Insurance is a highly regulated industry and the training needs to be of high quality. We are here to ensure that people in the insurance industry have access to the highest quality development opportunities that can help them improve their performance, as well as raise standards across the sector. We have a strong commitment to learning and development across the entire organisation and we are always looking for new ways of improving our training. The best way to do this is by working with our colleagues at CII, who provide excellent training and qualifications for our staff. When we realised that there was no specific qualification for supervisors in a financial services environment, we approached CII to ask them if they could develop one. As a result, we now have a new qualification — J07: Supervision in a regulated environment — which has been designed and developed by experts from CII and our own staff. This new qualification will enable us to train more people in supervision, which is vital within any organisation. We can also then promote from within, which is good for morale. "I have been working in the insurance industry for over 17 years and have always worked in a regulated environment. I have never had any formal training in this area so felt this was an important qualification for me to pursue. I used to work as a Team Leader, however, I am now a Manager so it was natural for me to take this qualification. I also feel that being qualified enhances my credibility and shows that I am committed to my career.
The most challenging part of the course was learning about all the different supervision roles within our company, including how they fit together and how they report into each other. The best thing about taking this qualification is having the confidence to know that I am doing things correctly and that there are no areas of concern. It is also fantastic for colleagues to see that you are taking an interest in learning more about your role, as it can help motivate them to do the same."
