celebrities

everyone’s talking about...

HOLLYWOOD BREAK-UPS It’s not been a good month for Tinseltown twosomes as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Kylie Jenner and Tyga and Janet Jackson and Wissam have all called time on their relationships.

BEN & JEN

The road has been rocky for Ben and Jennifer for sometime now, having announced their separation almost two years ago. After months of attempting to patch things up, they have only just officially filed for divorce. Ben and Jen, who married 12 years ago and have three children together, are determined to keep things amicable and even filed their court documents at the same time. They have reportedly asked for joint custody of their children - Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8

TYGA & KYLIE

Meanwhile over in camp Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and rapper beau Tyga have gone their separate ways after a 2 year romance. Kylie, 19, was reportedly the instigator of the split saying that Tyga, 27, is no good for her as he constantly distracts her from her work. Meanwhile sources close to the hip hop star say that he was the one that called time because of the way Kylie belittles him on the E! Entertainment show ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians.’ Either way the previously inseparable couple

JANET & WISSAM

Singer Janet Jackson has split from her billionaire CEO husband Wissim Al Mana, just 3 months after the birth of their son, Eissa. It is believed Janet, who converted to Muslim to be with her Quatari born husband, no longer shared his cultural beliefs and the two had been at loggerheads over the fact he wanted a ‘strict Muslim wife’ while Janet was no longer prepared to tow the line. The couple married in secret in 2012, with Janet revealing the union

and Samuel, 5 - but have yet to decide who gets what in the way of spousal support. The former couple have put on a united front for the sake of the children and were seen taking the kids out to an Easter church service looking relaxed and happy.

have not been pictured together for over 3 weeks now, despite both attending the Coachella Festival, they did not cross each other’s paths and Tyga was pictured looking more than comfortable with a group of models on the set of his new music video.

a year later. Less than a week after the split on April 12, Wissam posted on his website: “To the most beautiful person in the world, thank you for your divine love, your eternal support and thank you for being my best friend.” Hmmm message might not have been received then.

news MOVING IN ONE DIRECTION

Liam Payne has rented out his $8million LA pad to settle down in a lavish Sussex home with girlfriend Cheryl and their one month old baby son. The former One Direction star, 23, is netting a cool $32,000 a month rent from his US digs and investing it all in his new Sussex family home. Cheryl, 33, is over the moon with her boyfriend, ecstatic at becoming a mother for the first time and has already hinted marriage may well be on the cards. Well everything else seems to be in order now.

SPEIDI HAVING A BABY Oh no, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have procreated! The abysmal ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ couple announced the news they were expecting via a front cover and supporting feature in US Weekly. Heidi and Spencer (or Speidi as they are known) were pictured on the beach in Santa Barbara both wearing white whilst holding their 12 week scan picture. The news comes as several of their former ‘Hills’ co-stars have also announced they are having babies. The first being Lauren Conrad and husband William Tell as well as Whitney Port and hubby Tim Rosenman.

JESY FANS BLAST CHRIS CLARK

Little Mix fans are reeling from Jesy Nelson’s recent split with TOWIE star Chris Clark. Not only did the ITV Be lothario dump her while she was on a tour with the band by text but he has already followed his ex on Instagram again and started interacting with her online. Jesy’s fans and friends have become suspicious about the situation – saying that his fling with Jesy was for publicity and Chris and his ex will be getting back together as a storyline for TOWIE. Meanwhile Jesy, who is supporting Ariana Grande on her Dangerous Woman tour in the US, is said to be in pieces over the break-up call telling friends there is no chance of a reconciliation. Chris’ camp deny all allegations that his relationship was Jesy’s was in any way fake.

CHRIS BROWN INVESTIGATED BY POLICE

Chris Brown is under investigation for punching a photographer who was documenting his recent appearance at a Florida nightclub. According to TMZ, the 27-year-old singer was embroiled in the scuffle when the venue’s inhouse photographer kept trying to take pictures of him. The final straw came when (despite his warnings) the photographer took a picture of

the crowd which Chris misinterpreted was of him. He then allegedly jumped over a sofa to attack the photographer punching him in the jaw in the corner of the nightclub. It is not known whether the photographer’s jaw is broken but he has a split lip and video footage from revellers mobile phones at the Tampa based nightclub has been sent to police for further investigation.

PRINCE HARRY PRAISED FOR MENTAL HEALTH REVELATION

Prince Harry has been praised by charities for talking about his own personal experiences with mental health, which experts claim is helping to remove stigma on the illness and will encourage other men to seek help. Harry openly admitted that his 20’s were “total chaos” and that he saw a psychiatrist to overcome emotions over the death of his mother because he had completely “shut down” following Diana’s death in 1997. He said he was inspired to speak out because of his involvement with mental health charity

Heads Together and because he has come out the other side “in a good place now." Following the interviews, Sir Simon Wessely, president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said, “He has a reach across the world that people like me can only dream – he will have communicated in a way that I have been working all my life to achieve.” While Paul Farmer, CEO of charity Mind, described the interview as “inspiring.” According to official figures 1 in 4 people will be affected by mental health at some stage in their lives.

MEET M - YOUR FACEBOOK PA

Facebook has launched a new digital assistant for its Messenger app called 'M'. The social media giant is late to the virtual assistant party; Google, Microsoft, Apple and Amazon have all introduced their own in recent years. Facebook hopes that its new addition to Messenger will "enrich the way people communicate and get things done". M is designed to provide easy, helpful links to relevant content in conversations by providing prompts to send stickers, pay or request money, share a location, make plans, start a poll, or get a ride. The AI powering M recognises intent in a conversation and then makes a suggestion. The more you use the more M will appear on your messenger to help.

#ETHICAL FASHION

GREEN is the new BLACK. Creating ethical fashion is becoming more mainstream as consumer awareness about how clothes are actually produced means it’s much easier to shop with social responsibility and go for environmentally friendly styles. One brilliant example is Marbella Design Academy’s Bachelor of Fashion graduate Brodie Alexandra. A vegan from the age of 14 and vegetarian for life with a passion for ethics and sustainability, Brodie believes in preserving the world we live in and using fashion as a platform to generate interest and intrigue. As such she has set up her own label, Alexandra Brodie, making clothes from recycled fabrics and not using any animal products or by-products. Over the past 3 years she has been studying sustainability in fashion in conjunction with her fashion design degree at Marbella Design Academy. Brodie has also just completed an internship with 3to33, a United Nations Nexus project whose aim is to raise awareness to 33 pressing world issues using 33 enlightening short videos. The aim of the campaign was to captivate a mass audience with short powerful videos, each new video increasing in time by one minute until reaching the final 33 minute video. Every eye-

catching and captivating costume related to the issues were created by her, as shown here. Brodie said, “The fashion industry is one of the most unsustainable industries, destroying lives, villages, nature and animals. People buy so many products and then just throw them away. I want more people to use sustainable resources in fashion, or even know that it’s an option.”

