair’s reliance on each other is somewhat endearing. The comical scenes featuring the pair attending a kids party intoxicated by narcotics - this scene in particular showcases their blossoming yet unconventional friendship. However, behind the fun and laughter an addict still remains and it’s not an easy road for either of them. They help each other through difficult times and in the midst of the comforting they soon come to realisation that they are in fact in love with each other. For once this could lead to a stable relationship they’ve both avoided for so long, if neither of them make the same mistakes as before…

The record made history including the most streamed track ever on Spotify in a single day. He is releasing his highly anticipated debut album on January 22nd and has promised to his fans that it is well worth the wait. It comes preceded by the promotion of debut EP Some Type of Love. The album also includes his recent chart topper Marvin Gaye which features the talented Megan Trainor. The track is an indicator of what to expect from the 11 other songs on the album such as Suffer and Know Your Name. The record also features his next single One Call Away, which follows the soulful pop genre with lyrics such as “Superman got nothing on me!” this is one for the ladies! The 23-yearold has been working day and night on the soundtrack in order to push his sound to perfection, “Whenever I start a new song, I always start with eight vocal tracks and one piano track. That’s how I write every song of mine,” Puth explained. The singer gave us the meaning behind the title Nine Track Mind – “I never seem to have just one thing on my mind. I always have music notes, and different song ideas running through my head at the same time.” Perfectly apt title then! The album cover highlights a side profile of Charlie in a green shirt against a vivid yellow backgroundsimple yet effective. The album is definitely not one to miss as rising star Charlie delivers 12 uplifting songs with his trademark piano interludes, this will be a perfect start to your 2016. ROCKS RATING:

BOOK REVIEW

EXPOSURE Intricate, gripping and moving, Helen Dunmore definitely has another hit on her hands in Exposure. With the Cold War at its height the threat of spies hits fever point but the political establishment knows exactly how and where to bury its secrets. A sensitive file goes missing and Simon Callington is arrested accused of passing information to the Soviets. His wife Lily suspects that this imprisonment is part of a cover-up and that those higher than Simon are fighting to prevent their own downfall. Knowing that both she and her children too are in danger, Lily must fight to save and protect her family. Little does she know that Simon is hiding things from her, including a crime that may carry with it an even greater penalty. This is a twisting, gripping tale that keeps the reader on board and emotionally involved throughout. Dunmore has constructed a narrative that confounds expectations, the best thing being you cannot predict the outcome. You may think you know where the plot will end up although it actually ends in a far more interesting place. The characterisation is also particularly good in Exposure, particularly the lead character Lily. Whilst secrets are uncovered and betrayals made, these are still likeable characters, flawed definitely - but relatable to the social rules of the time. A highly recommended read. You will lose yourself in this chilling, captivating and wonderfully crafted tale of the Cold War.

Behind the scenes of the La Vida Model Management Launch Party

S

o you´re thinking of starting a business, there´s so much planning to undertake - not only legal, financial, marketing, staffing, competitor research, premises… the list is endless. Just when your ready to announce your burgeoning business to the world there´s THE LAUNCH PARTY! An evening so important it sometimes brings shudders to the

24 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

business owner – this is the one night that allows you to showcase months (or potentially years) of your hard work to your peers, clients, friends and family. Kate Righton and the team behind LVMM give you a candid, inside look at what it took to organise the biggest night of their lives.

THE VENUE

The first thing to consider was venue. And yes we are spoilt for choice in Marbella so there was a month long search to discover the perfect place to launch a high end model agency here on the coast. After visiting over 10 venues at the top of our “dream venue hit list”, it was decided that Les Cubes on the

news

Golden Mile would be the perfect choice. Not only for staging a fashion show that we wanted to undertake but it had stunning views and was just the right size for our 100 strong guest list. Plus the food at Les Cubes is to die for and the head chef came up with a canapé selection that utilized all the most popular dishes at the 5 star eatery.

THE GUEST LIST

Next we needed the right people in attendance. All the top local and national media – including magazines, newspapers, radio and TV – were invited alongside Marbella´s best fashion boutiques and brands who may well be looking for models to use in their forthcoming campaigns. Part of La Vida Model Management will be organising fashion shows here on the coast – so we also decided to invite all the top venue owners and promoters. Fashion Shows are a big thing in Marbella, so part of our initial business plan was to offer this service to fashion brands and venues. A win win situation as it brings everyone, including our models, much needed business.

THE FASHION SHOW

Next up was organising the Fashion Show which was to showcase our models and top fashion brands here on the Coast. We wanted elegant, eveningwear to reflect the venue and really show off our models figures. It was decided that The Marbella Dress Company, Flamingo Market Place and Stephanie´s

Boudoir would be ideal so with our 3 brands, 8 chosen models and 24 planned walk throughs we coordinated the show… sounds simple enough? Actually apart from a few last minute no shows on the night the catwalk was a resounding success and the only hiccup was our finale act Stephanie´s Boudoir when we were a model down, Stephanie, the owner who was backstage in one of her floor length designs had to go out on stage to keep the fluidity of the show going. Well done Steph!

THE FUTURE´S BRIGHT

As the LVMM agency strapline reads “Don´t shun the spotlight, it´s your turn to shine!” so if you are interested in becoming a model do not hesitate to get in touch – we are looking for models of all ages and sizes plus we plan to really promote new models careers with a New Faces section. Likewise if you are a brand or business owner that require models for campaigns or jobs – let us know. Plus we have some amazing talent on our books from singers to fire breathers to aerial acrobats. So if you want something special for an event LVMM can meet your every need. To end this interview on a bright note; we have already been in talks with production companies, venues and fashion brands and a large percentage of our models already have jobs booked. It is their turn to shine, when will it be yours?!

WHAT TO DO IF YOU’VE BEEN BURGLED STATISTICS IN SPAIN

Crime rates in Spain remain among the lowest in the EU according to the latest Interior Ministry crime report. However, since the economic crisis began in 2008, there has been a steep increase in domestic burglaries and theft as a result. In 2012 the number of burglaries in homes rose by 25.4%. The message to expat residents is not to panic. There are some simple precautions to take, as you would back in the UK, such as fitting security grills, installing exterior lights and alarms, being careful about what content is posted on social networks, especially anything to do with trips and holidays away from home. It also helps to take out a quality home insurance policy that will cover your home and its contents should any unfortunate incident occur.

WHEN YOU DISCOVER YOU'VE BEEN BURGLED

As soon as you discover you’ve been burgled, whether it’s a break-‐in

or theft at your home, first call the police. Don’t touch anything until they arrive. A police report will be needed to process your claim. Then secure your home to avoid further damage, board up any broken windows, make a list of damaged or missing belongings, detail the damage to your home resulting from the burglary, taking photographs of damaged windows or door. At this point, you can call the claims department of your home insurance company. We advise you to have your policy on hand when you call.

PEACE OF MIND WITH LINEA DIRECTA

We understand that your peace-‐of-‐mind is important, especially in your home. Our claims department will take a full statement of the circumstances of the incident. We will check the insurance coverage with you explaining all the procedures. If emergency repairs are required from locksmiths to glaziers, we will

help you swiftly handle your claim and get things back to normal as soon as possible. Fortunately, incidents of theft in Spain are relatively small compared to other EU countries, however should you be burgled, your homeowner’s insurance policy will cover the loss or destruction of personal property if it’s stolen from your home

HOLD UP OUTSIDE THE HOME

In many cases, your home insurance policy may cover you for any incidents that occur outside your home. Should you be the victim of a hold-‐up outside your premises your personal belongings are covered. We will ensure replacement documents are quickly and efficiently dealt with, and if required, arrange the locks on your home to be changed.

QUEEN BEY REIGNS SUPREME Beyoncé is undoubtedly one of the world´s most talented musicians and a successful businesswoman in her own right. Her net worth is an estimated $450 million dollars, making her one of the highest female celeb earners and the perfect cover star for Marbella Rocks Money Issue. However Bey’s humble attitude never fails to endear her to fans. She has quoted that her biggest goal in life is just to be happy: “I have a lot of property. I’ve invested my money and I don’t have to make anymore, because I’m set. I’m now able really to be free and just do things that make me happy.” Although happiness seems to be at the top of Beyoncé’s list, her 7 bedroom mansion in Beverly Hills and a range of luxury cars totalling up to $10 million, must help right?!

