Welcome to Madrid: interview with Manuel González Productores de Sonrisas - CEO

El joven empresario Manuel González Villanueva funda, junto a su hermano Rafael, Productores de Sonrisas, con la que han producido alguno de los más grandes espectáculos navideños de la capital. En cada nuevo proyecto, sorprenden con espectáculos innovadores para disfrutar en familia En los últimos 10 años, han producido diferentes espectáculos familiares como Circo Mágico, Circo de Hielo, Navidad Circo Price o The Cirkid.

En esta ocasión, en el año en el que se cumple el 250 aniversario del circo moderno, nos traen un espectáculo de la mano de Emilio Aragón: Circlassica.

• ¿Cómo surgió este proyecto?

Como sabéis, el circo está de celebración este año, de la creación de lo que hoy llamamos el circo moderno, y llevábamos unos años barruntando que es lo que podíamos hacer para destacar de alguna manera la importancia del circo en estos últimos años, y esta “frase manía” de “el mayor espectáculo del mundo” pero que nosotros seguimos pensando que cuando se hace bien, lo es de verdad. Y buscábamos, yo con Emilio, que lo conozco ya desde la época de mi padre, siempre que me lo encontraba (y me lo he encontrado muchas veces en estos últimos años), le decía “Emilio, tienes que dirigir un show de circo, tenemos que hacer un show juntos…” y siempre le perseguía. Y el año pasado, con un Emilio mucho más tranquilo, una vez que estaba desligado de su faceta de producción de televisión más intensa, en una comida acabamos volviéndole a ofrecer esa dirección y él acabo aceptando, porque el circo en general, no solo nosotros, necesita de ciertas figuras, y le viene muy bien que Emilio vuelva a dirigir un espectáculo de circo, y digo el circo en general, no estoy hablando de una manera particular, y surge este Circlássica que nosotros teníamos claro que queríamos hacer, y ahí empezamos a hablar y lanzamos este espectáculo, que yo espero que le llegue 4 - welcome to madrid

The young businessman Manuel González Villanueva founds, together with his brother Rafael, “Productores de Sonrisas” or Producers of Smiles, with which they have produced some of the biggest Christmas shows in the capital. In each new project, they surprise us with innovative shows to enjoy with the family.

In the last 10 years, they have produced different family shows like Magic Circus, Ice Circus, Christmas circus Price or The Cirkid.

This time, the 250 anniversary of the modern circus, they bring us a spectacle of the hand of Emilio Aragón: Circlassica.

• How did this project emerge?

As you know, the circus is celebrating this year, the creation of what we call today the modern circus, and we had a few years questioning what we could do to highlight in some way the importance of the circus. The phrase “the greatest spectacle in the world” kept coming to our mind and we had clear that when something is done well, it can prosper. What Emilio and I wanted, knowing him since the time of my childhood, whenever I ran into him (and I have encountered many times in recent years), I said “Emilio, you have to lead a Show Circus, we have to do a show together...”and always I always pursued him. And last year, with a much calmer Emilio, once he was detached from his facet of more intense television production, in a meal, we ended up returning to the offer and he just accepted. The circus in general, not only us, needs certain figures and it’s very good for Emilio to redirect a circus show. I say the circus in general, I’m not talking in a particular way, and we were very clear that we wanted to do this Circlássica, and there we started talking and we launched this show, which I hope will reach the

heart of many people.

• Can you give us a “sneak peek” of what we will be able to see: Artists, numbers, scenery....

We will go to a circus from almost 1900, which is a time that I like very much, almost the golden age of the circus; and as for numbers, in the end what we try every year is that there is always something new, although the disciplines of the circus are what they are, but it is true that from time to time there are new disciplines and in the end we have ample space and we have always tried not to repeat it from one year to another. In this Circlássica we have taken into account the personality of the artist; in other projects we have asked the artist to be more chameleon (as it was in Magic Circus, you had to go to a story, a time Merlyliana) and here we needed good artists, who always are, but with a personality of their own, and that I think is the big difference as artists; and then the Story, of which I do not want to reveal much, is a story very real, of love between a clown and an acrobat-dancer, and out there we will wander, is the guiding thread of this Circlássica. It takes us to a time when we feel very comfortable, but telling a story that is very much ours, of things that happen, and that we have seen during these last years that we carry in this art.