To get in touch with Brodie email her at alexandrabrodie.designs@gmail.com. To enquire about a getting into a career in fashion and securing a place on Marbella design academy's Bachelor of Fashion programme see www.designschool.com

Wonder Woman To coincide with the launch of the hotly anticipated summer blockbuster Wonder Woman, Jean Paul Gaultier is releasing the limited edition Classique Eau Fraiche – a sweet medley of aromas featuring sugar cane juice, orange blossom and vanilla. At 76 and still flying strong this retro Wonder Woman scent priced at €80 is a perfect kitch gift idea. Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot is being released in cinemas from June 1.

CRUNCHY BULGHAR SALAD A vibrant summer salad with radishes, edamame beans, peppers, almonds and herbs, drizzled with a citrus dressing. Healthy, light and fresh with only 483 calories a serving. INGREDIENTS (Serves 4) • 200g bulghar wheat • 150g frozen podded edamame beans • 2 romano peppers, sliced into rounds, seeds removed • 150g radishes, finely sliced • 75g whole blanched almonds • Small bunch mint, finely chopped • Small bunch parsley, finely chopped • 2 oranges • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil METHOD 1. Cook the bulghar following pack instructions, then drain and tip into a large serving bowl to cool. 2. Put the edamame beans in a small bowl, pour over boiling

water, leave for 1 min, then drain. Put in a serving bowl with the peppers, radishes, almonds, mint and parsley. 3. Peel one orange, carefully cut away the segments and add to

the bowl. 4. Squeeze the juice of the other into a jam jar with the oil. Season well and shake to emulsify. Pour over the salad, toss well and serve.

WINE MATCH The best wines to pair with bulghar wheat are whites that bring out the nutty side to the grain. A ripe, oaky Australian Chardonnay blends perfectly with the sweet, tangy and assertive flavours of this particular dish. As the salad contains edamame beans and radishes a Sauvignon Blanc or lesser known Pinot Gris - which are becoming increasingly popular - would also work particularly well. Stay clear of reds and if you are a fan of rose, go for a light, dry rose like Pinot Noir.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES

BLONDIE: POLLINATOR

Sarah J. Maas : A COURT OF WINGS AND RUIN

We all love Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Jack Sparrow, which he actually modelled on Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. Queue swigging rum from a bottle and acting disgracefully in too much kohl eyeliner! Luckily for us this month we will be treated to another Pirates Of The Caribbean outing this May with a great ensemble cast. The legendary Geoffrey Rush is back on board as Barbossa, Orlando Bloom resurfaces as cute, do-gooder Will Turner but this time a terrifying new adversary called Captain Salazar, played by the menacing Javier Bardem, is thrown in the mix. Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Armado Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea...including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas. Some caution is warned for parents with younger children as it has been given a PG13 rating for scenes with ‘adventure violence’. But all in all a swashbuckling return to the silver screen for this hit making franchise that fans of the original trilogy will adore.

Whoop whoop… Blondie is back. The 70’s powerhouse that brought you hits ‘Atomic,’ ‘Heart of Glass’ and ‘Call Me’ are releasing their first album since 2014’s Ghost of Download. For their 11th record, Pollinator, lead singer Debbie Harry and band members Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Matt Katz-Bohen, Leigh Foxx and Tommy Kessler have enlisted an eclectic selection of songwriters to write and perform their music including chartopper Sia, Charli XCX and the Strokes’ Nick Valensi and Johnny Marr. Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio is also responsible for writing their first single, ‘Fun,’ which is a playful, shimmering disco track that has wowed the critics. In addition to the aforementioned pop and indie acts, electronic music pioneers’ Laurie Anderson and ‘Love Hurts’ rock singer Joan Jett also perform on some of the tracks. “Their material is part of us and we are part of them”, says Debbie Harry, 71, of their co-writers. “It’s a celebration of recycling!” The album, released by BMG Rights Management is released on May 5. Meanwhile Blondie has recently joined the line-up including Phil Collins at the British Summer Time gig in London’s Hyde Park taking place on June 30.

Lina Hodgkins You have probably already recognised Lina aka “Mummy Marbella” Hodgkins from ITVBe´s Life on Marbs and Elliot Wright’s spin-off show Playa in Marbella but Lina is much more than a reality TV star. She is the formidable Marketing Manager of the Linekers Group – a role she has held for 12 years now and takes in her stride. Marbella Rocks had the pleasure of CATCHING UP WITH HER to find out all about the summer season, her new night Y Knot and how she copes with the ups and downs of fame. Q: You are running Portside, Linekers, Bijoux, Babilonia, Premier Lap-dance Club and Tibu. How do you find the time?

I don’t actually get too involved with the general running of the venues, each venue has its own manager and they take full control of all the day to day duties, my job is more filling them, which is a massive job on its own. I have over 40,000 people booked direct with me this year and I deal with all of them so my time is limited as you can imagine how much time this takes, being a workaholic helps!

Q: What is the trickiest venue to run?

They all come with their good and bad issues, but most of the time everything runs smoothly; I don’t think one is more difficult than the other.

Q: What does Summer 2017 have in store for us at these venues?

I am a firm believer in – “if it’s not broken don’t try to fix it.” Bijoux has an extended terrace from the end of last summer and has become a recognised bar on the second line and going from strength to strength and Babilonia just becomes more and more busy. Linekers is still the main party bar and I believe will continue to grow and grow as it does every year, due to the fact it does exactly what it says on the tin, there is nothing pretentious about Linekers, people just love the party vibe.

Q: We hear big things planned are for nightclub Tibu. Can you tell our readers about its recent refurbishment?

TIBU looks absolutely amazing and has a considerable amount of money spent on it this year, It has gone from a great nightclub to a super club and is really worth a visit - TIBU being the most established nightclub in Puerto Banus, it will always look and feel the best that Marbella has to offer. We have some amazing DJs and promoters booked for 2017.

Q: The theme for the new Thursday night at Tibu is Ladies Night ‘Y Knot’ which you are running. Where did the idea come from and how will the female element be incorporated on the night?

I wanted something a bit different to all the club night names, and a bit quirky, and came up with Y-Knot – why don’t you! Nobody is offering a ladies night in Marbella, so thought “Y-Knot”. Although it’s a ladies night men are very welcome – the night is going to be a lot about the music – garage is making a huge comeback especially the old skool stuff, also club classics so it will have everybody dancing to everything they remember.

