Music Reviews

The Kooks

British indie-pop band The Kooks is experimenting with a variety of music genres in their fourth studio album, Listen, out September 1. The band’s front man, Luke Pritchard, made the decision to hire hip-hop producer Inflo because of a mutual desire to “get out of the bull%&*” of the “institutionalized” music industry.

Album:

The Kook’s first single off the new album, “Down,” features hip-hop beats and sassy lyrics such as “you can’t break a man that’s already down”, in which the band seems to uncannily relish in feeling down. Songs on The Kook’s last record, Junk of the Heart, have more lighthearted lyrics but are more shallow than Listen. Lyrics aside, the band maintains their upbeat guitar riffs with bold vocal changes found in early hits like “Naïve.”

Listen

Release Date: Sept. 1, 2014

Recommended Tracks: Down Hold On Melody Maker

By Laura Nauman

The four-piece tinker with jazzy, elevator music, and Maroon 5ish pop music in the track “Hold On.” The Kook’s use of string instruments give the track depth and coordinate well with lyrics. Pritchard puts his vocal chops on display by adjusting his naturally loud voice to a lower volume, which works better with the new instruments. The crowning jewel of Listen is “Melody Maker.” The group’s use of “percussion sonnets” is one of the key elements that makes Listen stand out.

Bradand Paisley Brad Paisley King Nation Garth Brooks Album: Spaces

SIngle: People Loving People

Release Date: April 1, 2014

Release Date: Sept. 9, 2014

By Laura Nauman College Station based indie rock band, King and Nation, released their first EP, Spaces, earlier this year. The five-piece perfectly captures the aural time span between early 2000s punk and the melodic indie made popular today. Deeply emotional lyrics, such as “drinking alone just to slow down the feeling” in the track “Overdue”, give the band depth and intensity. Singer Frank Miller’s sometimes somber lyrics are balanced by a smooth, low-key delivery, and articulate drum beats carry listeners from track to track without skipping a beat. There’s a hint of folk/ country in Spaces that makes an appearance via harmonica and in subject matter from songs such as “Waylon Jennings”. The band is known for dynamic live shows locally, and Maroon Weekly recently released a Live @ Maroon Weekly session of them performing a song called “Matter of Time”--a song that captures a new direction the band is taking musically.

By Laura Nauman Country icon Garth Brooks is releasing his first single in seven years, “People Loving People,” on September 3. The song is a stripped-down version of “We Shall Be Free” from his 1992 album, The Chase.

BradInterpol Paisley Single: El Pintor Release Date: Sept. 9, 2014 By Kate Williams Interpol, the indie-punk band from New York, released their fifth studio album, El Pintor, on September 9 as a group of three instead of four. Front man Paul Banks adopts the bassist role and takes a more streamlined approach in tracks like “All the Rage Back Home.”

Brooks trades in a jazzy piano and spirited gospel choir for drums and a couple guitars. Since his answer to peace is the title of the track itself, Brooks’ message is as simple as his instruments, and his warm, soulful voice gives no reason to complicate things.

The consistency and high volume of Banks’ bass line allows him to back off to emphasize his lyrics. The follow-up single to “All the Rage Back Home” is “Ancient Ways,” where the group continues to operate at high, angsty volume.

Although fans should not expect Brooks’ new album until late November, he is kicking off a world-tour in Chicago on September 4.

Interpol still establishes an impressive variety in their music after moving to a smaller format and after a fouryear hiatus.

Kyle Park Headlines HURRICANE HARRY’S The “Somebody’s Trying to Steal My Heart” singer will be back at Hurricane Harry’s September 17 at 9pm, and the performance will make for a fun weekend, as Kyle Park will be singing all his country classics for a special acoustic set. Park has toured all over the U.S., some parts of Europe, and even Alaska, promoting his brand of Texas country around the globe. But even Park says himself that there is nothing like playing in Texas. In fact, in a past interview with Maroon Weekly, Park said “[Texas] is all I know at this point. It’s home. It’s where I’m from and it’s the reason I’m able to do what I do.” From owning his own record label, to writing side by side with artists like Josh Abbot and Cody Johnson, Park has a lot to be proud of. When he released his first album, Big Time in 2005, his music spread rapidly throughout Texas and, with new album releases yearly, his sound has spread across the nation. Instead of riding down the road, windows down, Kyle Park blaring out your speakers, get the full experience Saturday night at Harry’s. To purchase tickets visit: harrys.bcsclubs.com.

