he new Marbella reality TV series, covered exclusively in our November issue, has been commissioned and filming takes place this month. The series, being made by Lime Pictures (Hollyoaks, TOWIE), with a former TOWIE director at the helm will start its opening scenes with the female-strong cast during the last week of April at various locations in Marbella. The series is being called Life on Marbs and will feature a gang of girls including Marbella Dress Company´s Felicity Faye Kidd and model and IT girl Natalie Denham. It has been picked up by ITVB, the new youth channel for ITV and is due for broadcast Summer 2015. Lime Pictures remained tight lipped about content and cast members although we can exclusively reveal that Marbella based stylist Zahra Andersen will not be appearing in the show. It is unclear whether Carrie Anne Rowan, a local beautician who does not work at Golden Tarts (Sorry Sarah!) has made the final line-up of cast members. Look out for the film crew around Marbella this month. Marbella Rocks Magazine is expecting to officially meet and interview the cast members shortly so watch out for our feature in the May issue.

everyone’s talking about... X FACTOR GETS NASTY It’s no surprise that the TV talent competition, The X Factor, gets slightly intense when professional judges have to give comments to hopefuls, but the panel on this year’s X Factor New Zealand have definitely taken things a step too far. During a live broadcast on Sunday night, married couple Natalia Kills and Willy Moon, bullied and humiliated young contestant Joe Irvine, immediately after he finished performing the hit song Cry Me A River. Natalia began her torment by commenting “I’m just going to state the obvious: we have a doppleganger in our midst”. Speaking about Irvine’s sauve blue suit and tie, she continued, “As an artist who respects creative integrity and intellectual property, I am disgusted at how much you have copied my husband, from the hair to the suit. Do you not have any value or respect for originality?” After constant booing and heckling from the audience she continued to name Irvine as “cheesy” and a “laughing stock”, and proceeded to claim he “made her sick”. This disgusting behavior has definitely not gone unnoticed. Their bullying has become a sensation on social media. Immediately after the show, popular channel TV3 posted a supportive photo of the young
singer claiming that they do not condone bullying and are on-site with Joe who was “doing well”. After the broadcast, thousands of people went online to rebuke the couple. A petition at change.org was almost immediately set up to remove Kills and Moon from the panel and had over 35,000 signatures by press time. Hundreds of people also took to Twitter to ridicule the pair, posting tweets such as “Worried about wearing a suit today at work. @ NataliaKills might burn me with her tongue for copying her husband # TradeMarkedSuit # xfactornz” and “NZ has one of the highest teenage suicide rates in the world, and the bullying shown on # xfactornz was simply unacceptable!! Get rid of her!” It wasn’t until days after the pair received an explosion of criticism that they took to Twitter to apologise. Posting simultaneous messages on Thursday, Natalia wrote, “At last! I am relieved that I’m finally able to break the silence... xoxo.” She then posted a statement which explained that “a lot goes on behind the scenes of a reality TV show and you see isn’t always the whole story. She finished by personally reaching out to Joe, writing, “I hope you can forgive me and I wish you all the best! Be natural, unconventional and be you!” Although it was all too little too late for the couple and they were quickly axed from the show. It was later confirmed that Aussie X-Factor judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Kiwi drummer Shelton Woolright would replace them in time for the second live show.
ANTONIO BANDERAS SETS DESIGNS ON FASHION CAREER Antonio Banderas is moving to London to study at the prestigious Central Saint Martins design school. The Spanish actor said, “It’s something that has been on my mind for a long time and probably one of the best schools in the world is here, Saint Martins University, and so I am going to start studying with them.”

“I need knowledge to take steps in that territory in the future. It makes me feel actually very young to put the elbows on the table again and try to understand another reality.” “Of course, I won’t stop my professional life, I’ll continue acting, directing, but this is a new thing,” Banderas added.

PATRICK CHEATS ON MILEY Miley Cyrus fans have come out in full force to support her after reports of Patrick Schwarzenegger hooking up with another woman. Patrick was pictured getting cosy with a woman, reportedly named Natalie, while on spring break in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Miley’s superfans quickly stormed to social media in legions, sending threats to the son of famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, offering statements
such as ‘You’d better run for your life…’. And like most cases of fan trolling, they have gone a little too far. Death threats were sent to the 21-year-old for his actions and according to TMZ some of the tweets were borderline dangerous and extreme. The tweets were sent just after it was revealed that 22-yearold Miley actually knows the girl with whom her boyfriend was getting cosy with, and reports show that
RUSSELL CROWE STILL IN LOVE WITH EX In an interview promoting his new film, The Water Diviner, Russell Crowe has revealed he is still very much in love with his ex, Danielle Spencer. The Gladiator star split from his wife in 2012 after nine years of marriage and they have remained on good terms and have not yet divorced.
they was recently pictured together watching a USC Football game. Patrick took to twitter to deny any claims of cheating writing, “OMG it’s one of my best friends’ girlfriend... Would NEVER do anything against my GF..... Girls have guy friends and guys have friends that are girls.” Miley is yet to comment on the photos and instead spent the night partying at The Laugh Factory in West Hollywood.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Russell talked openly about his marriage breakdown. “I’ve loved Danielle Spencer since 1989 - that’s never going to change - and that’s one of those things where I stare at her and go, ‘How did this fail?’ I still can’t work it out, because my feelings for her have never changed.” Asked if the pair could rekindle their romance, he adds: “Once I commit to something, I stick with it, so you never know.” Russell and Danielle have two sons, Charlie and Tennyson, aged 11 and eight respectively.
WRONG DIRECTION It appears that not only one, but two members of popular boyband One Direction are experiencing love issues whilst holidaying in Thailand. Both Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are under fire this week as photos emerged of them leaving a club with a group of girls before supposedly taking them back to their extravagant pad. Cheating rumours were first sparked when backpacker, now known to be 19-year-old East Londoner, Lauren Richardson, posted a snap on Instagram of herself with band member, Zayn, cuddled round her waist. Richardson then told a fellow traveller how she was given a tour of the luxury pad before joining Zayn and bandmate Louis Tomlinson for a raunchy pool party with at least three other girls. Putting a stop to claims that he had cheated on his fiancée, Perrie, he tweeted: “I’m 22 years old. I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there’s a lot of jealous f**** in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like x.” Zayn has decided not to attend the rest of One Direction’s On The Road Again tour this week to fly home to be with Little Mix singer, Perrie Edwards. A spokesman for the band commented: “Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta.” However things aren’t looking as good for fellow band member Louis Tomlinson, who has reportedly officially split from long-term girlfriend Eleanor Calder. The star received intense criticism after the news emerged of his intense kiss with a bikini-clad girl. A source claimed: “It’s been as good as over for a couple of weeks now, but they hadn’t formally put an end to it.”

Jet Ski Comedian Bill Hicks once said, “Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy you a jet ski, and you never see an unhappy person riding a jet ski.” We fully support this if driving across the sea at speeds of over 40mph is something that makes you smile! Jet skis are usually pretty easy to rent along one of Marbella’s many beautiful beaches, but we definitely think a purchase of a Kawasaki jet ski is well worth it. With prices starting at $9,699 they aren’t cheap but they have all the extras, including a brand new Jetsound audio system to listen to music while you ride as well as a supercharged engine to get you flying!

RECIPE
If you’re anything like the Marbella Rocks team to really appreciate your nights out there’s nothing quite like a relaxing night in. Cue DVD, dinner and a good bottle of wine. Here’s a rundown and recipe for a quality night in.
STUFFED SEA BASS This Jamie Oliver Recipe is perfect for those hot summer nights in. The garlic and fennel combination make it especially sumptuous and tangy while really bringing out the flavour of the fish.
INGREDIENTS ● 2 whole sea bass, clean and gutted, head and tail on. ● 1 whole fennel ● 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds ● 2 cloves garlic ● 50ml olive oil ● 30g butter ● ½ a bunch of fresh dill ● ½ a bunch of flat-leaf parsley ● ½ a bunch of fresh mint ● ½ a bunch of fresh basil ● 10 baby potatoes ● 20 capers ● 1 lemon ● 200ml white wine ● 200g tomato and basil sauce
DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat the oven to 190°c/ 375°F/ gas 5.
2. Slice whole fennel, peel and slice garlic and crush fennel seeds.
22 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 09
3. Place a medium pan on a medium heat; add the olive oil and half the butter. Once hot add the fennel and the seeds and fry for 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until the fennel is soft, golden brown and sweet. Leave to cool. 4. Meanwhile place a medium pan on a high heat and cook potatoes for 5 minutes or until parboiled, drain and set aside. 5. Finely chop all the herbs together and add to a bowl with the remaining butter, mix well and set aside. 6. Ensure the sea bass is cleaned inside and out. Pat dry with kitchen paper and make three diagonal cuts to one side of the fish down to the bone. Stuff the cuts with the herb butter and fill the cavity of each fish with two slices of lemon and the cooked fennel. 7. Gently transfer the fish onto the foil. Add the potatoes, capers, tomato sauce and white wine. Fold the foil into a parcel. 8. Place the parcels onto a baking tray and cook for 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow them to sit for 2-3 minutes. Serve with a crisp green salad or steamed vegetables.
WINE MATCH The best match for this amazing stuffed sea bass recipe is an aromatic Sauvignon Blanc or Sauvignon Blanc- Semillon blend. Areas such as Western Australia are particularly good. The herbs in the recipe will complement well with the grape’s grassy and herbaceous notes. Try to avoid the more minerally Sauvignon Blancs such as Sancerre, as these are better with simpler, grilled fish. An alternative match would be a dry rose, from an area such as Southern France. Always a perfect marriage on a summer’s day. Remember to use the same wine in your dish, or at least the same grape variety! Enjoy something new today- Salut!