Q: What brands are you working with to make this so special?

I started working with local fashion brands; I am a big supporter of Marbella independent brands, I am working with the designer Caroline Azzi, Nancy from Bling Boutique and Teresa Leaver from Minxy Closet, more will follow as I go through the summer.

Q: As it’s a ladies themed night, are the eligible bachelors of Marbella still welcome to join and what are you offering them? Eligible bachelors are always welcome!!! The ladies will be there so I am one hundred percent sure the men will follow – Y-Knot???

Q: Do you have any special drinks packages planned for the night? We also offer drinks packages, I have a special drink pink for the ladies, pink vodka, pink tequila and pink champagne.

Q: What are the plans for the opening night? Launching Y-Knot with a fashion show early on the terrace, which gives local fashion houses a chance to showcase their Spring/Summer collections, from there, it’s party time in a big way, the plan is that everybody who comes to TIBU on Thursdays have the best night ever!

Q: What music can partygoers expect to dance to at Y Knot?

A lot of old Skool garage, club classics old Skool house, club remixes, I want to keep it so that it is all recognised dancing songs, that everybody loves. I also have Artful Dodger, So Solid and Luck & Neat booked throughout the Summer.

Q: What about new night Tropicana at Tibu on Mondays?

Tropicana is an industry night, a chance for all the workers in the Port and surrounding areas to come and let their hair down after the weekend, plus of course all the residents and tourists are also more than welcome. It is very usual that the tourists follow the workers.

Q: What other club nights are back?

We have kept most of them as they were all so successful, so Play

news I would love to do another one, so come on production companies find some money and let’s get filming, I found it just a great thing to do and peoples reaction to the shows, some good some bad, just love the element of surprise as both were completely non- scripted, I never knew what was going to happen next, and it just all pans out.

Q: You attempted a few wacky ways to give up smoking on television, have any of them ever worked?

I have tried almost everything there is to offer, from burying cigarettes in plant pots to hypnosis and I hate to say it but nothing really works for me, although I do smoke a lot less that I did and a not so harsh brand, but who knows, there has to be something to make me stop. I am open to any ideas and experiments.

Q: You get ‘spotted’ a lot in the port. Do you enjoy the fame?

Room, Cirque De Funk, Candy Pants, Sintillate and few surprises along the way.

Q: What’s your favorite venue/night out in Marbella?

It will always be Portside, I love sitting on the back terrace, chatting, people watching and there is so much people watching at Portside. I just love Portside´s vibe it’s not to hectic and not to slow, just about right for me.

Q: So Lina after two successful TV shows in 2 years, will you be back on our screens anytime soon?

There are no plans at this time as it is so expensive to make TV in Marbella – but who knows – watch this space! But it was an incredible experience to take part in, as both shows were very different to film.

I am not sure “fame” is the right word, however my car is spotted as much as me, at first it was a bit daunting but I got used to it and now it doesn’t bother me at all if people want photos, the only thing is they take the picture then go, and then I may see it pop up somewhere on social media and it’s a really horrible picture, but I suppose that is the price of “fame”!!

a group of around 20 girls around my car taking pictures and then when they saw me they wanted more but they were screaming, I put on sunglasses for pictures, but they made so much noise, Port authority came along they thought there was some kind of fracas.

Q: What has the reaction been to the Summer Season so far? Have you found your prebookings are up this year?

It amazes me every year how many people pre-book it continues to increase year after year and I have been doing this for 12 years, 2017 will be another bumper year, now people book earlier and earlier – I already have a lot of confirmed bookings for 2018 – which is mad.

Q: Why should our readers head to Linekers Group venues over all the others?

Within the Linekers group there is something for everybody, from outside terrace chilling, Bijoux or Portside and watching the world go by, to really trendy and cool Babilonia, to the madness of Linekers, lap-dancing for the guys and then the club scene of TIBU, so whatever anybody wants it’s all there for any age or occasion.

Catch Lina at Y-Knot at Tibu

EVERY Thursday IN SUMMER

Q: What’s been the best thing you’ve blagged being a TV star?

I am not really one to blag things and have never asked for stuff, however people send me stuff and just ask that I post a picture with it – I have had costume jewellery, bags, fabulous eyelashes but my favorite is waterman’s grow me shampoo I am still using it – it really is an amazing product – but I am still waiting for Dolce & Gabbana to send me some frocks!!

For guest list and tables visit

Q: What’s the most annoying part (or funniest situation) you have had with fans? The worst part is when I have a monster hangover and look terrible and people want pictures, I had finished work one day and there was

MILLENIAL GIRL

Zara is poster girl for the Millenial generation – at only 19 – she is feisty, honest and speaks out about political issues and has the platform on which to do it with millions of followers and a multi-platinum pop career spanning almost a decade. LUSH LIFE SPEAKING HER MIND Zara Maria Larrson was born on December 16 1997 and at the age of only 10 she competed in and won ‘Talang’, the Swedish version of ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’ While that bought her notoriety in Sweden and 500 SWK (€50,000), Zara confesses she thought her career was over before it had even begun as she had to wait till 14 to get signed by a major record label. “I was still pretty stressed out, but the older I got, the more relaxed I felt. When I was younger, I thought life was over by 25. But now I’ve kind of realised that life begins at 25.” We would have to argue that sentiment. Only last year, the then 18-year-old ‘Lush Life’ singer had 3 singles in the top 40, a number 1 in 8 countries and had already performed with a list of artists like the VIP guest list to an NME party including Ty Dollar, Tinie Tempah, MNEK. More recently she has collaborated with Clean Bandit in hit song ‘Symphony’ which she co-wrote with Ed Sheeran from her latest album So Good. Plus, to date she has notched up two MTV Music Awards, a Kid’s Choice Award and a Brit Award nomination for British Single of the Year in 2017 for ‘Girl’s Like’ with Tinie Tempah. Time Magazine also listed her as among the “30 Most Influential Teens” in the world in their 2016 poll. And all this while still studying at school. However, Zara finishes up her education this summer and plans to tour, a part of the business she loves. Last summer she performed at 8 festivals including the Gibraltar Music Festival, in a cool metallic two piece – wowing onlookers. She is the perfect all singing, dancing, striking pop package. But with edge.

