THE JAYHAWKS: CLÁSICOS CONTEMPORÁNEOS THE JAYHAWKS: CONTEMPORARY CLASSICS — Existe consenso en señalar a The Jayhawks como impulsores del tránsito que abarca de Uncle Tupelo a Wilco. Es decir, como la pieza clave para interpretar la evolución del género en los últimos treinta años.

A mediados de los años ochenta los ecos del punk rock todavía resonaban en la trastienda underground norteamericana. The Blasters y Jason And The Scorchers electrificaron el country y bandas como Long Ryders, Green On Red y Violent Femmes lo condujeron al redil del Nuevo Rock Americano. Un movimiento que, según sus protagonistas, nunca existió como tal, pero que aglutinó a un rebaño de bandas que sentaría las bases de lo que hoy conocemos como Americana. En lo que sí existe consenso es en señalar a The Jayhawks como impulsores del tránsito que abarca de Uncle Tupelo a Wilco. Es decir, como la pieza clave para interpretar la evolución del género en los últimos treinta años. El momento más decisivo llegó cuando Mark Olson se despedía para cuidar de su esposa enferma, la cantautora Victoria Williams, con quien más tarde grabaría un par de discos realmente estupendos. Muchos pensaron que con él decían adiós al mejor

grupo de folk norteamericano de los noventa, que nada volvería a ser lo mismo. Y no lo fue, pero su renuncia sacó a relucir el liderazgo indiscutible de Gary Louris: “No crecí con el country o blues, lo hice escuchando rock británico. Creo que todos en la banda lo hicieron. El componente pop siempre estuvo presente aunque en un segundo plano”. Hasta que protagonizó “Sound of lies” (1997) y aportó una bocanada de aire fresco con canciones como Big Star, It’s up to you o The man who loved life. Aparcaron los discos de Flying Burrito Brothers y Gram Parsons y se volcaron en los de Alex Chilton y Nick Drake. “Seguíamos sin triunfar comercialmente pero disfrutábamos de la libertad para hacer lo que nos gustaba y eso nos hacía felices”, reconoce Louris. Tal vez por eso sus canciones se volvieron más brillantes, pero sin perder de vista la seña de identidad de la banda: la melancolía. Su gran apuesta llegó con “Smile” (2000), posiblemente su álbum más opti-

mista y accesible, que consolidarían con el aplaudido “Rainy Day Music” (2003). Entre ambos suman algunas de las cimas más memorables de su carrera (I’m gonna make you love me, What led me to this town, Save it for a rainy day) sin necesidad de verse reflejados en las listas de éxitos. Coincidiendo con la reedición de su discografía en vinilo, The Jayhawks han vuelto a salir a la carretera para defender estos tres discos. Y lo hacen sin atisbo de nostalgia, por el mero placer de volver a hacerlo. “Cuando era joven soñaba con ser una estrella”, confiesa Louris, “pero ahora, al echar la vista atrás, me siento muy orgulloso de aquellas canciones. In the mid-eighties punk rock still echoed in the in American underground backroom. The Blasters and Jason And The Scorchers electrified the country and bands such as Long Ryders, Green On Red and Violent Femmes led him into the fold of the New American Rock. A movement that, according to those involved, never existed as such, but which brought together a flock of bands that would lay the foundation for what is now known as Americana. But they agree on pointing The Jayhwaks as drivers of the transition comprising Uncle Tupelo to Wilco. That is, the linchpin to interpret the evolution of the genre in the last thirty years. The turning point came when Mark Olson said goodbye in order to take care of his sick wife, the singersongwriter Victoria Williams, with who he would later record a couple of really great albums. Many thought that with him, they said goodbye to the best band of American folk of the nineties, that nothing would ever be the same. And it was not, but his resignation brought up the undisputed leadership of Gary Louris, "I did not grow up with country or blues, I did listening to British rock. I think everyone in the band did. The pop component was always present even in the background". Until he starred "Sound of Lies" (1997) and provided a breath of fresh air with songs like Big Star, It's up to you or The

man who loved life. They pushed aside the albums of Flying Burrito Brothers and Gram Parsons and they fall over Alex Chilton and Nick Drake. "We were still not commercially successful but enjoying the freedom of doing what we liked and that made us happy," Louris says. Maybe that’s why his songs became brighter, but without losing sight of the hallmark of the band: the melancholy. Their big bet came with "Smile" (2000), possibly their most optimistic and accessible album, which would be consolidated with the acclaimed "Rainy Day Music" (2003). They both have some of the most memorable achievements of their career (I’m gonna make you love me, What led me to this town, Save it for a rainy day) without being reflected in the hit parade. Coinciding with the reissue of their discography on vinyl, The Jayhawks have again hit the road to defend these three albums. And they do it with no hint of nostalgia, for the pleasure of doing it again. "When I was young I dreamed of being a star," says Louris, "but now, looking back, I feel very proud of these songs. ELI “PAPERBOY” REED REGRESA AL 2004 ELI "PAPERBOY" REED RETURNS TO 2004

Mientras esta casa comenzaba su andadura empresarial en 2004 al otro lado del charco un veinteañero, blanco y de Massachussets llamado Eli “Paperboy” Reed se metía en un sótano de Boston con dos amigos para grabar 17 canciones que habían tocado en directo por los clubes de los alrededores de la ciudad. De aquella sesión que combinaba clásicos del Downhome Blues, R&B y Soul escogería 12 temas que compondrían su primer largo titulado “Eli "Paperboy" Reed Sings "Walkin' and Talkin" (For My Baby) and Other Smash Hits” que editó 1.000 copias solo en Cd financiado con la ayuda de sus padres y que vendió al final de sus conciertos. Se agotaron en pocos meses y eran algo buscado por los coleccionistas.

Diez años, otros tres álbumes y centenares conciertos después ya es una estrella que puede hacer casi lo que le plazca. Ha decidido recuperar esa esencia inicial editando exclusivamente en vinilo dicho álbum y programando una gira acompañado del bajista Jake Leckie y del batería Eli Keszler, también estrellas consagradas ahora, que participaron en dicha sesión. La gira de Eli “Paperboy” Reed en formato trío visitará España en marzo con directos el 6 en Burgos, el 7 en Gijón, el 8 en la sala Capitol de Santiago de Compostela, el 9 en el Teatro Quintero de Sevilla (que debutará como sala SON Estrella Galicia), el 10 en El Sol de Madrid (SON Estrella Galicia), el 12 en Murcia, el 13 en Valencia y el 14 en Girona.