THE BOY NEXT DOOR
DISCOVER WINE WITH THE WINE ANGEL
A short fling with her teenage neighbour becomes increasingly dangerous for high school teacher and divorcee Claire Peterson, played by the stunning Jennifer Lopez. After she tries to break away from the affair, the student and friend of her son, Noah, played by the handsome Step Up star Ryan Guzman, becomes increasingly obsessive and begins to destroy her world; spreading photos of their sordid affair around the school and removing the brakes off of her ex-husbands car. This psychological thriller is incredibly intense, that is if you’re not somebody who enjoys watching violent scenes full of blood and gore or listening to a spine-chilling sound track for ninety-one minutes, then this might not be for you! Admittedly, this supposed action thriller screams cringe more than anything. Although the film is frightening at points, what is more disturbing is the lack of a meaningful storyline. The over the top ending is strangely enjoyable and defines the saying ‘it´s so bad it is good’. Although your eyes are fixed to the screen, it’s definitely for reasons the director didn’t intend. Directed by British born, The Fast and the Furious, producer and director Rob Cohen, this film has been given a hard time by critics with a 4.3 rating on IMDB but it is well worthy of a watch if you like thriller and horror films. ROCKS RATING:
PADDINGTON The classic children´s character and “marmalade loving” Paddington has been brought back to life (well CGI!) for this fantastic feature length film that children and grown ups alike will enjoy watching. The story begins in Peru where a devastating accident leaves Paddington without his beloved uncle. Young Paddington goes looking for a new home in London and comes across The Brown family who kindly take him in for the night. While the children are keen on keeping Paddington as their own, Mr Brown is keen to find the accident prone bear new lodgings. Hilarious scenes where Paddington floods the house and sets the kitchen on fire are executed brilliantly and will have the audience in stitches. As Paddington´s innocence and charm is slowly endeared to Mr Brown, someone else has their eyes on the bear, taxidermist Millicent Clyde (played by Nicole Kidman). A madcap race to save Paddington ensues and the secret of who saved the bear family is revealed. A brilliant film that doesn´t lose the appeal of the original books and TV series Paddington, helped mostly by the humorous writing of Paul King and special effects by the team that brought you Gravity and Harry Potter.

Marbella Rocks talks exclusively to Luis O´Brien, resident DJ at Malavida Club.
L
uis, nicknamed Dominik DJ was born to an American dad from Brooklyn and a mum from the Dominican Republic. He was born in the US and grew up in the Dominican Republic. Why do you think your music has made Malavida the most popular winter club for Marbella locals? “It is not just my music, I´d say my music composes 80% of Malavida´s success. I work with a sensational public relations team, bartenders, managers, entertainers and security. Every single one of them provides something special and together we make it happen.” How did you get into the nightclub industry? “I came to Marbella some years ago to visit my brother and I loved it and decided to stay. I realised that Marbella was missing that Miami fun/sexy style club scene and I thought this is an area I have always been passionate about, why not give it a try? So I did! I started from the bottom, playing everywhere I could and step-by-step I started making a name for myself.” Did you have much help on the way? “I do have to thank Guillermo Yague (former Lux, Franks Corner and Malavida owner) who believed in me back in the day when I was the new guy in town. I also have to thank Juan Carlos, my current boss and owner of

Malavida, who has given me the opportunity to work with the most current Latino artist’s on the international charts.” What is Malavida´s ethos? “To transmit our passion for the entertainment business in a fun and elegant environment with the best R&B Latino music on the market in a true V.I.P. atmosphere.” What´s been your most impressive or biggest gig to date? “Malavida most definitely, as I said before, the opportunity of working with international artists is a dream come true, it’s like playing in the premier league! We are not only known and popular in Marbella and Andalucía but also in Madrid and Spain in general.” What dates are you playing at Malavida? “Every day that is open, I’m the resident DJ.” What was like to work with Osmani Garcia of The Voice last month? “Oh man!!! It was great; he is really cool and down to earth and even better live than what we all see on his video clips. My entertainment team and I were playing and dancing a lot of his tracks for about a month so everyone will be familiar with all of his tunes not just the famous Taxi (featuring Pitbull). Keep in mind that Malavida is mainly Latino R&B but about 4.30am I play more commercial music, Arabic &
French hip-hop and house tunes. People were dancing and singing like crazy to Osmani´s tracks at the event last month, the crowd and the vibe was just amazing.”
What´s everyone drinking? “Everything hahaha! Mostly Vodka like Belvedere and Grey Goose and lots of rum, Barcelo, Brugal, Legendario…”
We have seen quite a few artists throughout the winter, what can we expect this summer? “I feel bad not being able to tell you, but please follow me on Facebook DominikDJ Twitter @Djdominkik.27 Instagram @ Djdominkik.27 and I will be posting regular updates.”
How do you go about getting tickets? “All they have to do is go on Facebook or the Funky Buddha website and they have all the info they need, it’s very accessible to everyone.”
Any other plans whilst you´re here in Marbella? “I want to start producing my own tracks and also represent established Latino artists worldwide, so you will be hearing a lot from me! I have already worked with great Latino artists in the past such as Daddy Yanki, Paquito Guzman, El Gran Combo and Noches Amarfi to name a few and want to get back into managing.” Why is yours the party to go to? “You can feel my passion for music in the way people dance, they communicate through music and it’s beautiful and HOT at night in Malavida and Funky Buddha Beach in the daytime.” What´s everyone wearing? “We have a very professional security team that keep the attire on the lock down. Everyone dresses elegant but sexy, it’s perfect.”
What´s the best thing about Marbella in your opinion? “Apart from my son who was born here, the climate and people, I always say Marbella is ‘Miami European style’…” Any big plans/surprises this summer? “We have lots but I can’t tell you anything just yet until everything is confirmed. I can tell you that we are going to be doing something with Romeo Santos and DJ Javier Murillo and there are lots of exiting projects we are working on.” Favourite tune this summer? “I have got so many but two come to mind, Uptown Funk by Bruno mars and Eresmia by Romeo Santos.” Best thing about being in the industry? “The best thing is to see the crowd enjoy themselves.” Worst? “When the night ends…”

REGISTERING YOUR VEHICLE IN SPAIN. SPANISH LICENSE PLATES AND REGISTRATION DOCUMENT. Registering a non-Spanish vehicle in Spain is a complex and potentially costly procedure. However, you may be exempt from Spanish registration tax by getting Spanish number plates within one month of entering the country. But to do this, you need to become a resident. Linea Directa has been insuring expat drivers in Spain for over a decade and understands all the steps involved. Below we outline this process.
STEP 1
OBTAINING A CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY This is a statement by the car’s manufacturer that it conforms to EU regulations. You will need the car’s chassis number to complete this straightforward process online at www.eurococ. eu/en/certificate_of_conformity. The charges for this service will vary according to type of vehicle, make and country of 1st
registration.
STEP 2
CURRENT LOG BOOK The vehicle’s original log book showing your name as the owner, the vehicles age and a valid UK address. You will also need the bill of sale for the car.
STEP 3
RESIDENCY IN SPAIN The Spanish residency certificate (Certificado de Empadronamiento) is your official proof of residency in Spain. Your local town hall can provide you with this document. You will need to take your passport and proof of Spanish address (rental contract, contract to purchase or property deeds).
STEP 4
OBTAINING A SPANISH MOT CERTIFICATE All vehicles over 4 years old must be roadworthy and clearly

Raised in Baranquilla, North Columbia, Shakira began performing at school. for a woman who has also had two children and a long-term relationship with a professional footballer. This isn’t the first time Shakira has juggled her multitude of talents. Throughout her career, she has not only been a singer, but also a songwriter, record producer, choreographer and model. Her allround personality means that she has not only written the majority of her songs but also created the dances in many of her music videos, including the video for the hit single Waka Waka which had over 813 million views and became the 9th most watched video on You Tube ever. In 1997 Shakira made the decision to move herself and her family to Miami where she began to learn English. Shakira soon became the highest selling Columbian artist of all time, and her records such as Hips Don’t Lie began to top the charts gaining her several number ones. M
y husband loves skiing, I prefer lying on the beach. Cue arguments about how we are going to spend a well deserved week’s holiday away in April. Well now we´ve discovered the best of both worlds: Sierra Nevada. Only two hours away from Marbella in Granada, and one of the only resorts in the world where you can ski in the morning and sun yourself on the beach in the afternoon. And it’s not just any old beach; you need to see beautiful white sandy beaches of the Costa Tropical, with Salobreña and Almuñecar beaches being the most highly recommended. There´s no better time to do it than April or even the first few weeks in May, when the sun is at its hottest while the snow is still in abundance in Europe´s most southerly ski resort. Plus, it can take less than an hour to reach the beach from the Sierra Nevada ski resort. If you wanted to, it would be possible to ski down the mountain and walk to the beach! It would be a two-hour walk with skis, which is maybe not too enticing. But it is in a sense, possible to “ski to the beach” here in Southern Spain!
Bringing actual meaning to the common phrase, “Freezing your tits off!”, 400 university students will gather on the slopes of Sierra Nevada on the 25th of April this year to take part in the third annual ‘Bikini Descent’ or ‘Bajada en Bañador’. The event, organised by the University of Granada, occurs every last weekend in April to celebrate the end of the ski season in Sierra Nevada. The 2015 event is expected to be registered in the Guinness Book of Records next year. The 2014 ‘Bikini Descent’ broke the mark of the first edition with 300 attendees last year. At the inaugural event in 2013, 100 students took part. The event takes place in the area known as Borreguiles in Sierra Nevada. Numerous media also attends to cover the event that is fast becoming a classic spring party and spectacle in the area. The initiative was created after initial events in both Canada and Siberia, where several hundred skiers gathered, but this was not recorded before a notary. On the slopes of Sierra Nevada there were many more people skiing in a bikini or swimsuit and shorts for men, and this has actually been counted officially, pending the Guinness Book of Records entry. Interestingly, many of the attendees last year joined in spontaneously, having never attended the university nor having been aware of the actual event before their skiing trip. The manager of Granada 2015, Ignacio Pipó, said, “Our intention with this type of event is to promote both Granada and Sierra Nevada 2015, which are currently the only Spanish ski stations open and offers a unique product in spring. This university initiative is a huge success and has achieved a great media impact across the country and even outside it.” Not doing anything on the 25th of April? Fancy getting yourself recorded in the Guinness Book of Records? Then head down to Borreguiles in Sierra Nevada… with your bikini in tow.

