It may have been tn gr,wdfath r's period, or p rhap at a day when onl • th olde t of current dads can remember. but orne time long, long ago-a handful of Champaign high school students felt the urge to organiz a band to entertain at athletic conte t . And o with all of the enthu ta m of youth, ix young fellows who had a bit of exp rienc with horn and drums-and a eventh who could play a banjo pooled their tal nt ,1nd claimed the distinc tion of being the fir t trictly school band in the ctty. It 1 a long road from the pa t to the pre ent band manly p aking but the arne old urge hangs on-budding musician till want to entertain at game . And now numbering ntnety or more, and with eager replacements coming up from the elementary and junior high school . there is little reason to doubt but wh.H a CHS band wtll continue to play in the ye.u to come.