Swiping for Love in All the Wrong Places:

The popular dating app, Tinder, is now used by over 10 million people daily. When it was first released in September of 2012, critics proclaimed that romance was dead. It was argued that the app's matching method— based primarily on a person's appearance and succinct bio—was taking the flowers and candy out of dating. As the Guardian's Harriet Walker said, with Tinder “there's the inevitable superficiality that comes of choosing someone based on their profile picture rather than their personality.” Defenders of the app, on the other hand, didn't see it that way. They argued, “Isn't initial, physical attraction—like spotting someone at a bar—always the first arrow from Cupid's quiver?”

5 Aggies Confess Their Tinder Dating Experiences

Everyone has their own reasons for using Tinder, as you'll see from reading the confessions in this week's story. When it was first launched, the app's name had a pejorative tinge associated with it; Tinder was synonymous with last-call prowling and hookups. But in the past year, more and more people are reporting they're using Tinder to find relationships. Some even claim they use Tinder to make friends (albeit on an app completely gauged for dating). If you're not one of the over 10 million people currently swiping for love, this is how Tinder works. After you download the app and open it for the first time, it pins your location via GPS and then uses your Facebook information (you must have a FB account to sign up) to create your profile (your FB friends are never notified that you're using the app). Your Tinder profile is then automatically crafted by the application to include your first name, age, and photos. You can write a short bio—complete with emojis for emphasis—and say a little about yourself and what you're looking for. Tinder then searches for matches near you (you narrow the search down by setting parameters for age and distance). When the search is complete, your screen fills with an image of a person meeting your age, sex, and distance requirements. You get to read information they've written about themselves (“I like cats.” “I'm only here to meet friends first, then...maybe something more.” “Must be an Aggie or I swipe left! WHOOP!”). Tinder also displays mutual friends you and your potential mate share in common, a feature that takes a lot of the app's anonymity and throws it down the virtual toilet. Now is where it gets fun: you swipe each person's face either to the left (“Nope”) or right (“Liked”). If you and a potential match both swipe right, then you're both notified of a “match.” Now this is where it gets more fun. From there, you have to initiate conversation. Pick-up lines are common, but—really—anything goes. We interviewed five Aggies and asked them to relate their Tinder experiences to us. As you would expect, we're protecting their identities with pseudonyms. Prepare your laughing muscles: These are completely true and, some of them, absurd.

pg 6 • MAROON WEEKLY • Sept. 10, 2014 • maroonweekly.com

Billy Boozer Age 22 I put off downloading Tinder for a long time because I thought it was stupid, but I gave in after a couple months. One of my friends had it and was talking to this super babe because of it. That’s when I was like, “Okay. I guess I’ll give it a shot.” I use it a lot, especially when I'm bored. The fact that Tinder is so shallow makes me feel superior in a way. I like that about it. I went out with a girl I met on Tinder last week. It was hilarious because she wouldn't let me pay for her drinks and, to be honest, I got really drunk. She came back to my place after and tried to like…get it. I told her no because I was way too tired… and intoxicated. There was another girl who didn't talk to me nearly the entire night. She got really drunk and really annoying. Through the experiences I’ve had, I feel like Tinder girls just want to meet up and get trashed. I've sort of got a lady now, so I've kind of been straying away from the app. But it's always fun to judge people based on appearance!

NOPE

Smooth Criminal Age 21

When my sister started using Tinder to try to meet guys, I automatically asked, “What the heck is that?” I thought it was weird to use an app solely based off of looks to try to find a match. But before I knew it, I gave in; Tinder was on my phone. When I started using it, I said no to everyone. I’m picky.

One time, in particular, I met a girl who was gorgeous. We had great conversations and our chats moved from Tinder to phone calls. After a week or so, we decided to meet in person. Well, long story short...she ended up being a felon. Apparently, she was on the run from her hometown because she was caught stealing. She told me she was running from the cops and would train-hop to make her escapes. To top it all off, she was also very homeless. In that moment, two thoughts crossed my mind: Should I run? If she’s homeless… how does she have a cell phone? I got coffee with her, and she seemed like a nice girl, shoplifting aside. Not many people can say they’ve had a casual coffee date with a homeless criminal.