CONQUERING THE WORLD

At only 34, Beyoncé has already built her empire and is tipped to stay at the top for the foreseeable future. Her most recent album Beyoncé broke records selling a total of 617,000 copies in the first two weeks of being released. This even beat her album B’day that sold 514,000 in the same time period. What’s most impressive is that it was a secret album release and Bey shocked fans by releasing the album exclusively via iTunes on the morning of 13th December, without any pre-release announcements. Beyoncé has also won her fair share of awards, including a total of 14 Grammy’s. This year she won best album for the secret release of Beyoncé. She has been named the

28 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

most nominated woman in Grammy history! It is thought that if she were to separate from Jay-Z the divorce would cost a total of $1 billion dollars, being the highest celebrity divorce in history. There has been an ongoing conspiracy that Jay-Z has been having an affair with his young protégée Rihanna. Not only this but at the Met Gala in 2014 a feud between Bey’s sister Solange Knowles and her husband Jay-Z erupted where Solange had actually hit Jay-Z in an elevator. Solange accused her brother in law of getting too close for comfort to fashion designer, Rachel Roy. The pap’s captured this moment and even then, Beyoncé, typically maintained her complete professionalism and didn’t batter

an eyelid at the paparazzi, instead she remained completely calm and unfazed despite her angered sis. Beyoncé is famously known for keeping her personal life private and I’m sure this public dispute was her worst nightmare, especially between two people so close to her. Beyoncé has been the face of many brands we know and love including Armani Diamonds perfume; this iconic advertisement back in 2007 seemed to fit well with Beyoncé’s feminist attitude, she quotes: “Diamonds often are a sign of a woman's strength these days. Now women can buy their own diamonds." This strong, female attitude is exactly what Beyoncé has always demonstrated especially through her music, such as ‘Irreplaceable’. Therefore to feature in an ad where this is again reconciled, reminds us of Beyoncé’s ultimate goal to be successful in her own right. Girl power!

MAKING WAVES WITH TIDAL Jay Z and Beyoncé’s subscriptionbased music streaming service called Tidal combines lossless audio and high definition music videos with curated editorial. A service, which claims to pay the highest royalties to the artists, it has over 35 million tracks and 85,000 music videos. Among the stars that co-own and support tidal such as Nicki Minaj, Usher and Madonna it has caused outrage for some artists. 50 Cent explained: "We probably could have [done] something more exciting if they reached out because the

features people you saw there don't even own the rights to their own music. So they can't say it's just going to come out on Tidal, it has to go everywhere. So why would you actually buy Tidal to get something that would be everywhere else." It seems the Tidal launch is a new craze that’s got everyone talking whether in a positive or negative way. The main message of the vocally negative celebs seems to find Tidal’s purpose, somewhat pointless and just a way of highly paid artists to earn even more through a monthly paid subscription. Despite the feuds, Tidal is bound to be a success solely down to the big names involved. Jay Z and Beyoncé know what they’re doing and the die-hard fans out there will always support their musical idols. Plus, to so many the artists are the ones that should be rewarded for producing music not the sellers like iTunes and Spotify, which give a comparably small fee to artists from selling or streaming their music compared to Tidal.

STYLE ICON

Beyoncé’s style over the years has varied, not in an eccentric and outlandish way like Gaga but definitely in her own, signature, Bey-way. What we love most about Beyoncé’s style is that she’s not afraid to be casual and rock high street fashion but can still show up to the Met Gala in a racy see-through Givenchy gown, and still maintain her sophisticated rep.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR BEY

It’s been over three years since Beyoncé and Jay had their first child: Blue Ivy, so it’s no surprise they want another little brother or sister for her. It has become known that Bey struggles to conceive, she suffered a miscarriage back in 2009 and she described it as – "The saddest thing I've ever been through" – Jay-Z references the miscarriage in his song Glory - dedicated to Blue Ivy and Beyoncé, which was the first time fans found out about this trauma for the couple. It is rumoured that they are planning to use a surrogate mother to carry their next child for them. Jay hopes this will help their marriage after all the cheating allegations and bring them closer together. It has been suggested that Beyoncé is planning an end of 2016 worldwide tour following a new album. However all her representatives are keeping it top secret and there has even been security on the doors of her recording studios to make sure no one gets a hint. We’re keeping our eyes peeled for any more info on her next album, as after all she didn’t win 14 Grammys for nothing!

BEYONCE'S RISE TO SUPERSTARDOM 1981 Born Beyoncé Giselle Knowles in Houston, US. 1989 Aged only 8 Beyoncé appeared in school talent shows and it was clear even then of her incredible talent. 1990 Beyoncé, her cousin Kelly Rowland, and two of her classmates formed girl band ‘Destiny’s Child’. 1994 Even at the tender age of just 13 Beyoncé’s budding career proved too much pressure for her parents. They separated due to her father (Matthew Knowles) obsession. 1997 Destiny’s child released their first hit single ‘No, No, No’ 2002 Beyoncé landed a role as Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers film, Goldmember, this established Beyoncé as a true Hollywood star. She then released her first solo single "Work It Out" in the same year. 2003 Although the soundtrack from Goldmember failed to chart nationally, her full-length solo album- Dangerously in Love, reached a multi platinum status. Featuring big artists such as Missy Elliot and Jay-Z, this album release was the debut of Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé’s alter ego, a sexier, aggressive and all round more fun side to her. 2006 Destiny’s Child decided to take a break and Beyoncé pursued her solo career by releasing B’day in September ’06. Then just 3 months later she achieved an award winning performance for the musical film Dream Girls. 2008 I Am… Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé’s third studio. This incredible album gave Bey’ the opportunity to really exploit her demon alter ego who is Sasha Fierce. She once quoted “I wouldn’t like Sasha if I met her offstage”. In the same year she married Jay-Z. 2010 In her established career of 5 studio albums Beyoncé decided to kill off Sasha Fierce, as she no longer needed her anymore. To confirm this she went on to name her 5th studio album simply, Beyoncé. 2012 Beyoncé gives birth to daughter Blue Ivy 2014 Beyoncé and Jay-Z begin their ‘On the Run’ World Tour together. 2015 Beyoncé duets ‘Drunk in love’ with Ed Sheeran at the Global Citizen Festival, in aid of ending extreme world poverty by 2030.

While New Year is a time to be thinking about making changes to your life, most people think about joining a gym, being healthy or drinking less. Well what about making financial resolutions. Buying that dream home, putting away for your children´s college or even saving up to get that new car you´ve always wanted. Marbella Rocks gives you the lowdown on 4 key financial areas – Property, The Stockmarket, Cars, Wine and Bitcoins – to see if either of these can make your hard earned money go that bit further in 2016. Read on to find out more……

PRoPERTY With a booming tourist trade and 320 days of sunshine a year, the Marbella property market is growing, admittedly not like the times of the boom, but with a strong positive trend going into 2016. All the official statistics are showing an increase every month, not just in the transactions, but also in the price per square meters in new and used properties. Importantly for those living on the Costa del Sol, Marbella is, and historically has been, one of the leading areas of the property market in Spain. Even in the actual urbanistic situation the demand for Marbella is definitely holding the trend of the year. The average house price in Spain rose in October 2015 – the first time that has happened in any month since 2008, when the crisis started. Plus, the total number of sales of properties in Spain have been higher month by month since 2014 showing that our

32 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

impression is correct…. once again the property market in Spain is dynamic and in the coming years will give us lots of joy. I would wholly recommend that now is the time to buy.

BUYING POWER

I would say 90% of clients contact us mainly to search about market prices in the area, and of this 10% of this I would say are serious buyers. Almost all of this 10%, with a correct search of properties under their requirements, complete a purchase successfully. It is obvious that the market is moving and pushing us all. We have many clients from different nationalities, all of them with different requirements about properties British make up the highest level

of any nationality in Spain at 36% of the expat population, and there are more Brits that are buying now than ever before – although I would say mainly in the €150,000 to €300,000 price bracket. Scandinavia is also a huge market for us. We have the best conditions to offer to foreigners. Excellent gastronomy, good quality of life and extraordinary weather conditions. What not a lot of people know is that Spain is the top destination for Chinese investors in the Mediterranean, with demand up 392% in a year. The Ruble tumble in Russia has slightly affected the Russian spending power here. You may have noticed quite a significant reduction of Russian citizens here in the last couple of years.

My top 3 PROPERTY picks for investment among Obsido's portfolio INCLUDE...

FROM BUST TO BOOM

The property crisis which started in 2008 left lots of properties empty in Spain, but this situation is changing. Most of the properties that are empty are in the Banks hands, who seem to have found effective ways of getting rid of them. The fact that supports this statement is that, not just the regular banks, but also SAREB (Public Bad Bank) have started to develop complexes in plots of land that they had in their portfolios. This clearly shows to us that there is huge confidence in the booming Spanish property market. Further positives for Spain comes from the news that the Euro Mortgage Base Rates plumbed a new historic low in October 2015, reducing monthly repayments for many borrowers in Spain. However we do not think this situation is overtly affecting the appetite of the Spanish market because the Spanish banks are increasing the applicable rates to mortgages and reducing the percentages to be financed in property transactions. Also the conditions to obtain a mortgage are significantly stricter than before.

