ITH exactly a month to go before the national elections, IEC KwaZuluNatal electoral officer Mawethu Mosery has urged all political parties to focus on intense political campaigning instead of defaming their opponents. Speaking at a full council meeting last week,Moserysaiditis all systems go for the national elections next month, with 5.1 million registered voters in KwaZuluNatal. “This is a time when all political parties should focus on intense political campaigning through door to door visits.Thereisnotime fordefacingpostersof opposition parties, and blocking them from campaigning in their strong holds. “For any political party to get one seat, it needs at least 63 000 votes,” said Mosery. He further said that 228 voting stations have been set up and beefed up with security in Msunduzi. Voting stations will be open from 7am to 9pm and 600 electoral staff have been trained. He also encouraged deserving citizens to apply for special voting from 7 to 17 April, so that they be given an opportunity to vote from 5 to 7 May. “The list of candidates is available on our website and we are proud to say that for the first time in the province, we have broken a record by reaching five million. We urge councillors and political leaders to promote political tolerance,” he said.

he Oxford Dictionary of English defines drama as an exciting, emotional, or unexpected event or circumstance. Even breathing alone can be a dramatic act, and so are the acts of walking, sleeping, sitting, dancing, talking, interacting, silence and non-action. There can be no story without drama. We all have our own stories to tell. If everyone has a story that can be described as dramatic, how much more about the story of the self-proclaimed creator of the earth who was the Word that becameMan,theLordJesusChrist? Hence, one must necessarily expect a lot of drama in the story of the author of life who graced this Earth in the form of a man they called Jesus Christ. People are interested in drama. If you tell ordinary people a story that is full of philosophical quotes and references, you are more than likely going to lose their interest, unless they are intellectually-inclined. The majority of people are not necessarily interested in philosophical or highly intellectual matters. If you want to tell them something that is philosophical or requires them to think deeply and interpret what they are being told, it must be presented by someone for whom they have respect, look up to or like. The story you are telling must have a clear storyline and be in simplified language, (with more action than talking if it is a film script), failing which you risk not being understood by your reader or audience. Christ uses parables, and his followers are interested in hearing what he has to say, not so much because he is easy to fathom or understand, but because of the person he is, was or always be, as a God in man. Obviously, they would not be interested to hear what he has to say if he is not a healer or helper,

if he does not raise the dead, if he does not heal the sick, walks on sea water, orders the storm and the wind to be quiet, and duplicates food for the multitudes to eat. In the Holy Bible, his disciples want to know why he uses parables when teaching, effectively suggesting that He is risking not beingunderstoodbytheordinary folk. He replies by saying that it does not matter because not many will see heaven after all! But he does explain some of the parables to his would be promoters and these are a useful part of the Holy Bible to explain what the good Lord was saying to us. The story of human life revolves around drama. We are born, we live and we die, or exit the stage of life, and our children andtheirchildren remainbehind to tell the story of our lives. Christ’s story was precisely like that, and even more than that. He was born, he lived, he died, and he was resurrected from the dead. And his followers from different denominations the world over are telling the story of their common master as they seek to emulate him, and be like him and represent him in the Earth. Onecan’tbutcelebratethestoryofthisancientJesuwhoactually cemented his family of Christianfollowersthataretoday spread all over the world, working in different languages and operating within different cultures. I am fascinated by the dramatic events and way of thinking that is promulgated by this Christ who started and sustained this divine mission before and after he had died a physical death on the cross, and buried for three days in accordance with prophesy. Hence he is worshipped, talked about and his representatives are preaching and singing his praises and honour to the glory of his father, the almighty God.

The sides meet in the league match at Harry Gwala stadium on Sunday. While the City of Choice will be playing for a position in the top eight, Abafana Bes’thende are trying to survive relegation into the National First Division.

LL the league games played this weekend will be taken seriously by all the teams involved. Top teams in the summit of the log table will battle it out for the leading position. Others in the middle of the table are likely to start to fight to be in the top eight bracket, while at the bottom the tense scramble to fight against relegation has already started. On Sunday, local fans will be able to watch the relegation haunted Lamontville Golden ArrowsandlocaloutfitMaritzburgUnitedbattle it out at Harry Gwala stadium at 3pm. Obviously, Abafana Bes’thende did not have a good season at all and are still fighting off the relegation tag. Arrows defender, Sobantu-born Siyanda “Jojo” Zwane, believes his team is just unlucky because they are playing well. Arrows PRO Vusumuzi Vilakazi strongly advises the Team of Choice not to undermine his team or be fooled by their current position. “We might be down there but not yet out. We are prepared to fight hard all the way until the last day to avoid the dreaded axe. “We are still positive and believe that we will be able to avoid the chop because we belong to PSL not NFD,”said Vilakazi. Team of Choice publicist Brian Zuma said that the home side will entertain the visitors with respect, but remembering that they are at home and are not prepared to give away anything. “Home games are always important and they motivate us to fight for maximum points. Our home fans are like an extra player for us and push us to do well,” he said. The game that is expected to put the whole country on standstill will be between the log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs and second placed Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday at FNB stadium. - Jerry Barnes