Vicarious Victor Age 22 I got introduced to the app while working on an indie film in LA. The app was a big part of the script, which followed 3 single guys in their 30s trying to find love. For men, Tinder is used strictly as a way to hook up. To be honest, men swipe right for the same reason they would hit on a girl at a party or ask a girl out—because they want to hookup.

Awkward Annie Age 19 Every interesting situation comes as a result of two things: having nothing to do and alcohol. Mid-laugh, my tipsy roommate asks, “Hey, have you ever heard of an app called Tinder?” Two glasses of wine later, I not only downloaded the app but had swiped right to dozens of guys. The more I drank, the more attractive each guy became. My heart was fleeting, falling in love with fraternity guys and all of their hot buddies, only to swoon for the sensitive looking musicians, lost in their music, their pictures captured mid guitar strum. Tinder became an every day thing for me. The high I got from chatting with dudes I’d never met before made me feel confident. They called me beautiful, said I was smart, and made me feel wanted. It was exciting to say things via text that I would never have the courage to tell a guy to his face. I was leading a double life: college girl by day, confident Tinder girl by night. Then, things started getting weird. One day, while I was casually strolling over to class like any other normal day, I saw one of my Tinder boys. One of the many men that I had fallen in love with was walking towards me and I had no idea what to do. Do I say hi? Should I nonchalantly wave? Is my hair okay? Does he even recognize me? We talk every day. Why am I this nervous?! So what did my Tinder-confident self do? I shrugged my shoulders, looked down at the pavement, and walked briskly past him. I was mortified. That day, I chose to delete the app. Running into another Tinder boy would be a nightmare. However, since the incident, I’ve spotted at least five other guys from good ole Tinder and the embarrassment doesn’t get any easier.

The best Tinder stories I have involve my two roommates, who both have MAD Tinder game. One of them is a tall, blonde dude who only likes Asian girls. He chats ‘em up real casual and then asks them if they want a good, old fashioned… well you get the picture. He usually gets blocked after throwing down his game, and we have a good laugh. My other roommate is nerdy with no self-confidence. He uses Tinder as a way to find his future wife. He goes on tons of awkward first dates with ugly girls that go nowhere. He does, however, randomly get a decent hookup out of it on occasion. I used Tinder as a way to try and have emotionless, detached hookups. However, my intense lack of douchery never allowed that to happen. I chatted with a few girls, got bored, and didn’t respond.

Wendy Without Provocation Age 20 This is a verbatim dialogue that occurred as a result of not answering this guy’s initial message to me. The text below is exactly as it appears on my phone, no omissions. I wasn’t intentionally ignoring him; I was just busy that day. HIM: August 7, 2014, 9:15am [FIRST MESSAGE] [Expletive], you’re too far away and too freaking cute. This is a tragedy. August 7, 2014, 4:40pm [SECOND MESSAGE] Red flags that you’re a basic Tinder attention [expletive]: using tinder on a road trip (my range definitely isn’t 80 miles, so there’s no way we matched), unwarranted sass, and proclamation of inflated expectations /standards, and the nail in the coffin is you’re blatantly fishing for Instagram followers. ME: You are such a charmer. HIM: Sarcastic people tend to be the most honest. Oh, and just for the record, I do have abs and excellent conversation-holding abilities; I’m just not sure you deserve them. ME: Oh no. Whatever shall I do? HIM: Nothing, because I also know you have legions of thirsty dudes vying for your attention. ME: You caught me! Dang it. My plot has been foiled. HIM: Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, just FYI. I only feature it on my bio because most girls are dumb and can’t handle anything more complex. And for the fact that I’m trolling most of their own bios. ME: As lovely as this conversation is… I’m going to stop wasting my time. But this was fun! We should totally never do this again. Ever.

Flirty feline at center of neighborhood custody battle NEW ZEALAND — He comes, he goes. Sometimes he shows up late for dinner, sometimes he shows up five years late. Sure, humans can cheat. But can a cat?