AND FINALLY...

I would like to express my faith in the recovery of the Spanish property market, supported by the rest of areas of the Spanish economy. As proof of our strong faith in this statement, Obsido Real Estate S.A. is preparing an expansion plan to be performed thorough 2016 and 2017 across different areas of Spain, which I am pleased in sharing with your readers. In Obsido we believe that the property market in areas like the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca is moving towards a new great success and we want to be a main part of it.

THE STOCKMARKET If you´ve ever seen The Wolf of Wall Street (if not - where have you been hiding?) you would probably be put off entirely by investing in the stock market. Given the bad press emerging from the 2013 Scorsese film in question and the cowboys like Jordan Belfort that ran the U.S. firm Stratford-Oakmont – you would be hard pushed not to slam down the phone if a stockbroker ever called you asking for your hard earned money. Well, the truth of the matter is this... The stock market is in a good shape. Using online stockbroker sites and pitting your wits for or against other investor models, you can earn decent income and make good capital gains on your savings by investing in publicly quoted shares in stock markets. The catch, of course, is that earnings and capital gains are subject to risk so losses may be incurred. If you´re new to the game and want to play your cards right, the best way to play is by spreading your investments wisely using a reputable broker (like Barclays or RBS) and by trading on an established stock market like the London Stock Exchange (referred to as LSE for ease - as mentioned a few times in this article).

34 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

SO HOW DO I BEGIN?

The first question you have to ask yourself is how much do I have to invest. This has to be a comfortable figure and money that you may be prepared not to touch for a year or maybe even three years. This is to avoid the downs and catch the ups that do occur in the stock market and your chosen shares. Your risk profile is crucial. Also, remember there may be pensions and tax-free ISA plans to utilise to save tax. Most shares pay dividends rather than interest and these are treated as taxable earnings. A dividend is simply a cash payment per share declared by the company usually twice per year out of it’s profits. When you sell individual shares, that will give rise to capital gains or losses and the net gains are taxable at preferential rates to income tax rates in the tax year of sale. The good news is that the first £11,100 net gains in the UK in 2015/16 tax year are tax free.

THE FIGURES

The sensible minimum to begin a trading account is Euros 10,000 – 20,000 to make it worth your while. But your initial investment can be anything really from €200,000 to €200 million – if you´re a big player. Once you´ve worked out what “spare” cash you have available for investing, let’s say its €100,000 capital, you must spread your risk. The best way to do this is to pick approximately 10 to 15 companies to invest in and split your investment across those shares. The guideline is not to have more than 10% of your savings in one share. For the first 3 investments of €10,000 each choose safe investment options from stable FTSE 100 companies. Then I would recommend choosing 6 in the middle FTSE 250 category. In case you are not familiar with the FTSE 100 and 250 – they refer to the top 350 biggest companies by market value trading on the LSE. Finally, to make your investment portfolio more interesting, choose the final 1-6 shares to make up the 10-15 from the rest of the companies trading on the LSE. They are all publicly quoted

features

and mostly reputable companies. This is your chance to pick industry sectors or special companies you may like. It is very easy to check the past performance and dividends these companies pay and how highly they are rated by investors. That’s the fun bit as you seek to beat the views of the rest of the market by picking shares that are undervalued and perform well. Timing is everything. Learn when to sell and when to ride a storm. Good luck and even better judgement! I would advise at this stage if you are a private investor to stay away from AIM and unlisted shares – these are very much for the pure professionals. However, do consider investment trusts or unit trusts as they enable you to spread your risks much more widely across the LSE.

PROFITABILITY

So if you spread your investments in the way (or a similar way) to how I have explained, the majority of your trading should do well over time. The average yield plus gains from a relatively safe LSE portfolio should be around 3% to 5% per year which is considerably more that the very boring 1% on offer from dead safe deposit interest rates with the major banks. The

WORDS BY:

higher your risk profile, the more you will earn if things go your way. But remember that riskier investments can go down and usually have a much smaller yield through dividends as they have an emphasis on capital gains. Dealing costs through online stockbrokers will only be about £15 per trade so that’s not too significant unless you trade excessively. Also, there will always be a “spread “ cost between the buy and sell price of any share but this will be very low on the FTSE 350 shares. However, that’s another reason not to deal too often – a few times a week is enough on the portfolio described above. If you prefer to take a more active role and manage your own trading account very frequently, be sure to read the financial papers, examine the markets and know the sectors you are investing in e.g. telecoms, manufacturing, retailing, oil (or publishing like me!).

IN SUMMARY

The stock market is not the wolf it’s been painted out to be - more like a sheep in wolf´s clothing! In my opinion, there will be no major slumps on the UK markets in 2016, though various industrial

sectors will continue to ebb and flow. Property is currently high and mining is low, so you may feel as a contrary investor you wish to go with one rather than the other. Don’t forget the FTSE 100 is very broadly spread around the world economic performance whereas the FTSE is more UK centric. So if you invest wisely, you should have a lot of fun trusting your judgement and be able to earn a nice little nest egg/college fund/ beachfront apartment in Marbella with your hard earned stock market portfolio.

Happy Investing…!

Martin Matthews, a Chartered Accountant, company turnaround expert and magazine publisher has been an active private investor for more than 30 years. In this time his stock market holdings have grown by over 10% per year on average and beaten the UK stock market by at least 20%.

CLASSIC

I$$UE CARS The popularity of the Classic Car market has continued to peak many people’s interest in 2015, both collectors and hedge funders alike and with continued growth, as we say goodbye to 2015, it looks set to continue into 2016.

The Historic Automobile Group International (HAGI) is the recognised independent authority on the rare classic motorcar sector and in the first 11 months of 2015 they showed an increase of 23.79% across the board, a figure rarely equalled elsewhere. The continued global following in the classic market, plus the development of emerging markets, means that many experts believe that this increase will continue over the coming years. The ‘HAGI’ however focuses on the truly rare classic cars, such as the Ferrari

250’s, collecting data from the various auction houses and large sales companies around the world. New records were broken in 2015 for a number of models, including the Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder which sold in Paris for a $18.5M USD in early February. A new model record was also set on the Ferrari 250 LM that RM Sotheby’s sold in Monterey in August for $17.6M USD as part of the Pinnacle Collection sale. The biggest sale of 2015, by far, was the 1956 Ferrari 290 MM by Scaglietti, the ex Scuderia Ferrari car once driven

at the Mille Miglia by Juan Manuel Fangio sold for $28M USD in New York earlier in December. All of these cars, not only shared the famous Ferrari badge, but were excellent examples of very rare cars. It wasn’t just Ferrari who had an excellent year at the auctions, Aston Martin had their most expensive sale ever, with the sale of a DB4 GT Zagato for $14.3M USD and McLaren had a marque record $13.75M sale of a McLaren F1 LM. The ‘HAGI’ data tends to collect the information on the high end cars valued from over €1m, but

features

what about the market at the more achievable level, the classic cars which were readily available for €30-100k in the early 2000’s? Favourite’s like the Jaguar E-Type’s, Aston Martin DB5’s and DB6’s, and Ferrari Dino’s and 512 Testarossa’s have more than doubled in value over recent years. I would like to focus more on the modern classic market, cars from the 90’s and the 2000’s which have also seen a huge rise and some of which will be the future stars. It goes without saying that anything limited has held its value or increased. I have picked out a couple of favourite’s which have shown incredible growth recently and look set to continue.

FERRARI F430 SCUDERIA 16M

The Ferrari F430 was produced between 2004 and 2009 to replace the F360 and like most models, Ferrari like to finish with a hardcore, limited run variant, in this case the Scuderia. The Scuderia came as a coupe and as a convertible, the ‘16M’. With only 599 of these stunning convertibles ever built, both the Scuderia and its convertible version the 16M have increased over the last few

where are the values now?

years with prices in 2012 between €100,000 and €200,000 you would now be expecting to pay over €200,000 for a coupe and over €350,000 for a left hand drive 16M. The right hand drive (RHD) market has always been a little more expensive with less models built, a nice RHD example is nearing the €550,000 (at current exchange rates). Other low production number Ferrari’s are also in high demand with the F360 Challenge Stradale and more recently the Speciale have seen excellent returns.

LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO LP670 SUPERVELOCE

The LP670 Superveloce, known as the SV, was produced at the end of the Murcielago production run, like the Scuderia, it was a hardcore low number production. Unlike the Ferrari’s these were individually numbered and although a run of 350 was planned, it is believed that less than 200 were actually produced. The SV is an absolute animal with a huge 6L V12 and a 0-100km/h time of sub 3 seconds. The new price of the SV was

around €300k depending on options, with most people opting for the rear wing. The UK prices have recently peaked around the £375,000 for a RHD, while a nice left hand drive example would be around the €400,000 mark.