Arranca el año y con él arranca SONAR, el mayor festival de festivales de la música electrónica y avanzada del panorama internacional. Desde sus inicios, en 1994, SONAR se ha convertido en santo y seña de los festivales más punteros, y con Barcelona como punto de partida, se ha extendido en el espacio y el tiempo con el paso de sus ediciones, tanto a lo largo del mundo, como del calendario. Y es que fue exactamente el pasado Diciembre, cuando SONAR despedía 2014 desde el verano de Ciudad del Cabo, con un último evento que cerraba un año musical espectacular. Evariste

Je ne pense… qu’à ça! (Pathé, 1969) A los ochenta años, George Wolinski se autodefinía como “un gilipollas libertario” y un “sátiro de la sátira”. Su vocación acráta se remonta a sus ácidos comentarios sobre el Mayo del 68 y se extiende a las cabeceras de L’Humanité, Le Nouvel Observateur, París-Match y los semanarios Harakiri y Charlie Hebdo. En 1969 el dramaturgo Claude Confortès llevó a los escenarios una adaptación musical de sus tebeos con partitura de Evariste, el Kim Fowler francófono. El resultado es una maravilla de ye-yé psicodélico y humor irreverente que actualmente

alcanza precios astronómicos en eBay. En una de sus últimas apariciones públicas, el dibujante justificaba que “cuando la única solución para la gente honrada es ser infames, la infamia se convierte en la única solución honrada”.

At eighty, George Wolinski defined himself as "a libertarian asshole" and a "satyr of satire". His anarchist vocation goes from his acids comments on May 68 to the headlines of L'Humanité, Le Nouvel Observateur, Paris-Match and Hara-kiri and Charlie Hebdo weekly papers. In 1969 the playwright Claude took to the stage a musical adaptation of his comics with music by Evariste, the Francophone Kim Fowler. The

result is a marvel of psychedelic ye-yé and irreverent humor that currently reaches astronomical prices on eBay. In one of his last public appearances, the draftsman justified that "when the only solution for decent people is to be infamous, infamy becomes the only honorable solution."

Tres años más tarde se publicaba este disco para recaudar fondos en defensa de la libertad de cátedra, con una sensacional portada de Jean “Cabu” Cabut que aludía a la huelga de hambre de Papinski para denunciar los chanchullos de la administración. A lo largo de su prolífica carrera, los lápices del parisino caricaturizaron a cantautores y mitos del jazz, antes de atreverse con el profeta Mahoma que, apesadumbrado por las amenazas integristas, se lamentaba de lo duro que resulta ser adorado por idiotas.

On January 28, 1973, the philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre joined the defense of Jacques Papinski, a teacher expelled from teaching in retaliation for his criticism of the French education system, from the pages of Libération. Three years later this album was published to raise funds in support of academic freedom, with a sensational cover by Jean "Cabu" Cabut alluding to Papinski´s hunger strike to denounce the shenanigans of the administration. Throughout his prolific career, the pencils of the Parisian artist caricatured songwriters and jazz legends, before daring to draw the prophet Muhammad who, feeling sorry for the fundamentalist threats, lamented how hard it is to be loved by idiots.

Killing An Arab (Small Wonder, 1978) El primer sencillo de los británicos se quedó fuera de su álbum de debut, “Three Imaginary Boys” (1979) debido a la controversia suscitada entre la comunidad musulmana. Robert Smith expresó su intención de condensar sus impresiones del crimen existencialista del “El extranjero” de Albert Camus, pero las explicaciones no convencieron a nadie. Como enésima demostración de que las bibliotecas arderán antes que las iglesias, se les tachó de racistas y la banda se vio obligada a eliminarla de su repertorio. Hubo que esperar a la publicación del recopilatorio “Standing on the Beach” (1986) para poder recuperarla bajo un sello de “advertencia paterna”. Con motivo de la Guerra del Golfo y tras

los atentados del 11-S, se llegó al extremo de sustituir el verso titular por “Kissing an Arab” y “Killing Another”.

The first single from the British stayed out of their debut album, "Three Imaginary Boys" (1979) due to the controversy raised among the Muslim community. Robert Smith expressed his intention to condense his impressions on the existentialist crime of "The Stranger" by Albert Camus, but his explanations did not convince anyone. As umpteenth demonstration that libraries will burn before churches, they were branded as racist and the band was forced to remove it from their repertoire. It was not until the publication of the compilation "Standing on the Beach" (1986) that they recovered it under a seal of "parental warning". On the occasion of the Gulf War and after the 11-S, they went so far to replace the firts verse for "Kissing an Arab" and "Killing Another".

Le 20.04.2005 (Barclay, 2005) El encuentro imaginario de Phillip Katerine con la líder ultraderechista se saldó con una querella por injurias. En su canción, el yerno de Gerard Depardieu advertía del peligro de dejarse seducir por "la larga cabellera rubia" de Marie Le Pen, cuestionando el valor de la intolerancia como moneda de cambio electoral. La letra resultó tan demoledora como un editorial y compañeros de profesión como Benjamin Biolay y Dominque A le animaron a recurrir la sentencia judicial. Una década más tarde, el músico denuncia en un plató de televisión que “el Frente Nacional pretende distorsionar los afectos a la identidad nacional y vincular a los inmigrantes con el yihadismo. Dicen que ellos no son Charlie, y yo les doy la razón. Pero tampoco son franceses, ni tan siquiera seres humanos”.

El escritor suspendió de inmediato la promoción del libro y declaró sentirse profundamente afectado por la muerte de su amigo Bernard Maris, fundador de la revista: “Sí, soy Charlie. Esta es la primera vez en mi vida que alguien que conozco es asesinado”. El último ejemplar publicado antes de la masacre incluía un chiste a costa de su supuesta islamofobia. En el disco compuesto por Bertrand Burgalat a partir de una selección de sus poemas, Houllebecq se disfraza de Gainsbourg para recitar sobre un tipo de contaminación ajena a los límites de la libertad de expresión. Como su prosa: tóxica, lúcida y siempre polémica.

