V ICE PR E SI D E NT & FI NA NC IAL ADV IS O R JO INED SF G I N 20 0 5 My wife, Jennifer and I have three great kids – two in college and the youngest is in eighth grade. One thing we all agree on is how much fun we have spending time together as a family! When I was in my early teens, we as a family twice had the opportunity to spend a month in northern Italy outside Bologna where my father had an appointment as a visiting university professor. We of course fell in love with the regional cuisine. I particularly liked this dish, which was and remains my father’s specialty de casa, and when I went to college, my mother appropriately insisted that I know how to make one proper meal (Dutch oven Boy Scout cooking notwithstanding), so this is what dad taught me to make from memory and instinct. Fortunately, it came in mighty handy when I was courting my wife-to-be and needed something to suggest somewhat greater sophistication than the redneck connotations of my rural southwest Virginia hometown and “JT” nickname brought to mind – Success! Our kids also enjoy it and risotto continues to be in regular rotation on “daddy’s dinner night” around our house.