MERCEDES MCLAREN SLR

The partnership between Mercedes and McLaren was certainly a successful one and the SLR was one of the eye catching products of their partnership. The SLR is one of the icon’s of the 2000’s and the modern supercar era. Unlike the SV and the Scuderia’s the SLR was not limited and was produced in relatively large numbers between 2003 and 2010. The limited edition end of run 722 coupe and 722 S convertible are the real collectors cars which sell for circa €500,000 with the normal coupe’s and roadsters selling between €300,000 and 400,000. The SLR remained static for several years but as the markets continued to grow it began to grab attention and is now considered one of the cars to watch with things like the Porsche Carrera GT and the 599 GTO, both of which have already shown great growth.

I$GIBRALTAR $UE WINE VAULTS

Fine wine is fast becoming a valuable commodity and falls into one of the best performing asset classes of the last 20 years. With the most expensive lot of wine ever sold going under the hammer at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong for over £1 million - buying highend cases could be the answer to early retirement! Although one problem wine investors have is where to store their expensive bottles of £4000 Chateau Lafite, so it is both safe and will not turn the wine. Their prayers have been answered. Standing at 426 metres high, not a lot of people know that there are 32 miles worth of tunnels inside the Rock of Gibraltar, expertly dug out by Royal Engineers before the Second World War. The limestone inside the Rock provides the perfect natural conditions for fine wine storage - this is not only about the exact conditions but also the stability of these within limits without fluctuations. The Rock itself provides these conditions - 13-14 degrees, 7080% humidity, no light or vibration. Also, due to the carved tunnels and chambers, the ventilation is natural with air circulating. The Royal Engineers, who carved the network, are genius!

38 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

Instead of letting these deep chambers and carved tunnels go to waste (many of them have laid dormant since the war), with the support of the Gibraltar Government and the Heritage Trust, Gibraltar Wine Vaults has been able to create a £6m conversion of an old WT station to launch the visible façade of its burgeoning new business. It is estimated that over £60 million worth of investment grade wine will be stored in The Vault´s state-of-the-art storage facility. Not only will investors be able to store wine in the Rock, which also lends itself to military grade security, but Gibraltar has the added bonus of being free of inheritance tax and VAT liability so will have optimum financial benefits for wine investors. Geographically Gibraltar as a gateway to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic will be a great central point for many investors to store wine, with clients coming from Asia, the US and also Europe. Both phases of the project have in total the capacity for over 800,000 cases of wine equating to £60 million. Although the scalability is in fact limitless, giving investors and collectors room to expand their collections as well as trade in situ. Gibraltar Wine Vaults can also offer extremely competitive pricing due to its scalability, but it is the Vault´s natural environment which keeps the costs down as well. The ultimate cost of the carbon footprint associated with wine

features

transportation and storage of the investment will be minimal. To trade and transport to and from Gibraltar, is a highlighted benefit. The nucleus of the fine wine trade shipping routes, and a deep sea port, provides a perfect location for merchants and private clients alike. There are obvious financial benefits of storing wine in Gibraltar over any other storage facility in the world, with competitive pricing solutions to store, The Vaults has an extremely favourable taxation environment for wine storage and investment. No capital gains exists, so wine can be stored in and out of bond in our state of the art facility. There is no VAT charged on the storage, and no inheritance tax exists in Gibraltar.

Renovation for Gibraltar Wine Vaults begins in February 2016 and the group has already started reserving space for phase 1. The group is also building a Visitor Centre for tourists, with wine tasting and an Interpretation Centre about the 200year wine trading history of Gibraltar. This will all be complete by June 2017. The second phase will be complete 12 months later.

DO YOU HAVE TO BE AN EXPERT IN WINE TO INVEST/TRADE IN WINE? Not at all. There are wine advisory companies who can recommend and manage portfolios for you, as well as direct investment into wine funds. You can buy and sell wine yourself on trading exchanges or through brokers but I would always advise it is best to use someone you know or is well established in

the market - wine merchants or traders. Investing in wine is fun, interesting and can also be profitable. Wine prices have stabilised over the last few years, so the returns are not as high as they once were but the stability and market levelling is a better environment for investment. But, it is always best to get the right advice from experts within the industry before investing. Plus, you need to be sure of the wine’s provenance. Then, a guarantee of perfect storage is vital for your wine’s future valuation; which is where Gibraltar Wine Vaults can provide this peace of mind. Also buying and selling wine must be with a reputable company. Do not invest in wine, or any financial asset, with cold callers or without checking their reputation with existing trade partners. Transparency is key.

"BITCOIN IS BETTER THAN CURRENCY"

The Money

I$$UE

BITCOINS If every wealthy person in the world decided to draw their money from the bank, what would be the result? It just could not happen! There just would not be enough physical money to pay them. It’s a well known fact that most of the world’s wealth only exists electronically, virtual money as it is known. The government knows it, and a majority of wealthy people know it too. 40 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

features

I’m going to tell you now about a fact that is not too well known, there is another kind of money that only exists as a virtual currency, and its name is bitcoin! Bitcoin was invented by a guy called Satoshi Nakamoto although nobody knows this guy’s real name, but this is the alias he is known by. It all adds to the mystique of the bitcoin world! He invented it and published a paper explaining it in 2008. The paper was called, Bitcoin, A Peer To Peer Electronic Cash System which is readily available for reading on the internet. It is a difficult concept to grasp.

An actual bitcoin is a number like this 011010010011010 This number is the bitcoin!! It is then attached to an account number on the internet. There are two numbers in any account, one is the number that you control your account with, this is called your “private key”. This number must be kept secret as it will unlock your account. Whoever has this can do what they like with your account, including

stealing your bitcoins!! The other number is similar to the above, but this is called a public key. The easiest way to understand it is to think of it like an email address you have. You can give your email address to anyone you like, and nobody can do a thing with it, all they can do is send into it: they can’t take your emails out. This is the same with your public key. People can send bitcoins into it, but without your private key, they cannot take them out. Once you have this account you can then transfer your bitcoin number to other account numbers as a currency valued at the bitcoin daily price, which is dictated in a similar manner to regular currency. Anyone who has a bitcoin account number has basically agreed to honour the transaction by virtue of the fact they have created a bitcoin account. As explained, view it as the money in the electronic system of the banks of the world, but without the charges. Also, without the government backing, it’s going to take time for people to gain confidence in it. Possibly the bitcoin will just be like the internet: not many people ever fully understand the workings of it, but will accept that it is just there, and it works! Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer decentralised currency, which means

the world’s governments have limited control over it. There are no banks involved to store it, and charge you extortionate fees. Peer to peer means person to person. So each person who owns bitcoins has them totally in their control. The layman’s concept is this. You open what is called “a bitcoin wallet”, there is an app for this and it is in your smart phone. A wallet is a place where your bitcoins are stored. There are several reputable wallets on the internet, and it is important that you use one of these. Blockchain info, armory, coinbase, circle. Put some bitcoins into it and away you go. These can be bought from a bitcoin exchange, or in a private transaction. Once again, because it is such a new concept, you must really take advice on this. If you buy something from someone with bitcoins, that special app in

ISSUE 17 | MARBELLAROCKS

features

each of your wallets allows you both just to scan each other’s accounts, and receive and deliver payment in just a few seconds! WOW! No charges, no messy change, and no chance of bank or credit card fraud using the system itself. Imagine what this concept will do, and indeed is doing, for third world countries, regarding the movement of money? Firstly, many people who live in third world countries have not got bank accounts. This leaves them open to high charges from the likes of Western Union and other money transfer companies. Contrary to what people think, many people in third world countries do have access to the internet, and mobile phones. There are actual government schemes in place as we speak to convert the whole of Africa into a Wi-Fi country. In the 6 years since bitcoins have appeared there has not been one person on the planet that has yet breached the bitcoin security. Don’t get me wrong, there have been breaches due to human error, but no one has ever broken the bitcoin technology. Some of the most influential people in the modern day computer world, Bill Gates included, have declared that the technology that is the bitcoin block chain is probably going to change the way we conduct transactions forever. Further

WORDS BY:

advocates of the bitcoin frenzy are Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. Both twins are known for their successful victory against Mark Zuckerberg, suing him for stealing the original Facebook idea from them. Recently they have invested $11,000,000 in bitcoin, declaring that each bitcoin will soon be worth in the region of $40,000, someday soon. They have further campaigned and are in the process of opening an exchange, called Gemini, with which they are endeavoring to regulate bitcoins, and are in talks with some big American institutions to further this transaction technology. Currently, there are 450,000 businesses worldwide accepting bitcoin. That’s not nearly enough to stop us using money and turn to bitcoin for the rest of eternity. There is a far bigger picture of bitcoin and it is a matter of interest to us all. Bitcoin is the internet of the 70s, the mobile phone of the 80s. Bitcoin is a revolution. We are being given the chance today to invest in life changing technology. I believe that bitcoin, in the not too distant future, is going to be worth many many times what it is today. It has already been worth $1250, and I think we are going to see this again soon. According to one leading economist, bitcoin has volatility seven times greater than gold, eight

times greater than S and P 500, and 18 times greater than the US Dollar. Figures like this will either scare the hell out of you, or fill you with a sense of endless investment scenarios. However, let’s look at a 3 to 5 year investment, I am not going to start manufacturing obscene figures that I can’t substantiate, no one can make that call. This is an unknown concept. What I will say is that if bitcoin becomes the world’s number one crypto currency, and there is a chance of that, there are only going to be 21,000,000 bitcoins ever produced, with 14,000,000 in circulation at the moment. The actual bitcoin chain has agreed to not release the final block of bitcoins until 2040.This will work towards achieving two things with bitcoin. First it will work towards bitcoin not becoming over inflated, because there will only be a limited amount in circulation, and second it can only drive the price of bitcoin up, because of the limited amount that will be released. So where are we going to be next year? Who can say? What I can say is you have all been warned and told about a very exclusive investment here, and if you choose to ignore it, be that at your financial peril!