Aquí llega un chaval criado en el sur de Londres a cantar como hay que cantar, como cantaban Al Green y Neil Diamond, con una voz de barítono atronadora y tierna a la vez (las ezez un poco zarabetas) sobre una cama de síntesis moderna y beats de maquinillo. Él le llama a lo que hace ‘Sytnh&B’ (‘synthesizers and blues’). Yo creo que es más bien la penúltima reinvención del soul. Para fans de: Seal, Lionel Ritchie, Sia, ‘Roar’ de Katy Perry y la épica de FM en general.

Låpsley Merseyside (UK) Holly Lapsley es una diva moderna que hace música electrónica minimalista y etérea, pop inventivo y vocal y baladas modernas de pianos procesados y bases hipnóticas. Música llena de ideas y de trucos y de giros y requiebros. Multitalentosa multi-instrumentista de formación clásica, tiene tanto chorro de voz que canta a un palmo del micro. Es como Adele pero en ambicioso.

Slaves Kent (UK) Esto está en el punto natural donde se mezclan el punk narrativo de The Jam y el rap urbano de The Streets. Dos hombres enfadadísimos que tocan de pie rock irritado, básico y politizado, criado y curtido en bares de mierda que apestan a amoníaco. El día que tocaron en el programa de Jools Holland de la BBC con U2 e Interpol les mandaron al asilo en una canción.

Desde los tiempos de Evan Dando que no veíamos un músico así de guapo. El video de ‘Hold Back The River’ empieza con un contraluz de la silueta de James Bay, sombrero trilby y melena lacia suelta, epiphone roja a la espalda y mentón de estatua tracia. Luego arranca a cantar y ojalá cantase una octava más bajo pero su tono así nos vale, y su voz de la tierra le pega al himno de amor que viene después, espiritual y épico. Va para estrella. Para fans de: James Morrison, Damien Rice, Paolo Nutini y lo que es el varón en general.

Su peculiaridad es precisamente lo que los convierte en atractivos para sus fieles.

"The one with the strange voice" and his colleagues visit Madrid with their new "Caminitos del deseo". Four LP's and lots of singles later, they have consolidated themselves as a common name on the national stages, though without being massive yet. Their special feature is what makes them attractive for their fans.

También son noticia habitual en sus trabajos las colaboraciones de prestigio; en este caso, la de David Gilmour.

Ben Watt was one half of the excellent Everything But The Girl, but has also released delicious solo albums before and after joining Tracey Thorn. Hay un momento en Regreso al Futuro II en el que desde 1985 viajan al 21 de Octubre de 2015, o sea dentro de unos meses. En aquel futuro imaginado los coches de policía van volando, los chavales en monopatines flotantes y una pizza del tamaño de un botón se convierte en XL por obra y gracia de un ‘hidratador de comida’. Eran los 80 y pensábamos que en 2015 todos llevaríamos video-gafas como las que la familia McFly usa a la hora de la cena. Hace un par de semanas que Google anunció que ‘descontinuaba’ el proyecto Google Glass. La policía va en Xsara Picassos. El futuro nunca fue como nos lo imaginaron. A riesgo de equivocarnos vamos a intentar predecir lo que se nos viene encima en los próximos diez años. Estos son 10 posibles y probables porvenires: 1. ¡Ordenador de a bordo tenías que ser! Google lleva años probando coches sin conductor por las autopistas de California, MercedesBenz ha presentado las primeras berlinas de lujo auto-dirigidas y Audi consigue que un coche no tripulado recorra el circuito de Hockenheim a 193 km/h. Los coches no volarán en 2025 pero se conducirán solos y nos llevaran a casa cuando estemos un poco chispa. Al activar el modo sin conductor del Mercedes F105 los asientos delanteros se giran para crear una sala de estar. El Mercedes FutureTruck 2025 permite a los camioneros poner el piloto automático y echar una cabezadita. Con 6 millones de vehículos autónomos previstos para 2025, el futuro se presenta como un lugar donde todo el mundo respeta la distancia de seguridad y a las rotondas se entra siempre por el carril adecuado. 2. Tecnología para llevar (encima). El día que Apple fichó a la ex-CEO de Burberry Angela Ahrendts para liderar sus tiendas on y offline la compañía dio la pista definitiva de a dónde piensa dirigirse en los próximos 10 años: tecnología premium para llevar encima inspirada por el sector de la moda de lujo. Tecnologíaaccesorio (bio-pulseras, relojes, colgantes, etc) o

tecnología ponible, integrada directamente en la ropa (sensores, cámaras, textiles inteligentes, etc). Tecnología que nos permitirá levantar la cabeza de la pantalla, con la que interactuaremos a través de comandos de voz, que intuirá nuestras acciones basándose en nuestras rutinas y que medirá minuto a minuto (y caloría a caloría) qué hacemos con nuestra vida. Daremos instrucciones a las máquinas con ondas cerebrales. Escribiremos e-mails sólo con pensarlos. Haremos scroll con los ojos y clicaremos en botones pestañeando. 3. Lo importante es medir salud. Los aparatos que llevaremos encima monitorizarán y archivarán nuestros movimientos y nuestro estilo de vida, sabrán si salimos hasta tarde y en qué bares hemos estado. Sabrán nuestra presión sanguínea, pulso, alcohol en sangre y grasa corporal. En algún punto de la próxima década nos arrepentiremos de haber abierto nuestra intimidad con tanta alegría. Los seguros de salud empezarán a tener en cuenta nuestra biometría antes de asegurarnos. Nuestros jefes podrán saber cuántas horas hemos dormido. Nuestros/as novios/as saber si mentimos cuando decimos que “nos tuvimos que quedar en la oficina hasta tarde”. 4. Unos por/con mucho, otros por/con poco. Uno de cada tres estadounidenses es técnicamente obeso y uno de cada cuatro niños en España tiene sobrepeso. La industria alimenticia es incapaz de auto-regularse y la crisis nos ha hecho lanzarnos a comidas rápidas y calóricas. La obesidad es una bomba de relojería que le explotará a los sistemas de salud en las manos en los próximos 20 años. El número de enfermos de diabetes pasará de 30 millones en 1985 a 350 millones en 2030. Mientras una parte del mundo se instala apps para medir el consumo de calorías, un tercio de la población mundial sufre algún tipo de desnutrición o carencia alimenticia. Las diferencias entre ricos y pobres seguirán ensanchándose. Las 85 personas más ricas del mundo acumulan ya la