Desert solar plant scorching birds into smoking ‘streamers’

Ming is not a cheating boyfriend, but he is a two-timing Siamese cat who is at the center of a custody battle between two New Zealand neighbors. The Alexander family began noticing things go fishy when Ming would go wandering and not return home hungry for dinner. Then he went missing for a whole five years, only to return home meowing as if nothing ever happened. After some investigation, the Alexanders discovered that Ming had been living next door as “Cleo” with the Smiths. Now, after years of traveling and moving homes, the 15-year-old cat has coughed up a huge hairball on the two families who can’t decide who has the rights to take him home for good.

Gecko space mission ends in lovers’ tragedy RUSSIA — Five lewd lizards were sent into space to study the effect of microgravity on geckos’ sex lives, but, sadly, no lizard lived to do the deed another day. As participants in the study, the specimen set off on their journey on July 19 for Russian scientists to test the effects of weightlessness on reproduction. But the scientists confirmed on Sept. 1 that all five geckos on board the satellite had died after their capsule successfully touched down in Russia earlier that day. However, scientists also reported there was a happy ending for a group of Drosophila flies in the study: They were able to breed and reproduce without dying.

Domestication By Katie Lea

One often-overlooked feat accomplished by the human race is the domestication of various animal species. For thousands of years, humans have been influencing the way certain animals breed, determining which traits should be passed on based upon their desirability. A famous example is man’s best friend. While domestication most likely occurred naturally through interactions with humans, modern breeds have formed after humans took an active role in breeding. Today, there are hundreds of breeds ranging from the massive Great Dane to the Paris- Hilton Chihuahua. The dog presents a complicated case when trying to determine exactly how they

were domesticated – progression spans too far back to pinpoint an exact time of domestication. Rabbits, on the other hand, are a perfect specimen – we know exactly where and when their domestication began. The rabbit is related to the wild hare, said to have been domesticated around 1,400 years ago in Southern France. The rabbit’s wilder cousins still populate the area, which allowed scientists Miguel Carneiro and Leif Andersson to collect genetic samples from both tame and undomesticated rabbits in the region. Because of this, they were able to better examine what changes occurred during the domestication process. A scholar

IVANPAH DRY LAKE, Calif. — In the Mojave Dessert, birds brave enough to fly above a state-of-the-art solar plant have a special name to employees. The concentrated sunrays can cause the birds to ignite midair, sending what they call “streamers” down in a smoky spiral. After a visit to the BrightSource Energy plant last year, and noting an average of one “streamer” every two minutes, federal wildlife investigators are urging state officials to halt applications to build an even bigger version of the $2.2 billion facility. The investigators want to continue the halt until the extent of the deaths can be fully assessed. As of now, estimates of the scorched birds range from BrightSource’s 1,000 to a 28,000 estimate by an expert with the Center for Biological Diversity.

of genomic and molecular study of domestic animals and faculty fellow at Texas A&M, Andersson says it’s not “drastic changes in a few genes” that resulted in domestication but rather “small changes in many genes”. To go into greater detail, Miguel Carneiro of the University of Porto says “the difference between a wild and tame rabbit is not which genes they carry, but how their genes are regulated”, or in other words, “when and how much of each gene is used in different cells”. It’s likely that the discoveries made in this study will lead to insights on how domestication occurred in numerous other species, possibly influencing how we domesticate future species.

Handsome Texans Invade Rudder!

By Eunice De Luna With three previous successful dinners, The Village will be hosting their fourth Craft Beer Dinner on Friday, September 12 at 6:30pm. They will offer four courses, each carefully paired with one of No Label’s craft beers.

The epic conclusion of Ken Follett’s Century trilogy, Edge of Eternity, focuses on the lives of five families whose stories intertwine. These families--American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh--face two difficult decades, spanning the ‘60s through the ‘80s. For characters in Follett’s finale, life happens at an alarming speed. His characters differ not only by nationality but also in social class, which lends readers layered, multifaceted points of view and truthful, authentic accounts of the events transpiring over the decades. Follett’s researched novels take the audience back in time to see life through many different lenses. The final installment to the Century trilogy is to be released on September 16, 2014.

Over 100 million people fell for these handsome tenors from the Lone Star State when they dominated NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” in 2009. Their one-night-only opening concert will feature their unique blend of country, gospel, classical, and Broadway. See pics @thetexastenors.#handsometexans

Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas

Downtown Bryan is hosting its annual Patrias Mexicanas festival this upcoming weekend. The festival will celebrate Mexican Independence Day with authentic Mexican food, a parade, and performances by the Aggie Band. The excitement begins Saturday, September 13 at 6pm with a cultural event located at the Palace Theater commemorating members of the Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas organization.