THE MEN

Think layering here; this is perfect for keeping warm in the colder months but then still having clothing you can re-use when the weather gets a little warmer. A ‘Grandad Top’ (see the Henley Top) and a Roll Neck are both perfect for this. Wear under gilets, shirts, jackets and thick jumpers in the winter, then on their own in spring. Add a scarf for another layered effect. Smart/Casual - The ‘Dessert Boots’ are another good addition. They are the perfect boot to take you from day to night. Wear with jeans or chinos for a simple yet smart look. The blazer is great in a tweed fabric gives it a more casual look, whilst still being on the smart side (just lose the black tie!). Add the roll neck or Grandad top underneath and let the jacket do the talking. Team up with the dessert boots and a pair of chinos, and voila – smart/casual at its best.

BOOHOO SHIRT €22.95

It’s all about comfort and class. A jumpsuit is the perfect item to dress up or down in your wardrobe. In the colder months wear with boots, a blazer and scarf, or go for a jumper and pumps. In the warmer months throw on the gladiator sandals. Shirts glam up any outfit too; wear with jeans, pencil skirts or tailored trousers. Work them into a formal look or a sports look. Layering is important for us ladies too. A cape is a great alternative to a coat; just make sure you have plenty of layers underneath. A roll neck or shirt/jumper combo would look

STYLE RESOLUTIONS

As part of my new year article I´ve sought guidance from my lawyer friend, Maj Britt, to help me write what would be her fashion new year resolutions. I work in the fashion industry so I am very good at managing my clothing and wardrobe and have helped hundreds of style confused people here on the coast achieve their dream new looks.

MAJ'S

STORY 48 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

MAJ'S STORY

It’s a brand new year. And I don’t know about you, readers, but I’m excited to leave 2015 behind. After a brutal few months at work and suffering through the “novovirus” (whatever that was), I’m ready for a fresh start. For the first time ever, in addition to the usual life resolutions (go to the gym more often, bring my lunch to work) I’m making the following style resolutions in an effort to revive my wardrobe and my life:

MISSGUIDED JUMPSUIT €35

WAREHOUSE CAPE €45

STEPHANIE´S BOUDOIR €149

FASHION

Resolution #1:

I will finally focus on my weekend wardrobe. You read that right — weekend wardrobe. But wait, isn’t this supposed to be a work style column? Well, yes…but all work and no play makes me a dull girl. You’ve gotta live a little, and you can look good doing it! I don’t know about you, but my wardrobe can be split into two categories: work clothing, and anything that resembles sweatpants, yoga pants, sweatshirts and T-shirts that would be appropriate for painting and window washing. In other words, I end up wearing my work blazers and blouses on the weekend. Which is all well and good from a versatility and budgeting perspective, but also kind of sad. So I’ll ensure that not everything I buy is for work. (This also makes me think of a new “life” resolution — actually get out and enjoy the weekend!)

Resolution #2:

For every new piece I buy, I will donate another. Easier said than done. Right now, my closet looks like a bomb exploded in it. And I’m not alone — for many of us, more is better. We get attached to the stuff we wore in previous years, whether for comfort or nostalgia. We think that more stuff equals more options. But guess what? That packed closet is a false sense of security. Too many options mean that the really good items — the clothing that makes you feel like a million bucks — are forgotten, pressed between ill-fitting pants and skirts from your articling student days (I still have the very first suit I bought in 2005 for a Job interview I have not worn it in three years). If you’re anything like me, you just end up wearing the same pieces anyway — why try to convince yourself that you’ll wear that high-waisted skirt with the price tags still on it? You, your lifestyle and your body will all change. Don’t let the old prevent you from experiencing the new!

Resolution #3:

ZARA COAT €69.95

H&M TROUSERS €19.99

TOPSHOP LEATHER TROUSERS €115

FASHION

I will search out clothing options off the beaten path. Don’t get me wrong — I will always go to Zara, J. Crew and H&M. They’re like the fashion equivalent of your best friends from high school — they know you, and they’re always there for you. But sometimes we have to branch out. There are tons of undiscovered gems in Marbella, from little indie shops and vintage stores to lines at department stores hidden among the stuff your mum buys. With the help of style blogs and some patient fashion-forward friends, I’m going to move out of my shopping comfort zone. Ultimately, scavenging the lesser-known shops means supporting local talent and finding unique pieces.

Resolution #4:

I will seek inspiration from other women. Right now, I’m obsessed with Zahra aka Stylist Marbella. She simply oozes confidence and supercool style, and I kind of want to be like her -more accessories, more dresses and less pants. I also love model Miranda Kerr’s style — she mixes prints with traditional pieces and her unconventional accessories always make her stand out. She always manages to look elegant in classic pieces with statement jewellery, with chic hairstyles and love of colour (I especially covet her cobalt pumps) encourage me to move beyond black. Honestly, the best source of ideas is other women. Observe them and learn! So there you have it: my style resolutions are complete and in print for the world to see. Now I´ve just got to test them out on a daily basis. Wish me luck!.

ant your lips to have an instant 'wow' factor? Cast aside last season's berry shades and vamp it up with the deepest, darkest shade on the colour spectrum ‐ black! Worn by Kendall Jenner in New York Fashion Week, Marc Jacobs' “almost ebony” lips commanded the catwalk and as any closet fashionista knows, what's presented by Marc Jacobs, usually dictates the trends for the entire season alone. Also seen at shows by Emanuel Ungaro and Ashley Williams, the essential key to this contemporary look is the apparent lack of any other makeup. The face is a fresh and dewy canvas that beautifully contrasts with the dark and mysterious lip. When selecting your shade… Look at the veins on your wrist to find out your skin's undertone is. Blue veins = cool Green veins = warm Women with cool or pink undertones like actress Lilly Collins should choose a warmer toned lipstick with red hues. While women like Rihanna with olive or golden undertones should pick a blue based shade (these particular shades make your teeth look extra white!).

HOW TO APPLY

• Prep your lips by gently exfoliating them with a mixture of your favourite moisturiser and a dab of sugar. • Once sufficiently supple, take your selected lip liner and start by defining the top of your cupid's bow, working your way outwards. (fill the whole lip for extra intensity and longevity.) • Now with your selected lipstick, apply carefully over the lips to create an even coverage. (For an even darker tone, go over your lips a second time with the liner) • To finish off your vampy look, take a small brush or cotton bud and with a dab of concealer, clean up the edges to create a crisp, clean silhouette.