36 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 30

Part of Zara’s edge comes with her strong beliefs and the fact she is totally prepared to air them. She has always been vocal about issues close to her heart. “Both my parents are very educated and when it comes to me speaking about social issues and about what’s going on in the world, they’ve been very supportive,” she says. So who has crossed Zara’s path exactly? Well for starters there’s men in general! A self-proclaimed feminist, after learning a man had committed a sexual assault on a woman during her set at Bravalla Festival in July 2016, Larrson went onto her social media to not only condemn the act but what was seen by many as her “blaming all men for the attack.” “F*** you who shamelessly raped a girl in the audience. You deserve to burn in hell. F*** you for making girls feel insecure when they go to a festival. I hate guys. Hate hate hate.” Strong words indeed. Zara also recently posted a picture of her on social media with a condom on her leg, criticising men who refuse to wear them because they are “too big”. A move that won her praise from anti-teen pregnancy groups. “It was a bold move but it definitely got the message across,” one campaigner said. Talking about her strong opinions, Larrson was honest enough to admit that her “manhater” label is actually well deserved and explains her views. “Women are oppressed because of men. It's not a complete lie. People focusing on me being a man-hater is irrelevant, in my opinion. Who cares if I don't like men as a group? It's not a problem, it doesn't hurt anyone. I'm

upset because the world hates women. Women are being raped by men, accused, murdered, harassed, discriminated. It's a natural reaction to be upset.” Zara has also bated Donald Trump, singer Dr Luke and even rapper Chris Brown whom she said, “I think he is very talented, but I won’t support him because he is an asshole.” Brown was arrested in 2009 for assaulting then girlfriend Rihanna. While Zara’s comments have catapulted her further into the public eye (and not always in a positive light) she is the first to admit, in typical millennial style, that she really doesn’t care. She would rather be honest about her views and have no fans then keep her views supressed and have millions of fans. Although you may not agree with Zara’s feisty leftfield beliefs - it is brave of her to be that strongly convicted to them that she would sacrifice her career over her silence.

WHAT NEXT Zara is pleased with her latest album ‘So Good,’ which reached the top 10 in 6 countries and became one of the the most streamed dance album on Spotify, but readily acknowledges that it is just another step on the road to global superstardom. “I’m on my way, but I’m not even close to where I want to be. I want to sell out stadium after stadium. I want to make multi-platinum records… I think I’ll always have a hunger for more. That’s just the person I am.”

CORSETS First of all drop out the notion of 18th Century can’t breathe corsets, unsightly waist trainers and 90’s gothic, the modern corset is a million miles away from what it was and is making a huge comeback this season. We show you how to wear the season’s it trend to look more Gigi than Grandmother.

Gigi Hadid wears it well with a full length black satin corset over a long crisp white shirt and casual black jeans.

Add a girly and sophisticated edge to a utility duster jacket or dress with a ruffled edge corset for a structured look. This instantly jazzes up any Plain Coat or Dress.

Opt for a corset in a bold colour to stand out against a neutral colour tone or monochrome outfit like Kendall Jenner.

Dress down a statement corset with a pair of jeans and a simple plain T-shirt For a great everyday look.

Go for a mini corset to embrace the trend without looking OTT. This will work well on any short, midi or maxi dress.

SHEER The see-through dress ruled supreme on this year’s runways. When the lines between party outfits and dayto-day looks are blurred, it can make us shudder to think how we can get away with embracing this risqué trend. Balletic ensembles at Molly Goddard and Dior reign supreme.

Maria Grazia Chiuri's debut Dior haute couture collection shows us how to get it right. See-through, yet demure and zero flesh flashing. FOR HIGH STREET LOOK TO TOPSHOP AND KAREN MILLEN WHO HAVE GREAT VERSIONS OF THE SHEER TREND. This look is definitely for evening only and those that dare to bare.

features Choose clever lace panelling over nude mesh for a stunning look that doesn’t overexpose. Bella Hadid took the trend to the extreme at the Christian Dior ball. We salute the boxer briefs but the top was a little too see-through for our liking. Molly Goddard’s tule skirts are a good way to embrace the see through trend without showing too much flesh. Fun, flirty and Sex and the City-esque. Khloe Kardashian just about gets away with this sheer top and skirt ensemble in the day but we’d suggest saving this for a night on the town. BANDANAS Designer Pitti Uomo has cemented the return of the bandana for Summer 2017. Try a bandana headscarf with a smart suit or adapt the trend more casually with a minimalist shirt. To make bandanas feel like a fresher style trend, search for unexpected prints and colours.

Be like singer Jason Mraz and rock a bandana with a suit for an edgy look. Tie the Bandana a thicker width than you would normally do and always leave the top button undone for a relaxed vibe. Tupac wore it best in the 90’s with the bandana tied at the front. This trend is seeing a resurgence.

Physiotherapy, personal training, nutrition counseling and more

Are you looking for physiotherapy services or a program that improves your mobility? Do you want to move more and eat healthier? Do you want to go beyond your current limits in your training as an amateur or professional athlete? Injury can be caused by trauma, or it can be the result of our lifestyle; the way you move, the work we do, or the sports we play. Whatever the cause, physiotherapy is the key to restoring your ability to live a full, active and healthy life.

EXPERIENCED TEAM

This will enable them to determine a treatment programme tailored to your needs, in order to decrease your pain and relive your symptoms. Your physiotherapist will than apply the most appropriate techniques offering a wide range of treatment options. This, together with specific exercises to activate and strengthen your muscles, will help you to achieve your goals and prevent re-injury. Apart from conventional rehabilitation treatment, we offer fitness programs, personal training, individual performance diagnostics for athletes and nutrition counseling.

FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS

The physiotherapy team are experienced in treating patients from all backgrounds, with a wide range of conditions. Whether you have recently undergone surgery, have had workrelated pain or have suffered from a sports injury, they have the knowledge and skills to get you back on track!

Gait Analysis and Custom Made Insoles

The goal of “freedom from pain” is just the beginning. Even more interesting for the team of the Foot & Sports Clinic Marbella : Where does the pain come from? What is the cause? And more importantly: How can we eliminate the cause in the long term? A central element of the diagnosis is the so-called gait analysis. For this reason they start with the most

modern analytical computerised technology to solve a mysterious puzzle: a person’s gait!