• How long have you been preparing it?

Really, a year. Before the end of the Christmas season in Madrid, we are already working for the following year. Artists, many of them, have to be booked2 – 3 years in advance. There is not much difference between a great actor and a great circus artist, the calendars are the same, you have to schedule their time, we have to reserve them with a lot of time if we want to count on them. Then there is the creative team that begins to work in the spectacle in January -February that’s when we get out of them storm of the previous Christmas.

• What message does this show convey or do you want to transmit?

This year is certainly a vindication of the circus as a great spectacle. We have been doing this for many years, we try is to recover the public that the circus lost, in a time that I do not know if I should call it an economic crisis or crisis of spectacle or crisis of the sector, I do not know, but it is true that there are people who no longer want to come

al corazón a la gente, que tocará la fibra sensible de la gente.

• Adelántenos algo de lo que vamos a poder ver: artistas, números, escenografía….

En escenografía nos vamos a un circo casi de 1900, que es una época que a mi me gusta mucho, casi la época dorada del circo; y en cuanto a números, al final lo que intentamos todos los años es que siempre haya novedad, aunque las disciplinas del circo son las que son, pero es verdad que de vez en cuando surgen nuevas disciplinas y al final tenemos un abanico amplio y siempre hemos intentado no repetir de un año a otro, y en este Circlássica hemos tenido muy en cuenta la personalidad del artista; en otros proyectos hemos pedido al artista que sea más camaleónico (como fue en Circo Mágico, que te tenias que ir a una historia, una época Merlyliana) y aquí necesitábamos buenos artistas, que siempre lo son, pero con una personalidad propia, y esa yo creo que es la gran diferencia en cuanto artistas; y luego la historia, de la que no quiero desvelaros mucho, es una historia muy real, de amor entre un clown (payaso) y una acróbata-bailarina, y por ahí vamos a deambular, es el hilo conductor de este Circlássica que nos lleva a una época en la que nosotros nos sentimos muy cómodos, pero contado una historia muy nuestra, de cosas que pasan, y que nosotros hemos visto durante estos últimos años que llevamos en esto.

• ¿Cuánto tiempo llevan preparándolo?

Realmente un año. Antes de terminar la temporada de Navidad en Madrid, ya estamos trabajando para el siguiente año. Los artistas, muchos de ellos, tenemos que reservarlos con 2 – 3 años de antelación. No hay mucha diferencia entre un gran actor y un gran artista de circo, los calendarios son los mismos, hay que adelantarse, tenemos que reservarlos con muchísimo tiempo si queremos contar con ellos, y luego está el equipo creativo que si que se pone a trabajar en el espectáculo en enero - febrero que es cuando salimos de la vorágine de la anterior Navidad.

• ¿Qué mensaje transmite o quiere transmitir este espectáculo?

Este año sin duda es una reivindicación del circo como gran espectáculo. Nosotros lo llevamos haciendo durante muchísimos años, lo que intentamos es recuperar a ese público que el circo perdió, en una época que no sé si llamarlo crisis económica o crisis de espectáculo o crisis del sector, no lo sé, pero es verdad que hubo gente que ya no le apetecía venir al

circo, que no era atractivo, y ahora sin embargo tenemos espectáculos que llenan durante las Navidades.