FEATURES SIERRA NEVADA Sierra Nevada sits at 2,100m above sea level, with the highest point of the ski area at 3,300m, ensuring good snow cover. The mountainous range also happens to be a skier´s paradise with 105km of slopes and over 120 runs to explore. There is terrain to suit all levels of skiers: there are 40 blue runs, nine black, 50 red and 16 green. In addition, there are crosscountry ski trails and snow-shoeing paths. The name Sierra Nevada itself means “snowy range” in Spanish and between the months of November and May, the peaks are covered in fine snow, making it a magnet for all skiers. People also come up from the coast to escape the heat of local towns, and to take advantage of some of the fabulous facilities the resorts here have to offer. There are also plenty of restaurants, bars, ski hire shops and more or less everything and anything you could need for a bit of quality skiing in Spain. Plus, the surrounding snow-capped landscape and endless views on a clear day are truly breathtaking.

Temperatures reach up to 13 degrees Celsius in the Sierra Nevada in April while on the Costa Tropical´s stunning beaches you can be bask in the sun with temperatures reaching in excess of 30 degrees. Just be sure to apply sunscreen for your ski and beach trips, and wear sunglasses as opposed to ski goggles to avoid unsightly white tan lines on your face!
WHERE TO STAY It´s always better to stay in the resort of Sierra Nevada and then enjoy the skiing facilities early on in the morning before heading down to the beach for the splendid afternoon weather. With quality hotel and
COSTA TROPICAL So after a hard morning on the ‘pistes’ you can jump in your car and drive down the mountain to the glorious Costa Tropical. The closest beach town to Granada is Motril, although Salobreña and Almuñecar are close by and have better beaches. If you fancy driving a little further you can hit the coast at La Herridora or Nerja, as there is a lot more to do in these bigger resort towns that cater well for families.

lodge accommodation available to suit all ages you are spoilt for choice. Marbella Rocks recommends the Melia Hotel if you are interested in staying in the heart of the resort as there is literally only a 100-metre walk from the ski lifts. The Yhi Wellness Spa in the hotel also has fantastic facilities and there is a full English buffet breakfast. There is also surprisingly quite a bit for the kids to do if you want to make it a family trip to Sierra Nevada. The best activities can be found at the Mirlo Blanco recreation zone. Children´s activities include fun ski bikes and sliding down the more shallow slopes on inner tubes. There is also ice skating and roller-sledding, which is a bit like a toboggan, but
much slower and safer! The crèche and nearby Snow Garden are well-run establishments with fully trained staff to look after children up to six years old if you prefer to have fun on the ‘pistes’ and collect your little ones before your afternoon on the beach.
BEST OF BOTH WORLDS Another good way to enjoy your ski to snow experience is to book half the trip in the Sierra Nevada and then enjoy the last leg of your trip on a beach resort or hotel in the Costa Tropical. You can relax and feel truly revived on the beach section of your holiday and go home with a tan whilst having also enjoyed a holiday steeped in activity.

THE GENEVA
MOTOR SHOW 2015
T
he dust has just started to settle at the Palexpo in Geneva, home of the annual Geneva Motor Show. This year the 85th, was quite a special one, with plenty of surprises from the automotive world. The Geneva Motor Show, held from the 5th-15th of March, is seen by manufacturers as the largest car show in Europe, if not the world, so manufacturers frequently use it as a platform to launch new cars. This year was no different with dozens of worldwide premieres, far too many to mention them all. As it is my area of expertise I am going to focus on the Supercars, from Ford’s new GT to Koenigsegg’s show stopper the Regera. Here´s my pick of Geneva´s highlights.
Audi R8 The eagerly anticipated new R8 was a bit of an anticlimax. The car, which will no doubt sell very well, just isn’t different enough for us. It is 145lbs less than the current model and features a 5.2 V10 601hp engine which it shares with its Italian brother, the Lamborghini
36 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 09
FEATURES
Huracan. The R8 also features a new 7 speed, S Tronic Dual clutch. To begin with Audi will only offer the V10 option, with the V8 to follow along with a fully electric E-tron version and potentially a hybrid to follow which could be very interesting.
Ferrari 488 GTB The 488 is Ferrari’s mid-cycle 458 update. While the exterior changes are subtle and mainly in the aero department, the engineers have added a number of innovative solutions, including the rear spoiler as well as the motorsport-derived underbody with vortex generators. Downforce is now up to 716 pounds at 155 mph. The main change is under the bonnet where Ferrari introduces a controversial new 3.9L twin turbocharged V8 with a very sophisticated dynamic vehicle control system allowing the pilot to control the engine’s performance. Peak output on the car is 660hp with a 0-100 kmph time of just 3.0 seconds.
Lamborghini Aventador SV The Lamborghini Aventador has been with us for 51 years now and the 50th anniversary special which came out last year has been followed up by the long anticipated sequel to the Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce. The Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce, known as the SV. The Murcielago SV was limited to only 350 examples and continues to appreciate in value, with very few ever actually hitting the market. Lamborghini haven’t mentioned anything about low volume at the moment, but it is thought it will be limited run. However, the SV convertible has already been spotted, which could be very interesting indeed. The LP750-4 SuperVeloce as the name suggests has 750hp and is 4 wheel drive, the weight has been reduced by around 50kg on the normal Aventador, which decreases the 0-100kmph time to just 2.8 seconds. The Murcielago SV was always a favourite of mine as is the Aventador, so I am really looking forward to driving this monster, which is due to land with customers later this spring.
Bentley While Bentley showed a new facelifted version of their Continental GT variants, the true show stopper was the EXP10 Speed 6 concept car. Bentley has hinted

recently that they wanted to add a fifth model to their existing range, Continental, Mulsanne, Flying Spur and soon to arrive SUV named the Bentayga (covered in last month´s issue). The EXP10 Speed concept car would be the perfect addition to their growing line-up, the two seater sports car has all the interior opulence expected from Bentley with the addition of exterior beauty. Several customers that I spoke to at the show mentioned their desire for Bentley to build it.
Koenigsegg Koenigsegg is a name synonymous with hypercars. For the last decade Christian Koenigsegg has been blurring the lines of the Supercar world. This year at Geneva, he took his company one step further. In the early days of Koenigsegg, the CC8 and CCX cars were always impressive, with an impressive power to weight ratio, they crowned that last year with the Koenigsegg One:1 based on an Agera the One:1 had a power to weight ratio of just that, 1:1. The new car the Regera from the Swedish meaning ‘’to reign’’ is something quite different. While the side profile is still very much Koenigsegg with the Zagato-esque bubble roof, the front and particularly the rear are very different, resembling more of a UFO than a car. The figures are also mind blowing, but require explanation! The total output of the car is estimated by Koenigsegg to be around 1800hp, and this is because the car features 4 power sources. The incredible thing about the Regera is it complexity, the car features a 5L V8 engine which produces 1100 bhp and 3, yes that’s right 3, electric motors producing 700bhp one at the crank and one at each rear wheel. The Regera is rear wheel drive only so the 0-100 is limited by traction, but it still achieves it in 2.7 seconds, the really impressive thing is that because the car has almost constant torque it will reach 300km/h in just 12 seconds, it will then top out at 400kmph, which it will reach in less than 20 seconds. Comparatively, the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport, which finished production this month, will take 22.2 seconds to reach 300km/h and a bit longer to do 400kmph. The Regera’s impressive figures don’t stop there, the media and clients around the Koenigsegg stand were forgiven for the confused looks on their faces, as the
38 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 09
Koenigsegg only has one gear with a huge gear ratio, I will leave this wizardry to be explained by someone else. The Regera is expected to cost just shy of $1.9M USD that’s about €1.75M at the moment.
Elsewhere Elsewhere in the Supercar category there was a focus on track use. Mclaren unveiled their track- focused 675LT (longtail) a 666hp powered 650S, which is a very limited run and now sold out, so if you want one you will have to look to the used car market. The Mclaren stand also featured the impressive McLaren P1 GTR which, dressed in Harrods livery harking back to the F1 GTR, is track use only. Porsche showcased their new 991 GT3RS an incredible car, the harder, rawer follow on to the 991 GT3. The GT3 RS will by the time you read this already be sold out, with preference going to Porsche’s 918 clients. I deposited for three customers over a year ago, two of which have been invited to order and one who disappointingly didn’t make the grade. Porsche also showed their new Cayman GT4 a car really making waves in the car world as a mini 911 GT3 with 375bhp and daily drivability. Ford also decided to join the supercar brigade bringing back the GT with their new 600hp v6 eco boost supercar.

ENERGY FOR LIFE GALA DINNER & MEDICAL SYMPOSIUM
M
itochondrial Disease (Mito) has the capacity to cut short the lives of those afflicted with it. To lose a child is the nightmare of every parent and sadly, Mito has claimed too many young lives primarily because to date so little is known about it and it has generally fallen out of the mainstream of medical research. The mitochondria are primarily responsible for energy creation in our body. They convert food into energy. Failure to create enough energy can result in multi-systemic failure. Without enough energy, it is hard to live in the world as we know it today. Mito can strike at any age infant or adult alike, and is degenerative. Eighty percent of infants born with Mito die before their twentieth birthday, and many don’t make it past their fifth birthday. It is often found to affect multiple family members. Mito is hard to diagnose and there are very few medical specialists around. Given this, Service in Satchidananda (SIS) has joined forces with AEPMI (Association for Mito Patients in Spain) and the Fundación Ana Carolina Diez Mahou to both build awareness and raise funds for these patients. Key events will take place on the 23rd and 24th April.
Medical Symposium Thursday 23rd April (16:15 20:45) A Medical Symposium (in Spanish) will be held at the Colegio de Médicos Málaga. This halfday course has been awarded accreditation by ACSA and will be run by leading experts in the field. The course is aimed at doctors and therapists. The main goal is to help doctors/therapists to recognise, understand, diagnose and treat

these patients. For more information, please visit AEPMI.org Events. Inscription is free.
Energy for Life Charity Dinner (24th April, Alcaidesa Golf, 20:00) SIS (sisproject.org) have organised a Charity Gala Dinner to raise funds and awareness for Mito research. It promises to be an entertaining night to remember. The tickets include predinner drinks, a three- course sitdown meal and entertainment, including performances by Dance Works and an auction with some fantastic prizes. Tickets are priced at 65, 85 euros and 100 euros. Donations can be made at sisproject. org. Invited guest speakers include leading figures Chuck Mohan, Director of the United Mitochondrial Foundation, US (UMDF.org), the largest patient organisation in the world, and Dr Julio Montoya,
Director of the Scientific Committee, AEPMI and expert in the genetics of Mitochondrial DNA. The funds raised will go to building a Clinical Registry for Mitochondrial Disease Patients in Spain. AEPMI is working with key Medical Centres to implement this project. The Registry will form the basis to:
Enable us to undertake Key Research Projects on a National and Global Level Work to bring potential drugs in final stages of clinical trials to patients here, albeit on a Compassionate Use basis or as part of a clinical Trial Please help us to build awareness. Mito may be a rare disease but it is estimated that it will affect as many as 14000 in the future. This is a staggering number. For more information about the events, please contact Shani at onyommail@gmail.com or at 68779956.