Lo sabía mi abuelo y lo sabe Thomas Piketty: dinero llama a dinero. 5. 10.000 Millones. “Creo que estamos jodidos” dice el científico Stephen Emmott en ‘10.000 Millones’ su libro de terror sobre la emergencia poblaciomedioambiental a la que nos enfrentamos en los próximos 10 años. Mientras en el primer mundo pondremos parches a nuestro estilo de vida depredador reciclando botes de mermelada, los países en vías de desarrollo aspirarán a nuestro estilo de vida y nuestros índices de consumo, algo que el planeta no puede permitirse. Un americano medio produce 16.5 toneladas de Co2 al año. Un chino medio 7.2 toneladas. En 2025 tocaremos techo con el petróleo. En la próxima década se imaginarán las soluciones a este problema de recursos y ya os aviso que no os van a gustar: crecimiento cero (o decrecimiento), redistribución de la riqueza y centrales nucleares. 6. Enemigo a las puertas. En este mundo recalentado seguirá incandescente el conflicto entre el islamismo intransigente y los infieles no creyentes. Será una guerra de ideologías y religiones, ejércitos regulares y yihadistas, constituciones liberales y coranes,

luchada en los campos de batalla de oriente medio y las redes sociales, en los suburbios de Karachi y las calles de Europa Occidental. Ojalá en 2025 pueda escribir en M\A\S\G\A\L\I\C\I\A que acaba la década en que solucionamos el mundo post 11-S. Pero tendrán que pasar tres cosas. Uno, Occidente recuperar su credibilidad y pedir perdón por las guerras ilegales que destrozaron su legitimidad para hablar de democracia y libertad. Dos, el islamismo no radical tendrá que imponerse al violento desde dentro, y las guerras de religión entre Suníes y Chiíes acabar en convivencia pacífica y tolerante. Tres, Europa habrá de decidir cómo integra a segundas y terceras generaciones de inmigrantes musulmanes, si los trata como ciudadanos sospechosos de segunda o si les da lugar en una sociedad que también es la suya. 7. Poniéndole puertas al cambio. Más compañías como Airbnb o Über pondrán nerviosos a sectores hiper-regulados y atrofiados. El sector de la energía, el de las tareas del hogar, el del bricolaje, los restaurantes, los repartos, la medicina... Todos serán re-inventados y re-imaginados gracias a tecnologías que conectan oferta y demanda sin necesidad de intermediarios y licencias de apertura. Iremos a cenar a casa del chef. Volveremos al trueque. Compartiremos, prestaremos y alquilaremos pagando con euros reales, bitcoins virtuales o créditos diversos. Y conseguiremos más cosas por la cara. PayPal experimenta ya con formas de pago que usan nuestras facciones como método seguro.

8. Casas y cosas conectadas. Viviremos con robots que harán una cosa y la harán muy bien: robots niñera y enfermera, robots limpiadores y cocineros. Con el movil encenderemos el horno y la calefacción desde la calle, 20 minutos antes de llegar a casa. Neveras on-line detectarán que andamos justos de leche y harán la compra ellas solas por internet. Serán años de conectividad y convergencia. Mega-proveedores de servicios ofrecerán de todo: electricidad, gas, movil, fibra óptica, películas de estreno y partidos del Mundial de Qatar, todo en una factura. 9. Inteligencia colectiva. Las ciudades se harán inteligentes, y usarán la tecnología para ser más productivas y eficientes. Desde el año 2010 Chicago publica on-line todos sus datos de transporte, criminalidad, energía, salarios, vivienda, la ORA y hasta los baches. Hackers y desarrolladores usan la informacion para mejorar la

Smart cities will need other professionals. You should study data analysis, cloud-computing, programming, online commerce, logistics, cyber security, robotics and waste management. 10. The same people who designed posters for the community in PowerPoint will start printing ashtrays and mugs for gifts. En el audivisual, febrero, es mes de premios, Goyas, Emmys, Globos y Oscars. Durante todos estos años hemos jugado a hacer quinielas con los premiados, acertando algunas veces y cabreándonos en otras, con el único consuelo de ver las tendencias que asomaban en Sundance y Berlín. Este año no seremos menos y de paso haremos un repaso histórico a estos últimos años que para eso seguimos de aniversario. En esta edición el corazón nos pide el que nuestros amigos lograsen su segundo Goya con El niño, pero el crítico que llevamos dentro se inclina por esa pequeña joya que es La isla mínima, que demuestra la premisa que con un buen guión, buenos actores y buen director,

igual buena película. Como resumen y constante del cine patrio de esta década solo podríamos dar dos, una sería Torrente, y la otra lo diferentes y buenas que han sido las ganadoras de los Goya. Todo lo demás ha ido y venido. Cuando comenzamos el esto, Amenábar confirmaba maneras y arrasaba con su Mar adentro, que le llevó incluso a los Oscar. Por el camino descubrimos otras formas de hacer las cosas, Coixet mostró La vida secreta de las palabras y Rosales, La Soledad, incluso tuvimos nuestro momento mudo alternativo con Berger y su Blancanieves y revelaciones de Fesser en Camino. Tuvimos tiempo de Volver a ver a Almodóvar, al de verdad, y a Penélope y no a Pe. El audivisual gallego salió de su Celda 211 y

el catalán trajo su Pa Negre. Urbizu enseño que Coronado nos está para coñas con el bifidus y que No habrá paz para los malvados mientras tanto. Al tiempo mi querido Trueba (el no bizco) me recordó porque me gusta el cine y que Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados. Ahora lo propio sería repasar el pasado internacional o lo mucho que la televisión ha crecido en este década, pero quiero hacer un guiño al sitio por el casi todos los genios y amantes de esto empiezan, los cortos. Así que solo quiero desear suerte a nuestro Alberto Vázquez, que Birdboy no se quede solo en la estantería y se traiga un unicornio con él.