Circo Mágico lo vieron cerca de 150.000 espectadores, la demanda de entradas que está habiendo para Circlássica es altísima. Volvemos a serle atractivo a ese gran público y eso es lo que nosotros siempre hemos intentado y hemos buscado, esa reivindicación del circo como nosotros lo conocemos, del circo como gran espectáculo. Para eso es necesario trabajar mucho, poner mucho cariño en todo lo que hacemos, tener mil detalles en el espectáculo para que la gente, esa apreciación que tienen de nuestros espectáculos, siga siendo la que es, que son espectáculos de grandísima calidad, donde nunca te vas arrepentir de haber ido.

• ¿Hay algo en lo que hayáis tenido especial cuidado a la hora de preparar este espectáculo?

Cada uno tenemos nuestras parcelas. Mi hermana María, se está encargando del vestuario, y lo que veo, que me está llegando ahora, es que me encanta, me digo “que cosa más bonita”; y Emilio y la música van de la mano, y empiezo a escuchar toda la banda sonora de Circlássica y es que me quedo abobado, se me ponen los pelos de punta. La escenografía, pues igual la estamos mimando hasta el mínimo detalle, porque es muy especial para nosotros, porque es de verdad un proyecto reivindicativo. Por todo ello, nos podrá salir mejor o peor, pero nadie puede decir que no le hemos puesto empeño y no le vamos a poner cariño a este Circlássica.

• ¿Cuáles han sido las dificultades de llevar a cabo este espectáculo?

Pues la mayor dificultad es técnica, porque tenemos varios números, los llamados grandes, que son muy aparatosos. Tenemos un trapecio volante, que debe de convivir con un doble columpio, una disciplina que empezó en Rusia y que es la primera vez que está hecha solo por mujeres. Es un número de 11 acróbatas rusas que hacen un número históricamente de hombres. Tienen que convivir el trapecio volante con el alambre, con este doble columpio, y siempre con las propuestas escénicas que hacemos nosotros. Nunca vas a ver una escenografía del circo al uso, nunca vas a ver unas cortinas. El trasladar al espectador el convivir estos números con la escenografía, todavía nos está creando algún que otro quebradero de cabeza.

• Desde la perspectiva de la producción artística ¿Cómo ve la situación en España a la hora de poder financiar estos proyectos y de que el público pueda ir a verlos?

Magic Circus was seen by nearly 150,000 spectators, the demand for tickets for Circlássica are very high. We are again attractive to the great public and that is what we have always tried, and we have sought, that claim of the circus as we know it, of the circus as a great spectacle. For that it is necessary to work a lot, to put much affection in everything that we do, to have thousands of details in the spectacles that the people, continue to appreciate our high-quality spectacles. Spectacles that nobody regrets having watched.

• Is there anything you’ve taken special care when preparing this show?

Each one of us has our role. my sister María, is in charge of the wardrobe, and what I’ve seen, that is arriving now, I just love it, I say “What a pretty thing”; Emilio and the music go hand by hand, and I begin to hear the whole sound track of Circlássica and I am shocked, I get the creeps. The scenery, we are conscious of even the minimum detail, because it is very special for us, because it is really a project to vindicate. For all this, we can get better or worse, but no one can say that we have not put effort to this Circlássica.

• What has been the difficulties of carrying out this Show?

The greatest difficulty is technique, because we have several numbers of the so-called “grandes” that are huge in size. We also have a flying trapeze, which must coexist with a double swing, a discipline that started in Russia and that is the first time it is made only by women. Eleven Russian acrobats who do a number historically of men.

They have to coexist the trapeze with the wire, with this double swing, and always with the scenic proposals that we do. You’re never going to see a scenery from the circus to use, you’re never going to see curtains. Moving the spectator to coexist these numbers with the scenery, is still creating us some other headache.

• From the perspective of artistic production how do you see the situation in Spain in order to finance these projects and the public can go to see them?

There is a reality and the Ministry of Culture has turned its back on the evil so-called traditional circus. Now there’s a fashion between the

ha dado la espalda al mal llamado circo tradicional.