TOP TIPS

Don´t be afraid to over‐line your lip ‐ Darker shades allow you the luxury of easily expanding the size of your lips or even changing the line of your cupid's bow. Choose a sheer black instead of an opaque shade to avoid crossing into Morticia Addams territory! Why not try an ombré effect by adding a lighter shade on the bottom lip to create the illusion of dimension and volume. Add a little gloss on the middle of your bottom lip on a special occasion or evening.

hat better way to start the New Year than introducing a drastic colour change or cut. And let´s face it, everyone loves a hair transformation – it can take years off your age and inject a feeling of “a new you” after a simple trip to the local salon. If you´ve always been a fan of blonde hair but feel the brightest hues of celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow or Gwen Stefani are unattainable then think again. With a brand new product on the market called Olaplex, it enables hair technicians like myself, to push boundaries with hair colouring we never thought possible less than a year ago. Created by two chemical scientists Dr. Eric Pressly and Dr. Craig Hawker, Olaplex reconnects broken disulphide bonds in the hair. By rebuilding these bonds it stops chemical damage from the effects of bleaching, perming and heat damage from even occurring in the first place. To top it off, Olaplex can help prevent split ends and allow users to achieve platinum and icy tones that would previously cause darker hair to break off. Kim Kardashian´s recent ash blonde transformation was achieved by celebrity colourist and Olaplex fan Tracey Cunningham. Kim was able to go from brunette to blonde and back again without compromising the health of her glossy locks. Other A-List fans include Jennifer Lopez, Cate Blanchett and Kate Moss. Not since GHD straighteners have I witnessed a product breaking boundaries in the hair industry. When GHD´s were first launched it meant an end to wavy or frizzy hair. Clients were able to achieve shorter more

HAIR & BEAUTY

funky styles or longer sleeker looking hair. Previous straighteners would barely melt butter! With Olaplex, transformations in the looks clients can achieve are more readily available and it gives stylists the confidence to make a client´s dream hair-do come true. After a lengthy consultation with Marbella Rocks Editor, Sam, it was decided to get rid of her Ombre extensions and undergo a complete colour change and mid-length bob hair cut. This length was chosen as Sam still wanted to put her hair up, similar to Caroline Flack´s recent X Factor do. With Olaplex in toe we underwent the transformation in the following stages: Olaplex no.1 is added to the bleach and peroxide mixture and

BEFORE

applied to the hair. This does mean that we can push the boundaries of lifting hair colour further than we previously have known. After a reapplication of bleach and Olaplex we thoroughly rinsed and applied a toner to soften the colour and neutralise any warm tones still present. Once the toner is rinsed we apply Olaplex no.2, to towel dried hair for 10 minutes - at this point you realise that the hair is in fantastic condition, The hair feels strong with plenty of elasticity. Note that there is no broken hair in the basin or comb! The Olaplex has permanently rebuilt the disulphide bonds. Hair is then shampooed and normal treatment applied; with Sam we used Joico Kpak range.

AFTER

Olaplex can also be used as a standalone treatment for strengthening hair that has been severely weakened and damaged and also added to colour, toners, perms, keratin treatments etc. Although it enables us as technicians to push the boundaries of lightening hair further it isn’t a green light to carelessly bleach up weak hair! There is a retail version of Olaplex for clients to buy called simply no.3 and is a once a week treatment to be used at home.

T

he season of goodwill is over, the turkey and the Christmas cake have been demolished, leftovers too. The odd glass of festive wine or beer sank and the all round comfortable happiness of the holidays has passed and for many, reality, guilt and self loathing sets in. “New Year new me” right? Gym and health club owners across the globe are rubbing their hands together at the prospect of hoards of New Year’s resolutioners signing up with all their new gym gear, a spring in their step and good intentions of making a change. Treadmills will be full, good luck finding a locker and most regular gym lovers frustrations will boil over (there’s nothing worse than waiting for your turn when you’re in the flow). But we all sleep safe in the knowledge that it won’t last long. By March the weights room will be half empty, too many TRX to choose from, no one curling in the squat rack and that guy that always interrupts your sets to ask “what protein do ya use?” has gone. The majority of the New Year squad have fallen by the wayside, many still paying the direct debit (Big Mike the gym owner still rubbing his hands). Today I’m going to talk about a few ways I think you can motivate yourself to stay the course, keep grinding and never give up on that “summer bod” you so dreamt of whilst in your food coma on your Nan’s couch watching Home Alone 2 for the 19th time. Don’t be that one that pays for Big Mikes Caribbean cruise for nothing. Let’s highlight some common reasons that people don’t achieve results, lose patience and give up on the dream. Time and time again I see folks really busting a gut and putting the work in. Often people that I will see in there as much as me and that leave drenched from effort are then still seeing the same body and getting frustrated. Of course “what’s the point” starts to creep in and people actually start to believe that the other people they look at for inspiration must have some special genes or a “Fast metabolism” NO........JUST NO. You need to ask some questions at this point. Why am I not losing weight when I’m running for an hour then spinning and hitting the cross trainer for an extra hour before I leave? The answer is simply because that is not how you do it. Don’t be ignorant, learn a little bit about how the body reacts to cardio exercise and in turn how you need to fuel your body to accommodate it. The information is in our pockets and even then if you stand confused take one or 2 of those forgot ten direct debit costs and enlist a professional to point you in the right direction.

LACK OF A PLAN

9 times out of 10 a budding entrepreneur that starts without a solid and well thought out business plan will fail in his first year of trading. Much the same, an ambitious New Year resolutionist without a solid plan will fail in the first year of training.

HEALTH & FITNESS

Make a long term plan

Make a long term plan/goal; write it down with a timescale to achieve it. Perhaps “I want to lose 2 kg and tone up my butt and arms in 12 weeks.” Ok so you’ve written it down well done. Here’s the important part QUESTION!! How do I go about achieving this? 1. Join Gym 2. Learn what foods I should and shouldn’t eat and a little about basic nutrition 3. Learn some exercises and techniques for toning these areas BOOM look at that, wasn’t so hard. Now you have a plan, some ammunition to charge in there with and get to work on your new project.

ADD SHORT TERM MINI GOALS

I always find that when I install a short term goal mentality in clients it always helps to keep things exciting and fresh. Also choosing some short term goals that are contrasting to your long term can help. For example our main goal being weight loss but in the meantime let us concentrate on building strength in a couple of areas. The most popular short term goal I will receive is to be able to do Pull Ups. So we set a date and go for it shaping the back workouts around gaining strength in this area. Once you have achieved this choose another “I’ve always wanted to be able to squat with a bar like the girls on Instagram.” BOOM let’s do it!!!

SCALES - MISUNDERSTANDING FAT VS. MUSCLE

It’s very important to understand the weight comparison between fat and muscle. Muscle weighs much more than fat so we have to acknowledge that even as we burn fat we make muscle and in this case going by scales can be misleading. I like to encourage people to refer to their change as “fat loss” instead of “weight loss” and gauge it by utilising a “visual diary” whereby you take 4 or 5 pictures in the same place and in similar lighting once a week. When you have busted your ass and dieted well to then stand on the scales and see you have added 1lb can be disheartening when you

don’t understand this concept. When in fact the case may be that you have built muscle in your booty and toned up your arms. This is using the weight not losing it.

LONELINESS

Changing your lifestyle and starting a journey like this can alienate you from your friends. Perhaps they don’t understand why you’re not out 3 nights a week anymore or that you’re not joining in pizza night anymore. I find that when people couple up or have a training partner the success rate improves. Find someone who is of similar mind that you can at least drive to and from with and can chat about boring stuff like what protein flavour is best. Your regular friends can become bored of that kind of talk very easily. It also doesn’t hurt to have a little fun rivalry with your training buddy.

BINGEING

There just simply is no excuse for spending money and time in a gym and then undoing it all with a Toblerone habit. Understand and accept early that there has to be sacrifices. Sit and think about this before you start and make an honest list of dangers. The things you are likely going to be weak with. Give yourself an allowance of your favourite treats and plan when you can have them, perhaps as a reward. The worse thing we can do is allow random cheat days or treats. It ends up the same as that extra €30 you know you have in the bank but you spent 3 times already today!!!! Schedule your cheats and treats and buy less if not cut out the foods you know are going to slow the six-pack down.

INSTAGRAM

Lastly I have to mention this. The Instagram fitness community have been integral to my progress and inspiration from day one. Some will complain but forget them, it’s usually jealous negativity. Take selfies, post food pics and generally make a hell of a noise about what you intend to achieve. There are millions out there in your same position and they will appreciate that common ground. When you start to show progress you will in turn become an inspiration to others and when they show that to you your drive will increase 10 fold. Remember “haters gonna hate” but this is a New Year, New You and no one or nothing is going to get in your way. Good luck and NEVER LOOK BACK!

SEA GRILL

Y

ou´d be hard pushed to find a more beautiful and tranquil surrounding than at the Puente Romano Beach and Spa Resort´s beachside restaurant Sea Grill..