Ubicado entre los sevillanos barrios de Las Águilas y Los Prunos, este parque se levanta sobre una superficie total de 32.487m2 garantizando la accesibilidad a la Estación de Cocheras, así como el paso de los vecinos entre las viviendas situadas a ambos lados de dicha estación, y contribuye al disfrute del paseo, de los ámbitos reservados para el descanso y de la contemplación del nuevo paisaje creado: consigue generar una ciudad más cohesionada, con mejores relaciones internas

y más humana y agradable en sus vivencias cotidianas. El espacio está organizado según un recorrido en suave rampa norte-sur que permite alcanzar la cota más elevada de la estación, al cual se van vinculando otros transversales que crean taludes artificiales para proteger las plazas a nivel del barrio. Dos son los elementos de relevancia a tener en cuenta como los más particulares de este desarrollo urbanístico. Por un lado, la pavimentación, realizada con piezas cerámicas, adoquines calcáreos y granito, que repite una geometría adoptada de un patrón de azulejos existente en el Patio de las Muñecas de Los Reales Alcázares de Sevilla, creando un tejido

que va atando los distintos espacios. Por el otro, la vegetación, compuesta por 24 variedades de 18 especies diferentes elegidas minuciosamente según su localización, orientación, compatibilidad, color y olor, además de los más de 200 árboles de 23 especies seleccionados por su porte, follaje, flores, sombra, frutos y simbología, y de hojas perenne (para proporcionar verdor durante todo el año), caduca (para informar de la llegada del otoño y la primavera) y semiperenne (no todos a la vez) para constituir un verdadero calendario vegetal. ARCHITECTURE \ ARQUITECTURA

El Parque de la Música is one of the unique actions on redevelopment and urban integration associated with the infrastructure of the Sevilla subway. Located between the neighbourhoods of Las Aguilas and Los Prunos in Sevilla, this park is built on a total area of 32.487m2 ensuring accessibility to the station of Cocheras, and the passing of the people between the houses on both sides of that station, and contributes to the enjoyment of the walk, of the reserved areas for relaxation and contemplation of the new landscape: it generates a more cohesive city, with better internal relationships and more human and friendly in their daily experiences. The space is organized according to a walk with a gentle slope, north-south, which reaches the highest point of the station, which is crossed by others which create artificial slopes to protect the squares at the neighbourhood level.

There are two important elements to consider as the most particular ones of this urban development. On the one hand, the paving, made with ceramic tiles, calcareous cobbles and granite, repeating a geometry adopted from a pattern of tiles from the Patio de las Muñecas of the Reales Alcázares in Seville, creating a weave that ties the different areas. On the other hand, the vegetation, consisting of 24 varieties of 18 different species carefully chosen according to their location, orientation, compatibility, color and smell, and more than 200 trees of 23 species selected for its size, foliage, flowers, shade, fruits and symbolism, and with evergreen leaves (to provide greenery throughout the year), deciduous trees (in order to reflect the arrival of autumn and spring) and semi-evergreen (not all at once) to create a real plant calendar. CONTRACULTURA Y RESITUACIÓN COUNTERCULTURE AND RESITUATION

Con el tercer volumen de “Poder Freak” se completa la “Crónica de la contracultura” con la que el crítico musical Jaime Gonzalo nos ofrece su desmitificadora visión de un fenómeno que para su autor nació tras la 2º guerra mundial para morir en los 70. En estos 10 años hemos procurado estar atentos a las distintas publicaciones que se acercaran al tema en cuestión, consiguiendo que tras numerosas lecturas, más que una evolución lineal en el tiempo, la palabra Contracultura sugiera una caótica amalgama de distintos -cuando no contrapuestos- idearios. El famoso libro de T. Roszak (“El nacimiento de la contracultura”) que dio origen a la palabra ya emanaba un tono maniqueo en su tendencia a oponer revolución y tecnología. Resulta curioso a este respecto que el mismo Timothy Leary, gurú contracultural y propagador del LSD en los 60, acabara vaticinando el mundo de las computadoras como la llave ideal que con el tiempo conseguiría abrir nuestras conciencias. No está de más recordar –como apunta Jaime Gonzalo en su libro- que el primer PC nació en un garaje de Psilicon Valley de la mano de un grupo de hippies visionarios. Recomendable para conocer la transformación psicodélica de los 60’ es el libro “Acid Dreams” (Ed Castellarte). Ken Goffman en “La contracultura a través de los tiempos” es de los pocos que ha tratado de dotar de significado al término, al margen de tendencias aun no superadas como la de oponer contracultura y mercado; ver la publicidad como una herramienta anuladora del potencial subversivo de la contracultura, habitualmente hasta extremos de caer en lo que podríamos denominar

“Síndrome Victor Lenore”, que el plumilla hizo gala en su “Indies, hipsters y gafapastas”. Esta parafilia consiste renegar de cualquier gusto cultural con visos de abandonar su condición minoritaria, mostrar un estado alerta ante la posibilidad de ser etiquetado para, posteriormente, en un acto de esquizoide inquisición cultural mirar por encima del hombre a todo aquel que siga profesando los gustos dejados atrás). Un libro esclarecedor a la hora de constatar la difusa línea de contracultura y mercado es ”La conquista de lo cool”, que pone sobre el tapete las contradicciones de un concepto empeñado en negar la cultura dominante. Nuevos términos han llegado con posterioridad para mantener incorrupto el individualismo (que no la individualidad). Alternativo, Cool, indie, hipster... Últimamente este humilde escribano ha tenido conocimiento del término de it-girl, al parecer de rabiosa actualidad entre blogueras con anhelo de enarbolar su exquisitez en el gusto.

The third volume of "Poder Freak" completes the "Cronica de la contracultura" with which the music critic Jaime Gonzalo offers his demystifying view of a phenomenon that for the author was born after the 2nd world war and died in the 70s. In these 10 years we have tried to be attentive to the various publications that focused on the matter, getting that, after numerous readings, rather than a linear evolution over time, the word Counterculture suggests a chaotic amalgam of different ideologies, if not opposed. The famous book by T. Roszak ("The Birth of the Counterculture") that gave rise to the word, already had a Manichean touch in its tendency to oppose revolution and technology. It is curious in this regard that the same Timothy Leary, countercultural guru and propagator of LSD in the 60s, ended predicting the world of computers as the ideal key that eventually will get to open our minds. It is worth remembering, as Jaime Gonzalo points in his book, that the first PC was born in a garage in Silicon Valley of the hand of a group of visionaries hippies."Acid Dreams" (Castellarte) is recommendable if you want to discovering the psychedelic transformation of the 60s’. Ken Goffman in "The counterculture through time" is among the few who have tried to give meaning to the term, regardless of trends still unsurpassed as that of opposing counterculture and market; see advertising as a tool annihilating the subversive potential of the counterculture, usually to the extreme of what we might call "Victor Lenore Syndrome" that the writer displayed in his "Indies, hipsters y gafapastas". This paraphilia consists of repudiating any cultural taste with hints of abandoning their minority status, show an alertness state to the possibility of being labeled and, later, in an act of schizoid culture inquisition, look over the shoulder all who follow the tastes left behind). An enlightening book when finding the fine line of counterculture and market is "The conquest of cool," which brings to the fore the contradictions of a term determined to deny the dominant culture. New terms have come later to keep uncorrupted the individualism (not the individuality). Alternative, Cool, indie, hipster ... Recently this humble writer has read the term “it-girl”, apparently highly usual among bloggers with longing to show their exquisite taste.