SO THIS MONTH‘S CLUB OF THE MONTH IS… EL PARAISO GOLF CLUB THE PARTICULARS Designed in 1973 by Gary Player, a man often regarded as one of the greatest golf players in history, El Paraiso is definitely one of the most established courses on the Costa del Sol. Beautiful sights of the La Concha Mountain and glorious sea views surround the course. Out of the 32 reviews on Tripadvisor, 10 gave the course excellent, and 15 were very good, suffice to say this is definitely one to watch, or play! For over twenty years it has been something of a Mecca for golf lovers. And whether you’re a professional or a newbie, the course offers something for all ages and abilities.
BEST POINTS The setting is incomparable, the beautiful scenery provides an enjoyable test, which is also equally fair, challenging and rewarding for golfers of all abilities. The fairways back on to meandering streams, which provide a beautifully tranquil ambience while you play. The course is extremely well looked after and the clubhouse serves a variety of lovely foods.

GLOBAL GOLF NEWS WOODS ‘HOPEFUL’ FOR MASTERS RETURN.
T
iger Woods has decided to take an indefinite break from golf this year after suffering from a back injury. He has made it clear that his performances last year were “unacceptable for play”. Woods stated that he would not return to the game until he was “able to play at the highest level”. This means that he will not be playing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, held in Orlando, Florida, which he has previously won eight times in his career. In a statement on Woods’ official website he comments, “I spoke to Arnold today and told him that I will not play in his tournament this year. I’m sorry I won’t be in Orlando next week, but I know it will be a really successful event. I hope to be ready for the Masters, and I will continue to work hard preparing for Augusta.” The Masters, which Woods has won four times, begins on April 9th.
WORST POINTS Although the course has a fantastically chilled ambience, some better players may not find it challenging. There are few holes, which have a significant slope and the course is often pretty busy so you may get stuck behind a few slow players.
FRIENDLY Very. The staff were lovely, and the breakfast, which was served from 8am, for a nice, early T-off, was superb.
TRICKY HOLES Hole two is definitely more challenging with its par 4. Large bunkers, which are best avoided, surround the green that slopes severely from back to front. This one takes a couple of shots, especially for a more novice player.
CLUB RULES The Ball is out of bounds beyond any fence, wall or hedge bounding the course and areas delineated by white stakes. ROCKS RATING:

hat is fashion?” It’s not that easy to give a simple answer to this question, is it? Fashion can be an art, a religion, a job, a peek into the personality. It’s playfulness. It’s an escape or a disguise. It is definitely a feast for the eyes. But ultimately, fashion is an individual statement and artistic expression of what is inside. I believe that fashion has the ability to transform you into a new personality, a different person… you can be whoever you want to be, if you dress for it. A French fashion designer once said, “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be.” It is true whether you like it or not. Fashion isn’t defined solely by our clothing choices, but is also conveyed through the way we carry ourselves, our personalities and our views of the world. Fashion is a huge statement for each of us. It defines what we represent and how we want people to perceive us. A person uses clothes to express their confidence. Trends help people brainstorm different ways to show off their style. A person’s style gives you a piece of their personality because its their own way to artistically define themselves and the clothes are the way a person paints their own canvas. At its most fundamental (and straight from the dictionary), fashion is simply the prevailing style or custom, as in dress or behaviour. In my eyes, fashion is not about the price of the shirt or the brand of a dress. It’s how you wear it and it expresses who you are. I love clothes, I usually dress like I just stepped out a ‘boho’ magazine, and that’s because I love to dress up and it expresses who I am. I always tend to look my best even on my bad days. We are all different. Some people prefer to wear gym clothes all week and some prefer to dress like they are going to run into their ex there is no right or wrong it’s all depends how creative you are. So, ultimately who decides what’s fashionable and what isn’t? What’s in or what’s out?
Fashion Designers The iconic fashion houses: Chanel, LV, Elie Saab and few more are referred to as ‘haute couture’. These designers lead the way in creating trend-setting fashion. While some of their designs are outrageous and completely unrealistic, when it comes to everyday wear, generally the theme is adapted into versions suitable for wearing.
What is ‘Haute Couture’? The term ‘haute couture’ is protected by law, according to the ‘Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture’ based in Paris, France. The ‘haute couture’ rules are simple: to be designated as ‘haute couture’ a minimum of fifteen people must be employed at the workshops and must present to the press in Paris each season (spring/summer and autumn/winter) a
FASHION
collection of at least thirty-five runs consisting of models for daytime wear and evening wear. The term ‘haute couture’ is French. Haute means ‘high’ or ‘elegant’. Couture literally means ‘sewing’, but has come to indicate the business of designing, creating, and selling custom-made, high fashion women’s clothes. However the term ‘haute couture’ has been misused by successive ready-to-wear brands and high street labels since the late 1980s so that its true meaning has become blurred with that of ‘prêt-à-porter’ in the public perception. The French term for ready-towear (not custom fitted) fashion is ‘prêt-à-porter’. Every ‘haute couture’ house also markets ‘prêt-à-porter’ collections, which typically deliver a higher return on investment than their custom clothing. In fact, much of the ‘haute couture’ displayed at fashion shows today is rarely sold; it is created to enhance the good name of the house. Falling revenues have forced a few couture houses to abandon their less profitable couture division and concentrate solely on the less prestigious ‘prêt-à-porter’. As a result, these houses are no longer considered ‘haute couture’.
Glittering Names The syndicate has about 18
members, including such fashion giants as Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Cardin. The fashion houses generate more than $1 billion in annual sales and employ close to 5,000 people, including 2,200 seamstresses. Workers often specialise in one area, such as feathers, fabric, buttons, shoes and so on. Before World War II, over 35 000 people worked at such couture houses.
Staggering Prices Made from scratch for each customer, ‘haute couture’ clothing typically requires three fittings. It usually takes from 100 to 400 hours to make one dress, costing from $26,000 to over $100,000. A tailored suit starts at $16,000, an evening gown at $60,000.
A Small Market Today only 2 000 women in the world buy couture clothes; 60% are American. Only 200 are regular customers. Often, designers will loan clothes to movie stars or other public figures for publicity. During fashion’s ‘golden age’, after World War II, some 15 000 women wore couture. Socialites such as the Duchess of Windsor, Babe Paley, and Gloria Guiness would order whole collections at a time.

FASHION Despite the small market, designers maintain ‘haute couture’ operations partly because the prestige helps sell other products, such as perfume, cosmetics, and their ready-to-wear lines available in store.
Media Fashion trends are often sparked by characters on popular television shows and movies as well as adopted from magazine pages. Shows such as ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ introduced us to new, cutting-edge designs. While you might not be caught dead wearing a Carrie Bradshaw original, you might take ideas inspired from her look and piece together your own creation.
Social media In the last ten years, fashion has become more of a universal industry providing clothes to international customers with backgrounds. Instantaneously, the drastic change in communication lets users participate, follow and discuss any trend and fashion news and purchase fashion items easily online. No matter how big or small a brand is, they are able to communicate with buyers and to a larger scaled audience. Top brands like Burberry, Urban Outfitters, and Louis Vuitton are promoting exclusive clothing and have become more accessible to the general public via social networking. Within the last decade, the fashion industry has grown globally because of the presence of social media.
Celebrities Celebrities shape and influence fashion trends. Famous people have always shaped fashion trends throughout history and this is still true today. Often, what is considered hip or popular is usually so because famous people or celebrities have been seen wearing these things. So, celebrities not only influence fashion. I would say that they create fashion too. Young girls are trying to figure out their place in the world. They are learning to come to terms with their newly found sexuality, and their roles in society. They are looking for direction on how to act, how to dress; they are looking for role models. Directions and role
50 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 09
FASHION
models can be found in magazines. Teenage girls often look towards magazines to figure out how they should dress, in particular, how they should incorporate sexuality into their clothing, and to what extent. Therefore, the celebrities featured in magazines can be especially influential for young girls and young women. Celebrities should be aware of this fact, that how they dress can have a big influence on young girls and women. They should know that this admiration and fame comes with a responsibility to teach young women to love themselves and their bodies, and to respect themselves and other women. Celebrities should try and teach girls to dress in ways that are attractive, but does not make them look like a sexual object or a ‘slut’. Miley Cyrus, you have been warned!
Musicians Musicians have always been very influential when it comes to dictating fashion. Rock ‘n’ roll is fashion. Elvis is an iconic example. In the 1950s, everyone wanted to dress like Elvis. What about the heavy metal hair bands so popular in the 1980s? Axl
Rose reinvented the head bandana while Poison, Motley Crue and Bon Jovi set the pace for big, rocker hair. Most musicians dress based on their chosen genre of music. We can easily distinguish them through their own styles. Each style separates them from other musicians, and most people who are music lovers are greatly influenced by their favorite hit makers. In every era, there’s always a popular group which influences a certain crowd’s style and music preference. Nowadays, people wear streetwise clothes and they often prefer alternative clothing or a simplified subculture fashion. Some are ‘plain Janes’ while others can be overdressed. When music fashionistas recreate the latest trend, designers and some fashion brands can be really creative when it comes to launching a whole collection that serves as a tribute. You can easily see young people strutting their stuff on the street wearing these encapsulated musicians’ trends.
My Takeout Just because you don’t know if a Prada bag is fall 2007 or spring 2008
doesn’t matter -unless you work in the fashion industry, of course. All that matters is that you like it and it’s an expression of you. That is fashion. Fashion is not the trend of the society it’s the trend of a person. In my perspective, fashion should not control you but instead you should command fashion. “As change is inevitable, change in fashion is also inevitable”.