Ahora hay una moda entre el circo tradicional y el contemporáneo, y el Ministerio de Cultura ha apostado de manera descarada por el circo contemporáneo, yo creo que es un error tremendo del INAEM. Nosotros podemos dar nuestra opinión, y la damos en los consejos de circo, podemos trasladar el sentir del sector, … pero bueno, también hay otra realidad, y es que el circo históricamente nunca ha dependido de esas ayudas, nunca ha dependido de que se programe o no se programe, porque nunca se ha programado, la verdad.

Y entonces, en ese sentido se podría decir que somos unos privilegiados, y estamos acostumbrados a vivir sin esas ayudas. La situación es complicada, no te voy a decir que es fácil, pero yo insisto, si el circo está bien hecho tiene la respuesta masiva del público; si detrás de esto hay una empresa sería, una empresa comprometida, que hace las cosas bien, la financiación de este tipo de proyectos al final llega de manera privada, lógicamente.

OpenBank ha hecho una cosa fantástica, que a mi me encanta, que es que un banco haya apostado por la cultura, y ha apostado por un espectáculo de circo familiar, y en vez de estar patrocinando una liga de fútbol, o la Formula 1, de repente ha apostado por nosotros en este caso, por la familia, y eso, quieras que no también nos ha dado un empujón importante a la hora de sentirte respaldado por OpenBank y también otros patrocinadores que están con nosotros. ¿Es la solución a todos nuestros males? No, pero nos ayuda, nos reconforta ¿Y nos sentimos más fuertes con ellos? pues tengo que decir que sí, y tengo que agradecérselo.

Empezaron con nosotros con Circo de Hielo, y lo mejor es que llega octubre y sus clientes empiezan a pedir entradas a OpenBank, ese es el mejor termómetro que tenemos. La gente esta agradecida a esa apuesta. Nosotros, como empresa, no podemos tener más que buenas palabras para OpenBank que ha sido muy valiente, porque ahora hay cola, para ver si OpenBank deja de patrocinar nuestros espectáculos, pero esa cola no existía hace 2 años, entonces yo creo que es de justicia de reconocer ese atrevimiento • ¿Cuál ha sido su mayor satisfacción/triunfo profesional?

Hay 2 cosas, una tiene que ver con el Circo de los Horrores, el acercar a los jóvenes el circo. Hubo una cosa que a mi me encantó, y es cuando mis amigos me empezaron a pedir entradas para el circo. Eso pasó solo con Circo de los Horrores, cuando eran 8 - welcome to madrid

traditional circus and the contemporary, and the Ministry of Culture has boldly opted for the contemporary circus. I think it’s a tremendous mistake of the INAEM. We can give our opinion, and we do in the circus councils, we can move the feeling of the sector... but there is also another reality, and the fact is that the circus has never depended on those aids, it has never been relied on to be programmed or not scheduled, because it has never been planned, the truth. And so in that sense we could say that we are privileged, and we are used to living without such aid. The situation is complicated, I will not tell you that it is easy, but I insist, if the circus is well done has the mass response of the public; If behind this there is a company would be, a committed company, that does the right thing, the financing of this type of projects in the end arrives privately, logically.

Openbank has done a fantastic thing, that I love, which is that a bank has financially bid to culture, and he has opted for a show of family circus. Instead of sponsoring a football league, or Formula 1, suddenly has bet on us in this case, for the family. That has also given us an important push because we feel that we are backed up by OpenBank and other sponsors that are with us.

Is it the solution to all our problems? No, but it helps us, it gives us security. Do we feel stronger with them? Well, I have to say yes, and I have to appreciate it.

They started with us with Ice Circus, and the best thing is that October arrives and their customers start asking for tickets to Openbank, that’s the best thermometer we have. People are grateful for this bet in culture. We, as an enterprise, cannot have more than good words to Openbank that has been brave, because now there is a line, to see if Openbank stops sponsoring our shows, but that line did not exist 2 years ago, then I think it is of justice to recognize its bravery.

• What has been your greatest profesional satisfaction or triumph?

