As one goes through life, through the higher fields of learning, through business, through trials and tribulations, he likes to look back upon and recall his high school associates and activities. What: beHer means has he than his yearbook? What: beHer way has he of recollecting his happier and lighter moments, his chief interests, than his annual? For this reason it: has been the earnest: endeavor of the IQ36 MAROON to record for him in this book a lasting portrayal of his high school days at: Champaign High School.

A few years ago this high school was suffering from various ailments: it had an inadequate gym, overcrowded classes, and poor shop buildings. As is the usual custom, a doct:or and his associates treated the ailments Dr Dallenbach and his fellow members of the school board undertook to cure the maladies. As a result, the school now has one of the finest gyms in the state, an imposing new Junior High School, and shops second to few. Therefore to the members of the school board, we, the staff, dedicate the 1936
MAROON.

As we traverse the corridors of our high school for the last time, our principal interest is in the varying aspects of the building. Within a short time, however, it is evident to us that the greatest object of interest is the students thenselves.
Little of their widely
varying personalities are visible on the surface.
Each possesses his individual qualities,
character, desires, and interests. Amid these varied interests our school is run and regulated with the greatest of care by our school board, principal, vice- principal, faculty and office force.

Among the extra curricular activities the various clubs give their members enjoyable ann profitable periods. The clubs met on alternate Tuesdays during tenth hour the first semester, and ninth hour the second semester. A hobby, whether knitting, music, science, dramatics, swimming or some other phase of pastime as depicted in the following pages is made more interesting by cooperation in a social group. A gain it may be such a diversion as chess, radio, piano, debate, stamp or airplane-clubs which were too camera shy to have their pictures included.

From time immemorial it is through art that man has interpreted and recorded the higher things of his life. So it is in the fine arts that the student finds an opportunity to express his innermost aspirations and thoughts.
In
dramatics, he may become another individual behind the footlights; in publications he records the deeds of his fellow students not only for today but for tomorrow; in music he may find self expression, and an outlet for originality, and something which is soothing after the staccato activity of the other arts.