84 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 17

Set among a stunning oasis of pools right on the exotic palm tree lined beaches of Marbella´s gorgeous and famous Golden Mile, the Sea Grill Restaurant has a myriad of levels and choices of where to dine. If you are after a cocktail or coffee then the outdoor terrace has sea views to die for and offers a casual beachside bar snack menu to accompany. The interior of the main restaurant is decorated in pale blue and distressed wooden decking with white furniture

and high ceilings for a light and breezy feel. There is also a smarter mezzanine level which houses a grand piano and sleek bar area with dining tables and low level seating, so guests can enjoy pre and after dinner drinks if they wish. The Sea Grill is ubiquitous with serving some of the finest fish dishes on the coast. The large fish tanks built into the interior of the restaurant are full of fresh lobster – some as large as 5kg. There is also Giant Scampi, Jumbo King Prawns, Sea Bream and Whole Sole. On the recommendation of the chef, we opted for the Grilled Fillet of Sea Bass, which was cooked to perfection with a slight tang of garlic and lemon. The Sea Bass must have been incredibly large as the portion width was a good 2 inches. It came served with a colourful array of salad and vegetables including asparagus, courgettes, corn on the cob, grilled tomatoes and sautéed potatoes.

gastronomy Our testers also went for Prawns Pil Pil which were fresh, succulent and cooked with just the right amount of spice –not too overpowering with garlic or chili. There are also over 20 Nigiri, Sasimi and Maki Sushi dishes to chose from on Sea Grill´s impressive menu. A light Sauvignon was offered to go with our fish courses and suited the palette and flavours of the fish perfectly. A great idea of the Sea Grill´s was to come up with a stunning Salad Buffet which could serve as a starter or as a main course, or as both! With over 40 dishes including King Prawns, Fresh Tuna, Smoked Salmon and Octopus this is a salad bar with a difference. So beautiful in presentation you might feel hesitant

to tuck in – but do - as everything is freshly served and nothing is ever reused after the different sittings. If fish is not to your liking there is a good selection of meat dishes on offer including Lamb Cutlets, Galician Entrecote and Grilled Chicken Breast. Our testers went for the Galician Beef Tenderloin, cooked medium rare with a trio of sauces; Chimichuri, Béarnaise and Teriyaki. It was fantastic and the tenderloin literally melted in your mouth. It was kindly recommended by the attentive waiter to try a glass of red with the beef before it arrived, which the tasters gladly did – and it went hand in hand with the dish. Plus it also showed the staff have been trained to ensure guests have the best dining experience at Sea Grill,

which is paramount in many people´s view of selecting a restaurant. The Sea Grill dessert selection was great too with some healthy and not-so-healthy options. Undoing a belt notch, our testers dived into a white chocolate brownie dessert and a doughnut and banner fritter ensemble. Both were delicious and served with delightfully large fresh fruit – great considering we were out of season for both the ginormous strawberries and raspberries on offer. All in all – as this write-up suggests – the Puente Romano´s Sea Grill is a fantastic five-star dining experience. If you are after that little bit of something special then this is the right place for you.

Sea Grill is open everyday from 11am till midnight with live music every night. For reservations, please contact: +34 952 820 900 or restaurantes@puenteromano.com

rene Sekulic is not new to us at Marbella Rocks. We met her last June for our Like a Queen fashion editorial and discovered a professional and sensitive photographer who had recently won the Silver Lux Award in Documental Photography. On further examination we realised Irene´s photographs are in themselves, fascinating works of art. We thought we´d showcase some of her most thought provoking work to date and give you a glimpse of the woman behind the lens. We hope you enjoy! Irene is an Italian professional photographer based in Marbella. She works in the Fashion Industry of the Costa del Sol producing editorials, campaigns, catalogues for designers, brands, boutiques and magazines with her esteemed production company. Irene started her professional career in 2012. She is naturally attracted by "Beauty" in all its form. With a style that is constantly in pursuit of human emotions and feelings, she consistently creates delicate yet powerful images. Irene's photographs are published in Photovogue of Vogue Italia, where she won Photo of the Day in

2013, through the 35 photographers chosen by Vogue Italia for the Photolux - the International Photography Festival in Lucca. Part of the AFPE (Association of Professional Photographers of Spain), Irene won the 2013 Bronze Lux Award in Personal Project and the first prize of Black and White Photographer of the year in the Self Portrait category. "I am personally really interested in human beings and behaviours and thanks to photography, I can connect to people through my camera; sharing their story, their personal moments, it's an amazing journey. Fashion Photography is also

incredibly interesting in the power it has to influence people. I didn´t fully realise that until I had my experience as a photography teacher to more than 100 students from 11 to 18 years old. It has been truly amazing and it has made a difference in my decisions and projects to develop,” she says. Irene has recently started a project to involve and support teenagers through photography and its language. In 2016 Irene will embark on a year-long exhibition tour of the Lux Awards with her winner Documental Photography series.

L

ove is a beautiful multifaceted diamond, presenting a spectrum of colours of vast and varied hues. In this month’s column, I would like to invite you to consider: What does love mean to you? What type of love is your relationship built on? What kind of love do you want to experience? And to offer a few tips on how to enhance your loving relationships. Love is romance In a romantic relationship, you find yourself with someone who meets your ideal of the image of the partner you believe that you want; an unconscious attraction. Romantic love fills you with overwhelming thoughts and feelings about love that satisfy these unconscious beliefs. In her book, ‘Love and Limerance’, Dorothy Tennor highlights the romantic love as: • Intrusive thoughts about the object of passionate desire • Acute longing for reciprocation • Fear of rejection when in the presence of the one you love • An aching fluttering heart • Buoyancy (a feeling of walking on air) • An intensity of feeling that leaves other concerns in the background • A remarkable ability to emphasize the positive traits of the one you love, while rendering their negative traits as ‘endearing’. Q: If you relate to these statements, you are in a romantic love. The important questions are: Does this type of love serve you well, or, does it distract from some of your important values? Does it fulfil you? Does it disempower you? Does it make you happy? Love is an unconscious attraction Sometimes your partner is a psychological replacement of your childhood experiences. It is believed by some psychologists that this occurs when you have unfinished

psychology business or unmet needs and emotional wounds from your childhood caregivers. Your partner heralds an opportunity to heal these wounds, if that is, you can see the patterns playing out and bring the unconscious to your awareness. Q. Do you repeatedly attract the same relationship dynamics and challenges? • Do you attract partners that treat you in the same negative way as one of your parents? • Does your partner make you feel devalued, unloved or trigger a deep fear of rejection or abandonment? • Are you constantly faced with partners who challenge you to speak up for yourself? • Does your relationship trigger an anxious need for security or control? • Do you recognise a familiar pattern that existed between you and your parents or caregivers? • Do you or your partner project feelings and emotions onto each other, that on analysis you may recognise belong to your caregivers? If you notice there are patterns reflecting unmet needs, this provides you with an opportunity to ask for these needs to be met now and to embark on a process of healing. Love is sexual attraction It sparks through the physical qualities or traits of a person; clothing, scent, beauty, adornments, physique. If you like what you see, the reason for the attraction is clear, but if you cannot explain the attraction, and you just feel it, this may be due to pheromones. It is believed that pheromones are involved in sexual attraction; a type of scent bearing chemical secreted in sweat and other bodily fluids. Psychologist, Bettina Pause, told Scientific American magazine: "My guess is that a lot of our communication is influenced by chemo signals." This is supported by studies at the University of Texas that showed men can detect when a women is fertile due to pheromones. Q: Is your love built on sexual attraction? This type of attraction can be argued as an evolutionary form of attraction to ensure reproduction. It is unconscious and a basic instinct, adding passion to a relationship. Love is an intimate connection This type of relationship is founded on emotional closeness; it is about being able to let down your guard with each other to share feelings in space of acceptance. Q: Is your love intimate? • Are you able to let each other know how you feel about each other? • Are you able to let yourself be dependent and to receive nurturing? • Is this balanced, or is one partner the 'strong one' who never needs to show any vulnerability?

Love is built on values While feelings create temporary importance in a relationship, love values give enduring meaning and purpose to your life and enrich your relationship with an enriching love. • Equality: Rights, preferences, and responsibilities are more or less equal. Neither has authority over the other. • Fairness: Partners maintain mutually acceptable division of labour and responsibility for the growth and wellbeing of the family. • Support: Partners confide in each other and are "there" for one another. • Loving behaviour: Partners are compassionate, showing care and desire to help when one is distressed, hurt, or in need of help. They engage in mutually satisfying physical affection, sexual passion, and meaningful or enjoyable activities. • Acceptance: Partners accept each other for who they are, unconditionally. Try this - Create more love: Integrate love values: Consider the values of love and your most important personal values, and integrate these into your relationship. If you and your partner both make a committed decision to enhance love values, your love will be enriched and your relationship will flourish. Ask for your needs to be met: Your partner can say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, what is important is to ask. This is loving yourself. If your partner cannot give what you need, you may decide this is not the love you want to be in, but you may just find that he/she responds as you hope or better, and that they too, have unmet needs that need to be requested of you. By asking for your needs, you give others permission to ask for theirs. In this communication, a relationship can become happier. Integrate aspects of love: Whether you resonate with romantic love, intimacy, sexual attraction, unconscious attraction or rating based love, by recognising where your love strengths are, and what type of love your relationship is built on, you can take action to develop the quality of your relationship, to heal old wounds and enhance happiness together.

ISSUE 17 | MARBELLAROCKS 109

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8-year-olds,

'What does love mean?'