There are 2 things, one has to do with the Circus of Horrors, bring the circus closer to the youth. There was one thing that I loved, and that’s when my friends started asking for tickets to the circus. That just happened with Circus of Horrors, when they were single, now with children its much easier, but that they tell you “I want to go to the Circus of Horrors”, people of 30, 28, 26 years,

even if it was a show for adults, it’s still a circus, that’s a milestone. Let’s say that its unimaginable that the carps of the Circus of Horrors were filled with young people. It’s something that was unimaginable13 -14yearsago, no one gave a penny for it, and there was our partner, Suso Silva, creator of the Circus of Horrors, who is a fantastic crazy lunatic who said “I’m going to do this”, and when it did not work, he did not give up, and at the end then we arrived, and together we managed to bring the Circus of Horrors where it is now. But someone had to dare to do that, and of course, someone has to have the vision that that can have a future, that we were. And that is one of my greatest satisfactions.

And then, this moment Of Christmas in Madrid, is for us very sweet, because when in her day the mayor of Madrid, Ana Botella said that the circus had been the second most important event behind the Cabalgata de Reyes en Navidad. We, that are natives of Madrid, were filled with pride and though “We have done it”, the circus returns to that place that it should have never lost.

As we said in the beginning of this interview, fame precedes to all new projects of “Productores de Sonrisas” or producers of smiles, and from the magazine Welcome to Madrid, we are sure that it is not going to be any less Circlássica. We recommend that you don’t miss our new family spectacle.

solteros, ahora con niños es mucho más fácil, pero que te digan “Quiero ir al Circo de los Horrores”, gente de 30, 28, de 26 años, aunque fuera un espectáculo para adultos, sigue siendo un circo, eso es un hito.

Digamos que las carpas del Circo de los Horrores, que se llenen de gente joven, es algo que era inimaginable hace 13 - 14 años, nadie daba un duro por ello, y ahí estuvo nuestro socio, Suso Silva, creador del Circo de los Horrores, que es un loco chalado fantástico que dijo “Yo voy a hacer esto”, y cuando no le funcionó, no tiró la toalla, y al final luego llegamos nosotros, y juntos hemos logrado llevar al Circo de los Horrores donde está ahora, pero alguien tenía que atreverse a hacer eso, y claro, alguien tiene que tener la visión de que eso puede tener futuro, que fuimos nosotros. Y esa es una de mis más grandes satisfacciones.

Y luego, este momento de Navidad en Madrid, es para nosotros muy dulce, porque cuando en su día la que era alcaldesa de Madrid, Ana Botella, dijo que el circo había sido el segundo evento más importante detrás de la Cabalgata de Reyes en Navidad, nosotros que somos de Madrid se nos hincho el pecho, pensamos “Lo hemos conseguido” que el circo vuelva a ese lugar que nunca debió perder.

Como os adelantábamos al principio de esta entrevista, la fama precede a todos los nuevos proyectos de Productores de Sonrisas, y desde la revista Welcome to Madrid, estamos seguros que no va a ser menos Circlássica y os recomendamos no perderos este nuevo espectáculo familiar.

Route through the Castles of Madrid

La Comunidad de Madrid guarda un buen número de fortificaciones visitables y bien conservadas que nos hablan de nuestro pasado medieval y de las familias nobles de aquella época.

A través de estas fortificaciones, castillos y atalayas realizaremos un viaje en el espacio y en el tiempo a la historia de la región madrileña, ya que se encuentran enclavados en parajes naturales de gran belleza y que por su antigüedad podríamos clasificar en tres etapas históricas, que incluyen: las primeras construcciones fortificadas que se remontan a la época Andalusí (siglos VIII al XI), las fortificaciones de repoblación castellana (siglos XII al XIV), y de la época

Through these fortifications, castles and watch towers, we take a trip through space and time to the history of the Madrid region, because they are located in natural places of great beauty that we can classify in three historical time periods from their antiquity. señorial las fortalezas en el tránsito hacia la Edad Moderna (siglos XV al XVI).