In more than 80% of patients wrong gait patterns are the cause of back pain. The Foot & Sports Clinic Marbella analyses the gait of their patients with a so-called “Pedobarograph” which measures the pressure distribution in stance and during walking. Based on this computerised measurement and analysis, but also of course based on the clinical experience of their therapists, they can draw many conclusions about the cause of the pain. This method can also detect and demonstrate the functional effect of foot deformities or general deformities of the locomotor system in gait patterns on various graphs. It is also a great tool to visualize the change of load distribution during gait after a surgery or a functional treatment. Ergonomically manufactured inserts in shoes can help. However, they must be made so that they fit into modern footwear. This requires a scan to capture the 3D shape of the plantar aspect of human feet. By using personalised insoles, feet learn to walk again in a correct and natural position, relieving pains caused by bad posture.

ant to get fit, make a change, build some confidence in your appearance, get shredded for summer or even fancy stepping onstage to compete? Where do you start? Well, in a time where we have uncalculatable (did I just invent a word?) access to information, where the average British household owns 7.4 internet devices, hell we are practically walking around with mini supercomputers in our pockets. It might seem that all the info we need is right in front of us. Unfortunately it's not so clear cut and you can end up spending as much time wading around the contradiction, misinformation and pure marketing lies as you would actually dieting and transforming your life. Day in day out I'm constantly covering and debating the usual business of common misconception - that the magazines and blogs have us believe and without it quite frankly I would be out of a job. That being said I love to talk about these things so what better to ramble about this month than a few common "fitness myths."

No carbs after 6

When it comes to common misinformation regarding nutrition and diet, this imaginary bogey man, the whole notion of "no carbs after 6pm" is my favourite. Literally it is just ridiculous and ignorant to at some point hear this phrase and just recycle it as fact. Unfortunately you don't need a qualification or licence to write an article or advise someone on nutrition and most generic fitness "experts" are churning out clichés and B.S like this all over the internet and in gyms across the globe (and charging you your hard earned for the privilege). This common bogus health tip has evolved from the perception that large meals at night time cause weight gain because you’re not engaging in activity that "taps into carb stores to burn them" or "metabolism is slower during sleep" and other nonsense like that. NO just NO! Let’s list a few reasons why this little niggle needs binning FOREVER. The common counter argument to this is usually "your body doesn't know what time it is" and it's a good one but because this particular subject is one garbage that really grinds my gears, I'm going to go a little more in depth here. So apparently I hear your Metabolism is slower when you're sleeping! OK (Cracks knuckles) Sleeping Metabolic Rate (SMR) actually yo-yos through the night. It's shown that during the beginning period of rest yes it slows up to 35% BUT we then find as these studies go on that it actually then increases during REM or deep sleep. This balance would suggest that overall metabolism and fat oxidisation during a sleep period of let's say

8 hours doesn't actually differ from that of your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). There is also a difference in your SMR dependant on your physical make up and activity levels. Your overall level of exercise can affect your sleeping metabolic rate and unless you are obese and sedentary not only does your SMR not slow down it actually increases. So, in much the same way we treat muscle growth as "stimulate in the gym and grow during sleep", we exercise in the day and oxidise fat during the night regardless of your evening carb intake. So not only does your metabolic rate not slow down during sleep, it actually in most cases INCREASES! Also, if deep sleep (REM) increases the metabolic rate then the release of hormones such as serotonin/melatonin that promote sleep during the digestion period is very very welcome and alongside the elements of slow release nutrients keeping you in a fed state for longer. The argument for eating let's say a bowl of oats and protein (I'm eating this before sleep 99% of days NOM NOM) is even further cemented. And if you train early morning in a fasted state like many, your muscles will be well charged with fuel (glycogen) ready to smash your workout without promoting an insulin/blood pressure response of pre workout carbs. (if that's something you're even afraid of). Now if we are afraid of carbs at night because we are less active let's also acknowledge that sleep is not the only time we are sedentary. Those who work sat on a chair all day in an office are very inactive for a similar period of time so no carbs after you start at the office then? No carbs before a long car drive? No carbs here and no carbs there blah blah let's just stop. Carbs at night, carbs in the day or carbs never (no thanks) it doesn't hold such importance to the overall goal. As in most cases Calories in vs. Calories out are the main important factor in fat loss. REF: Katayose Y, Tasaki M, Ogata H, Nakata Y, Tokuyama K, Satoh M. Metabolic rate and fuel utilization during sleep assessed by whole-body indirect calorimetry. Metabolism. 2009 Jul;58(7):920-6.

Small but often (Meal frequency)

It's another common trend to be told generically to eat "small but often" to stave hunger and increase satiety. HOWEVER employing this method of drip dosing carbs in small doses and often promotes a vicious circle of insulin response that actually creates a pattern in the body of sending a regular hunger signal to the brain. Small doses of carbs constantly promote insulin to drive the glucose into the muscle cell, when this secretion of insulin diminishes you feel the sensation of hunger again to trick you to add more carbs to the conveyer

HEALTH & FITNESS belt. When in fact it kinda sounds reasonable to employ this "little but often" periodisation it’s actually promoting hunger because your body is now used to this pattern. However I believe if you ate carbs less frequently with more time between carb dosings, you would be less hungry because your own body would ramp up systems that deal with glucose production, and keep your blood glucose steady. Yes if your body is used to frequent meals then changing to a less frequent intake will make you feel hungry at first but as your body readjusts to this it will level out and become used to your new pattern of eating that perhaps fits your lifestyle/training better. Does small but often work? YES. Is it necessary? NOPE. 7 meals a day or 3 large meals a day (I know a bodybuilder and a good one, that eats once or twice a day) it's all the same. Calories in vs. calories out are maintained things are going to happen right. (are you seeing the trend?)

Sugars are the enemy

Let's talk about the "avoidance" and "stick to" methods for a second. The go to advice employed by the masses of "Pocket Experts" is usually to avoid certain elements or "Stick to" this and that etc and the main one that is demonised is Sugar. Sugar is bad, Sugar is the enemy, Sugar is the DEVIL, DON'T EVEN LOOK AT SUGAR.....yeah sure mate. All Carbohydrates are sugar. Now put simply (as this is a subject I have covered in depth and will again soon) good carbs (complex sugars) and bad carbs (simple sugars) aside from fibre content only really differ in the process that the body needs to employ to break them down into Glucose (blood sugar). Once broken down they are then transported into the cell as Glycogen with the help of our good buddy insulin (which knocks on the door of the cell in passing for it to open and accept its dose). Complex carbs are just a chain of scary simple carbs bound together that your body just needs to first break down into separate (bad carbs) elements in order to then process them. Which obviously takes a little longer and makes them slower. So when the complex sugar is broken down in to separate simple sugars it goes in the pile of simple sugars with the other simple sugars ready to be used as simple sugars. IT'S ALL THE SAME FUEL IN THE TANK. Have too much and you will put on fat, have too little and the body will compensate by putting on fat (emergency store). Have just enough and the body is happy and confident there is enough fuel coming in to power the whole process then you will drop the extra stores. Calories in vs. CALORIES OUT (ok now surely your seeing the trend now come on?)