It is all about diversity, ethnicity and fine tuning, What I believe is that every woman should be creating her own identity and modeling herself! Q: WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE COCKTAIL COLLECTION? It’s all about helping women stand out and make an impact when they walk into a room. Q: WHAT´S YOUR FAVOURITE ITEM IN YOUR COLLECTION? My favourite item is called,YCLASS. I´ve done it in pink, white and metallic blue. It gives a woman sophistication and has a really gorgeous, flattering A line cut. It´s one piece that fits multiple women no matter of their shape or size. I´d compare it to Diana Von Furstenberg´s wrap dress, just not as famous yet! It has the same simplistic design and a high collar that accents a woman´s neckline and bustline. Q: WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE RESORT COLLECTION? The Yamaia Resort Collection is a way of living. It´s all about celebrating a woman´s body. We
FASHION come in all different shapes, sizes and colours and there´s something for everyone in this collection. Q: YOU MUST BE A WALKING BILLBOARD FOR YOUR COLLECTIONS, DO YOU GET STOPPED IN THE STREET A LOT BEING ASKED, “WHERE DID YOU BUY THAT?” Haha, yes I do, all the time! I’ve learned to embrace it. Q: AS WELL AS YOUR OWN BRAND, WHAT NEW, UP AND COMING DESIGNER COLLECTIONS DO YOU HAVE IN STORE FOR US THIS SUMMER? I’ll be announcing some designs in the coming months.
FASHIONGYYRL & YLUXX Q: FIRSTLY (HAVE GOTTA SAY IT) LOVE THE NAME FASHIONGYYRL. SO SMART AND SEXY. CAN YOU TELL OUR READERS WHY YOU SET UP FASHIONGYYRL? First, off I spell Fashiongyyrl this way because I’m unique and I believe all women have a unique quality about them. I wanted to impact people’s lives and help women to create their own identity. THE Fashiongyyrl platform is where we can all come together and share what we know, from trends, fashion and lifestyle. Fashiongyyrl has a classy type of flow and women can walk away looking empowered, cute and confident in who they are. It´s a great feeling when a woman can make a statement with their clothes, from the inside to the outside. The dress is merely an accessory. Q: CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU OFFER AT YOUR FASHIONGYRL EVENTS AND PARTIES? It´s not just to create a look, it´s about creating your own identity, so a woman knows who she is. You can wear a dress that can cost ¤10,000, but if you don´t know how to own the dress, it won´t look any good. We offer insight to a variety of ways to help ladies improve their etiquette. Q: YOU ALSO OFFER HEN PARTIES, IS THIS A GOOD MARKET FOR YOU HERE IN MARBELLA? WHAT ADDITIONAL TOUCHES DO YOU OFFER?
This is the first time my hen parties have been written about! I used to live in London and Manchester and I know they love to come to Marbella to party. Instead of them coming to my house which I probably would do, the Yamaia Showroom gives them a place to come to for their hen parties, give them some trendy buffers so they can look great while they´re here in Marbella. Bring all the gyyrls down and add some new ones! Let’s not just get drunk and fall off our heels… let ME show you how to really enjoy yourself, stay classy (in those heels) while making you look good at the same time. Q: BY SETTING UP FASHIONGYYRL, THAT ALSO SERVERS AS A WOMEN´S NETWORK IN FASHION, BEAUTY, LIFESTYLE AND CAREERS IN MARBELLA, IT MUST FEEL GOOD TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK TO ALL THESE WOMEN IN THE COMMUNITY. Yes. First and foremost I can only be who I am and my career has been shaped by what I have learnt by the industry and dealing with rejection. Once upon a time you never saw a lot of black, mulatto or brown women on the covers of magazine, 20 years ago, yes I said it and and I’m not ashamed to say it... I had to learn to do a lot of things for myself. Dealing with a lot of criticism and rejection was the very thing that strengthened me and opened my eyes about the world, women and fashion. I would rather be an example of what I am doing, as it´s not just about being cute. It´s about every area of your life, your strengths and weakness, to acknowledge them gives you the true power which makes you beautiful and that’s what I can teach people. I want to impact people´s lives. All of the hair, make-up and clothes are accessories.
Q: HOW MANY FASHIONGYYRLS ARE CURRENTLY IN YOUR NETWORK IN MARBELLA? Roughly about 1,200. Q: HOW DO WE SIGN UP? Easy! Go to our website (www. yamaiaonline.com) or visit the showroom and speak to JQ Britt, who is the content provider and administrator of Fashiongyyrl for Yamaia Showroom. Q: WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT? A woman that has an open mind, who’s willing to create a new space. She has to be open and willing to receive. I can´t help anyone that really doesn´t want help, or believes they have it all. Q: HAS THERE BEEN ONE PARTICULAR CLIENT YOU HAVE YOU HELPED THE MOST AND WHY? Yes, there have been many. But the greatest one is myself. I am a product of myself! Q: WHAT ARE YOUR GREATEST COMPLIMENTS BY ATTENDEES? That I am animated, hilarious and I know my shit! I’ll keep it very REAL

It´s simply for the consumer, We cover fashion, accessories, hair and make up, homes and interior designs. It´s all about the products. Q: WHAT´S YOUR VISION FOR FASHION DESIGN HERE IN MARBELLA? WHAT´S MARBELLA LACKING AND WHAT ARE YOU BRINGING? One answer for your two-part question, the market needs to be elevated to the level of the fashion industry globally, I and my colleagues, partners and magazines such as yourself, are the ones that have to stand up and help make it happen. I can reveal details shortly. Watch this space!
MODELLING & BACKGROUND Q: WHERE WERE YOU FIRST SPOTTED AND BY WHO? I was spotted in Hawaii by a Philippino designer when I was 15. I went onto model for Hawaii Tropic before doing catwalk and designer fashion. Q: WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNT THROUGH YOUR MODELLING CAREER? It helped me learn that no one else is going to walk you through the door. You have to learn to help yourself. Excuse my language but you really have to bust your ass to make a name for yourself!! Q: YOU WALKED FOR MANY TOP DESIGNER BRANDS SUCH AS VERSACE, CAN YOU TELL OUR READERS ABOUT MAKING IT TO
58 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 09
THE TOP? I have walked for a lot of freaking excellent designers all around the world! Everything was a fight and a battle. Everyone was starting out, models, designers and photographers and we all had to establish ourselves. I was one of the ones that made it, but it was hard and I had to work hard to get where I am now. Q: AFTER YOUR CATWALK MODELLING CAREER HOW DID YOU END UP GOING INTO FASHION DESIGNING? Creating your own identity is about self-knowledge and I have always been surrounded by clothes and patterns so it was an easy transition for me. My mother was also a seamstress so I was always able to create my own style with her. Even some of my girlfriends were like “What the hell are you wearing?” but I know my style and know what works for me. And once I wore it out in school, events and clubs then they would change their minds and start following my flow. I was an early trendsetter. Q: WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION IN THE FASHION WORLD? It´s not about the designers, I really believe it’s all about the women. When I see a woman walking into a room I don´t see the dress first I see the woman wearing the dress. Q: WHO HAS INSPIRED YOU ELSEWHERE? My mother. She is a great designer
and made some amazing clothes. She once even designed a dress from a grocery bag! She has fabulous style. Q: WHO ARE YOUR STYLE ICONS? Diana Ross, Jacqui Onassis, Audrey Hepburn, Josephine Baker. These women were doing the damn thing! They own it! Q: TELL OUR READERS SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOU. What you see is what you get! Even at home with a hoodie, sneakers and baseball cap, I own it and present it with flavour. Some of my favorite clothes are mens’ apparel, keep watching our Fashionboii is always around. Q: YOU HAVE LIVED AN INTERNATIONAL JET SETTING LIFESTYLE. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO LIVE IN MARBELLA OF ALL THE OTHER EXOTIC LOCATIONS YOU COULD HAVE RESIDED? I had lived in London and Milan previously and it was a natural step to come to Marbella as I thought is would be great centre for my travelling needs and my daughter and it reminds me of Hawaii. STATEMENT LIPS
M
ost people who have dived into the lipstick jungle have more or less encountered problems! Primarily it’s the task of finding those shades that suit you perfectly. You’ve probably ended up thinking, “red doesn’t look good on me” and “pink is just not my thing.” Well let me break it to you, everyone dresses in any colour, all that matters is getting the right kind of shade for you. Besides, the way to work the statement lips into a make-up look are endless, and as a beauty trend for summer the bright pink and red lips are timeless. But applying it is easier than making it stay on throughout the day, especially during hot summer seasons… and when enjoying those deliciously refreshing cocktails by the pool. Here’s my big round up on tips for the lips:
PREP YOUR CANVAS MAKE-UP ARTIST & HAIRSTYLIST NICHOLIE REHNLUND HAS BUILT UP AN INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION AS A BEAUTY INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL WITH ASSIGNMENTS IN TV, FASHION, COMMERCIALS, PRINT, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT. NICHOLIE CURRENTLY WORKS AND RESIDES IN PUERTO BANÚS AS THE MAKEUP PRINCIPAL TUTOR AT MARBELLA EVENT ACADEMY SECOND YEAR IN A ROW ALONGSIDE FREELANCING. CREDITS INCLUDE: BURBERRY, WALKING DEAD, MEN IN TREES ACTOR JULIE MCNIVEN, LONDON FASHION WEEK, HARPER’S BAZAAR UK, NICKI MINAJ ‘TURN ME ON’ MUSIC VIDEO, ETC. “AS A STYLIST I PRIDE MYSELF WITH A GREAT CREATIVE IMAGINATION AND A STRONG VISUAL SENSE WITH AN EYE FOR DETAILS. I LOVE BEING ABLE TO INSPIRE AND ENCOURAGE PEOPLE, TO SHARE MY PASSION AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE ON BEAUTY, FASHION AND WELLNESS” 80 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 09
Any lip colour, whether that is lipstick, gloss or liner, will adhere better to a smooth surface, so start by buffing your lips with a warm wash cloth, toothbrush or with a lip balm made with exfoliating granules. You can also combine sugar with honey and rub it on your lips to smooth them. After exfoliating, rinse off, apply lip balm, wait for 1-2 minutes and finish by administering a thin layer of foundation or lip primer (NYX) to prepare your lips for lipstick application.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT FORMULA Selecting the right formula can have a big impact on your lipstick’s staying power. In general, matte lipsticks stay on longer than glossy or creamy formulas. Lip stains, which come in liquid form in a tube with a sponge applicator, also tend to stay on longer because they don’t contain the waxes normally found in hydrating lipsticks. So, to summarise, there’s more efficacy to long wearing ingredients.
HOW TO FIND YOUR SHADES Focus on shades similar to your skin’s undertone when choosing lipstick. Have in mind that it should also look good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no make-up. A quick way to determine your skin’s undertone is to look at the veins on your wrist. If they are blue, you’ve most likely got pink/cool undertones, meaning go for cooler lip shades. If your veins appear more green, you have a yellow/warm undertone, meaning aim for warmer shades. If they appear to be both blue and green, you are the lucky owner of a neutral skin tone (meaning equal pink and yellow tones), and you can wear any colour.
HAIR & BEAUTY LET ME SIMPLIFY SHADES THAT TYPICALLY SUIT: Fair skin: coral reds, cherry reds or dark reds with pink undertones. Avoid too light and shades with too much yellow undertone. Medium or olive: nude, pink, orange, cranberry and brick reds (fire engine red). Dark: reds, deep plums, berries, burgundy or brown tones.
“The most flattering for an everyday colour is to find one to two shades deeper than your natural lips.
COLOUR IT IN For durability, first line your lips with a liner that matches your lipstick colour or use a colourless/ skin toned liner which helps prevent bleeding but matches any lipstick color. Start by defining the cupid’s bow on the upper lip, and from there completing the edges of the outlines to the upper lip. Finish off by filling in the whole lips with the liner for an even colour all over that really lasts.
FILL IN YOUR LIPS WITH THE LIPSTICK: Applied straight from the tube results in a richer colour than a lip brush, but with a lip brush can be given strikingly even edges. Next, blot lips with a tissue. Apply another layer of lipstick and then blot again. Bright, dark shades tend to stay on longer than softer ones because they contain more pigment.
“If the lip pencil is chilled in the fridge for a few minutes before application, it glides on smoothly and the outlining of the lips is easier.”
Finish Up With a fluff brush, dust a thin coating of powder that is colourless (one that you also use for setting your base and blotting shiny/oily parts of the face). Even rice powder, or baby powder is fine. Brush away any excess powder. Wait a minute or two for the powder to absorb any excess moisture. This technique may mute your lip color a little but it will do wonders for the longevity of your lip look. If you really don’t want to lose any of the original lip colour, you can set the look with a blush/eyeshadow powder in a similar colour as your lipstick. Apply gloss if desirable.