Proponemos comenzar el recorrido por: • Castillo de la Coracera en San Martín de Valdeiglésias (1434), que sigue el modelo de residencia señorial fortificada de la época.

• Castillo del Duque del Infantado en Manzanares el Real (1475), considerado una joya arquitectónica medieval del Reino de Castilla.

• Castillo de Gonzalo Chacón en Arroyomolinos (1478), típico ejemplo singular de fortificación del siglo XV, que tanto prolifero en aquellos días.

• Castillo de los Zapata, Condes de Barajas, en la Alameda de Osuna (1475), construido por el conde de Barajas como finca de recreo.

• Castillo de las Encomiendas Santiaguistas de Villarejo de Salvanés (siglos XIV al XVI), nacido para proteger el flanco oriental de Toledo, en las cercanías del rio Tajo.

• Y por último el recinto amurallado y Castillo de los Mendoza de Buitrago del Lozoya (Siglos XII al XIV), construido con técnicas de tradición andalusí para proteger la villa.

We suggest starting the route with: • The Coracera Castle in San Martin de Valdeiglesias (1434), that follows the model of fortified noble residence of the age.

• The Duque del Infantado Castle in Manzanares el Real (1434), considered a medieval architectural joy by the Kingdom of Castila.

• The Gonzalo Chacon Castle in Arroyomolinos (1478), a singular typical example of the 15th century fortification, that was frequently used in those days.

• The Zapata Castle, Condes de Barajas, in the Alameda de Osuna (1475), constructed by the count of Barajas as a recreation estate.

• The Encomiendas Santiaguistas of Villarejo de Salvanés Castle (14th to 16th century), made to protect the Eastern side of Toledo, close to the Tajo river.

• And lastly, the Mendoza of Buitrado de Lozoya walled enclosure and Castle (12th to 14th century), constructed with techniques of Andalusian tradition to protect the villa.

For example, in Puerta del Sol, you can visit some of the biggest and most popular stores such as Mango, H&M, Berksha, and many more. This is a very lively area that is always filled with people and is a great place to spend the day shopping. In La Latina, there is an open-air market that takes place every Sunday, called El Rastro.This is a very interesting and unique shopping experience, as there are many different merchants selling clothing, jewelry, bags and other unique things. In Malasaña, you can find cool thrift stores, with many things that you cannot find anywhere else.

GASTRONOMY Fine restaurants can be found all throughout Madrid, with places that accommodate everyone’s budget.

One of the most famous places to grab a bite is Plaza Mayor. Here, it is very typical to drink sangria, and try some of Madrid’s typical foods: the Spanish omelette, or a calamari sandwich.

After a day shopping in El Rastro, La Latina is a great place to relax and have a drink, a bit of tapas, or even to sit down for a nice lunch. There are many varieties of restaurants in this area, and there is truly something for everyone. welcome to madrid - 15

La magia de la Navidad en Torrejón de Ardoz

Christmas Magic in Torrejon de Ardoz

Este año el periodo navideño arranca el 23 de noviembre con un plan diferente, estamos hablando del tren ‘Mágicas Navidades’, que unirá la madrileña estación de Chamartín con Torrejón. Un singular viaje en un tren histórico, que nos invita a disfrutar de las atracciones que acoge la localidad madrileña de Torrejón de Ardoz, reconocida este año como Capital Europea de la Navidad. ¿Te apuntas?

Organizado por la Asociación de Amigos del Ferrocarril de Madrid y el Grupo IDEA, con la colaboración de la Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles, el Ayuntamiento de Torrejón de Ardoz, ADIF y la compañía ALSA, el 23 de noviembre se pondrá en marcha el tren ‘Mágicas Navidades’, que circulará hasta el 4 de enero.

Este tren histórico de los años 70 correspondiente a la serie 440, amenizará a los pasajeros durante los 25 minutos que dura cada trayecto con la presencia del Guachi revisor, una figura de los duendes verdes de Torrejón.