Englobado en la denominada escuela barcelonesa el film adaptó fielmente la homónima novela hoy recuperada que sorteada la censura de la época cuenta la evolución de 3 jóvenes amigos, cada uno de distinta extracción social y decididos a tomar la senda del delito.

— Este país extraño es pura fascinación para un viajero, por muy curtido que esté: paisaje humano y soledad cósmica, biodiversidad y caos, decadencia y carácter.

En la encrucijada del Índico, la paleta de Dios ha pintado un pedazo de planeta con rojos marcianos y verdes vietnamitas, para estriar con insuperable dramatismo sus grandes territorios de sabana, arrozales, desiertos y bosques primigenios amenazados por la deforestación. Todo es contraste, mestizaje y policromía terrenal y étnica, combinación de rasgos polinesios y bantúes de exotismo imponente. La separan del continente africano 400 kilómetros y 160 millones de años de evolución. Presume de 200.000 especies vivas, 18 etnias, la cuarta parte de la flora de África, la mitad de los camaleones del planeta y todos los lémures conocidos. Añadid a la lista el callejón de los baobabs y respirad hondo, porque este país extraño es pura fascinación para un viajero, por muy curtido que esté: paisaje humano y soledad cósmica, biodiversidad y caos, decadencia y carácter. Internarse en Diegó (oficialmente Antsiranana), es descubrir una ciudad situada en la punta norte, cuyo puerto es célebre en todo el antiguo Mar de las Indias. Y como todo puerto próspero ha acumulado,

cual estratos geológicos, un sinfín de razas y religiones, un laberinto de europeos y africanos, árabes y chinos, criollos, indios, comorenses, parloteando un idioma que se ha construido con dialectos de Borneo, francés colonial, inglés pirata y saudade mozambiqueña. Una mezcla potentísima que emborracha los sentidos, mientras el calor castiga las villas coloniales de las viejas familias francesas, los puestos artesanos a pie de calle, los anacrónicos rickshaw, el cementerio militar británico, las ruinas del Hotel des Mines. Un lugar donde la aventura aún late, solo ensuciada por la invasión de la telefonía móvil. No muy lejos, el paisaje originario de este universo viste todavía a La Montaña de Ámbar con ríos, cascadas y lagos volcánicos, imponentes ramy de cuarenta metros y millones de lianas enmarañadas. Es el reino particular de los lémures. Toparse con el símbolo de la fauna malgache mirándote con sus graciosos ojos dilatados podría ser suficiente si no existiese Ankarana, "el lugar de las piedras puntiagudas": kilómetros y kilómetros de cuevas y de simas, en los que afloran los góticos

tsingys, formaciones de piedra que semejan agujas catedralicias talladas por la erosión. Arañando vida a sus pies, en espacios imposibles de bosque húmedo, se esconden las más raras variedades de camaleón que existen, el camaleón azul, el camaleón pantera. Los anoté sin verlos, claro. En cualquier caso, no romperse nada en Ankarana merece celebrarse en Nosy Bé, la isla de los perfumes y de las lagunas calientes. Prescindamos de Hell Ville, donde acosan al wazaha para que compre lo que no sabe usar y vayámonos a Ambatoloaka, a sus bares de ron y su música ancestral sobre arenas nocturnas: el rítmico vaky soava, acompañado por palmas, que se canta para que el mar lo arrastre hacia los muchos orígenes de las gentes que habitan aquí. Solo hay tiempo y espacio para un último rito en el país de los árboles gigantes: viajar hasta Morondava para caminar por el callejón de los baobabs al atardecer. El lugar perfecto para pensar hacia dónde ir ahora en busca de otra magia. Moneda al aire y un conjuro en los labios: “Madagascar”.

At the crossroads of the Indian Ocean, the palette of God has painted a piece of the planet with reds from Mars and Vietnamese greens, fluting with unsurpassed drama its large areas of savannah, paddy fields, deserts and ancient forests threatened by deforestation. Everything is contrast, miscegenation and earthly and ethnic polychrome, combination of Polynesian features and Bantus of stunning exoticism. 400 kilometres and 160 million years of evolution separate it from Africa. It boasts 200,000 living species, 18 ethnic groups, a quarter of the flora of Africa, half of the chameleons of the planet and all known lemurs. Add to the list the alley of baobabs and take a deep breath, because this strange country is pure fascination for a traveller, no matter how experienced he is: human landscape and cosmic solitude, biodiversity and chaos, decay and character. Going into Diegó (officially Antsiranana), is to discover a city located in the northern tip, whose port is famous throughout the ancient Indian Sea. And like any thriving port, it has accumulated, as geological strata, countless races and religions, a maze of European and African people, Arab and Chinese, Creole, Indian, Comorian, chattering a language that has been built with dialects from Borneo, colonial French, pirate English and Mozambican saudade. A potent mixture that delights your senses while the hot punishes the colonial villas of the old French families, the artisan stands in the streets, the anachronistic rickshaw, the British military cemetery, the ruins of Hotel des Mines.

A place where adventure still beats, only soiled by the invasion of mobile telephony. Not far away, the original landscape of this universe still dress the Amber Mountain with rivers, waterfalls and volcanic lakes, impressive ramy of forty meters and millions of tangled vines. It is the kingdom of lemurs. Encountering the symbol of the Malagasy wildlife watching you with their graceful dilated eyes may be sufficient if Ankarana would not exist, "the place of sharp stones": miles and miles of caves and chasms, where the Gothic tsingys appear, stone formations resembling cathedral spires carved by erosion. Scratching life at its feet, in impossible spaces of wet forest, the rarest varieties of chameleon in the world are hidden, the blue chameleon, the panther chameleon. I wrote them down without seeing them, of course. In any case, not breaking anything in Ankarana must be celebrated in Nosy Bé, the island of perfumes and hot lagoons. — La repercusión nacional e internacional del vino y de la tapa, hace que sean unos de los emblemas gastronómicos más destacados de los últimos 10 años.