Natural Sugars

"Oh yeah but my special juice is natural sugars so it's different" DON'T BE SO SILLY and please read the above ;)

Protein

One major error usually made by guys who are eager to pack on the muscle is to eat as much protein as possible to achieve it. In short Protein contains calories, 4kcal per gram in fact so let's just imagine you don't actually need so much. If this is in fact the case consuming 300g Protein when perhaps for your bodyweight you only require 240g

78 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 30

on a diet that is restricting your carbohydrates and making you suffer and sacrifice doesn't add up. If you correctly calculate your protein requirements this will free up calories (calories in vs. calories out remember) for you to up your carb intake and have that banana or chocolate rice cake that's been whispering your name. In the above instance this would equate to saving 240kcal or 60g of extra carbs in your day. YES PLEASE!! There is just no evidence that anything over 1g/lb is beneficial for anabolism and there is evidence that going too high can actually reduce the anabolic response. "Shakes are not ‘needed’ either but there is also no reason to cut them out. As far as having Amino Acid (building blocks of protein) profiles that are better than whole foods, whey has probably the best profile in terms of bioavailability and leucine content and there is strong evidence that leucine is the only amino acid that can independently stimulate protein synthesis" Dr Layne Norton PHD. Also research shows that when consumed alongside Carbs and Fat will Plateau amino acid levels for around 3 hours and they will start falling off after that but at 5 hours post meal they are still elevated above baseline. In short this means again that meal frequency (discussed above) again isn't such a factor even from a protein consumption point of view. I recommend that you're in the mind set of consuming 30g of protein within a 4 hour period and then the carbs and fats intake just as you like or to fit your lifestyle as long as your CALORIES IN VS CALORIES OUT are in check ha-ha.

Bottom line

Yes there is a lot of information and misinformation out there on the web but there is also a library of accurate studies and information available. If you are really serious about getting it right then websites such as Pub MED and other published study sources are a great place to stop by. Also it's great to find certain figures online that have reputations for studies and writing and passing on ACTUAL facts and proven information and sticking with them. Following "Bro science" advice, Level 1 PT gym instructor internet blog nonsense and over hyped useless product label instructions without question just simply won't help you achieve more than a lighter wallet. Take some time to do some research it's for a good cause… YOU!!

FUEL BRASSERIE P

opular bar and restaurant Fuel Brasserie is one of the rare gems in Marbella, situated in the beautiful Aloha region with stunning views of Las Brisas Golf Course backed by the magnificent La Palmitera mountain range, you would be hard pushed to find a more beautiful setting. With its white-walled exterior façade and waterfall fountain, this modern yet classic venue is set apart from every establishment in the bustling epicentre of Marbella. Once you climb the stairs to Fuel you are presented with a beautiful open plan terrace where you can dine under the stars and take in the impressive views or sit in the contemporary white leather and marble designed main restaurant which is equally appealing. For a casual cocktail there is also an exterior bar called Prinks (standing for pre-drinks before you ask!) and an impressive interior bar that stretches across the whole left side of the restaurant. You are indeed spoilt for choice at Fuel.

SERVICE WITH A SMILE

On arrival to Fuel Brasserie you are greeted with a warm welcome. It’s less pretentious than other more stuffy

86 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 30

Marbella venues yet the service is unrivalled and the staff are always on hand to help without being too overbearing. Our reviewers were greeted by manager Matty Katerzabek, who we later found out (to no surprise) used to work under celebrity chef Marco Pierre White at his top Birmingham based Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar and Grill Restaurant at the Cubes before he was headhunted to run Fuel Brasserie. He is a true gentleman and a character – very witty, entertaining and we have to say a testament to the service and experience you will have when dining out at Fuel. Catch him in a dapper checkered suit, matching waistcoat and pocket clock. And that’s on a normal night (!) not just when Fuel runs one of its many events such as fashion shows or entertainment nights with the best local singers or bands.

MICHELIN INSPIRED MENU

Last summer the restaurant launched its Michelin star inspired menu with Heston Blumenthal chef, Clive Dixon, at the helm. The European cuisine is pure genius and the dishes are made from the finest ingredients from the farm, field and

sea. Expect to sample Lobster, Muscles, Prawns Pil-Pil, Tuna Tartare, Sea Bass, Burgers, Pondicherry Curry, Rack of Lamb, T-Bone Steak and many more tantalising options. Our tasters opted for the starter of Bang Bang Chicken consisting of poached chicken with sesame and peanut dressing on cucumber salad with an Asian vinaigrette of ginger and Japanese Nori and the Deep Fried Goat’s Cheese which came served with a Sicilian sweet and sour aubergine salad. Both were impressive, the chicken in the Bang Bang was succulent and plentiful with a superb twist of flavours; the sweetness of the peanut perfectly offsetting the sharpness of the ginger and vinaigrette. The Goat’s Cheese was also superb, with a crisp breadcrumb outer layer and gooey centre. Plus, it was far more exciting to have the tangy sweet and sour aubergine accompaniment than a traditional bed of leaves. The main courses were also equally impressive. The Clay Baked Whole Seabream was a great alternative to a traditional grilled fish main; fresh, generous in portion size and coated in mild spices and baked in Fuel’s own tandoor oven, served with shaved fennel and grilled lemon. The Fillet Steak (Irish beef tenderloin – we were told) was also on point with triple cooked chips and green beans, our taster opted for homemade Bernaise Sauce which was creamy and delicious.

With mains over and belts a bit tight, our tasters went for the lighter options for dessert. The St Tropez Lemon Posset with raspberries and spiced shortbread crumb was heavenly and a real palatte cleanser while the Summer Fruit Salad was anything but boring with mint, basil and Pedro Ximenez sherry for an added kick to the seasonal fruits. Although it has to be said the Rich Chocolate Cake with Pistachio Ice-Cream another happy Fuel customer went for did look amazing and will definitely get a testing on our second outing.

WASHED DOWN WITH…

One of the many nice touches at Fuel is their plentiful drinks menu and wine pairing service. Every dish on the menu has a wine recommendation written beside it so you can order the best wine to suit your starter or main at ease. There is also great selection of wines, beers, champagnes, cavas, proseccos and cocktails. We opted for a bottle of Amaren Blanco, a crisp white Sauvignon with zesty lemongrass and citrus undertones. To go with the steak main a glass of Santalba Ecologico 2012 was a superb pairing. Thanks go to Matty for the recommendation of an ice cold Mojito and Strawberry Daquiri which instantly refreshed us on arrival and the pairing menu for making our wine choices simple to perfectly compliment our fabulous dinner.

FUEL BRASSERIE LOUNGE

If divine food, setting and service isn’t a good enough reason to try Fuel Brasserie, maybe the nightlife will tempt you as Fuel have launched a decadent new evening lounge which hosts guest DJ’s on certain nights throughout summer. The venue opens from 8pm till 2am every Friday and Saturday. The Lounge is definitely a perfect after dinner venue for those looking for a lively, sleek, modern setting to party.