the hot mama THIS MONTH OUR COLUMNIST, DANIEL BOARDMAN, ADVISES BUSY MUMS ON HOW TO LOOK CHIC (NOT FREAK) AT THE SCHOOL DROP-OFF.
N
ow that you’re a mum, you probably spend a lot less time on your hair than you did before your bundle of joy entered the world. Many young mums get into a rut of slicking their hair into a ponytail every day, as hassle-free hairstyles become especially important once you become a full-time mum. However, having a new baby doesn’t mean having to sacrifice style, just replace a high-maintenance do with a flattering, on-trend style that’s also speedy and easy.

Come on now, chop chop! A crazy amount of shedding followed by lots and lots of uncontrollable baby hair may mean the best option for you is to opt for a shorter style. Actress and mother of two, Jessica Alba recently chopped off her long strands, joining yummy mummies Kim Kardashian and Michelle Williams in proving that the bob is the most popular cut of 2015 so far. Alba’s killer new haircut is an A-line, texturised, sharp silhouette ending well above the shoulders and slightly layered to show off her gorgeous tortoiseshell highlights. I like to call this fresh and funky look the Baggy Bob and it’s a perfect style for mummies: the air-dry-friendly style only needs a spritz of Redken Fashion Waves 07 Sea Salt Spray (€16,88) to have awesomely tousled texture. It can also be worn straight and glossy or with a wave and it’s easy to tie back – what’s not to love?
HAIR & BEAUTY
Fashion Plaits If hair up works for you, try experimenting with different variations. Sometimes the simplest hairstyles are the most stunning. If you are looking for something more fashion forward, the array of braids on the spring runways had one thing in common - refreshing inventiveness. Braids are going NOWHERE people. Erdem sent models down the catwalks in long braids with wispy sections pulled out throughout for a lived-in look, while single cornrows were seen at Giamba. The celebs are also all over this trend. Love it or hate it, Iggy Azalea’s version of the milkmaid plait at the Grammys was certainly a style statement. For young mums, if you have a frisky child that loves pulling hair, then this look will be a lifesaver for you. Whichever version you opt for, it’s quick, easy and will get you through the day, even if you haven’t had the time to wash your hair. Simply work a little Redken Pillow Proof (€16,88) dry shampoo into the roots and you’re done.
Go with the Flow Boho is finally going out and curls are very much in. Windswept hair is trending (handy, that) while at Matthew Williamson models sported a bombshell 70s wave, Dries Van Noten’s cool girl hair featured dishevelled waves and 90s-esque centre partings and I adored the Woodstock waves at Marchesa.
A wavy hairstyle is carefree and hassle-free on your part, but looks chic and stylish to those around you. Using tongs or rollers used to be time-consuming until GHD launched their new range the GHD Curve (€179,00). My favourite is the Classic Wave Wand, which creates a ‘curly but not’ look - the undone curl. The Curve is mummyproof as it has an automated switch-off after 30 minutes - phew! A cool tip so you can control your hair styling technique without losing a finger and it comes with has a stand, so you don’t have to try and balance it on the corner of your bedside table to avoid burning the house down. The best thing about the Curve is your are done in ten minutes and you can mess it up with a little sea salt spray the next day for a dishevelled look. This is truly a fantastic tool and I never leave home without it.
Lighten Up Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE that is blonde and attended the Oscars was rocking platinum, ashy blonde hair. Clearly this is why Kim Kardashian followed suit. I personally love Scarlett Johansson’s look; her bold ash blonde streaks at the slicked-back crown didn’t undercut the edgy elegance of her contrasting side crop. I always suggest to my clients, who are opting for a statement colour such as this, to take the hair shorter like Kim K did which will help to keep it in good condition. Also use products which help repair the hair such as Kerastase Fibre Architecte (€36,20) which is a reconstructive serum that repairs damaged, split ends. A colour change is always a great way to modernise your look and make you feel like the yummy mummy you are, but one word of warning - don’t be surprised if your friends and family get whiplash from this head-turning blonde. Till next time. Daniel XOXO

