Introduction
Client Our clients are a couple in their thirties with a young child who is about to start primary school. They will most likely remain a single child family and hope that he will continue to live with them as he grows up. Their small dog also resides with the family. The couple are keen to entertain at home and have creative and sporting interests. They enjoy an urban lifestyle and now also require a work from home space due to recent changes. They have a few treasured items which include a chair, a mirror and artwork which needs to be integrated into the design. These pieces represent their interest in Australian, local and sustainable design.
Site The site is located at 95 Sutherland Street, Paddington, Sydney. It was built in 1890 and sits in a row of matching Victorian terraces which is typical of the area. The site has gone through numerous owners, renovations and upgrades. Since 2014, the terrace has not changed and this is the current design plans we will be working with. The location and age of the building requires careful consideration of heritage and restrictions as well as our own responsibilities when working with historic design.
They are looking for a space where light is considered, where there is a key relationship between the interior and exterior. The design needs to function around the central staircase which connects the multiple levels. Sustainable sourcing is important to

Key Takeaways The ecclectic and colourful yet not overwhelming design by Fieldwork is my main inspiration. Wood materiality and the curvature of the furniture is something I will use in my design. I will feature a lot of custom curved design.
Rose Street Residence is a 6m wide terrace which resides one of the back streets of Melbourne’s inner-city suburb of Fitzroy. Design Statement CONCEPT
MOOD BOARD
The Revival House “a 70s revival house with a chic cafe vibe and an art gallery aesthetic” Reviving the 70s style of wood, warm oranges and custom made furniture and fixtures and reviving preloved materials and vintage pieces, The Revival House is an ecclectic mix of textures inspired by the Australian landscape and the local Paddington area. It is in essence retro scandi meets modern contemporary Australian design.
DESIGN CRITERIA Program The terrace will contain an open living and dining, a kitchen and guest bath. The ground floow will lead out into an outdoor entertainment garden area. The first floor will have the master bedroom, walk in robe and ensuite. The kids bedroom, second bathroom and laundry will be on the same level. The attic will be utilised as a work/ study space and the basement will be turned into a media/storage room allowing for flexibility. Spatial Planning The storage will be kept in the basement for items not needed everyday. The main usable areas for entertaining will be on the ground floor. Private areas are on the first floor and the laundry will be moved here also to be close to the bedrooms. Materiality Timber look tiles will be used for durability and cleaning. Wood veneers will be used for cabinetry and coloured glass windows will be used to let light in. Natural stones such as travertine and marble will be used for hard surfaces. Carpet will be used in bedrooms for comfort. Detailing Brass detailing will be used throughout except for the front staircase which will use black matt metal in correspondence with the glass and metal balustrade. CONCLUSION The Revival House was designed for a modern, eclectic, active family. Sustainability, connectdness to the outside with smooth transitions and custom built spaces were all considered. Love of textures, colours and contemporary art combined with historic architectural features and antique peices give the home a wonderful character which is both quintessential yet unique to the area. Revivng older styles and vintage pieces in a truly modern Australian way.