Si hace ahora 10 años Frank Gehry no hubiera accedido a crear el edificio emblemático de la Bodega Marqués de Riscal –El Ciego (Álava)-, quizás un vino de aquí no se habría “colado” en la mesa del Presidente Obama –el blanco Peza do Rei, de Ourense-. Este viaje gastronómico de ida y vuelta entre EE.UU. y España –diría más, entre España y el resto del mundo- comenzó en cierta manera el día en el que alguna persona con muy buen ojo convenció al arquitecto estadounidense, que venía de firmar en Bilbao su obra más famosa –el Museo Guggenheim-, para que se acercase a la Rioja Alavesa a “catar” una botella del año de su nacimiento, nada menos que de 1929. El flechazo, como no podía ser de otra forma, se produjo de inmediato, el genio proveniente de la Costa Oeste quedó prendado por la esencia del mejor producto y se logró de esta manera alcanzar el envoltorio perfecto para poder cruzar el umbral mediático con garantías de éxito. Que mejor ventana abierta al mundo que un edificio firmado por la estrella de la arquitectura de aquel momento y dar así a conocer un producto ahora renovado en nuestro país como el vino, estrella con mayúsculas de nuestra gastronomía. La impronta de aquella situación –allá por el año 2005-, que marcó un antes y un después en la relación entre entre arquitectura de postín y vino de calidad, quedó recogida en el número 14 de +coruña. Ahora bien, si vinos hay en muchas partes del mundo (y buenos, como es el caso de California, el lugar de procedencia de Gehry), TAPAS sólo las hay aquí. Este deporte, el del tapeo, es tan nuestro que identifica a España en el resto del mundo. Durante la última

década, en formato más o menos evolucionado, nuestras tapas han colonizado el mundo entero. Sirvan los ejemplos del chef marbellí Dani García en Manzanilla –su aventura en la Gran Manzana-, sin olvidarse de José Andrés y sus restaurantes de tapas Jaleo, pionero en EE.UU., o el Bull Bar, en Ibérica Canary Wharf, uno de los restaurantes de Nacho Manzano en Londres, donde también está Hispania del chef Marcos Morán, o los de Sergi Arola, que van desde el Eat-Hola Tapas Bar de Verbier (Suiza) hasta Hong Kong de la mano de su línea Vi Cool. Hacia dentro de nuestras fronteras se ha apostado también por este formato de bocados renovado, tanto en elaboración como en puesta en escena, de la mano de consagrados como Paco Roncero en Estado Puro, Dani García en La Moraga o Senén González y su innovadora solución para poner un pintxo en condiciones –de huevo o de tortilla de patatas- directamente en el congelador de casa. Incluso Telecinco ha emitido recientemente un programa temático sobre el tapeo en distintas ciudades de España presentado por el chef madrileño Mario Sandoval. La repercusión nacional e internacional del vino y sus bodegas (por calidad del producto y, en ocasiones, en forma de espectacular arquitectura), y de la tapa o el pintxo (como mejor suene) hace que sean unos de los emblemas gastronómicos más destacados de los últimos 10 años, y a los chefs españoles y sus equipos, con Ferran Adrià a la cabeza, como los verdaderos artífices a la hora de hacer evolucionar los conceptos y maridar ambos tesoros de nuestra mesa para todo el mundo!

If 10 years ago Frank Gehry had not agreed to create the iconic building of the Winery Marqués de Riscal –El Ciego (Álava)- perhaps one of our wines would not have sneaked in the table of President Obama - the white wine Peza do Rei, from Ourense-. This gastronomic round trip between the US and Spain – I would say more, between Spain and the rest of the world - somehow started the day in which someone with a good eye convinced the American architect, who had just finished in Bilbao his most famous work - the Guggenheim Museum-, to go to the Rioja Alavesa to "taste" a bottle of wine from the year of his birth, no less than 1929. Love at first sight, how could it be otherwise, and the genius from the West Coast was captivated by the essence of the best product and thus they managed to achieve the perfect package to cross the threshold media with guaranteed success. What a best window on the world than a building created by the star of the architecture of that time and thus introduce a product such as wine, now renewed in our country, true star of our cuisine. The imprint of the situation – by the year 2005 -, which marked a before and after in the relationship between high architecture and high quality wine, was reflected at issue number 14 of +coruña. However, there are wines in many parts of the world (and good wines, as in California, the birthplace of Gehry), but TAPAS, there are only here. This sport, the tapeo, is so typical in our country that identifies Spain in the rest of the world. During the last decade, in more or less evol-

ved forms, our tapas have colonized the world. Serve as examples that of the chef from Marbella Dani García in Manzanilla -his adventure in the Big Apple-, not forgetting José Andrés and his tapas restaurants Jaleo, a pioneer in the US, or the Bull Bar, in Iberian Canary Wharf, one of Nacho Manzano restaurants in London, where we can also find the Hispania of Marcos Moran, or Sergi Arola´s restaurants, from the Eat-Hola Tapas Bar in Verbier (Switzerland) to Hong Kong with his line Vi Cool. The national and international impact of wine and wineries (for the quality of the product and, sometimes, in spectacular architecture), and that of the tapa or the pintxo (choose the one you prefer) makes them some of the gastronomic landmarks in the last 10 years, and the Spanish chefs and their teams, with Ferran Adrià at the head, are the true authors when talking about the evolution of concepts and the pairing between those treasures of our table for the whole world!

La dificultad para encontrarlos, los espacios surrealistas en los que se cobijan o el afán de exclusividad puede ser uno de los alicientes para su desarrollo. — Let's face it, for years the quality of television series has been considerable. The productions for the small screen are gaining ground with good plots, shining stars, spectacular productions and a lot of background work. Today, cinema is served in the living room.

CUANDO LA TELEVISIÓN GANA TERRENO AL CINE WHEN TELEVISION GAINS GROUND TO CINEMA

— Reconozcámoslo, hace años que la calidad de las series de televisión ha dejado de ser relativa. La producciones para la pequeña pantalla ganan terreno con argumentos trabajados, estrellas rutilantes, producciones espectaculares y mucho trabajo de fondo. Hoy el cine se sirve en el salón de casa.