Want to burn fat, get abs and stay lean all Summer? It’s simple, you just have to cycle! I don’t mean going Bradley Wiggins style and hopping on a bike or even spinning in the gym. Forget all that for now. In fact I’m not talking cardio very much at all. This month I will attempt to explain the art of carb cycling! Are you breathing a sigh of relief? I’m sure some of you have heard of this technique before but perhaps don’t understand the concept. I assure you there is no better approach to getting and KEEPING lean, and even if you have to read some bits twice, it’s worth it.
Stick with me! I emphasise the word ‘keeping’ because there are a hundred and one fad crash diets out there that will surely help you lose some weight initially but usually one of two things will happen:
FIRST SCENARIO “I did great in the first weeks and dropped the pounds off but now I have hit a brick wall, I’m even doing extra cardio and taking even more calories out from my already low calorie diet, but I just can’t shift that last bit off my belly/back!”
SECOND SCENARIO: “I was doing so well and lost loads of weight but now I am so busy my diet isn’t quite as good and now I’m piling on the pounds that I busted myself to shift!” Sound familiar? Yep thought so! There can be a number of different scientific factors that may cause any of the above but I’m not going to scare you off with the biometrics and boring statistics, but bottom line is: 1. You have crashed your metabolism and it’s now stopped responding because it’s main job is to KEEP YOU ALIVE. By reducing your carbs and calories to such a dangerously low level, your body goes into survival mode. It now feels it has to hang on to as much of the food energy it can for emergency, so it’s now started storing it as fat again. So you are back to square one, except now you are busting your guts with extra cardio and gym and are lacking the energy to train efficiently. 2. You tried to trick your body into losing weight fast and now that you have taken your foot off the gas, it’s now happily changing back to where IT wants to be and not where YOU want it to be. Never think you are smarter than your body, your body is the boss, not you. So we need to approach this in a different way and create an agreement and long-lasting mutual healthy relationship with our body, so it will return the favour. You will get on so well after this TRUST ME. Let me explain a little more…
HEALTH & FITNESS
The basic idea of a Carb Cycle Technique, like a regular diet is to reduce carbs and calories. But when we do this for a long period of time our metabolism has so little to process that it starts to slow down and doze off, so just before the metabolism is about to fall asleep and crash we recharge it and jolt it back into action and wake the bugger up! This allows us then to reduce our calories again but with a fast and alert AWAKE metabolism. Now we repeat this process over and over, hence it being referred to as a cycle. Now always remember that if the number of calories out (burnt) is more than the number of calories in (ingested) we will be in a calorie deficit and this will burn fat! It makes sense that it’s better to have an awake metabolism rather than one that is sleeping during this time!
CARB CYLCE CHART
We’re wading into more technical waters here but how much you want abs defines how much more you read, so feel free to leave us here and quit. As always there are loads of other awesome pages to read in this month’s issue! Right, so now we understand what carb cycling is and why we do it and we’ve got rid of a few of the quitters that were reading that can’t be bothered with the tiny bit of education needed to create a killer body, let’s find a balance between our low-calorie days and our highcalorie days, in the industry we call these a ‘re-feed’. There are many ways to set out our cycle depending on our desired results, how active we are and our current body weight. Remember we want to be in a ‘calorie deficit’ for the low days so the best plan is to find how much of each of the three main macro nutrients (macros) we need daily compared to our level of exercise to maintain muscle and shed the dreaded body fat.
PEET’S TIP:
CALORIES IN - CALORIES OUT = +/A + = WEIGHT GAIN A - =WEIGHT LOSS WITH THE ABOVE IN MIND LET’S IMAGINE OUR DAILY ACTIVITY HABITS. CARDIO IS GREAT FOR BURNING CALORIES BUT DON’T FORGET THAT WE BURN THEM LIFTING A COFFEE CUP OR CARRYING OUR SHOPPING! EVERY LITTLE HELPS SO PUT YOURSELF IN THIS MINDSET THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY. I WILL OFTEN TAKE THE STAIRS INSTEAD OF THE ESCALATOR OR LIFT, OR IF I WALK TO THE SHOP I WILL WALK AT A FAST PACE. I’M ALWAYS THINKING, “HOW CAN I BURN SOME ENERGY HERE?” ISSUE 09 | MARBELLAROCKS
85
HEALTH & FITNESS
So how much protein, carbohydrates and fats (macros) do we need per day? Let’s start with 40-40-20 split. So of our daily nutrition is: 40% proteins 40% good carbohydrates 20% good fats Generally we will keep to a range of consuming one gram of protein per pound of body weight to maintain muscle. Remember after some consistency we can decide if we need to reduce or increase our intake, so let’s start with this figure.
For example if you’re weighing in at 175lb (80kg) this translates (per day) as: 175g protein 175g carbs 40g fat Simple calculators for this can be found online. Now that we have our low-cal diet day targets figured out we can decide how much and when our ‘re-feeds’ should be. I would try three good consistent clean days, hitting the above macro targets then every fourth day up your carbohydrates by double as a starting point. 175g protein 350g carbs 40g fat Again I stress maintaining some consistency is key so that when we make some changes we can see the reaction. If you feel you’re gaining a little weight with your re-feed reduce the amount and vice versa: if you still feel flat you can up them.
PEET’S TIP:
GET A NOTE PAD OR EVEN USE THE NOTES APP ON YOUR PHONE AS I DO AND GET GOOGLING. MAKE SOME NOTES ON THE MACRO CONTENT OF OUR LIKELY FOODS, DRINKS AND SNACKS, ON THE STUFF YOU TEND TO HAVE REGULARLY IN YOUR DIET. ALSO LOOK AT TREATS AND CHEAT MEALS THAT YOU LIKE TO ENJOY. THIS HELPS ME FOR QUICK REFERENCE TO WHAT I’M EATING THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND A LITTLE CALCULATING SOMETIMES EVEN MEANS I CAN BE NAUGHTY ON LOW-CAL DAYS. TRACKING YOUR MACROS IS A SKILL THAT WILL MAKE YOUR DIETING A LOT MORE FRIENDLY AND MEANS YOU ARE ABLE TO EAT A WHOLE RANGE OF FOODS INSTEAD OF THE SAME MEALS EVERYDAY. WE JUST MAKE SURE OUR DAILY NUMBERS ADD UP AND WE’RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK TO ABSVILLE!

RESTAURANT REVIEW
LA RED 90 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 09
f you卒re after a relaxing day on the beach, trying the freshest and most sumptuous meat and seafood cooked to perfection, then look no further than La Red Restaurant. Perfectly positioned on the beachfront on Paseo Maritime in Marbella, La Red offers the most impressive (and possibly one of the most varied) menus Marbella Rocks reviewers have ever had the pleasure of tasting. With over 100 choices of food from salads to pasta, paellas, meat, fish and shellfish, there is something to suit every discerning tastebud. Our tasters went for a medley of starters, mains and platters. By far the best, were the king prawns cooked on the BBQ and mussels in garlic and white wine. The prawns were huge, rock-salted and so tasty. You can tell they had only been pulled from the sea a few hours previously. The mussels were fantastic too. A generous helping well worthy of the 造8.90 price tag, with just the right amount of garlic, not too overpowering. Elsewhere, the mixed paella was delicious. Consisting of king prawns, crayfish, dorado, squid, chicken, peppers, tomatoes and peas, it was a good consistency, not dry or too watery and still a lot of bite to the rice. There is also every type of meat available from chicken, pork, lamb and hamburgers that can be cooked on the BBQ if desired. There are six different steaks too, ranging from 造12 to 造21 depending on the cut, and then a choice of eight sauces to

accompany. La Red also does a great choice of salads, a perfect accompaniment to their bountiful meat and fish dishes. The La Red salad of lettuce, tomato, onion, tuna fish, eggs, asparagus, olives and beetroot comes highly recommended. There are also versions with avocado and roasted peppers. La Red is owned and run by Gustavo and Laura de Luca, the charming husband and wife team that also run the popular El Banco Restaurant in Nueva Andalucia. All the staff at La Red were both friendly and attentive, which made our meal there the most pleasurable and relaxed beachside dining experience. Top points for food and service so far! La Red also has the added bonus of having seating on the actual beach for guests that want to enjoy the stunning Mediterranean sea views and feel the sand between their toes. There is also a choice of eating on the promenade or in the restaurant itself if you want to get out of the summer sun. All beach and promenade seating have umbrellas nearby if guests prefer eating with some shade. So, with a huge menu of tantalising fresh local food of every variety, Marbella Rocks really recommends eating out here for lunch or dinner this summer. The La Red menu also has a nicely labeled ‘vegetarian corner’, a specially selected kids’ menu, and with a great wine and cocktail list, you can rest assured that every guest will be well and truly looked after at La Red.
La Red is located on Playa la Fontanilla, s/n, 29602 Marbella and is open from 9.30am to midnight everyday. To book a table ring 952 821 450.

art for
art’s sake // news and information from the local and global arts scene
WORDS BY: JO WARD
O
ver the past few years, Marbella has witnessed an influx of artists and art galleries that are giving the town a new identity and turning the industrial area into a cultural hotspot. Pharrell Williams for sale at Art Basel Hong Kong! Known for being a patron of the visual arts, hat wearing ‘Happy’ singer, rapper, producer and fashion designer Pharrell Williams is the model for 30 mini figures designed by the artist ‘Mr.’ The mini Pharrells were up for sale for the princely sum of $20,000 each! Wearing his signature ‘Grammy hat’ the figures are modelled on Williams’ voyeuristic avatar from the ‘It Girl’ music video, also by ‘Mr.’ and could be found standing on a vitrine outside Galerie Perrotin’s booth at the Art Basel Show in Hong Kong in March. Apparently several of the miniPharrells have already been sold to international collectors. Last year Pharrell curated his first modern art exhibition ‘GIRL’ in conjunction with gallery-owner Emmanuel Perrotin

CELEBRITIES, YOU´VE GOT TO LOVE THEM. USUALLY POISED AND COIFFED FOR HOURS ON END TO ATTEND THE LATEST, BIG CELEBRITY BASHES. YET, JUST LIKE US, THEY OCCASIONALLY KNOCK BACK TOO MANY AND THE RESULTS AREN´T TOO PRETTY! TAKE A PEEK AT MARBELLA ROCKS’ TEN BEST DRUNKEN CELEBRITY PICS…
Cheryl Cole Cheryl Cole, who’s now known as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, needed a bit of assistance leaving The Burlington Club after celebrating the 30th birthday bash of Kimberley Walsh´s sister. The owner of the club held the door open as Cheryl precariously exited with a death grip on her clutch purse, with her friend loyally stepping forward to prevent any unfortunate wardrobe malfunctions.
Michael Hasslehoff ´The Hoff´ made headlines back in 2007 when his daughter recorded him steaming drunk in the bathroom eating a hamburger. The recording ended up on You Tube to the delight of the world. His daughter Kitt said she filmed it to highlight his then drink problem.
Ed Sheeran We love Ed Sheeran and one of our highlights of this year´s Brit Awards (apart from his spectacular, live performance) was Ed leaving the Brits after-party. He could barely stand and his eyes were glazed over from one too many, making him our number 1 drunken celeb. We´re also loving the pic of him and Sam Smith in the taxi ride home!

Christina Aguilera The ‘Genie in a Bottle’ singer obviously sunk too many on this wild night out in L.A. The popstar’s tell-tale lipstick trail and half open eyes bumped her into number five on our drunken hotlist.
Lindsay Lohan The ‘Mean Girls’ star has had her fair share of bad publicity with more than eight stints in rehab over five years. Unfortunately she’s renown for for not showing up to set on time after numerous drunken nights out, quite like this one here.
Cara Delevingne The Brit supermodel couldn’t manage to keep up appearances while leaving her hotel after a long night. The poor, overworked supermodel braced herself in the backseat of her limo, elegantly dressed in a long black gown and her hair in braids. Perhaps to avoid any nauseous spillage on those golden locks?
Paris Hilton The original ‘It Girl’, Paris made a name for herself from just being a party chick (and that dodgy sex tape.) Now she has reality shows, perfumes, a dog clothing line and she’s a DJ. Although it’s doubtful that she had the crowds cheering on this night out in 2012. She’s rumoured to be playing at Olivia Valere again this summer, so watch out!!!!
Vernon Troy ´Mini Me´ from the ‘Austin Powers’ trilogy reportedly likes a tall drink or three, along with some tall supermodels. Unfortunately after this heavy session of JD and coke in ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, Vernon was completely out of it, but it did make for some fantastic viewing.
Keifer Sutherland As the intrepid protagonist of ‘24’, Kiefer is normally saving the day but this pic taken at a bar in L.A. shows that he won’t be doing much, inebriated in those underpants, apart from getting a kebab on the way home.

lthough it is not a new hotspot, Nobu on Berkeley Street in Mayfair, is still one of the most popular dining experiences in London. It is has been graced with some high profile clients, as well as being prone to throwing some of the most lavish and high-flying parties. With two specific cuisines, Japanese and Italian, they aren’t lacking in food diversity. Matsuhisa’s extensive Japanese training has been a heavy influence on the mouth-watering menu at Nobu. From King Crab Tempura to Creamy Spicy Shrimp, Beef Kushiyaki and Spicy Seafood Udon, there is a flavour and taste for every Japanese-loving foodie.
WHAT’S TRENDING
An exhibition was held in honour of the late Alexander McQueen in March, the Savage Beauty Exhibition, as expected, turned out to be quite the star-studded bash. Game of Thrones beauty, Natalie Dormer made an exquisite appearance in a chic, gothic, allblack ensemble. And celebrities such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham, Daisy Lowe, Sam Smith and Jack Guinness, were all present to enjoy Ketel One Vodka cocktails, as McQueen’s entire body of work was put on display. Over 240 pieces of McQueen’s designs were featured, including feather dresses, meticulously embroidered kimonos and hand-painted glass clothing. The super impressive collection begins with his 1992 MA graduate collection all the way through to his unfinished A/W 2010 collection.