“The main goal of the event is to celebrate the Independence of Mexico and to instill the culture,” says Amy Villarreal, program director of 15 years. “It will be very lively and animated because we have mariachi bands performing and the crown coronation of the King and Queen.”

says Roy Lopez, a Bryan native and Texas A&M academic adviser class of ’82.

On Sunday, there will be a parade beginning at 12pm on William J. Bryan Street.

“We give scholarships to students and to teachers to help further their educations,” Villarreal said. “We have an endorsement with Blinn College and we are sending kids to not only college but into technical fields as well,” Lopez said. “Every dime that we make goes back to the community. The more educated our kids are, the better our community is.”

“This year we will have the Fighting Texas Aggie Band led by General Joe Ramirez,” Villarreal said. “We have a lot of community elementary schools from College Station and Bryan marching in the parade and singing the national anthem. Prizes are also given out to the best float.” A grand festival follows the parade, with activities such as a petting zoo, games, and mechanical bull rides. “I'm excited about the raffles this year,” Villarreal said. “High school organizations have dunking booths, free pony rides; the health science students will be giving health assessments, and non-profit organizations will have resource booths.” The founders of the non-profit, Mr. Roy Lopez and his father, Mr. Emilio Lopez Sr., started the organization in 1990. “I would like to thank Texas A&M University and Joe Ramirez and all of the volunteers that made the event possible,”

The event caters to the entire community and is meant to showcase both students and teachers.

Lopez is passionate about education and Hispanic culture, and feels that it is the heartbeat of Bryan/College Station. “I think it’s important that Bryan/College Station realizes how diverse our culture is,” says Lopez. “That’s how a community gets better and becomes strong; you need to understand the people that live here.” Lopez feels that Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas provides a unique opportunity for the young people of this area to grasp their heritage. “Today, with technology, kids have everything they need in the palm of their hands,” says Lopez. “One thing that can’t be taught through technology is who they are and where they come from.”

Basetrack and Anne Hamburger By Kate Williams Acclaimed director Anne Hamburger and award-winning theater company En Garde Arts team up with the public charity November Eleven to bring you Basetrack:, an experimental media project. Two actors will perform verbatim texts of real Marine corpsmen followed by a raw representation of war through photos and video of the modern military experience. Basetrack is the work of many professional photographers and journalists who have worked for publications such as National Geographic and New York Times. The photojournalists were embedded in the Marine 1/8 division in Helmand, Afghanistan to accurately document the world’s longest war. They attempt to paint a true picture of Marines during deployment, while also capturing the essence of their family’s reactions back home. Basetrack includes interviews with soldiers sharing their experience in the Middle East after they have returned to the US. The purpose of Basetrack is to raise awareness and illustrate the struggle of veterans returning from war as they attempt to achieve normalcy. The goal is to record historical accounts of the war to show future generations. Basetrack’s forward team works to connect over a thousand Marines and Corpsmen to their families, meanwhile, allowing the home front to gain a better understanding of the War on Terror. A 2010 News Challenge Grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation funded the independent media project, and it is not owned or operated by any wing of the government or the U.S. Marine Corps. The video and content are the open opinions of the individuals and not the institutions that they represent. Shows will take place September 17 and 18 at Rudder Theatre from 7-9pm. Tickets are available online on the Visual and Performing Arts website or at the MSC Box Office. Prices range from $5 for students and $10 for the public.

The Ledge Netflix (R) In The Ledge, directed by Matthew Chapman, the film’s protagonist, Gavin, is faced with a moral dilemma. As an Atheist, Gavin doesn’t believe in an afterlife; but if he is unwilling to die for his beliefs, the woman he loves will be taken instead.