EPIC BEAUTY

BLUNDERS This woman ended up with an orange face that even an Oompa Loompa would probably think was a step too far

Eyebrows on fleek! The combination of a criss cross design and the colour purple certainly made these brows stand out

Theres Something About Mary Grandma springs to mind!

The Kardashians have a lot to answer for! Contouring only works if you blend, blend, blend

School photo gone wrong

Ouch, this is wrong in so many ways

Men can be guilty as charged too

Bold brows! This woman's eyebrows were perhaps a little too much on the striking side

Tan-tastic! If you've ever wondered what happens when you sunbathe in a cut out swimming costume loved by celebs, look no further

Looks like she is using a mirror but how can she be with that result

116 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 30

No false lashes, no problem! An innovative woman drew lines under her eyebrows to make her lashes look longer

Are these the worst beauty faux pas ever? From terrible tanlines to drawn on eyelashes and oompa loompa foundation, these ladies seriously need to invest in lights and mirrors.Â

The angular look: It's anyone's guess as to how this tweezing disaster came about

This woman's nails ended up looking an explosion in a glitter factory

Powdering the nose! IF you apply a translucent dusting, don't forget to blend it in before leaving the house

Expectation VS reality! One beauty fan ended up with charcoal mask stuck to the end of her nose

This woman was left red faced after attempting to remove matte lip gloss with coconut oil

When homemade goes wrong: This woman made her own sheet mask but ended up with a burned face after adding too many mint oils

The craze for nail art has inevitably led to some wacky looks, but this creepy creation was perhaps a step too far

You've been tangoed! It's an age old problem - apply fake tan and end up with orange hands

Purple reign! This woman's indigo brows will certainly make her stand out from the crowd

Nailed it? There's nothing wrong with falsies on the fingers, but the effect does not translate to the toes ISSUE 30 | MARBELLAROCKS 117

If you’ve been spinning those financial wheels - which may have seemed more like a roulette wheel of late, the good news is that the odds finally turn in your favour. Time to get a grip not just on your cash but all other resources at your disposal. That includes your talents and skills and also whatever it is that only you can bring to the party. It’s not about how much you have in your bank account this month - it’s more about how you use it. Direct your resources accordingly and know what you focus on increases - and that includes being broke. Look at areas where you may have been selling yourself short both professionally and personally. Your stock could be about to rise with a shift in how you see both your earning capacity - and yourself. Bank on it.

That feeling someone pushed the ‘repeat’ button or you’ve been stuck in a time loop of ‘same chocolate, different wrapper’ comes to an end and it’s time for a bold new cycle for you. This may mean stepping out of your comfort zone and going for that goal (or person) that either you thought out of your reach or that you’ve been too self-effacing or shy to attempt. Your birthday cycle means you are daring to do and understand what you begin now is setting you up for a cycle of radical changes all designed to get you where you need to be. Nobody said this was going to be comfortable however so let go of routine, regular mealtimes, schedules and how you think things ought to pan out and hang on for the ride of your life. If you let go and trust where you’re being taken, you’ll be glad you did.

118 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 30

Something or someone you thought would be a big part of your future may have ended or lived out recently. The result is you begin this birthday season in a more serious frame of mind but knowing exactly what it is you do - and don’t want to do. Bear in mind that to get what we truly need we have to know what it is in the first place. Lucky for you, you now have that kind of clarity. The year ahead will put you in touch with your personal power and ability to make things happen - in both the boardroom and the bedchamber! You’ll see all too clearly how life is a negotiation and knowing what outcome you want to achieve makes getting yours oh so much easier. You’ll have the ability to attract whatever it is you either love or fear this coming year. Whatever has been thought about by you, finds you so make those thoughts powerful ones. It’s all within you now.

Romance is either heart-stoppingly be all and end all, or you may experience the rose-tinted spectacles being wrenched away exposing - well, that frog. If it’s the latter then think of this as the truth setting you free - to find the real thing next time. Ideas or people that shift your worldview and open you to new experiences feature in the first three weeks of the month. Say ‘Yes!’ to any or all invitations that come your way and above all, when you meet someone - don’t judge a book by its cover. People you encounter could have a surprising role to play in your future and you could also connect to a group in whose company you feel you belong. The final quarter of May could see you withdrawn and contemplating where to go next. See this all as a necessary part of a process which is preparing you for what is still to come.

You’ve no time for the superficial now or for anyone who doesn’t take you seriously. In fact, this month could be all about seeing that all that glitters is not necessarily gold. ‘Fake’ people, reputations and promises may surface and now is the time to ensure your word is very much your bond - no matter how others may behave. Your own reputation may suffer if you do not. Those in positions of power, authority or influence could be watching you to see exactly what it is you are all about. Ensure you don’t just talk a good game - you bring it too. When it comes to love only serious contenders for your heart should be allowed anywhere near the royal bedchamber. You want to be wooed. Lovers need to have ‘made it’ on some level and demonstrate they can commit to something - a course of study, a job, an idea, a plan - before you’ll even give them a chance to commit to you. Get serious about your standards now if you want serious rewards.

Although it may offend your sense of perfection, the universe wants you to understand that sometimes things get messy and there is perfection in that too. So, you may not get exactly what you asked for but consider whether or not it is what you needed instead. Travel or business plans feature but bear in mind you could board a plane for one destination and disembark in another. Trying to control outcomes, results, emotions and above all, other people, will doom you to frustration. As will allowing that alluring new lover’s mess to get in the way of what could truly be an incredible journey. Instead, why not just let things get a little messy and out-ofcontrol for once? It’s a perfectly imperfect time for you to embrace something that’s been missing from your life and this can be anything from a sense of wonder to that person who seems intent on turning your life topsy-turvey. Jump in and get messy, I dare you.

Love or questions around it has been forefront of your mind - more than it is usually recently. This could have involved a past, present or future lover or even an unanswered question. Were you in a situation where something should have happened but somehow failed to ignite? If so, May might just light the fuse for you. Answers related to where you stand just might be forthcoming. Your image and how you come across to others continues to be a focus too. Are you due for an update? When you look in the mirror is it time for a change? It’s time to put yourself out there and see what happens and it’s important to remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Think of this as an investment on every level. What happens when you put yourself out there? Nothing but good things so what are you waiting for Libra.

