Short Term Programs in Guatemala International educational experience is a fundamental part of the learning process in any field. The founders of Americas Educational Programs (AEP) have a track record of providing educational programs at US universities for over 15 years. Because of this experience, AEP emphasizes the global importance of promoting a multicultural understanding history, education, health, and culture using intensive, cuttingedge methods in education. Actually we have 4 courses that can meet your student’s needs to connect their studies with international credits through programs with dense content and high quality standards,

with a ten day of duration -or more, depending on the program

Guatemalan Global Health Program

Program objectives:    

Gain hands-on clinical experience in a rich, intercultural diverse environment. Address outcomes of inter-professional collaboration and collective learning in a community setting. Acquire professional experience in a variety of healthcare disciplines. Expand knowledge of differences from US healthcare and Latin American systems.

Program duration: 10 days Program Activities:  

Community Hospital Clinical Observations in the area of interest and specialization of the student: Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition, psychology, medicine. Visit clinics in rural areas of Antigua Guatemala

Guatemalan Education Program for Teachers

GEPT Language:

English

Student teacher will:     

Become familiar with Guatemalan culture and educational system attending private and public schools Acquire professional teaching experience in an intercultural setting. Acquire knowledge of instructional practices, methodology and learning strategies. Share best practices with local interdisciplinary work teams. Get involved during our PBL planning and week.

Program Activities: Observation stage: Students will visit 3 to 4 different teachers and observe their classes; fill in a SWOT Analysis form which is going to be discussed with the mentor teacher at the end of the class. Assisting stage: Student will be assigned to one teacher and assist him/her by conducting warm ups, teaching parts of the lesson, working with individuals or small groups. Teaching stage: Student will assume total responsibility (planning and teaching) of one group. Interviews with principals, coordinators and fellow teachers to get to know how the school works. Students will also attend career meetings with teachers and coordinators, Learning Communities Meetings (if held during those days) and the Disciplinary and Evaluation Committee Meeting. If required, students may be evaluated during the program with the requirements to observe from the University.

Guatemalan Culture, History and Language

Program description: During this study abroad program, student will examine the culture, language and history of the ancient Mesoamerica. The participants will also learn the history of their art, architecture, political organization and social rules. Students will visit the most iconic Mayan ruins of Tikal, located at the city of Flores Petén, Guatemala. Program objectives: Students will:  Comprehend the cultural diversity of the Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, Mayan civilization.  Recognize and analyze architecture, art and history from the major Mayan culture  Interpret social rules, cultural traditions and signs from Mayan civilization.  Analyze and discuss how various concepts (environment, gender, class, geography, ethnicity, etc.) helped shape the history of the preColumbian civilizations.  Learn how various factors shaped the history of the pre-Columbian civilizations.