When the Game Stands Tall Sports Action (PG) When the Game Stands Tall is another football movie. It could be Remember the Titans, We Are Marshall, Friday Night Lights, Invincible, and you know what, let’s throw in The Waterboy. Because why not? Of course, the content is a little different – the film focuses on the De LaSalle football team from California who had a 151-game winning streak – the longest in football history. The film focuses on the rebuilding of the team after the streak is lost. It’s a strange sort of underdog story. De LaSalle was never an underdog – they had an amazing team. But one loss knocked them from their pedestal. Even after breaking their winning streak, De LaSalle was great; but they had to learn what it meant to be a team, and their bond turned them into brothers. (Sound like any other football movie?) There’s some heavy issues anchoring the film’s tension – one of the players is the coach’s son; a former teammate gets murdered the day before he’s supposed to go to college; and the coach suffers a heart attack. All of the obstacles help build the team to their former glory while learning valuable lessons about what’s really important. When the Game Stands Tall isn’t a bad movie; the writing is done well and the actors do a fine job. It just isn’t original. But it’s about football, so who cares?! The film is 101 minutes long and rated PG for thematic material, a violent scene, and brief smoking.

Gavin (Charlie Hunnam, Sons of Anarchy) appears to be the typical nice guy. He works as an assistant manager at a hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; he’s empathetic to his employees and has a gay roommate who’s just recently tested positive for HIV. But when a new couple moves into his apartment complex just a few doors down, things get out of hand. Husband and wife, Joe and Shana Harris (played by Patrick Wilson and Liv Tyler), are God-fearing to a T. Joe Harris is the main aggressor while Shana is demure and quiet, constantly showing gratitude towards her husband even though it’s clear she has no say in their marriage. When Shana begins to work at Gavin’s hotel, the lust between the two heats up the screen. While the premise of the film is interesting, it’s plagued by poor screenwriting. The movie highlights the age-old ideological schism between Christianity and Atheism. The Christian (Joe) is a bigot, completely misrepresenting the essence of his faith. The Atheist (Gavin), however, is a kind person, feeling secure in the nothingness that lies ahead when he dies. The actors do a good job with what they have, but the dialogue isn’t organic in some crucial scenes and the interactions between characters seem forced at times. One redeeming thing in this film is that it doesn’t give the audience a “light at the end of the tunnel” conclusion. There are too many movies that give viewers what they want. The Ledge will knock the wind out of you, but it’s still somewhat refreshing. The Ledge is 101 minutes long and rated R for sexuality, language, and some violent content.

Stopping the Run is Key to Aggie Success on the Gridiron a hu

J By The rush defense starts with the front four. They finished #119 in the country last year, giving up 222.3 yards per game and an average of 5.4 yards a carry. If the Aggies are to be serious contenders in the SEC this year, then they will have to greatly improve on that mark. The Aggies struggled with depth and injuries last year and started true freshman Isiah Golden, Hardreck Walker, Daeshon Hall, and Jay Arnold during the year. The young men struggled but got some valuable playing time. Walker and Hall started in the opener and will rotate with true freshman Zaycoven Henderson and Myles Garrett. Garrett and Henderson, unlike the true freshman last year, came physically ready to play and have held their positions so far. Arnold has become a jack-of-all-trades, as he will back up at both the defensive end and tackle position. Golden has since been kicked off the team. They had a good showing against South Carolina, allowing only 67 yards and holding All-SEC RB Mike Davis to just 15 yards. They will have to string together more good showings if they want to win the West. Last year, SEC

West Champion Auburn rolled through Kyle Field and rushed for 379 yards. LSU had 324 yards on the ground, while Mississippi State went for 299 yards and Alabama added 234. All of them averaged six yards a carry. If the Aggies want to continue to prove the doubters wrong this year, the defensive line will have to stop the run.

Aggie Soccer on a Roll The Aggie soccer team continues to roll through their non-conference schedule, jumping in the rankings to #7 after starting #9. Senior Kelly Monogue was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week for her play in the last weekend in August. She registered three

goals and two assists as the Aggies beat #18 UCF and Illinois State. She was also named the Offensive Player of the Week for the SEC that same week. Senior defender Meghan Streight was selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS (Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School) award for soccer. The award is just as much for her hard work and dedication in the classroom as it is for her skill on the soccer field. Volleyball Must Fix Road Woes After winning the Texas A&M Invitational with wins over Iowa and Tulane, the Aggie Volleyball team will take to the road over the next two weeks as they participate in two tournaments. Games away from Reed Arena were tricky for A&M last season as they finished just 11-8 in road or neutral site games. With a brutal SEC road schedule ahead, the Aggies must find their way on the road if they want another visit to the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore Jazzmin Babers made her way into the records book early this season with 13 career block assists, the most in A&M history. Babers 14 total blocks ties for second all-time.