Life may seem to have its own mysterious direction. Follow those inner nudges as they are designed to bring about discoveries that have the ability to bring about positive change. There’s a touch of magic to all of this. You are being prepared for one of the biggest cycles of opportunity and expansion you have experienced for 12 years - this will begin in October. For now however, it’s all about what’s going on behind the scenes to prepare you for this. You may not only delve deep into what makes you tick, but actually end up in a position of working behind the scenes in an almost invisible fashion. Don’t worry about it if this occurs. It’s not permanent. Keep your head down and understand this is merely a learning and consolidation process. You are destined to emerge from this and out into the spotlight with your efforts recognised. For now to quote Don Draper: Just do the work.

Doors continue to open for you - and perhaps those which you did not go through the first time around. Don’t hesitate to enter them now. You are being given the opportunity to expand your social horizons and mix with an entirely new and interesting group of people. They may also hold the key to you fulfilling a long term goal or dream. Your work, daily routine - or ‘grind’ if you have become to think of it that way, now comes into full focus. It may be that you have taken on a job that either involved more than you thought it would, or has morphed into something else entirely that you did not sign up for. Circumstances or simply allowing the person in charge to suck your life energy from you, may have seen you go along with this arrangement. When it comes to being ‘in charge’ you’re being asked to look at just who is the boss - of your life. The time has come to say ‘No more’. A radical shift towards something much better and more equitable is set to follow.

Feeling old, tired or just like you have taken on too much responsibility? Or simply that you put in 110% and are not seeing anything like that in return? The good news is this is the month where life lightens up again, fun, romance and recognition take centre stage and the theme is all about kicking back and feeling like a kid again. Decisions you have made in the past - and the people from it who have influenced you, continue to impact on the present but this month sees you dropping a burden on some level. Maybe you are the one who took it on in the first place but now you realise all you’ve been carrying is a dead weight. Younger people may feature - your children if you have them and if you’re single don’t be surprised if someone younger than you shows their interest or heads into hot pursuit mode. What all this is saying is that youth is not about age but a state of mind. Your bank account feels the regeneration process too. For you, spring may have arrived late but it’s here at last.

Strange and charmed, up and down, top and bottom - I’m talking about quarks and elementary particles. Quarks have flavours and if you look at all of the above flavours, chances are they all relate to what is going on in your life in some way - and have been for some time. Events may be strange but charmed in that you meet the right person at the right time, things may be good one minute and not-so-good the next, and situations can turn on their head. This is set to continue and success and even love await in areas that are unexpected, unexplored and above all, which call upon you to be yourself and utilise all that is original and unique about you, and only you. Continue to accept all invitations and explore possibilities related to the internet, new living arrangements, innovative business ideas and communication. If individuals connected to any of these areas enter your life this month, they are pivotal in this process. What’s your unique flavour? Be all you can be now.

Although you may not know it, Pisces; you are paving the way for all the other signs to embark on a major shift around how they interact with the material world. Why me, you may ask? Well, you are the soul warriors of the zodiac and the ones most able to grasp theoretical concepts based on spiritual truths. You’re boldly going where no sign has gone before. It’s all about worth, selfworth and what you feel you deserve. Do you know your own worth? This has nothing to do with money but a surety of knowing your true value. Therefore this is less of a material question but more of a spiritual one. However, knowing our true value determines how we get treated in our relationships, how much we get paid and what we expect from life. If you need to upgrade this and show others just what you stand for, now is the time. The result will be improved finances and relationships all around as you attract others with similar values to yours. The other signs are watching. Show them how this is done.

Artist & Event Management

Dominique Laird

Dominique Laird is an international hair and make-up artist based at Golden Tarts super salon in the heart of Puerto Banus. She has styled countless celebrities including Sarah Ashcroft, Denise Van Outen and the cast of TOWIE. Marbella Rocks caught up with her in this exclusive 60 Second interview.

What is it like to style celebrity clients? Being lucky enough to work with top bloggers and celebrities is something I never take for granted. Anyone who puts their face in your hands, shows that they believe in your skill set and trust your professional opinion which is a huge confidence boost. Celebrity or not, I love making people feel good. Everyone is beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoy working on every single one of my fabulous clients. Who was the nicest and who was the worst - and why? Sarah Ashcroft is one of my all time girl crushes. Meeting her was amazing, and finding out she was an absolute babe on the inside just made me love her even more. Not everyone is as friendly….but be warned…..if you speak to me like sh*t I may just give you a mono brow. It's nice to be nice, so keep it together girls. Is it true that hairdressers get to hear all the best gossip? Affairs, secret pregnancies, surgery, feuds…. you name it…. I hear it. But my lips are sealed. My clients put their trust in me and that's the way I like it. A lot of my regulars get a free therapy session with every treatment haha... I like to give my girls a pep talk, like...you got this girl. What’s the juiciest thing you’ve heard? Now that would be telling.... I'm a firm believer in karma and I don't like to get involved in other people's business. Most of the time I have enough drama on my own plate to even bat an eyelid. This world has far too many busy bodies and I'm all about spreading the love... not the gossip.

122 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 30

If you could only take three things to a desert island, what would they be? Brad Pitt, my workout gear and my mum. What´s your greatest achievement so far? When I was 16 I won 7 unconditional scholarships to the best performing arts schools in Britain. That was a pretty big deal. Best advice you’ve ever been given? Love yourself… be kind to others and never take anything for granted. What all our male readers want to know, are you single? I'm at a time in my life where I feel the need to focus on myself. I have so much going on that it leaves little time for relationships. I'm not looking… I'm just not desperate to settle down at the moment. What do you look for in a guy? Tall, dark and handsome. Somewhere in between Wolverine and Thor. I like men to look like men. No ken dolls over here. Funniest pick up line used on you? Men never approach me, I have an invisible 'back off' sign which apparently flashes when I'm within a ten foot radius of any male. Best character trait? I love making others feel good, I'm a mood changer and I love seeing people smile.

Most embarrassing item in your wardrobe? A Justin Beiber T-shirt…. And I bloody love it! Worst habit? Tying my hair up with my underwear and completely forgetting before I leave the house. What did you want to be growing up? I actually wanted to be Michael Jackson… I’m still working on that. Ha ha! I am a professionally trained singer and dancer, MJ was always my biggest inspiration in life. Talent is so attractive, and his music plays a massive part in my everyday life. What do you do to relax? I like yoga, meditation and what girl doesn't love a good pamper. What couldn't you live without? Music. Best thing about living in Spain? Everyone always seems happier in the sun. I like how you can take a stroll along the beach and spend time outdoors without a windshield or a rain Mac. Also let's face facts…. Who doesn't look good with a nice Golden tan. Worst thing? Being too hot in leather pants… no amount of talc will make it comfortable to wear PVC in 30 degree heat. Such a shame…