Una vez que llegues a tu destino, podrás disfrutar durante dos horas de las diferentes atracciones que propone esta localidad que cuenta con el mayor Paseo de la Navidad de España y con el sello de Fiesta de Interés Turístico Regional de la Comunidad de Madrid.

Así pues, los niños lo pasarán en grande en el tobogán de hielo, el carrusel de caballitos españoles, o la exposición de superhéroes. Los más atrevidos podrán descargar adrenalina en los karts sobre hielo.

El mercadillo de Navidad con 36 puestos, te dará ideas si estás empezando a buscar los regalos para las fechas más entrañables del año. Pero si quieres reponer fuerzas podrás hacerlo junto a la zona de Puerta Mágica llamada Bavarian Christmas, que ofrecerá gastronomía y repostería típica bávara al más puro estilo Múnich; en la Plaza del Picoteo; en el Rincón del Bocado, donde encontrarás deliciosos churros; o incluso en el Ice Bar.

El transporte público de Madrid es muy eficiente y funciona realmente bien, conectando perfectamente los principales puntos de interés de la ciudad, ya sea por autobús, metro, cercanías o taxi. Si no te gusta viajar bajo tierra (en el metro) o no te gusta caminar largas distancias, existen opciones para ti.

El metro de Madrid es el medio de transporte más eficaz para desplazarse por la ciudad. ¡Además, es muy rápido! Metro Madrid tiene 13 líneas de metro convencional que cuentan con 301 estaciones. En cuanto a longitud, la red alcanza una extensión de 294 kilómetros, siendo el séptimo más largo del mundo.

El metro funciona todos los días entre las 6:00 a las 2:00 horas, aunque el último tren comienza su trayecto a la 1:30AM. Para usarlo es necesario adquirir la tarjeta “Multi” la cual es recargable y tiene un precio de 2,50 € (no incluye carga).Para aquellas personas que viajen juntas, no es necesario adquirir más de una tarjeta, pueden utilizar la misma. Taxis in Madrid are the most convenient option to make some trips during the night or when you have too much luggage. Although the price of taxis in Madrid is lower than in other European cities, it is not a cheap way to travel around the city compared to the other options. Madrid Taxis are white, have a red band at the front door, and have a “taxi” sign on the top of the car. More than 15, 000 Taxis circulate around the city, so it’s easy to catch a Taxi both in the stops or while you’re walking around the city. The price per kilometer between 7:00AM and 9:00PM from Monday to Friday (changes if it is a holiday) is 1,05€ and the rest of the days and times is 1.20€. Keep in mind that the Taxi’s charge supplements, like the 3€ supplement if you get picked up in the bus stop or train stations and the supplement on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve between 9PM and 7AM is 6.70€.

El museo presenta una selección de trece obras de la Colección de Arte ABANCA en torno al surrealismo.

La muestra abarca un arco cronológico que se extiende desde 1923 hasta 1976 con obras de Dalí, Max Ernst, Miró, Maruja Mallo o Matta, entre otros. La instalación arranca con una pintura de Giorgio de Chirico, precursor del movimiento, y un óleo de Max Ernst inspirado en los paisajes metafísicos del artista italiano. Continúa en los años 1930, cuando Miró radicaliza su lenguaje pictórico y concentra los medios expresivos hasta llegar a su estilo maduro más característico, también presente en la muestra con un lienzo de 1976. Una litografía de Maruja Mallo sobre juegos infantiles populares, dos espectaculares paisajes oníricos de Dalí y dos obras del tinerfeño Óscar Domínguez completan la década. La exposición termina con una selección de piezas realizadas tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial en las que Matta, Wilfredo Lam y Eugenio Granell tratan de poner las bases de una mitología moderna.

The museum presents a selection of thirteen works related to Surrealism from the ABANCA Art Collection.