Awards season has been in full swing the last few months, so it was a welcome break to have the Brits take place in London. It’s no surprise that the big winners of the night were Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and One Direction. Additionally, the multi-talented Taylor Swift accepted her accolade for best International Female Solo Artist, whilst Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars accepted their prestigious and well-deserved award for Best British single, Uptown Funk. The loveable duo, Ant and Dec, did a fantastic job as the hosts of the Brits 2015. It wouldn’t have been complete without a slight catastrophe however; the iconic and legendary Madonna was left red-faced after two of her dancers accidentally strangled her with the cape she was performing in and pulled her off of the stage!! Proving she is one of the best professionals in showbiz, she appeared on the Jonathon Ross show to talk about that infamous moment. Making light of the situation the singer joked that writing lyrics about falling must have been karma, “I’m never writing lyrics like that again the universe was trying to teach me a lesson.”

Gigi most recently appeared on the cover of Vogue Spain in a retro 70s inspired look. Both Kendall and Gigi were spotted at Paris Fashion week after putting on an impressive display on the catwalk.

SPORTS It was a big game for England on 14th March. They fiercely beat Scotland 25-13 to get back in Championship contention. It wasn’t very promising for England at halftime as Scotland was storming in the lead, 13-10. However, thanks to George Ford’s two conversions and two penalties, England secured the big win. Additionally, rivalry teams Saracens and Northampton Saints went head to head the same day at Allianz Park, with Saracens beating the opposition 24-20, landing them a well-deserved place in the LV=Cup Final. Captain and Man of the Match, Maro Itoje said, “It was a good performance from the boys and I’m just so proud and privileged to be a part of such a magnificent team.”

ASTROLOGY
MARBELLA ROCKS ASTROLOGY FORECAST APRIL 2015
Aries
Gemini
Leo
It’s likely that even if you don’t initiate fresh starts and new beginnings, they are going to happen anyway, especially around relationships, this month. Put a fresh foot forward and a spring in your step if you are already coupled up. Singles, on the other hand, could just see the appearance of someone who is ticking all the boxes as well as saying all the right things. If there have been blockages to romance or even business ventures lately they could now vanish like the mist at midday, but opportunities may come in disguise, so look closely. Time to push forward with plans be they professional or personal. Events could even prove you can mix business with pleasure - successfully. Chances are that people are responding to a new ‘you’ on some level. Don’t be your old self if you want fresh outcomes.
Romance has that fated feel - you may feel that destiny had a hand in your meeting or that you have known this person forever. Let go if you are seeking love and know you’ll be in the right place at the right time for it to find you. That’s all part of the mystery. News could open up opportunities on the work front or at the very least, fabulous new friends beckon as your social life shifts into high gear and your network of professional contacts grows. The same fated feel could hang over these new contacts as well, which could just as easily be made standing in the queue for coffee on a commute or in a nightclub. Have business cards ready and if you are handed any in return, keep them as you will be using them! This month proves that when it comes to success in any venture it’s not what you know - but who.
Who turned off the fun? Some of you may have been asking yourselves that question for the past couple of months, but April sees it all turned back on again as your life heads back down the fast lane - where you want it to be. Scene-stealing opportunities and lucky breaks may form part of this and while others turn green as you make it all look so easy, we both know it’s the result of dedication and talent. Travel is high on your agenda, as is the need to liberate yourself from anything that restricts you. April sees a new path opening up that presents you with a steep learning curve, which tests your ability to believe in yourself and your dreams. Don’t forget, when the universe sends us what we want, this too involves a challenge and that’s to accept expansion. Think big, dream big, live on a grand scale now.
Taurus
Cancer
Virgo
News could have you on the back foot or drastically revising your opinion of someone. Ask yourself whether you’ve been seeing them as they truly are or how you hoped they’d be. Very often we see the potential someone carries but they are unable to live up to that. If so, chances are your intuition was telling you what your good nature ignored. However, any disappointments or severed connections are merely to ensure that you are free and unencumbered by anything holding you back, as your birthday brings in a shining new cycle. Bank-account boosting opportunities go hand-in-hand with the soul-boosting kind now and that includes a new lover who is worth your investment. The more different they are from your usual ‘type’ - the more likely they are to expand your world - and bring you the love you deserve.
Focus on what you need to sustain you in the longer term Cancer, especially when it comes to home and career matters. Others had better show they are on the same page as you when it comes to committing to the long haul as you won’t have much patience with anyone who doesn’t share your desire for something lasting - and it won’t matter whether this is your roommate, your boss or anyone in between. If you discover you’re being taken for granted or not taken seriously it’s likely you’ll move to change the terms of the relationship for something that works in your favour. They say often you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, so expect wails of dismay if you withdraw but don’t be tempted to do a U-turn over it. A new beginning that offers the foundation you are seeking is just around the corner.
It’s time to not just be the change you want to see in the world, but to initiate the changes you’re yearning for in your own life this month. Expect passions to be stirred and deep emotions to come to the surface - especially if you have been engaged in any kind of denial about what it is you really want. It’s time for total honesty with yourself first and then loved ones. The result will be more authentic connections and you stepping into your power to deal with and bring about those changes. Of course, power is sexy even if it is just the power to move your own soul. But don’t be surprised, if by doing this, you move someone else’s too - and they move closer as a result. See, being who you truly are has hidden benefits. Don’t be afraid to give in to your desires this month.

Partners and close personal relationships of all descriptions are your main focus this month. If you’re spoken for, then honest communication is what’s needed now and don’t be surprised if this brings about the change you’re seeking or a new beginning. If you’re single, it’s all about the love you believe you deserve as potential lovers reflect these beliefs. However, they may also challenge you on some level and don’t be at all surprised if they rub you up the wrong way at first, only for you to revise your opinion of them later on. This month might be best summed romantically as a Beauty and the Beast month - although which one of you is Beauty and which one the Beast, I’ll leave up to you to decide! Don’t let first impressions influence you as appearances can be deceiving and true love sometimes doesn’t look the way you thought it would.
An unexpected romantic encounter could leave you breathless and hanging, as this person seems to know that the way to your heart is to keep you guessing. You may just have to resign yourself to waiting on them to make the next move. Enjoy the sense of anticipation and just not knowing for certain - yet. Admit it - if it were easy your interest would not be as piqued as it is. Love could be your next big adventure or you could even find it travelling now. It’s time to dust off those dreams and that suitcase, for that matter, but while romance may be the carrot, work will turn out to be the stick which drives you (and pays for the adventures) so don’t ignore your responsibilities even as you crave something (or someone) new. If you have a question around a lover’s intentions, it will be answered in time. While you wait - attend to the job in hand.
Unexpected news demands your attention and a reaction but it’s time to confound others by choosing the one they’d least expect. The same could be said for choosing a lover this month. You may astonish everyone with a ‘Is s/he really going out with him/her?’ date. Others may see your new romantic interest as boring and predictable but that smug, satisfied smile on your face tells a very different story as potential lovers have hidden depths now that they only reveal to those they deem worthy. The fact that they consider that you are, just adds to the allure. Don’t be surprised if you attract someone whose day job merely supports their long-term dreams of something radically different or whose conventional appearance conceals the kind of wild, radical outlaw you find so appealing. That city suit could conceal a rock star in the making. Enjoy confounding expectations this month.

Changes on the work front could catch you unawares but if they are not to your liking, take heart as this month shows that when one door closes another opens. Chances are any surprises are just a course-correction and turn out to be a blessing in disguise if you’ve been secretly resenting that deadend job. What needs to be said gets said this month, whether it’s related to your career or your relationships. Clearing the air will have beneficial results all round. You’ll also come to understand that when it comes to lasting love and happiness, you need someone who embodies sexiness and passion with depth. Is this too much to ask? The answer is no, as the month’s end could see love talk take you somewhere new as someone who ticks all the boxes appears on the scene. And it’s not just all talk and no action either. Turn up the heat now.
If work has preoccupied you of late, it’s now time to let the child within out to play and let others see the fun side you’ve been keeping hidden again. Someone new may be the catalyst that unleashes that free spirit that’s been chained to the desk lately. However, extra efforts at work have not gone unnoticed and rewards and recognition may be forthcoming this month. If there is any extra money around you, think about investing it in your future in some way - either by saving it or investing in your own talents by upskilling. When it comes to financing the fun, you may not be the one who has to bankroll that, as you could be the recipient of a few glittering invites or else someone else’s generosity. Do you have a problem with that? Enjoy the fun of saying ‘Thank you, I’d love to’.
Changes around your income, payments or joint financial arrangements could occur, or an unexpected expense could see you having to re-shuffle financial priorities. When it comes to love, however, it’s time to go with more than just what your heart is telling you. Your ability to trust and see the best in someone means you often jump in too soon and then are left to lick your wounds for a long time. Don’t mistake talk for real intimacy or having lots in common as an indicator that this person deserves your trust - or your love. Both need to be earned, so enjoy their company and their conversation but take your time to allow the ‘real’ person behind all the smooth talk to emerge. Remember, talk is cheap - especially when you’re typing on-line, and actions speak louder than words. Fall in love with someone real - not an illusion if something lasting and long term is your goal.