The answers they got were broader, deeper, and more profound than anyone could have ever imagined!

'Love is when my mummy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.' Danny - age 4

See what you think: 'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore.. so my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.' ♥ Rebecca - age 8

'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.'

♥ Terri - age 4

'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and just listen.' ♥ Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.'

♥ Nikka - age 6

(we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) 'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.'

♥ Noelle - age 7

'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.'

♥ Tommy - age 6

'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.'

♥ Billy - age 4

'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.'

♥ Karl - age 5

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your french fries without making them give you any of theirs.'

♥ Chrissy - age 6

'During my piano recital, I was on stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.' ♥ Cindy - age 8 'My mummy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.'

♥ Clare - age 6

'Love is when Mummy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'

♥ Elaine - age 5

'Love is when Mummy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.' ♥ Chris - age 7 'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.'

♥ Mary Ann - age 4

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.'

♥ Lauren - age 4

'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image)

♥ Karen - age 7

'Love is when Mummy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross..'

♥ Mark - age 6 'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.'

♥ Jessica - age 8

And the final one:

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbour, the little boy said,

"Nothing, I just helped him cry.” ISSUE 17 | MARBELLAROCKS 113

ASTROLOGY 2016

Marbella Rocks Astrology Forecast

YOUR YEAR AHEAD

Aries

Gemini

Leo

21 MAR – 20 APR Later in 2016 you’ll be exploring long term partnerships in all their various forms and the power of two. As the year begins however you need to keep whatever you are told in the vault. There’s a power to holding onto secrets (just ask a Scorpio!) but the bottom line is - if you are told something in confidence keep it. If you are tempted to blab your reputation will suffer. The other side of this coin is needing to confide in another. Ensure that vault of secrets is on lock down and if you have any doubts at all about your confidant, better to opt for a professional whose confidentiality is guaranteed, than take a risk. That partnership exploration I promised may begin sooner rather than later as a hot and intense encounter could be the fire that sustains you all the way into summer.

22 MAY – 21 JUNE Friends and connections from your past may feature and if someone has been on your mind recently then why not be the one to reach out and back and see what happens? Others could encounter someone they haven’t seen in a while when out socialising and in quite possibly the last place they would have thought to run into them. If something revives now it could be with new relevance. This also extends to former lovers but if you’ve been holding on to that torch then just ensure that you have both dealt with the issues that caused you to part in the first place if you don’t want a re-run of heartbreak. Travel puts you in the path of unusual people and/ or experiences. Grow your own worldwide friendship web now.

24 JULY – 23 AUG If you’ve been putting that partner on a pedestal they could come crashing down but if this happens think about who put them up there in the first place. New beginnings with partners beckon so even if Humpty is in bits, chances are you could put him or her back together stronger. Singles could see the emergence of an enticing prospect or joint ventures take off. Timing plays a huge role in what happens now. If the time is right for love, that new job or journey, then provided you put in the ground work it will happen. If it’s not right, perhaps it is time for a ‘hands-off’ approach or to look at how you can fine tune efforts for future success. Fate plays a role now as destiny puts people or opportunities in your path. One thing is certain, if you are banging on doors which remain closed – it is time to try a different door.

Taurus

Cancer

Virgo

21 APR – 20 MAY Plant seeds now for a rich harvest later when it comes to work and business goals. It’s not about reaping overnight rewards but putting in long term and sustained effort with an eventual payoff down the track. But if it’s what you love you are more than willing to do what it takes now as quiet ambitions are favoured. There’s no need to go around telling the world how smart you are when you know it inside for certain. On the romance front take care not to ruin a good thing by wanting it all your own way. Singles could meet someone whose sensual appetite matches their own but don’t derail that Love Train by calling all the shots or worse, allowing control or manipulation issues darken the fantasy (50 Shades aside!). Fall in love with a real human being and don’t get caught up in fantasy. They’re not perfect and heads-up … neither are you, but are you perfect for each other.

22 JUNE – 23 JULY Changes lie ahead but don’t fear the ‘c’ word as transformation means rebirth to follow. If things do not change they cannot get better and the start of the year could usher some long-overdue shifts for a reason: to set the tone for improvements for the rest of 2016. A break from work restrictions may be on the horizon and if travelling you could feel a deep spiritual connection to your destination. However, ensure your desire to explore other worlds doesn’t lead you to stop paying attention to what is going on in this one. Keep your wits about you whether you are staying close to home or going further afield and pay attention to work details or you could come back down to earth with a bump.

24 AUG – SEPT 3 That touch of glamour you’re exuding weaves its own fascination and you’ll draw others to you without effort simply because they want to know that that magic is, Virgo. Creating the right impression whether it’s for personal or professional reasons should be effortless provided you stick to being yourself and not emulating others. What you and you alone have to offer now is what someone out there is looking for be it your smarts or simply you. If it ain’t broke then don’t even try to fix it or mess with it. Singles could pull in someone into their orbit who feels just like a twin soul as you resonate emotionally, spiritually and physically. Work that star power to kick-start 2016, Virgo.

Libra

Sagittarius

Aquarius

24 SEPT – 23 OCT Even if others can’t see it, you should know deep down by now you have attained some serious success when it comes to spiritual and personal goals now. The start of the year continues that theme with gains made on perhaps an intangible level as in inner growth and knowledge as opposed to worldly success. What do you think forms the foundation for outer success in the first place? You’ve got it - all that inner work and wisdom. Without them, external rewards are likely to be ephemeral. You’re going to experience tangible and material benefits from this manifest later in the year but for now, stick with the program. The start of the year may actually deliver the first long term benefit from all this with your name on it which enhances your future on some level. You’ll stun everyone later this year with what you have been up to but for now keep up the good work.

23 NOV – 21 DEC Get ready to do something different, Sagittarius. The more unique and original your ideas - the more you need to do something with them. An off-beat romance with someone who is very much their own person could offer your heart-starter for 2016. Success could very well rest on your willingness to explore new groups of people, new ideas, new places and a different social scene as well as that lover who can only be described as a horse of a different colour. You know you need to keep mixing it up to avoid boredom so this should leave you with nothing to complain about. What or who you are seeking may be found in unusual places, people and circumstances. As the Zen saying goes: Cast your line into every pool. Where you least expect it - there will be a fish.

21 JAN – 19 FEB Contacts and friends who are established, long term or with whom there is a significant age gap - plus or minus seven years, are going to prove to be your best resources now. If applying for a new job, look to companies which have been around for a bit but who are committed to constant evolution. Potential lovers may also be significantly older or younger but if a gap doesn’t worry them, it should not worry you either. If love or any other goal is an unshakable belief in your heart then nothing can bring it crashing down. Just remember that. If you’re serious about what you want - be it career recognition, passing an exam, launching a business or being with someone who is not only serious in their intentions, but takes you seriously too, then nothing or no-one can deter your faith in your ability to bring this about - or in your choices now.

Scorpio

Capricorn

Pisces

24 OCT – 22 NOV Whatever that mojo is you’re working at the beginning of 2016, other signs can only look on with envy and wonder where they can get some. Time to take control of the direction you want your life to head in for the coming year and initiate changes yourself rather than just waiting for them to happen. If you do this you will set a series of events in motion, which will bring fresh opportunities and also new connections to your door which will benefit you in the longer term. This is not a time to either stay hidden or be a passenger on the train of life. The time for action is now. News could be on its way from something you either initiate now or which you started at the end of the year that acts as a catalyst for the process. Life is not a spectator sport. Time to bring your best game now.

22 DEC – 20 JAN Take your time with money matters at the beginning of 2016 and don’t be in a rush to sign on the dotted line. A delay may work in your favour as there may be a better deal for you out there. Has your idea of that ideal love changed at all lately? This could be working either way for you - if you have gone for the ‘opposites attract’ theory up until now you could fall for someone exactly like you - or vice versa. Remember who we attract is a reflection of us on some level and if you attract someone different this is a sign of a shift. Go over what is said, emailed or communicated to you carefully. Time could reveal another meaning or clear up a misunderstanding. If sending anything out - well, proof read first. The truth could be in the subtext now whether you realise what’s been said at the time - or not.

20 FEB – 20 MAR Creativity peaks and your insights get proven to be correct so please don’t ignore what that inner voice has to say. You begin 2016 still enjoying your best cycle for long term partnership prospects in 12 years so if something lasting is your goal then don’t waste a minute of the love potential around you. But nowhere will that intuition be more spot on than with partners and lovers so pay attention. If you know you’re with the right person then stick with them. However, if that voice is telling you different, don’t put off what needs to be done - even if it means stepping into unknown territory for a while. Single? Understand that while the odds are stacked in your favour, this isn’t a case of waiting for your fairy godmother to turn up. Ensure love knows where to find you by making yourself seen. Magic is that simple sometimes.