The show spans the period from 1923 to 1976 and features works by Dalí, Max Ernst, Miró, Maruja Mallo and Matta, among others. It begins with a picture by Giorgio de Chirico, a forerunner of the movement, and an oil painting by Max Ernst inspired by the Italian’s metaphysical landscapes. It continues in the 1930s, when Miró adopted a more radical pictorial language and fewer expressive devices until arriving at his more characteristic mature style, which is also represented in the exhibition by a canvas executed in 1976. Es una contradicción en sus términos, al igual que ‘hombre artista’ o ‘elefante artista’. Puedes ser una mujer y puedes ser una artista; pero lo primero te viene dado y lo otro lo eres tú”. Entre Estados Unidos y Francia, desarrolló una extensa producción, meticulosa y expresiva, de pinturas, dibujos, diseños de vestuario y decorados para ballets, esculturas “blandas”, novelas y poemas. Su obra cuenta historias inscritas en un universo personal, con el que da sentido a la vida moderna, y en un entorno surreal –lleno de fantasía y fantasmas– perfilado a través de un espacio que se presenta al mismo tiempo como seductor y pernicioso.

Dorothea Tanning (1910–2012) is widely regarded as one of the twentieth century’s most important and multifaceted women artists, an association, however, which she spurned: “Women artists. There is no such thing — or person. It’s just as much a contradiction in terms as ‘man artist’ or ‘elephant artist’. You may be a woman and you may be an artist; but the one is a given and the other is you”. Tanning developed her extensive, exhaustive and expressive body of work between the USA and France, producing paintings, drawings, costume and set designs for ballets, “soft” sculptures, novels and poems. Her work tells stories which are etched into a personal universe she used to give meaning to modern life and, in a surreal setting — brimming with fantasy and phantoms — shaped in a space which is at once seductive and pernicious.

La banda sonora del invierno viene marcada por el jazz en el Círculo de Bellas Artes. Bandas de gran nivel y repercusión internacional se darán cita en Jazz Círculo, un ciclo que cumple su undécima edición. Maureen Choi Quartet (14.12.18), que se ha revelado como una de las formaciones de jazz más originales del momento, el poderoso directo del saxofonista Julien Hucq (21.12.18) y Mareike Wiening (11.01.19), baterista alemana que presentará su nuevo álbum, Metropolis Paradise, son las próximas citas para disfrutar con el mejor jazz de la ciudad.

Por otra parte, la programación familiar tiene un especial protagonismo estos días en el CBA. El ciclo “Juego de niños” aúna divertidas propuestas para los más pequeños que, en esta ocasión, firma la compañía Viu el Teatre. En diciembre presentan Pintamúsica, una experiencia sensorial de música y artes plásticas para niños de entre 6 meses y 4 años. Y en enero, la comedia musical, Alicia en el país de los móviles; una adaptación del clásico de Lewis Carrol, que invita a reflexionar sobre los cambios comunicativos que generan las nuevas tecnologías en las familias.

Decisión tras decisión, vamos haciendo, nos vamos haciendo, casi sin pensarlo porque, elegimos lo que elegimos, la vida continúa.

Son dilemas asequibles. Sin embargo, por suerte o por desgracia, a veces nos enfrentamos a dilemas que darán la vuelta nuestra existencia para siempre.

Esto es lo que les pasa a un matrimonio de clase media con problemas económicos – Héctor (Antonio Molero) y Paula (Marina San José) – cuando Toni (Luis Merlo), uno de sus mejores amigos, les plantea el test de personalidad que ha elaborado Berta (Maru Valdivielso), su actual compañera, una psicóloga muy exitosa y mediática. Es la pieza teatral con la que Moliere, el gran comediógrafo francés, se dio a conocer al gran mundo. Lo hizo en París, en el Petite Bourbon, ante el Rey Luis XIV y utilizando como elemento cómico la estulticia de dos jóvenes damitas que presumen con absoluta vacuidad de cultas, elegantes y refinadas y que, gracias al ingenio del autor, terminan en el más absoluto de los ridículos.