Todo empezó hace más o menos una década. Allá por los últimos 90, cuando el cine empezaba a parecernos caro y Friends cerraba su emisión demostrando que la Sit-Com había llegado a otro nivel. Creímos que las buenas series se acababan ahí, pero la industria nos dio un “bazinga” de manual creando productos increíbles que dejaron boquiabiertos a los espectadores. Nacían las series 2.0, una nueva generación. Entre ellas estaban formatos irreverentes –entonces- como Sex and The City, obras maestras con regusto a clásicos como Los Soprano, espectaculares guiones como los de West Wind y maravillas incomprendidas en sus ini-

cios como Mad Men. Todas ellas series muy cuidadas, aterrizadas en los primeros 2000 y capaces de demostrarnos que había vida más allá de las pelis oscarizadas, que sentarse a ver una serie de televisión era algo más transcendental de lo que creíamos. En España, para qué mentir, hemos ido un poco a rebufo –como en tantas otras cosas- pero hemos logrado producir fabulosos dramas actualizados como la impresionante Crematorio, o Sit-Coms como Cuestión de Sexo, que pasó sin pena ni gloria por el share pero sin embargo recibió grandes halagos de los entendidos. La era de oro de la televisión parece estar muy, muy lejos de llegar a su fin.

Con The Newsroom recién terminada y Modern Family arrasando allá por donde pisa, los espectadores no parecen dispuestos a renunciar a una calidad que el cine hace mucho que no ofrece de forma contundente. A esto se unen las posibilidades que ofrecen las nuevas tecnologías, con la tele por cable permitiéndonos rebobinar contenidos sin necesidad de tener un grabador en casa y las plataformas web de las cadenas cada día más al día. El futuro, amigos, está en la pequeña pantalla. Dominar el mando tendrá hoy más sentido que nunca.

NEWS \ ACTUALIDAD

It all started about a decade ago. Back in the last years of the 90s, when the cinema began to seem expensive and Friends finished, showing that the Sit-Com had reached another level. We thought that good series ended there, but the industry gave us a good lesson creating amazing products that left the audience open-mouthed. The 2.0 series were born, a new generation. Among them were formats considered irreverent –at that time- as Sex and The City, masterpieces with a classic aftertaste such as The Sopranos, spectacular scripts such as those of West Wind and wonders misunderstood in their beginnings as Mad Men. All of them very well-cared series, landed in the first years of the 2000 and able to prove us that there was life beyond the Oscar-winning movies, than watching a television series was something more important than what we thought. In Spain, we do not want to lie, we've gone with a small delay - as in so many

other things - but we have managed to produce great updated dramas s the impressive Crematorio, or Sit-Coms as Cuestión de Sexo, which went unnoticed by the share yet it received praise from the experts. The golden age of television seems far, far from coming to an end. With The Newsroom recently finished and Modern Family sweeping wherever it treads, viewers seem unwilling to give up a quality that the cinema does not offer from a long time ago in a convincing way. We must add to this the possibilities offered by new technologies, the cable TV allowing us to rewind contents without having a home recorder and the web platforms of the different channels increasingly updated. The future, my friends, is on the small screen. Having the remote control will be more important than ever before.

Seven years of rhythm, chords and cadences, collected in this edition full of magic and details. Here is "Round About Jazz", the book written by Quinto Mourelle which reflects the experience of the 1906 Jazz Season, a unique event that during these years has joined the best international performers of this genre with the most active jazz clubs of Spain. The book, an exercise of retrospection that seeks to provide an overview of what has happened in the last seven years of jazz music in this Season through the words of artists, club owners, programmers, etc ... has been presented last January 20th, together with the line-up of the eighth edition of the 1906 Jazz Season, at the iconic Jazz Filloa and is already on sale in department stores such as El Corte Ingles and FNAC among other outlets. 12 Spanish cities and 50 artists joined in an initiative which in 2014 sold out in dozens of concerts and attracted over 12,000 spectators around a timeless and living style. In 2015 the 1906 Jazz Season will be back in the clubs again, the true home of jazz, but it will also gather the audience in large facilities, beginning on March 22 with the concert of Richard Bona Group at the Teatro Principal in Santiago, and will take jazz to the streets putting the crown jewel with a Jazz Marathon open to the public on June 19 in the Quintana Square of Santiago de Compostela.

UN PLATO EN LA MESA A DISH ON THE TABLE

— La crisis nos ha dejado temblando a muchos. A casi todos. A otros, directamente los ha expulsado del sistema. Los comedores sociales se han convertido en una necesidad para un porcentaje muy alto de la población y colaborar con ellos es sencillo y efectivo.

“Antes al comedor social sólo venían indigentes, personas al margen de la sociedad. Ahora damos de comer a familias completas”. Esto decía no hace mucho el presidente de la Cocina Económica, una centenaria entidad coruñesa dedicada a abastecer a quienes no tienen qué llevarse a la boca. Y es que con la situación que atraviesa el mundo en estos momento, hay cada día más personas que, estando realmente insertadas en la sociedad, se encuentran sin embargo al margen de muchas necesidades. Por eso servicios como este, o como el Comedor Social Santo Domingo de Lugo, se ven cada día más desbordados. Echar una mano es fácil. Pueden hacerse donaciones económicas anónimas –incluso pueden hacerse a través de sus webs- o aportar alimentos –preferiblemente no perecederos-, pero también se puede ir más allá. El voluntariado es cada vez más necesario, y una forma de colaboración muy práctica para quienes quieren ayudar pero no pueden permitirse donar ni un euro de lo que ganan. En lo que parece perfilarse como la recta final de la crisis –y ojalá así sea- estos servicios –en su mayoría no sustentados con dinero público- se posicionan como imprescindibles para evitar dejar fuera de nuestro sistema a mucha gente, personas que serán parte necesaria de la recuperación.

With the situation in the world right now, there are more and more people who, despite being really inserted in society, have many needs. So services like this, or the Comedor Social Santo Domingo in Lugo, are increasingly overwhelmed. Helping is easy. Anonymous financial donations can be made – even through their webs- or bringing food -preferably not perishable - but you can go further. Volunteering is increasingly necessary, and a very convenient way for those who want to help but cannot afford to donate one single euro of their earnings. In what seems to be the final stage of the crisis –and we hope it is- these services, -mostly not supported with public money- are indispensable to avoid leaving out of our system many people who will be a necessary part of the recovery.
